    Mandibular Sialoadenectomy in Dog with Sialocele: Case Report

    The report aims to describe a case of left mandibular sialocele in a dog. A male, castrated, Shih Tzu dog, weighing 7 kilograms and five years old, was treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the School of Veterinary and Zootechnics at the Federal University of Goiás. A fluctuating non-painful subcutaneous swelling was observed in the left ventral cervical region during the clinical examination. Image tests revealed anechoic content with dilation of the salivary duct, heterogeneity and enlargement of the left mandibular gland and possibility of sialolithiasis. Besides, cytological analysis showed results that confirm the diagnose of left mandibular sialocele. Following the diagnosis, surgical treatment was made, performing sialoadenectomy. A skin incision was made ventral to the ear canal in the dorsal direction caudal to the angle of the mandible, and the patient was evaluated for days. Salivary sialocele is the most common sialoadenopathy in dogs and its diagnoses require several image methods and the surgical treatment is essential for healing and improving clinical signs

    Music offers significant benefits to the human body, especially in treating neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson\u27s disease. Pharmacological approaches often fall short, leading to increased interest in complementary therapies. Music therapy, in particular, has shown great potential in managing neurological disorders by influencing brain connections, thereby improving the quality of life for Parkinson\u27s patients. Given that Parkinson\u27s has no cure and drug therapies are costly and insufficient, non-pharmacological interventions are essential. This paper explores recent literature on the relationship between the brain and music therapy, focusing on its impact on Parkinson\u27s disease. It specifically examines how music-based practices can be used to repair functions that have been neurologically damaged by the disease while also fostering meaningful relationships with therapists or among patients. The aim is to enhance understanding of music education and its vital role in promoting human well-being

    A Review of Structural Seismic Vulnerability Research Based on Endurance Time Method

    This paper reviews the application of endurance time method in seismic design and evaluation of structures and its importance in seismic vulnerability analysis. The traditional methods such as static elastoplastic method and response spectrum method have low accuracy in the face of complex structures and structural nonlinear effects, while the incremental dynamic time history method has high accuracy but low efficiency. In contrast, endurance time method synthesizes multiple endurance time curves for nonlinear dynamic analysis of structures, which can more accurately simulate the real response of structures under earthquake action, and is especially suitable for seismic performance evaluation of complex structures. This method can significantly improve work efficiency while ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the results. At the same time, this paper also introduces the application of endurance time method in structural seismic vulnerability analysis and broad prospects. In summary, endurance time method, as an emerging structural dynamic analysis method, not only improves the accuracy and reliability of structural design, but also provides powerful technical tools and methodological support for seismic performance assessment and seismic vulnerability analysis of engineering structures

    Review of Cost Control Research in Prefabricated Construction under EPC Mode

    Aims: Amidst the accelerating global urbanization and growing demand for sustainable development, prefabricated construction emerges as a pivotal transformational force in the construction industry due to its efficiency and environmental friendliness. This paper comprehensively reviews cost control research in prefabricated construction under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) model. Study Design:  The study adopts a literature-based approach, incorporating findings from domestic and international scholars, to uncover the critical issues and challenges in cost control within the EPC framework. Additionally, it analyzes the application of technological innovations such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) and DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) in cost control, offering a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for prefabricated construction under EPC. Place and Duration of Study: The research spans various regions globally, examining recent practices and theoretical advancements in cost control for prefabricated construction projects under EPC over the past decade to ensure timeliness and comprehensiveness. Methodology: The methodology encompasses a systematic literature review to construct a theoretical framework, coupled with an analysis of case studies showcasing effective cost control measures. Furthermore, the study explores the utilization of BIM and DEMATEL to enhance cost prediction accuracy, process monitoring, and decision-making support. Results: The findings reveal that the EPC model facilitates more systematic and efficient cost control in prefabricated construction. The application of BIM significantly improves cost forecasting precision and process transparency, enabling timely cost deviation identification and correction. DEMATEL effectively identifies key cost drivers and their interrelationships, informing targeted cost control strategies. Conclusion: This paper underscores the significance of cost control in prefabricated construction under the EPC model and highlights the pivotal role of BIM and DEMATEL in enhancing cost control effectiveness. It concludes by advocating for deeper integration of prefabricated construction with the EPC model to propel the green, intelligent transformation and sustainable development of the construction industry

    Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Sericulture

    The Sericulture industry is one of the major cottage industries producing higher income with lower input. The industry requires critical inputs like quality seed, quality feed, skilled labour with optimum environmental conditions for smooth running and higher production. Most of these input processes involve only manual assesment of phenotypic traits and are human-centric. In the current environment, producing high-quality silk is crucial to reaching sustainability by 2030. The identification of the barriers preventing the increase of silkworm production is limited by the traditional technique. With the development of artificial intelligence, it is providing many benefits to sectors like sericulture where expert systems are being used to solve many problems like disease and pest, gender classification, changing environmental conditions in both host plant as well as silkworm. For the sericulture industry to thrive amidst a changing world, it must keep pace with evolving challenges. This necessitates emphasizing the integration of intelligent tools. There are various advanced tools like Artificial Intelligence, advanced mechanisations etc. and their use is limited to some extent. As the use of AI is gaining momentum, the sericulture industry is also bound to use them to some extent even though they are not very much popular.     Evaluation of Antioxidant, Antibacterial, and Anti-hemolytic Properties of Ethanol Extract from Plectranthus barbatus Andrews (Lamiaceae) Leaves

    Polyphenols can act as antioxidants, antibacterial, antifungal, or insecticidal agents. Given that microbial infections and arboviruses transmitted by Aedes aegypti significantly contribute to global morbidity and mortality, there is an urgent need to discover new antimicrobials and insecticides. This study investigated the ethanol extract (PbLE) of Plectranthus barbatus Andrews (Lamiaceae) leaves for its chemical constituents, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-hemolytic, and larvicidal activities. Qualitative analysis by Thin Layer Chromatography revealed cinnamic derivatives, flavonoids, terpenes, and steroids in PbLE. Quantitative analysis showed that PbLE contained 98.64 ± 0.87 mg EAG/g of total phenols, with flavonoids comprising 21.84 ± 0.34 mg EQ/g (c.a. 22%). PbLE demonstrated scavenging activity against ABTS+ (IC50 = 3246.00 ± 0.97 µg/mL) and DPPH (IC50 = 1371.75 ± 0.94 µg/mL) free radicals and exhibited reducing ability in the phosphomolybdenum method (IC50 = 899.33 ± 0.73 µg/mL). Although PbLE did not affect the growth or survival of pathogenic microorganisms, it significantly reduced (c.a. 80% for the extract at 256 mg/mL) the hemolysis caused by Staphylococcus aureus in human erythrocytes. Furthermore, PbLE (7 mg/mL) caused 40% mortality of A. aegypti third-instar larvae after 48-h exposure. In conclusion, PbLE, rich in phenolic compounds, acts as an antioxidant that mitigates S. aureus virulence to human erythrocytes and reduces the viability of A. aegypti larvae. The data reported herein contribute to the science by exploring P. barbatus, a medicinal plant with a long history of traditional use, as source of bioactive compounds with pharmacological and insecticidal properties.     Review of Earthquake Resistance and Mitigation of Underground Structures

    The rapid development of underground structural engineering in China has been accompanied by pressing issues in the research of earthquake resistance and mitigation. Typically, underground structures exhibit good seismic performance with relatively few disasters. However, once they are damaged by earthquakes, the consequences can be severe and difficult to repair. This paper first elaborates on the prototype observation, theoretical analysis, model testing, and numerical simulation involved in seismic response analysis of underground structures. It comprehensively analyzes the advantages, disadvantages, and applicability of different research methods. Finally, it summarizes the research achievements on technical measures to mitigate earthquake damage to underground structures in strong earthquake regions, both domestically and internationally

