    Proper management of biomedical waste reflects the ethical responsibility of healthcare providers and institutions to protect public health, the environment, and the well-being of their communities. Overall, the effective management of biomedical waste is crucial for safeguarding public health, protecting the environment, ensuring occupational safety, complying with regulations, and fulfilling social responsibilities. Healthcare workers who handle biomedical waste are at risk of needle stick injuries, exposure to infectious agents, and other hazards. Addressing the challenges requires a multi-faceted approach involving government initiatives, regulatory enforcement, public awareness campaigns, investment in infrastructure and technology, training programs for healthcare workers, and collaboration with stakeholders across sectors. By addressing these issues, India can improve its capacity for biomedical waste management

    Exploring the Importance of Collaborative Approaches to Community-based Counselling Interventions in Local Communities

    Collaborative counselling and community-based interventions are recognised as important strategies for addressing various challenges faced by local communities. Aim: This study explores attitudes and perceptions towards collaborative counselling and community-based counselling interventions. Methods: Using a qualitative design and semi-structured interview guide, data were collected through interviews with five interviewees (including two Native Doctors). Data Analysis: The Braun and Clarke\u27s Reflexive Thematic Analysis was employed to analyse the data. Findings: Collaborative approaches, involving community members and organisations in intervention development and implementation, were perceived as effective and sustainable. Cultural sensitivity and ongoing professional development were highlighted as crucial for the successful implementation of community-based counselling interventions. Recommendations: Guidance and counselling practitioners should recognise the value of community-based interventions, develop collaborative skills, incorporate cultural sensitivity, advocate for these interventions, and engage in continuous professional development. Contribution to Knowledge: This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the effectiveness and sustainability of community interventions in guidance services, underscoring the importance of collaborative approaches

    Measure Constraints Faced by Farm Women Using ICT Tools by Garett Ranking Method

    Traditionally the extension services have focused on male farmers. In the last few decades the concern regarding farm women have been raised globally. There is immediate need to equip these farm women with relevant knowledge and skill. It is only possible if appropriate and relevant Information communication technology (ICT) tools are made available to farm women to get information related to agriculture. The present study was conducted in the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand state to identify the constraints faced by farm women while using ICT tools. Garrett ranking was used. For this study, respondents were selected by using a Probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling method. To derive the inferences of the study, two blocks were selected for the present study. The study covered four villages & it covered 120 farm women in the selected villages. Data for the study was collected during 2019-20. Primary data was collected from farm women through personal interview method with the help of a pretested schedule. The main personal constraints noticed were lack of preference in using Information communication technology (ICT), lack of training, lack of confidence, lack of motivation and lack of time to utilize Information communication technology (ICT). The main technological constraints were language problem to use Information communication technology (ICT), complex nature of Information communication technology (ICT) restricted availability and restricted accessibility to Information communication technology (ICT) tools. The main cultural constraints were lack of faith in Information communication technology (ICT) tools, traditional belief in the existing system, discouragement from the family and society. The main infrastructural barriers were poor electricity services and poor network connectivity

    Molecular Diagnosis of Mycoplasma haemofelis and ‘Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum’ in Domestic Feline: A Case Report

    The aim of this work was to report the molecular diagnosis of Mycoplasma haemofelis and \u27Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum\u27 in a domestic feline. Mycoplasma spp. are pleomorphic bacteria that parasitize the surface of red blood cells in several domestic species, mainly cats, being responsible for feline mycoplasmosis, which can cause hemolytic anemia. Cats can become infected through blood transfusions, social interactions via fights and flea bites. In this report, the patient exhibited in the clinical exam, pale and icteric mucous membranes, and enlargement of the popliteal and submandibular lymph nodes. Based on the symptoms presented, a blood sample was collected to search for hemoparasites using blood smears and also molecular examination by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The blood smear revealed inclusions characteristic of Mycoplasma spp. Observed in red blood cells, and the diagnosis of mycoplasmosis was confirmed by PCR. This report highlights the importance of screening for hemoparasites in the feline clinical routine, with molecular tests being the most recommended due to their high sensitivity and specificity

    An Analysis of Tamil Nadu Income-Based Consumption Patterns and Consumer Behaviour for Jaggery and Khandsari Sugar: A Review

