Small-Scale Chicken Farmers’ Use of Social Media to Access Market Information in Arusha City, Tanzania
The aim of this study was to examine the small-scale chicken farmer’s use of social media platforms to access market information in Arusha city, Tanzania. Data were collected between June and August 2022 from 260 small-scale chicken farmers (SSCFs). Among these, 130 were Kuku Uchumi and 130 were non-Kuku Uchumi beneficiaries selected using stratified and simple random technique. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using questionnaire and key informant interview guide, respectively. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and binary logistic regression model were used to analyse quantitative data. On the other hand, qualitative data were transcribed from audio and translated from Kiswahili to English, and extracts were developed. The study found that chicken price, egg tray price, the number of chicken, and egg trays needed in the market and chicken market status were the main chicken market information accessed by SSCFs through social media. WhatsApp was reported as the primary social media used by SSCFs to access market information. The findings also, indicate statistically significant differences between Kuku Uchumi and non-Kuku Uchumi beneficiaries in using social media to access market information. The study concludes that using social media to access market information assists SSCFs in finding markets for their chicken and eggs, and recommends to other SSCFs to use social media. Resource Use and Economic Potential of Chickpea Cultivation in Haryana, India
The study was conducted in Bhiwani, Dadri and Mahendragarh districts of Haryana during the year 2021-22. Budgeting technique was employed to draw practical implications and production function was used for measure the extent of resource use in chickpea cultivation for taking policy decisions to encourage its cultivation in Haryana. The Negative growth rates of area and production of chickpea was observed in Haryana during last two decades (2000-01 to 2020-21). In same period owing large replacement of area towards mustard and wheat. The gross and net returns of Chickpea cultivation in Haryana worked out were Rs. 75842 ha-1 andRs. 21550 ha-1. The value of B:C ratio was 1.40 over total cost. The Marginal value productivity (MVP) Value of Chemical fertilizer, plant protection chemicals, machinery and irrigation was greater than unity for Bhiwani, Dadri, Mahendragarh and Haryana which indicates that these inputs were underutilized in the respective districts and Haryana. On the other side, the value of MVP were less than unity for Human Labour and seed in all districts indicating that these resources were over utilized, needs to be curtailed for higher returns. The major Constraints faced by Chickpea growers were unavailability of improved varieties in local market (85.83%), Price realization less than M.S.P./underpricing their produce (80.83%), Non-adoption of package of practice/ low input used (75.83%) and high incidence of insect-pest (64.17%)

Knowledge of Farmers on Integrated Soil Fertility Management in Selected Areas of Mymensingh Sadar Upazila, Mymensingh District, Bangladesh
A major global concern is the decline in soil fertility and the resulting reduction in crop yields in developing nations due to improper soil fertility management practices. Furthermore, to improve food security and environmental sustainability in farming systems, both the national and international communities acknowledge that an integrated approach to managing soil fertility is necessary. Considering the importance of soil fertility, the study aimed to assess farmers’ knowledge on farmers’ knowledge on integrated soil fertility management as well as identify the influential factors that may affect their knowledge along with figuring out the problems faced by the farmers in practicing integrated soil fertility management. Data were collected from three villages of Mymensingh sadar upazila (sub-district) under Mymensingh district purposively and analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression Models. Findings indicated that the majority (66.66%) of the non-FFS farmers were found to have a low level of knowledge on integrated soil fertility management whereas 60% of the FFS farmers had a higher level of integrated soil fertility and nutrient management knowledge. There are several factors that influence the knowledge of farmers on integrated soil fertility management. For the Non-FFS famers farm size, annual family income, and training; and for FFS farmers, exposure to extension media and training significantly influence the knowledge level of the farmers on integrated soil fertility management. Analysis shows that these factors explained 91% variation (for Non-FFS) and 89% variation (for FFS) in the farmers’ knowledge on integrated soil fertility management. There were notable differences between FFS and non-FFS farmers in terms of the problems they experienced while practicing integrated soil fertility management. In order to address the difficulties that non-FFS farmers face, a number of governmental and non-governmental organizations can actively work to raise farmers\u27 awareness of and knowledge about integrated soil fertility management by putting appropriate policies in place. Attitude of NRLM Beneficiaries towards Livelihood Diversification in Baghelkhand Region of Madhya Pradesh, India