    Assessing Teacher’s Readiness for Online Learning – Insights from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University

    Online Education is the future and the readiness of teachers to handle the challenges of online education has to be understood. Under this the paper has a two-fold purpose. The first purpose of the research is to clarify the concept of “readiness of teachers of higher education institutions to use online learning Technologies”, to determine the components and indicators of teachers’ readiness to use online learning technologies. The second purpose is the reporting of the study results based on the first purpose. The article is based on literature review on Teachers’ readiness/preparedness to online education and results of the authors’ COVID-19 Teachers’ Questionnaire with 49 faculty members of major higher education institutions of  Tamil Nadu Agricultural University .It  proves that the effectiveness of online learning depends on subjective (teachers’ and students’ preparedness for online education) and objective factors (material and technical base of higher education institutions). Components of teacher’s readiness for online learning and their indicators are summarized: motivational, cognitive, operational, technological, creative, personal. The outcomes of the questionnaire have identified that most respondents lack theoretical knowledge and practical skills Necessary for the implementation of online learning and encounter difficulties in teaching during quarantine

    Patients’ Perception of Healthcare Givers Services

    Aim: This study aimed to describe the communication between Ghanaian patients and nurses, midwives, and doctors regarding the core elements of the “Four Habits Model” (4HM). The specific objectives were (1) to describe the communication between Ghanaian patients and nurses, midwives, and doctors regarding the core elements of the “Four Habits Model” (4HM) measured by Four Habits Patients Questionnaire (4HPQ); and (2) to find an effective method to implement descriptions of the communication between patients’ and nurses, midwives, and doctors regarding the core elements of the 4HM. Methods: This exploratory study had a cross-sectional, multicenter design. Four Hospitals participated in this study. A convenience sample of patients (N = 400) from four hospitals (Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale West Hospital, Yendi Hospital, and Salaga Hospital) were included. The researcher trained four research assistants who assisted with administering the questionnaires. All patients had one or several consultations with a nurse, midwife, and/or doctor during their hospital stay. A self-report inventory was administered to patients at discharge from the hospitals using Four Habits Patients Questionnaire (4HPQ) and eight questions on information regarding treatment (8QIRT). Data was collected from January and March 2016.  Results: Five eigenvalues greater than 1.0. They were 8.31 (component 1), 3.70 (component 2), 1.77 (component 3), 1.23 (component 4), and 1.16 component 5. Therefore, the components were labelled. The means and standard deviations showed that the additional 8QIRT were the least ranked. On the 4HM, Habit IV (invest in the end) was ranked least. The key findings were that the “Four Habits Model was applicable to doctors with some modifications., the advantages and disadvantages of treatment not explained to patients is very important, and that nurses, midwives, and doctors do not provide information on patients’ treatment. Conclusions: Based on this study, patients will want issues of patients not allowed to express themselves to be addressed by their healthcare providers

    Right Multiple Ventro-lateral Traumatic Abdominal Hernia in a 1½ -Year-Old Balami Ram: A Case Report

    Hernia is a word derived from Latin refering to “bud” or “offshoot.” Acquired hernia can be due to trauma, excessive abdominal distension, frequent over feeding, pregnancy or trauma. The condition is reported to be common in dogs and pigs but less so in other domestic animals. A Balami ram, was presented with a chief complaint of a large bulge on the right side of the abdomen. The client revealed that, the condition was first noticed about 5 months prior to presentation as a small swelling. The ram was said to had been involved in a fight with its pen mate a bull. The patient was aseptically prepared for surgery, drapped and longitudinal skin incision made on each identified bulge, the hernia contents were evaluated and returned into their normal anatomical positions. The peritoneal sheet was then closed and the hernia ring edges refreshed and subsequently apposed using chromic catgut size 2 suture material. An uneventful recovery was achieved. We recommend that, rams should not be housed together with bulls
