    Study on Microstructure of Recycled Aggregate Concrete by Scanning Electron Microscopy: A Review

    Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) is a new type of concrete made by utilizing waste concrete as aggregate after treatment. With the enhancement of environmental awareness and resource conservation, but the microstructural part of recycled aggregate concrete is not as important as the macro performance enhancement aspect by scholars. And Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is a powerful tool for microanalysis, which can provide high-resolution images of samples as well as information on surface morphology and microstructure. In this paper, the micro-structure of RAC will be comprehensively analyzed according to the performance characteristics of RAC materials and the relevant analysis technology of SEM. Based on the microscopic technology of SEM, the research progress of the micro-structure of RAC was carried out, and the morphology and distribution characteristics of recycled aggregate particles, pore structure and porosity, the interface combination between recycled aggregate and cement matrix, and the relationship between micro-structure and RAC properties were summarized, which provided theoretical support for the future understanding of the micro-structure of RAC, increased the understanding of the micro-structure of RAC materials, and more systematically understood the application of microscopic analysis methods in RAC

    Development and Quality Evaluation of Cookies from Lima Bean and Emmer Wheat

    The increasing interest in nutritious and functional foods has led to the investigation of alternative grains with enhanced health benefits. This research centres on developing highly nutritious cookies using lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) and emmer wheat (Triticum dicoccon Schrank). These grains are cultivated for their outstanding nutritional qualities, such as high protein, essential minerals and bioactive compounds, making them ideal for creating health-promoting food products. The physical properties and chemical composition of lima bean and emmer wheat seeds were investigated. Five distinct trials with varying blends of lima bean and emmer wheat were carried out, with proportions of emmer wheat to lima bean being 50:50 (T1), 60:40 (T2), 70:30 (T3), 80:20 (T4) and 90:10 (T5). The physical and sensory analysis of the all developed cookies was performed and sample T3 was selected for physical and chemical analysis among all the samples after sensory analysis. Analytical methods were used to evaluate the nutrient composition, including protein, fiber and mineral content. Storage study of 60 days developed cookies also evaluated. It was found that the cookies gained moisture and lost fat, protein, fibre and energy over the storage period, with carbohydrate content showing minor fluctuations. The data obtained in the present investigation are sufficient to conclude that lima bean is an effective substitute for wheat flour in cookies preparation. The cookies prepared using lima bean were found to be acceptable in terms of quality characteristics. This substitution increased the protein content of the cookies. The cookies made with a 30% replacement of wheat flour with lima bean flour were the most acceptable

    Summary of Research Status on Seismic Performance of Multi-tower Cable-stayed Bridge

    As one of the important forms of modern bridge structure, the research on the seismic performance of multi-tower cable-stayed bridge is of great significance to the safety and durability of bridge engineering. In this paper, the research status of seismic performance of multi-tower cable-stayed bridges is reviewed from three aspects: experimental research, numerical analysis and theoretical research. The methods of improving seismic performance through structural optimization and the technical means of improving seismic performance through constraint system are discussed. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the existing research results, identify the existing problems, and propose that future research should focus on the application of new damping equipment and the discussion of hybrid control system, so as to provide reference for the seismic design of multi-tower cable-stayed bridge

    Homeostatic, Glucolytic and Lipolytic Presentations Before and after Soccer Game

    Soccer is a worldwide game played for health, entertainment and economic purposes. The effect of soccer activities on homeostatic, glucolytic and lipolytic biochemical parameters were estimated before and after 90 minutes of a full-time game.  Twenty-two (22) male soccer players from a second-tier squad took part in the investigation.  The biochemical parameters which included serum electrolytes, plasma glucose, serum proteins and lipids were analyzed using standard WHO-approved methods. All data were analyzed using student t-test on SPSS 23 version.  The study showed that there was a significant increase in the concentrations of glucose & a decrease in potassium (p<0.05) after the soccer game. The other parameters analyzed were not significant. In conclusion, glucose and potassium concentrations should be monitored before and after regular exercise to avoid possible adverse outcomes associated with hypoglycaemia and/or hyperkalemia