In the rural areas, people diversify because of geographical isolation, low quality physical infrastructure, under developing markets, resources scarcity, incidence of some natural disaster and agricultural failure etc. Considering the above statement, find researchable issues were recognize as What are the attitude of NRLM beneficiaries towards livelihood diversification? Livelihood diversification is one of the dynamic solutions that are now occurring in rural regions and acting as a catalyst for economic growth and development. To cope with changing situation, mitigate losses from crop failure, economic and environmental risk rural households are adopting various on-farm and off-farm strategies as drought-tolerant crops and mixed farming, vegetable and fruit production, animal husbandry, eggs and poultry, trade, formally employee, mining, manufacturing, construction, transport, carpentry, petty trade etc. The study was done during 2022-23 in Rewa and Shahdol districts under Baghelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh due to highest number of beneficiaries registered in respective districts under NRLM at state level. In this study Ex-post facto research design, and 3 percent proportionate random sampling technique under multi-stage procedures were adopted. Thus 221 respondents were selected which were personally interviewed by using interview schedule, to analyze the attitude of NRLM beneficiaries towards livelihood diversification. The results of the study revealed that 50.22 percent respondent had medium level of attitude towards livelihood diversification
Assessing the Effectiveness of different Mobile Apps in Terms of Knowledge Gain and Adoption Level
The use of mobile phones has become an integral part of smallholder farmers’ lives in both developed and developing countries. The traditional transfer of technology mechanism had lot of constraints including limited staff, wider coverage and required more cost. The study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of different mobile apps in terms of knowledge gain and adoption level of technologies. Kisan Suvidha Mobile App was taken as technology option 1 (TO 1), Farmer Mobile App was taken as technology option 2 (TO 2) and the e-Nam mobile app was taken as technology option 3 (TO 3). The study was conducted in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu state. Radom sampling method was adopted to select the farmers. The yield data, knowledge and adoption level of the farmers were assessed before and after usage of mobile apps in getting agro advisory services in crop cultivation from land preparation to marketing. The farmers gained more knowledge by using Kisan Suvitha app. The farmers who were using Farmer mobile app and e-Nam mobile apps gained medium level of knowledge in crop cultivation method. Farmers could able to adopt 70 percent of the technologies by following Kisan Suvitha app whereas the farmers followed the Farmer mobile app and e-Nam app adopted the technologies for 64 and 60 percentage respectively. the farmers who followed the Kisan Suvidha app obtained a more yield of 61.1 q/ha. Whereas, the Farmer Mobile App users obtained 57.0 q/ha followed by e-Nam mobile apps users obtained a yield of 55.0 q/ha
Effects of Indigenous Farming Practices on Maize Production in Ondo State, Nigeria
A lot of indigenous knowledge had been lost through the deaths of elderly persons since there is no formal documentation of such knowledge. Old pests and diseases are beginning to resurface due to cropping patterns and adverse climate change impacts. It is in view of this that the study examine the effects of indigenous farming practices on maize production in Ondo State, Nigeria. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 120 maize farmers in the study area. Data was collected using validated questionnaire and were analyzed using means, frequencies, percentages, chi-square and Pearson product moment correlation. Findings from the study revealed that majority (80.8 percent) of the farmers were males, (86.7 percent) above 50 years of age, (87.5 percent) married, (87.5 percent) had formal education, (64.2 percent) were Christians, (25.8) followed by Muslim and (10 percent) traditionalist. A large percentage (75.8 percent) received information on indigenous control methods from their parents and grandparents. The result from the study revealed that there was a significant association between marital status (χ² = 10.06, p < 0.04), religion (χ² = 8.05, p < 0.02), membership of social group (χ² = 14.31, p < 0.00) and the perceived effects of indigenous farming practices of the respondents. Similarly, findings revealed that there was a significant association between income (r = 0.45, p 0.05), farm size (r = 0.13, p 0.05), farming experience (r = 0.11, p 0.05) of the respondents and the perceived effects of indigenous farming practices. There was no significant relationship between extension visitation (χ² = 0.04, p 0.62) and farmers use of indigenous knowledge. A Study on Knowledge Level of Farmers Regarding Paddy Straw Management in Punjab, India
