Bovine Renal Lipofuscinosis in a Tanzanian Crossbred Yearling Male Calf: A Case Report
Aim: To report a rare case of bovine renal lipofuscinosis (BRL) that was encountered incidentally at necropsy.
Presentation of the Case: In June 2023 an yearling male calf was found dead in one of the dairy cattle farms in Mbeya city, Tanzania; after being sick for about a week. The owner requested a necropsy service to establish the cause of the death of the animal. Necropsy revealed significant gross pathological changes in a liver that was cooked-like and shrunken, with flabby consistence and large pale necrotic foci. Furthermore, dark blue discoloration of both kidneys with normal morphology was evident. Based on the history and gross pathological findings, the animal was diagnosed to have died from acute hepatitis. Differential diagnosis for kidney discoloration included hemachromatosis, renal hemosiderosis, BRL, and melanotic renal cell carcinoma (MRCC). After ruling out hemachromatosis, renal hemosiderosis and MRCC in the list of possible causes of kidney discoloration based on the lack of gross pathological findings, particularly hepatic fibrosis, pallor, and a mass of tumor tissue in the kidneys that are characteristic of hemachromatosis, renal hemosiderosis and MRCC, respectively; the cause of kidney discoloration was diagnosed as BRL.
Discussion: In this necropsy, the history and gross pathology suggested that the animal’s death could be attributed to acute liver failure, which is one of the sequelae of acute hepatitis. Kidney discoloration was not considered an attribute factor to the animal’s death because, with the exception of discoloration, the kidneys did not have gross pathological changes. Moreover, to date there has been no report of a clinical disease in cattle associated with BRL. However, BRL is an important disorder because it leads to condemnation of the affected kidneys as unfit for human consumption.
Conclusion: The case of BRL reported here was an incidental finding at necropsy, and is not associated with the death of the animal
Effect of Rice Husk Ash on the Tensile Strength of Epoxy Based Bio-composite
Rice husk is a major agricultural waste which has very little practical application for the farmers. It has been used as a fibre with various resins to produce composites. If burnt it produces ashwhich contains 90% Silica which has high abrasive strength and can contribute to mechanical strength of composites. In the present work RHA was obtained by incinerating RH at about 6000C for 6 hours. The ash obtained with this procedure is shiny white in colour and rich in silica. The ash obtained by this process was mixed in various weight proportions with epoxy and powdered rice husk to obtain bio composites. Mechanical tests were conducted to assess the strength of the composite. It was observed that incorporation of RHA as a fibre improved various mechanical properties upto a certain weight proportion where after it started decreasing. SEM tests were conducted to understand the failure mechanism. It can be concluded that RHA can be a suitable fibre for bio composites up to a limited range. In future however better casting techniques can be developed to utilize the abrasive strength of this abundant resource
Optimizing Goldfish (Carassius auratus) Breeding and Larval Nurturing for Materialistic Aquaculture Utilizing Synthetic Hormones
Gold fish (Carassius auratus) are familiar in India as an ornamental freshwater fish with economic importance. This experiment aimed to explore the possibility for mass-scale breeding and larval rearing of goldfish under biofloc setup. Natural brooders were collected, acclimatized and induced to breed utilizing synthetic hormones at various dosages. Breeding execution parameters namely spawning success, fertilization rate and hatching performance were analysed. The highest fertilization and hatching rate were gradually noticed at 80.8% and 80.9% by using a dose of 0.4ml/kg body weight for females and 0.2ml/kg for males. Larval rearing was accomplish by applying several live and formulated feeds across various life stages in normal rearing tanks and biofloc tanks also. The growth performance of larvae in biofloc tanks express a satisfactory rate, with a maximum weight gain of 7.1 g and length gain of 5 cm over 120 days compared to 5.1 g and 3.5 cm in normal tanks. Water quality parameters were kept within the optimum range all over the experiment. The functionable study exhibits the viability of captive breeding and mass scale larval nurturing of goldfish employing induced breeding techniques and biofloc technology
Innovative Implications of Paddy Straw in Concrete: A Review
Rice is a crop that is grown worldwide and is mostly produced in Asian countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and others. For every ton of harvested rice, around 1.5 tons of paddy straw is produced. Paddy straw is available in substantial amounts during the rice harvesting seasons, depending on the region. In place of burning, governments and communities can promote composting, use paddy straw as animal feed, or invest in technology that turn waste straw into goods that are valuable. Buildings with improved energy efficiency, reduced agricultural waste, and alternative building materials can all benefit from the use of paddy straw in construction. However, proper processing and treatment are required to assure structural integrity, fire resistance, and longevity in construction applications. A thorough analysis was carried out to see how paddy straw might be used to address different environmental issues. It addresses a number of issues, including market potential, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and technological viability. In this type of research, the durability, workability, and compressive strength of the concrete mix are typically evaluated by replacing a portion of the cement with ash derived from paddy straws. Tomato Performance in a Protected Structure: A Review
In the event of climate change, sheltered agriculture might offer plenty of opportunity for high-value vegetable crop production to occur during the "off" season. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the most significant high-value crops and a rich source of lycopene, β-carotene, phenols, flavonoids, and several vitamins. Growers can produce tomato fruit during the off-season and get higher prices in the market by using protected buildings like net houses, polyhouses, semi-high tunnels, and mulching. Through the modification of the natural environment, this technology has significantly improved productivity for areas with unfavourable weather conditions. In addition, it has extended the harvest period, increased yields, improved quality, increased production stability, and made fresh, high-quality produce available during the off-season, especially in Himalayan areas. From this study, it is pertinent to opine that tomato is high value vegetable crop in which protected cultivation is always advantage over open field cultivation. We highlight or briefly discussed the differences between growing tomatoes in an open field and under protection structure, as well as the growth characteristics, yield, and other quality parameters in this review
Geo-sustainability Challenges and Remediation Strategies: A GIS-based Assessment of Sripur Coalmine Areas, West Bengal, India
This study examines the health, risk, and safety aspects of coal mining in the Sripur area, focusing on the Bhanora West Block, Asansol, West Bengal, India as one of the 14 operational mines of Eastern Coalfields Limited in Asansol. The study addresses the increasing risks of accidents, fires, and subsidence in active, ageing, and closed mines and storage yards. The study’s incorporation of field surveys, satellite imagery, and environmental data ensures that the findings are based on a well-rounded and multi-faceted dataset.