    Transforming Milk Tea: Harnessing Nypa fruticans Mesocarp Flour as an Alternative for Tapioca Pearl for Sustainable Product Development and Innovation

    Nypa fruticans, known as nypa, is a fast fruit-bearing mangrove palm with immeasurable potential. This dissertation used the mature fruit mesocarp, a byproduct of the Nypa palm. Thus, the byproduct is underrated for some reason, and mostly, they are neglected due to a lack of public knowledge of its most potential. This research used the Nypa Fruitican Mesocarp fruit from Brgy. Sabang, Surigao City. The quest for sustainable alternatives in exploring mesocarp flour as a potential substitute for traditional tapioca pearls in milk tea beverages. Begins with a comprehensive determination of mesocarp flour\u27s functional properties using the ANNOVA ONE WAY test p>0.05. The result of all the data is 0.098; therefore, Pearl made from Mesocarp flour is a sustainable innovation. The functional properties of pearls made from cassava and mesocarps have no significant difference. Further, practical application forms a core component of this study, involving mesocarp flour formulations to replicate tapioca pearls. The cooking process and consumer acceptance are rigorously analyzed to determine their compatibility and desirability in this popular beverage. Analysis of variants showed that Pearls, once made from Mesocarp of Nypa fruticans incorporated into the milk tea beverage, have 4.3 overall acceptance, and the best organoleptic test with texture, aroma, and color is 4.3 (likes). Additionally, this research contributes a nuanced understanding of mesocarp flour\u27s potential against traditional tapioca pearls, considering cost-effectiveness, scalability, and consumer preferences, thereby fostering innovation in sustainable beverage production

    Clinical Management of Acute Kidney Injury in Dogs with Babesiosis: A Case Report

    One two-year-old Indian local dog was presented with a history of low appetite, urinary incontinence, hind leg weakness for last 3 days. Upon physical inspection, notable findings included high rise of temperature (104.1°F), dehydration, pale mucous membranes, anuria, recumbency and severe debilitation. RBC count, Hb level were lowered. The animal showed high level of serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and thrombocytopenia. Based on blood smear examination and haematology, the case was diagnosed as canine babesiosis with acute kidney injury. The case was successfully treated with combined therapy of Diminazene aceturate and Doxycycline supplemented with renal support

    Investigating the Effect of Teacher Qualification on Students’ Performance in Mathematics Instruction in Asunafo North Municipality

    Mathematics has a positive impact on the world, but students\u27 performance in the subject is declining. Many researchers believe that one of the causes of this decline is the lack of qualified teachers. To investigate this further, a study was conducted in the Asunafo North Municipality to examine the effect of teacher qualifications on students\u27 performance in mathematics classrooms. A descriptive survey research design was utilized to conduct this study which included 76 respondents, consisting of 60 students (WASSCE candidates) and 16 final year mathematics teachers. This was done through a purposive sampling technique for the sample of teachers and a simple random sampling for the selecting of the WASSCE students. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews, and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 23. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, mean, and standard deviation were used, as well as paired samples T-test to answer the hypothesis testing. The results of the study showed that students taught by highly qualified teachers performed better than those taught by less qualified teachers. This indicates that teacher qualification has a significant impact on students\u27 performance in mathematics. The study concludes that teacher qualification is a major factor affecting students\u27 academic performance in mathematics. Based on the findings, it is recommended that education stakeholders in Ghana, including the Ministry of Education, should employ only qualified teachers who are graduates or masters’ holders with teaching qualifications to teach mathematics at the SHS level

    Recipes for Happiness: Conversations on Happiness and Well-being in the School Environment

