Influence of Dietary Zinc Supplementation on Serum Minerals (Zinc, Calcium, Phosphorus) and Liver Enzyme Level (ALP, ALT, GGT) in Layer Chicken
The Indian industry is presently focussed in production of eggs that have higher or enriched levels of certain nutrients. These eggs are capable of safeguarding the health of consumers. Designer eggs have high market demand because of the consumers’ willingness to purchase designer eggs due to its’ nutritional qualities additional to regular eggs. Considering these facts the current study was planned to produce zinc enriched eggs by supplementing laying hens’ diet with required levels of zinc. The present study was conducted at the Department of Veterinary Physiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, for 12 weeks. A total of 28 week old thirty two laying hens, belonging to crossbred (White Leghorn N strain and Desi) housed in the animal house attached to the department were used in the experiment. The treatments of this study included a control diet (according to BIS, 2007) fed group and zinc-supplemented group. Each of the experimental treatments had four replicates with four birds with all standard managemental conditions. The functional liver status of birds was not altered due to zinc supplementation, since the present study neither caused any toxicity nor imparted any negative effect on the production performance. Highly significant effect was observed on serum concentration of zinc and calcium. However, the phosphorus levels of treated birds were not significantly different from the control group
Assessment of Okra Genotypes for Resistance against Shoot and Fruit Borer, Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus and Enation Leaf Curl Virus under Natural Field Conditions
India is a key player in okra production with Andhra Pradesh leading state in cultivation. However, the crop faces significant challenges from Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV) and enation leaf curl virus (ELCV) which severely impact yield and quality. The study conducted at the Vegetable Research Farm, Regional Horticultural Research Station, evaluated 37 okra genotypes for resistance against these biotic stresses. The genotypes, including 8 parents and 28 hybrids were assessed under three different environments in a Randomized Block Design. The results revealed that none of the genotypes were immune to shoot and fruit borer infestation, YVMV and ELCV. However, some hybrids demonstrated resistance or tolerance to these stresses with the top three hybrids displaying high levels of resistance against shoot and fruit borer infestation, moderate resistance against YVMV and high tolerance to ELCV. Nevertheless, none of the hybrids showed consistent immunity across all environments
Impact of Covid-19 on Farmers\u27 Behavior in Chikkaballapur District, Karnataka, India
This study explored how COVID-19 affected farmers in Chikkaballapur District, Karnataka, India. Using an ex-post-facto research design, data were collected from 50 randomly selected farmers through a pretested structured interview schedule. The goal was to understand their perceptions of the pandemic\u27s impact on farming, productivity, economy, markets, labour, and community well-being. Statistical methods like mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, correlation, and multiple regression analysis were used to analyse the relationships between various factors. The findings showed significant variability in farm size and income, indicating a wide range of differences among farmers. Notably, changes in economic factors were significantly related to farm size, while changes in production were significantly related to education. Health and sanitation were negatively correlated with changes in farm technology, suggesting that better infrastructure could influence the adoption of new technologies. Age and education significantly impacted changes in farm management, highlighting the importance of demographic factors in farming decisions. The study emphasized the complex effects of the pandemic on farming practices and highlighted the need for targeted interventions. Recommendations include financial support programs, improved market access, promotion of digital tools, and diversified cropping strategies to help farmers build resilience and sustainability. These measures aim to reduce the adverse effects of crises and improve the overall well-being of farming communities
Seasonal Incidence of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) Infesting Groundnut with Respect to Leaf Damage
A field experiment was conducted at Main Oilseeds Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh in 2023 during the kharif season to investigate the seasonal incidence of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) infesting groundnut concerning leaf damage. The activity of the activity of S. litura began in the 31st standard meteorological week (SMW) in fourth week of July, with 5.53 per cent leaf damage initially. During the third week of August, the 34th SMW recorded the first peak of 12.97 per cent leaf damage. After a slight decrease in leaf damage, a second peak was seen in the 38th SMW, in third week of September, with 14.89 per cent leaf damage. In the following weeks, there was a decrease in the leaf damage, reaching its lowest during the 44th SMW, which fell on the fifth week of October, with 0.78 per cent leaf damage. The correlation studies showed a significant positive correlation between larval population and minimum temperature, morning relative humidity, and morning and evening vapor pressure (r = 0.613*, 0.515*, 0.637* and 0.577*, respectively)
Strengthening Method of Waste Concrete Aggregate
After the construction solid waste is broken, it is directly used as recycled aggregate, which often has the disadvantages of large porosity, high water absorption and low strength, resulting in low strength and poor durability of the recycled concrete prepared by it. Therefore, the effective use of recycled aggregate in concrete is limited. For this reason, researchers have carried out systematic research on the modification of recycled aggregate in order to realize the reuse of resources. The research shows that the strengthening methods of recycled aggregate can be divided into physical methods, chemical methods and microbial methods to make up for the defects of recycled aggregate. In this paper, the concrete content of recycled aggregate strengthening method is reviewed, which provides some theoretical support for the treatment of construction waste and its utilization as recycled aggregate
Assessment of Okra Powdery Mildew (Erysiphe Cichoracearum DC) by Using Bio-agents and Chemical Fungicides