    Purpose and Objectives: Markets such as Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode district Cooperative Jaggery Marketing Federation (CTEDCJMF), Selur Farmers Sugarcane Products Market (Farmers jaggery market), Pilikalpalayam and Chitthode jaggery market exclusively for jaggery and khandsari sugar, coconut and palm sugar. Methodology: Snowball sampling method was used for the data collection and also producers, visiting the market also enrolled in the study. Totally 30 producers of each sugar, 60 middlemens and 120 consumers who purchased sugar through the identified marketing channels were interviewed for the study. The data collected were analyzed to determine the cost and returns for three types of sugar. The price spread at various marketing levels, trader concentration ratios, and consumer buying behavior towards alternate forms of sugar were also examined. Principal component analysis was used to identify factors influencing consumer purchases of alternate forms of sugar. Key Findings: The results of the sample respondents showed that sample respondents of jaggery and khandsari sugar producers, majority of the sample respondents were aged between 31-40 years (33.33%) followed by 26.67 percent in the category of 20-30 years, about 23.33 per cent of the sample respondents in the producer category were aged above 50 years, followed by 16.67 per cent aged between 41-50 years.  Implications: Hence, the demand for coconut sugar is very low, so promotional efforts should be made to popularize its health benefits among consumers.  In the case of jaggery and khandsari sugar, product modification into cube form (similar to white sugar cubes) will increase market preference and acceptability

    Efficacy of Various Ready-mix Insecticides against Spodoptera litura (Fab.) in Groundnut

    A field experiment was carried out to study the efficacy of various ready-mix insecticides against Spodoptera litura (Fab.) in groundnut at Main Oilseeds Research Station, JAU, Junagadh during Kharif, 2023. Out of the seven ready-mix insecticidal treatments evaluated, chlorantraniliprole 10 + lambda-cyhalothrin 5 ZC 0.006% was found most effective against S. litura after two sprays. It recorded the lowest larval population (0.60 larvae/plant), highest pod and haulm yields (1584 and 3286 kg/ha, respectively), highest yield increase over the untreated control (69.95% for pods and 64.66% for haulms) and the highest net realization (₹ 48178/ha). The treatments of novaluron 5.25 + emamectin benzoate 0.9 SC 0.009% and chlorpyriphos 50 + cypermethrin 5 EC 0.11% were proved next best treatments over untreated control. Among the various ready-mix insecticidal treatments, chlorpyriphos 50 + cypermethrin 5 EC 0.11% exhibited the highest ICBR of 1:14.3, followed by chlorantraniliprole 10 + lambda-cyhalothrin 5 ZC 0.006% (1:11.4). However, the treatments viz., profenofos 40 + cypermethrin 4 EC 0.088% (1:4.4), novaluron 5.25 + indoxacarb 4.5 SC 0.016% (1:4.3) and emamectin benzoate 5 + lufenuron 40 WG 0.009% (1:2.8) exhibited lower ICBR

    Study on Weight Gain Efforts through Indigenous Technical Knowledge

    Introduction: In India, under-five child malnutrition is a serious public health issue. This is demonstrated by the fact that India has one of the highest rates of underweight children worldwide. Aims: The study was carried out to assess the spatial distribution of nutritional status of children of 1-5 years through weight-for-age, height-for-age, weight-for-height data collected by the KVK. Preschoolers\u27 dietary health was regressed on several sociodemographic factors after eliminating the effect of age. The information reveals that children\u27s nutritional condition varies geographically and by gender in India. Methodology: A study was conducted in district Seoni of Madhya Pradesh to eliminate malnutrition via using indigenous technical knowledge (ITK). The trials were conducted in three following years viz 2020 to 2023. Primarily the training was conducted of mothers along with Anganwadi workers regarding the addition of sweet rice to kids from 1-5 years age group.  Results: There was twice-daily portions of sweet rice, was prepared by using Jaggery by adding water, desi ghee, and roasted rice dry fruits added to it and then it cooked for 15-30 min and given for 45 days.  The average body weight gain after evaluation and personal conversations of mothers was recorded as 9.91 kg and the proportion change against farmers practice was 13.48. Conclusion: The study concluded that rice prevalent areas and rice-based food habits for mothers and children should be adopted the sweet rice (ITK) the recommended practice against farmers’ practice

    Sediment Simulation Using Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP), Co-Active Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (CANFIS) and Multiple Linear Regression Tecniques (MLR) for Hurdag Watershed