The satellite imagery data (GIS and Remote Sensing) are perceived along with available literature and environmental impact compliance reports from time to time, with particular interest in the Bhanora West coal mine, both open cast and underground. The aspect, Hill shade, LULC and stream order maps of the Damodar are generated using Q-GIS, 3.28.7.
The environmental clearance data, accident data, subsidence area, and landslide data are analysed. A vast area in Sripur is observed to be under subsidence, with cracks appearing even near residential areas. The flow of the Nunia nallah is nearby, and old closed mines are not adequately backfilled, so the chance of seepage cannot be neglected though regularly attended.
Pneumoconiosis (CWP), a lung disease (black lung), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and silicosis are common in Sripur due to dust and substandard water. Effective and riskless mining extractions using proper technologies can avoid mining hazards, such as subsidence, the influx of water in underground mines, health hazards, air/water pollution, mine fire, and intact physical landscape and observing criteria of sustainable Development Goal SDG-1 SDG-3, SDG-6, SDG 12, SDG-13, and SDG 16
Assessing the Positioning of Rainwater Harvesting Systems in Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Campuses Using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods
Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) Methods provide an instrumental tool for the investigation of current decision-making procedures. Such a decision-making problem is the process of determining the most suitable position for rainwater harvesting systems. In this short communication, TOPSIS method is suggested as a sample Multi-Criteria Decision-Making method and the main campus of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University is used as an application of the method for this problem. TOPSIS method results show that the Student Life Center Roof is found as the most suitable location with a similarity coefficient of S_1^*=0.6789 also results show that Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods can provide a fast and practical technique for determining the position for rainwater harvesting systems in university campuses

Citation analysis helps to understand the different ways that users look for material. Citation analysis can be used to calculate the obsolescence rate. Finding the rate of obsolescence of publications in the field of renewable energy sources is the aim of this study. Citation analysis is being done on M.Tech. (Agril.Engg.) PG theses that were submitted to the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology\u27s department of Renewable Energy Sources. The study uses theses that were submitted between 2017 and 2021. There are 14 theses in total, with 707 citations. Analysis is also conducted to determine the Authorship pattern and Types of Information Sources that the researchers mentioned in their theses
Insights into Information Perception in Poultry Farming Systems
Indian poultry industry has found to be more structured and evolved as a dynamic organization in last two decades. Planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and controlling can profoundly be seen. Indian poultry industry contributes significantly to total livestock sectors contribution to India\u27s GDP. India\u27s poultry meat production is 3.4 million tons and its eggs production is sixty-five million tons and industry ranks second and third in worlds ranking in meat and eggs production respectively (FAO). The data was collected from stakeholders with the help of pretested interview schedule. The separate interview schedule was prepared for broiler farmers (100 samples), breeder farmers (10 samples) and processing cum distribution centers (20 samples). The study revealed that the majority of the poultry farmers, 63 per cent were aged between 35 to 54 years. Young generation farmers, aged between 20 to 34 years, 37 per cent, seemed lesser interested in poultry farming. In addition, women farmers were on only 3 per cent out of total sample farmers surveyed. It is indicative of the need for the promotion of poultry farming as a source of women empowerment. Almost 81 per cent farmers stated that poultry farming is their main occupation and major source of income where they have fulltime business commitment. Among the sample farmers, majority of, 52 per cent, were new entrant. The majority of farmers, 54 per cent, were rearing 5000 to 9999 birds at their farm and they were classified under medium-sized poultry farms. The average area of small farms was 2785.71 sq. ft., medium farm was 5886.89 sq. ft. and large farms was 18403 sq. ft. All the sample farmers had permanent housing (100 per cent) with pucca flooring (90 per cent). Almost 81 per cent farmers had their poultry shades in agriculture farms
