    Optimization of Financial Services Transaction Management Based on Blockchain Empowerment and Hierarchical Clustering

    This study aims to enhance the efficiency of service transaction management in the contemporary financial industry. The approach involves three main steps. First, a Hyperledger Fabric blockchain network is established, and smart contracts are deployed to ensure the tamper-proof nature and transparency of transaction data. Second, a hierarchical clustering algorithm (HCA) is applied to thoroughly analyze the transaction data, uncovering potential patterns and structures. Finally, a performance evaluation experiment of the model is conducted, wherein a variety of financial transaction data are collected, comprehensively processed, and analyzed. The research findings demonstrate that integrating blockchain technology with the hierarchical clustering method significantly boosts transaction management efficiency and data security. Specifically, this integrated approach improves transaction processing speed by more than 30% compared to traditional methods and shows marked efficiency improvements across various transaction volumes. Blockchain technology ensures data integrity, preventing tampering, while the detection rate of abnormal transactions increases to 99%, greatly enhancing system security. These results underscore the practical application value of the fusion method in financial service transaction management. This study not only promotes further development and innovation in financial service transaction management but also provides more efficient and secure solutions for the fintech sector

    Climatic Change Adaptation Strategies and Its Effectiveness in Relation to Buildings of Ayetoro Community, Ondo State, Nigeria

    Background: Climate change is a global phenomenon that has already begun to alter ecosystems and disrupt traditional patterns of weather and oceanic conditions. Adaptation strategies to climate change impacts that cannot be avoided particularly in the aspect of buildings, is absolutely an important aspect of global response. Study Purpose: The study examined the climatic change adaptation strategies adopted by the residents of Ayetoro community and its effectiveness. Methodology: The data was gathered using a pre-tested, self-administered questionnaire, sectioned into three different parts. The 27 instruments of the questionnaire had 0.878 Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient.  A total of 379 respondents were sampled based on Krejcie and Morgan [1] sample size calculation. The collected were presented by means of frequencies & percentage on tables and graph. Analysis to achieve objective was conducted using descriptive statistical tools (Mean, Median and Standard Deviation). Median represents cut-off point and serves as the baseline for decision. Results: The study found that all climate change adaptation strategy falls within the interval level of Strongly Agree level, except relocating permanently which falls within the neither agree nor disagree and Remain in the house, which falls within the Disagree interval level. Climate change adaptation strategies such as relocating temporarily, remaining in the house, erecting a barrier/fortifying the house, digging trenches around the house, placing valuable goods on higher level and raising ground floor level were found effective climate change adaptation strategies (Mean scores are equal or greater than median which is the cut-off point). Meanwhile, climate change adaptation strategies such as permanent relocation, construction of new drains and clearing of drainage were found not effective strategies (Mean score are less than median which is the cut-off point). Long-Term Sustainability: A more detailed exploration of the long-term sustainability of these adaptation strategies reveals that while many are effective in the short term, their viability must be assessed in the context of evolving climate conditions and socio-economic factors. For instance, strategies like erecting barriers and fortifying houses may provide immediate protection, but their effectiveness could diminish over time due to the increasing severity of climate events. Moreover, community engagement in the planning and implementation of these strategies is essential to ensure they are culturally acceptable and economically feasible. The sustainability of temporary relocation relies on the availability of resources and support for displaced individuals, while strategies involving modifications to existing structures must consider ongoing maintenance and adaptability to future climate scenarios. By identifying effective adaptation strategies, the research provides a framework that can be utilized to guide future interventions aimed at enhancing community resilience to climate change

    Life Skills Assessment: The Context of Grade 12 Students in a Philippine Catholic School