    Sediment modeling plays a crucial role in sustainable water resources planning, development, and management. Techniques like the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Co-active Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (CANFIS), and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) have proven effective for sediment modeling and forecasting. This study aimed to develop and assess the applicability of MLP, CANFIS, and MLR models by training and testing them during the monsoon season (June to September) for the Hurdag watershed in the Damodar-Barakar basin, located in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, India. Daily rainfall, runoff (or streamflow), and sediment concentration data from 1997 to 2006 were used, with the data split into two sets: training set (1997–2004) and a testing set (2005–2006). The analysis was conducted using NeuroSolution 5.0 software and Microsoft Excel for performance evaluation indices. The best input combinations for sediment yield simulation were identified, and 10 optimal models were selected from 31 different input combinations. These input combinations were applied to the network for training using the back propagation algorithm for MLP and Gaussian and generalized bell membership functions for CANFIS models. Multiple networks were trained individually, with the most accurate predictions during testing being chosen as the best models. The models’ performance was evaluated using statistical indices such as root mean squared error (RMSE), coefficient of efficiency (CE), and correlation coefficient (r). The results showed that MLP and CANFIS models performed best in predicting sediment concentration for the Hurdag watershed, whereas MLR models showed poor performance for the given dataset. Specifically, sediment concentration for the current day could be modeled using current day rainfall and runoff data (MLP-7), while runoff could be simulated using the previous day\u27s rainfall data (MLP-2)

    Assessment of Denture’s Continuous Wearing as a Factor Predisposing to Chronic Atrophic Candidiasis in a Sample of Lebanese Denture Wearers: A Clinico-microbiological Study

    Background: Chronic atrophic candidiasis (CAC), commonly referred to as denture stomatitis, is the most prevalent multifactorial, chronic inflammatory oral condition amongst denture wearers. Denture’s continuous wearing is considered a risk factor predisposing to CAC. The aim of this study was to evaluate this factor and its relationship with the occurrence of CAC in a Lebanese population. Material and Methods: Two hundred ninety (161 women, 129 men; age range 40-80 years) were selected for this study. Swab samples from the palate and the palatal surfaces of the upper dentures of these patients were collected and examined mycologically. Denture’s continuous wearing and colonization by Candida albicans were evaluated. Results: In this sample of 290 patients, 85 (29.31%) wear their dentures continuously and 170 (58.62%) exhibited clinically and microbiologically CAC. With respect to the patient’s age, 41 out of the 65 patients (63.07%) aged between 40 and 60 years showed CAC against 129 (57.33%) who are older than 60. Conclusion: This study supports previous findings that denture continuous use of denture is a significant factor that contributes to CAC

    Exploring Potential of Organo-mineral Fertilizers in Augmenting Crop Yield and Quality – A Review

    Inorganic fertilizers are essential for improving crop yield and quality through enhanced crop efficiency.  However, their continuous use often causes nutrient imbalances, leading to poor yield and quality. Organic manures, while effective in improving soil fertility and crop productivity, face challenges such as limited availability, variable quality, transportation issues, heavy metal contamination and slow nutrient release. The exclusive dependence of either organic or inorganic fertilizers has not adequately fulfilled the increasing demands for enhanced agricultural output and quality. To address these challenges, organo-mineral fertilizers (OMFs) have emerged as an innovative solution. OMFs are derived from the combination of mineral and organic nutrient sources, integrating the benefits of both. This low input technology supplies nutrients in balanced quantities that are readily and steadily available throughout the growing season. OMFs improve soil physical properties, enhance fertility and support sustainable crop production. They also promote plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, offering a holistic approach to agricultural challenges. The development of OMFs aligns with the recycling of urban, industrial and agricultural residues, reducing dependency on raw materials for chemical fertilizers and contributing to environmental sustainability. Advances in OMF preparation, using various mineral and organic matrices, have demonstrated their ability to address nutrient deficiencies, particularly in tropical soils, where poor fertility often limits productivity. OMFs enhance soil physico-chemical and biological properties, addressing soil degradation while improving crop yield and quality. They ensure an optimal supply of nutrients, support long-term soil health and align with modern fertilizer management strategies aimed at sustainable agricultural productivity. In conclusion, OMFs are a promising solution for boosting crop quality and yield while maintaining soil fertility. By incorporating the advantages of organic and inorganic inputs, they provide a balanced, sustainable, and efficient strategy to address growing demands for food production