The present study aimed to assess okra powdery mildew (Erysiphe Cichoracearum DC) by using bio-agents and chemical fungicides. Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench occupies a prominent place in the horticultural wealth and economy of the country. Powdery mildew disease on okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench incited by fungus, Erysiphe cichoracearum is a limiting factor in the successful cultivation in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. Studies were carried out to find out disease management strategies against okra powdery mildew using bioagents and chemical fungicides. Disease incidence declined after first, second and third sprays. The fungicide Hexaconazole (Contaf 5% EC) @ 0.1%, showed significantly lowest disease incidence (19.53 %) with maximum (68.40 %) disease control. On the basis of effectiveness in controlling the powdery mildew disease of okra the most effective fungicides recorded in the order of merit were Carbendazim (Bavistin 50WP) @0.1%, Propiconazole (Tilt 25EC) @0.1%, Trichoderma viride (3 %), Sulphur (Sulfex 80% WP) @ 0.3%, Pseudomonas flouresens (4 %) and Trichoderma harizum (4 %)
Mitigating Pearl Millet Blast (Pyricularia grisea): Effective Fungicidal Treatments
Pearl millet is a staple cereal grown in India. It encounters number of diseases which attack the crop during its growth, cause low yield and economic loss to the peasant ad finally to the nation as a whole. The blast also referred as leaf spot caused by Pyricularia grisea has emerged as a serious disease affecting both forage and grain production in pearl millet. in view of this a field experiment was conducted over three consecutive kharif seasons (2021, 2022 and 2023) at the Pearl Millet Research Station, JAU, Jamnagar, to assess to evaluate the efficacy of different fungicides in reducing the incidence and severity of blast disease in pearl millet as well as Identify the most effective fungicide formulations and application rates for minimizing blast intensity. On the basis of field and based on the pooled data Azoxystrobin 11% + Tebuconazole 18.30% SC, 0.05% recorded the lowest blast intensity at 30.20%, which was statistically at par with Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxystrobin 25% WG, 0.05% (31.65%). The control treatment recorded the highest blast intensity at 54.96%. In context to grain and fodder yield, highest grain yield (2135 kg/ha) and fodder yield (44.38 q/ha) recorded in treatment Azoxystrobin 11% + Tebuconazole 18.30% SC, 0.05% which was at par with Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxystrobin 25% WG, 0.05% (2054 kg/ha), Azoxystrobin 11% + Tebuconazole 18.30% SC, 0.625% (1940 kg/ha) and Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxystrobin 25% WG, 0.0375% (1851 kg/ha). In summary, Azoxystrobin 11% + Tebuconazole 18.30% SC, 0.05% was the most effective treatment for controlling blast and maximizing both grain and fodder yield. The performance of Tebuconazole 50% + Trifloxystrobin 25% WG, 0.05% was comparable in terms of blast intensity and yield parameters
Static Performance of Multi-Span Cable-stayed Bridge: A Review
The use of multi-span cable-stayed bridge is becoming more common. By collecting a large number of domestic literature in China, this paper mainly summarizes the research results of different research methods on the static performance of multi-span cable-stayed bridges. It shows the research on the mechanical properties of multi-tower cable-stayed bridges by different Chinese scholars. It has reference for the study of static performance of multi-span cable-stayed bridge. It is foreseeable that the future research on multi-tower cable-stayed bridges will develop in the direction of \u27 physical \u27 - \u27AI \u27 combination
Constraints Faced and Suggestions Offered by Women Self Help Group Members in Cuddalore District, India
Women\u27s empowerment is essential to ensuring equal access to opportunities and their rights are properly respected. This is accomplished by enhancing and expanding women\u27s social, economic, political, and legal existence. The present study was conducted in Cuddalore Block of Cuddalore District. A proportionate random sampling procedure was applied to select 120 respondents. They were members of Mahalir\u27s Women Self-Help Group. Thittam project under, the organizational efforts taken by the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women (TNCDW) to define the constraints faced and suggestions offered by the members of SHGs. The study found that lack of awareness about credit sources, followed by a lack of adequate communication skills and more dependence on leaders are the major personal constraints faced by women SHG members. Also, insufficient credit facilities, followed by a lack of periodical training and a lack of marketing channels for selling their produce, are the major organisational constraints women SHG members face. Among the suggestions, the majority of the members offered to increase the loan amount, enhance the subsidy amount to the women members and create employment opportunities for women members
Assessment of Noise Levels in Domestic Kitchen of Urban Areas of Jorhat City
Environmental parameter mainly noise has a profound effect on human performance, efficiency and efficacy. Noise is an invisible indoor environmental factor that affects the quality of life and productivity of the workers in cooking activity. The present study on assessment of noise level in domestic kitchen of urban areas of Jorhat city was proposed to assess noise level in the kitchen during cooking and to study the relationship between dependent and independent variables. A purposive cum random sampling method was adopted for the study. From Jorhat city 56 numbers of households were selected randomly and women who take part in cooking is unit of enquiry for the purpose of the study. Both interview and observation methods were used for the collection of data on noise level. Noise level-meter is an instrument used for measurement of noise level. Chi square test was done to identify the relationship between variables. The findings showed that the average noise level was found to be 64.70 dB which is more than the permissible or acceptable level of noise (55 dB). The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between noise with brand name of the kitchen chimney (‘p’=0.041*). Majority of the respondents were not aware about congenial kitchen environment and noise created by chimney in the study area. Conducive kitchen environment is very important to improve work performance and reduction of health hazards