Punjab is the state that contributes the most food grains to the central pool and is mostly an agricultural state. Small and marginal farmers are the backbone of Indian agriculture. Majority of the holdings are medium and number of such holdings are increasing with fragmentation of land. So, the present study was conducted with the objective of studying the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents. Data were collected from Pathankot and Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Two blocks was selected from each district and from total four blocks 25 respondents were selected randomly to make sample size of 100 respondents. It was found that vast proportion of respondents belonged to old age category. Youth is moving abroad and showing less interest in agriculture sector. Significant percentage of respondents (49 percent) were found to have attained schooling up to matric level and most of the respondents belong to nuclear family. It was found that though having good farming experience and education level, farmers of the state were not sticking to the recommended practices and resource use levels. The information of operational landholding of the respondents was classified into Small, Semi- medium, Medium and Large categories and mostly respondents have medium landholding i.e. 4-10 acre of land. The findings also revealed that respondents who attended more training and had more extension contacts have high knowledge level regarding paddy straw management
Performance of Agri-warehousing in India
Warehouses are scientifically designed storage structures that protect the quantity and quality of stored products with necessary preservation methods. This study was conducted to assess the growth and performance of warehouses, Negotiable Warehouse Receipt (NWR) and electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipt (e-NWR) in India. Percentage analysis indicated that there is 102.42 per cent growth in the number of Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) warehouses with the average storage capacity of 106.78 lakh MT and that of State Warehousing Corporation (SWC) warehouses has growth of 105.25 per cent with 439.12 lakh MT average storage capacity. In 2017-18, Warehouse Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) issued total 6447 NWRs for Rs. 313.66 crores value of deposited commodities and farmers got sanctioned the loan of Rs. 90.35 crores against NWRs. In 2019-20, WDRA issued total 134939 e-NWRs for Rs. 5303.44 crores value of deposited commodities and farmers got sanctioned the loan of Rs. 405.01 crores against e-NWRs which indicates that progress of e-NWR is faster than NWR. Study suggested that proper capacity building and awareness programs to farmers, higher tenure of loan and reducing warehouse rental cost will help the farmers to get the maximum benefit out of e-NWR
Economic Analysis of Temporal Changes in Land Use Pattern of Western Maharashtra
Land is a finite natural resource, the efficient management of which is vital for economic growth and development of the country. It is required for both agriculture and non-agricultural purposes. An analysis of structural changes in the land use pattern over a period of time provides the scope for planned and judicious management of land. In this connection, the present study on ‘An Economic analysis of temporal changes in land use pattern in Western Maharashtra’ was undertaken. For analysis the secondary sources and the necessary regional level time series data on area under land use categories were compiled from various issues of statistical abstract of Maharashtra and other publications of Government. The entire period of 1960-61 to 2019-20 was decomposed into three periods, viz; pre-liberalization, post-liberalization and overall period. A temporal change in land use pattern was estimated with the per cent change and compound growth rates. The temporal changes in land use dynamics of Western Maharashtra region revealed that, land put to non-agricultural uses, miscellaneous tree crops and groves, current fallow and fallows other than current fallow showed an increased trend while, area under forest, barren and uncultivable land, cultivable waste and net area sown registered a decline during Period-II. It is suggested that, during Period-II, the average proportion of forest land is 14.72 per cent, which is far less than the necessary percentage i.e., 33 per cent. Therefore, necessary steps may be taken by the state government in order to restore and maintain ecological balance. Land put to non-agricultural uses inclined throughout all the periods under study indicating an alarming situation. Majority of this conversion to land put to non-agricultural uses has taken place of agricultural land.