    Aims: This study assessed the life skills level of Grade 12 students in a Catholic school in Central Philippines during 2023–2024 in terms of self-awareness, empathy, effective communication, interpersonal relations, creative thinking, critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, coping with emotions, and coping with stress when they were taken as a whole and also grouped according to biological sex, academic strand, family structure, and family monthly income.  Likewise, demographics were correlated with their life skills level.  Study Design:  Quantitative research design, particularly the descriptive-correlational approach. Place and Duration of Study: Catholic school in Central Philippines during 2023–2024.  Methodology: The respondents were 210 Grade 12 students. In assessing the study, the 100-item standardized life skills assessment questionnaire by Subasree et al. [1] was employed. It was validated and yielded 89% concurrence using face and content validity.  The fitness of the items to the Filipino context was checked by Pahilanga et al. [11], yielding a reliable Cronbach’s alpha score of 0.92. This was responded to using the scale from very high to very low. In data analysis, descriptive and correlational analyses were utilized.  The descriptive analysis was employed to determine the students\u27 level of life skills using mean and standard deviation.  Meanwhile, the correlational analysis correlated the demographics and their life skills.  Results: Generally, their life skills level (M=3.29, SD=0.22) was rated average. Meanwhile, the areas that need improvement are coping with stress (M=2.44, SD=0.50) with a low-level rating and average levels for coping with emotions (M=2.88, SD=0.44), effective communication (M=3.21, SD=0.40), interpersonal relationships (M=3.11, SD=0.43), and decision making (M=3.38, SD=0.35).  In the demographics, their sex, strand, family structure, and family income were rated average. The Point biserial correlation shows no relationship between the students’ life skills and the following variables: biological sex [r(275)=-0.075, p=0.277], family structure [r(275)=0.041, p=0.550], and family income [r(275)=0.093, p=0.178]. Hence, the null hypotheses are accepted.  Meanwhile, the eta correlation showed no relationship between their life skills and their strands [η=0.080, p=0.723].  Hence, the null hypothesis is accepted. Conclusion: Given the findings of the study, continuous improvement of the student\u27s life skills acquisition is necessary. Deepening life skills development in the Catholic school\u27s curriculum and instruction is recommended. Incorporating it into curricular and non-curricular programs and activities may also help. Additionally, their exposure to various tasks and responsibilities that establish their sense of independence is also vital to help them develop these skills and apply what they have learned in real-life situations

    Assessment of Bacteria and Heavy Metal Contamination of River Imabolo, Ankpa, Kogi State, Nigeria

    This research was carried out to assess heavy metal and bacteria contamination of River Imabolo, Ankpa, Kogi State, Nigeria. Three replicate samples were collected from three sites (upstream, midstream and downstream) in June, 2023. Analysis of the concentration of some heavy metals [Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb) and Copper (Cu)], pH, nitrate and bacteria contamination were carried out. Data collected were analyzed using Minitab software and significant means were separated using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5 % level of probability. The results revealed that there was no difference in the Fe concentration in all sampling points in the studied river (Upstream = 5.89 mg/l, Midstream = 6.60 mg/l, and Downstream = 5.93 mg/l). While highest Pb (1.79 mg/l) and Cu (4.27 mg/l) were recorded from Upstream. Midstream had Pb and Cu levels of 2.49 and 3.67 mg/l respectively while Downstream had 1.99 and 3.64 mg/l of Pb and Cu respectively. Bacteria contamination mostly occurred in upstream and downstream. This may be due to highest anthropogenic activities occurring at the upstream and the subsequent flow of the contaminants downwards. Highest coliform count was recorded at the downstream between 3.6x10⁶ to 4.3x10⁵ cfu/ml. while highest mean total bacteria was recorded from midstream 2.3x10⁶ cfu/ml (MacConkey Agar) and 4.1x10⁶ cfu/ml (nutrient agar)

    Strength and Deformation Characteristics of Concrete Beams Reinforced with Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer Bars