    Background: Since ancient times, the debate around happiness has been present in philosophical reflections. In the face of an increasingly complex society, impacted by several crisis, the need and urgency to debate conceptualizations of happiness and well-being is evident, and educational institutions may play a relevant role in this process. Objective: Considering philosophical and current psychological perspectives on well-being, this paper seeks to analyze children’s perceptions of happiness through the analysis of an anthology of recipes for happiness created by elementary school children in a public school in Brazil. Methodology: A qualitative analysis was carried out based on the content of 15 recipes for happiness, produced by 6th grade students at a federal public school in Brazil. Content analysis was conducted associating the thematic categories of the article “children’s conceptualizations of happiness” with the ingredients of the recipes for happiness. Results: Among the corpus of recipes analyzed in the study, positive feelings were present in 86.7% of the recipes, followed by positive self (66.7%), then friendship (46.7%), and leisure (33.3%). Conclusion: The results demonstrate writing recipes for happiness can be considered an effective intervention to articulate the debate about well-being in the school environment. Furthermore, understanding children\u27s perceptions of happiness can be important data for developing well-being policies in schools

    Effect of Behavioral Biases and Financial Literacy on Investors’ Investment Decision-making in Kerala, India

    The effect of behavioral biases and financial literacy on investment decision-making among individual investors in the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange were investigated in this research. The study explores the relationships between behavioral biases such as herding, overconfidence, and anchoring, and market anomalies, including fundamental and technical anomalies. Utilizing a structured questionnaire with a sample size of 220 and employed structural equation modeling (SEM) using AMOS, to evaluate the hypotheses outlined in conceptual framework. The findings reveal significant associations between these biases and anomalies, highlighting their substantial influence on investment decisions. Notably, herding bias (HB) and anchoring bias (AB) positively influence both fundamental anomalies (FA) and technical anomalies (TA), while overconfidence bias (OB) negatively impacts fundamental anomalies (FA). Moreover, financial literacy is identified as a crucial moderator, affecting the decision-making process. While limitations exist, such as potential biases in data collection, the study underscores the importance of addressing behavioral biases and enhancing financial literacy to promote informed investment strategies and market stability. These findings contribute to enhancing financial knowledge and market efficiency

    Tourism Policies and Performance of Nigerian Heritage Sites

    Background: Tourism policies have a significant impact on the preservation, promotion, and overall performance of heritage sites for both domestic and international tourists. This review provides insights into the entities responsible for tourism policy formulation, the policy objective, and how the stated objectives are being realized while shedding light on their implications for sustainability, economic growth, and cultural preservation. The main objective of Nigeria\u27s tourism policy is to protect and improve the nation\u27s natural and cultural heritage. Many activities aimed at encouraging tourism development include planning, provision of infrastructure, taxation regime that supports tourism growth, education and training for tourism employees, marketing, legislation and regulation in order to protect and preserve tourist facilities as well as the country\u27s natural resources, historical and cultural assets. The critical concern is the enforcement and effectiveness of regulations, specifically the probability of a policy successfully promoting sustainable and viable tourism development and management. Aims: This paper therefore investigates the influence of tourism policies on the performance of heritage sites in Nigeria and the need for policy review for improved performance of Nigerian heritage sites. Methodology: The qualitative research paradigm emerged from a comprehensive review of tourism policy literature in Nigeria. The examination of documents and research projects focused on various aspects of tourism policy planning and governance, policy formulation, policy objectives, and their implications for sustainability, economic growth, and natural/cultural heritage preservation. In the data analysis, the comprehensive review were presented with an interpretative narrative. Results:  The findings revealed that Nigeria\u27s tourism policy seeks to empower the tourism industry and position it as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and cultural heritage preservation.  However, the policy\u27s ability to achieve its goals optimally has been significantly hampered by lack of relevant mechanisms to measure overall levels of compliance, overreliance on petroleum resources, poor planning, and inadequate participation of relevant stakeholders in policy formulation, implementation, and monitoring. Conclusion: Despite policies and frameworks, Nigeria\u27s tourism sector, including cultural heritage sites, has failed to reach its goals, losing the economy numerous potential benefits. In order to address the current circumstances and ensure successful heritage site design, development, and management in Nigeria, there is an urgent need for revision of the country’s tourism policy objectives and adequate enforcement measures implemented to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