    This research presents findings from experiments conducted on the strength and deformation characteristics of concrete beams reinforced with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bars and conventional steel bars as control. The mechanical properties of the GFRP bars and steel bars (10mm and 12mm nominal diameter) used were ascertained. A total of seven (7) reinforced concrete (RC) beams measuring 120mm x 200mm x 2000mm were cast, six (6) of which were GFRP reinforced and one (1) was steel reinforced, and were loaded incrementally until failure. Test variables of two concrete grades, C25 and C30, were adopted in conjunction with two tensile reinforcement ratios of 0.7% and 1.13% for the concrete beams. A uniform compression reinforcement ratio of 0.7% was implemented along with a transverse shear reinforcement ratio of 0.65% for all beams. The data gathered were analyzed using theoretical and experimental approach to provide an insight to deformation characteristics of the reinforced concrete beams cast. An estimation for the theoretical failure load from fracture of tension bars were based on a partial factor of safety (γm) of 1.52 for the tensile strength of GFRP. The study examined the deformational behavior including load-deflection response, crack propagation, flexural capacity and failure modes under a four-point monotonic loading test. The experimental results revealed that the GFRP reinforced concrete beams exhibited typical bilinear elastic behavior under static loading with a reduction in stiffness after cracking. The GFRP RC beams failed by sudden concrete crushing due to shear-bond failure, diagonal tension failure in the concrete, and flexural failure in contrast to the steel reinforced concrete beam which failed due to yielding of the steel tension bars. The investigation further highlighted that increasing the concrete compressive strength and the tensile reinforcement ratio of GFRP RC beams significantly improved their structural performance, reducing crack widths and increasing failure loads. GFRP RC beams recorded higher ultimate load capacities and deformations compared to steel-reinforced beams, despite their brittle failure modes. Further aligning with previous research, findings revealed that higher concrete strength leads to a greater number of cracks, but with reduced spacing and narrower widths

    Practice of Core Values of the Department of Education among Grade 12 Students in a Philippine Public School

    Aims: This paper determined the extent of practice of core values of the Department of Education (DepEd) among senior high school students in a Philippine public school in the areas of maka-Diyos (Godly), makatao (person-oriented), makakalikasan (environmental), and makabansa (nationalistic) relative to sex, religion, family structure, and strand. Study Design:  Quantitative particularly descriptive-comparative approach. Place and Duration of Study: Public School in Central Philippines during 2023-2024. Methodology: This paper was responded by 293 stratified randomly sampled Grade 12 students employing an adopted questionnaire. In data analysis, it employed mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney U Test, and Kruskal Wallis. Results: Generally, their extent of practice of the DepEd core values was very great. The areas of makabansa and makatao were rated very great while makakalikasan and maka-Diyos were rated great. In sex, male rated great while female, very great. In religion, both Catholic, and non-Catholic rated very great. In family structure, those from nuclear, single parent, and extended rated very great. In strand, STEM, HUMSS, and TVL were rated very great extent while ABM, Sports, and AD, were great. Meanwhile, in terms of the demographics, sex was found with a significant difference. Conclusion: To ensure the core value practice, maintaining the implementation of DepEd core values through school activities and programs in the locale and consistent values integration in the lesson plan. The implementation of DepEd core values should be designed and framed to meet the needs of all students, irrespective of gender. Consequently, the results suggest the importance of consistently implementing, monitoring, and empowering teachers through their leaders to develop students\u27 practice of core values, ensuring sustained quality education

    Accessibility and Inclusivity of Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell Immunotherapy in Treating Hematological Malignancies

    Targeting the molecule cluster of differentiation 19 (CD19), chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T-cell therapy is an artificial immune cell therapy now used in clinical practice for hematological malignancies. Studies on CAR-T-cell therapy have shown that it is highly effective, with high objective response rates (ORRs) and, in certain cases, promising progression-free survival (PFS). Notwithstanding, impediments can arise because of the emergence of resistance mechanisms, including the loss of CD19 antigen and immune suppression caused by the tumor microenvironment. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, allogeneic CAR-T cell treatment, and sequential CAR-T cell therapy are methods employed to overcome these barriers. Research on the use of CAR-T-cell therapy for T-cell malignancies and other disorders is still underway, despite the treatment\u27s impressive results in treating B-cell malignancies. The therapy\u27s high purchase cost and the lack of conclusive clinical proof make cost-effectiveness difficult to achieve. The scarcity of specialist facilities providing CAR-T therapy further impedes access, necessitating patients to surmount logistical and financial obstacles. To increase accessibility and affordability and to ascertain its long-term cost-effectiveness, more thorough investigations are required. CAR T-cell immunotherapy has a bright future ahead of it but to be used more widely and fairly, several important issues must be resolved. This review paper aims to assess critically the current accessibility and inclusivity of CAR T cell immunotherapy, identifying barriers and opportunities to enhance its application in the treatment of hematological malignancies
