Dynamic atlasing of gene expression domains from individual images

    No full text
International audienceAnalyzing gene expression patterns over the tissue of an organ during growth is a means to decipher the biological mechanisms that control its shaping. For this, the organ is often sampled and imaged in different individuals at different developmental stages. However, estimating a continuous developmental process from a discrete dataset is an arduous task, especially if both size and shape evolve. We propose a strategy to: 1) integrate individual data to produce a comprehensive representation of the dynamic of expression patterns in a growing tissue, and 2) superimpose and compare patterns coming from different experimental groups. This opens the way to the integrative atlasing of expression patterns in an organ during its development. To illustrate our approach, we use a particularly challenging organ that can encompass huge shape changes during growth, the plant leaf

Santé connectée: co-design d’un nouveau service avec les consommateurs

International audienceNumerous health programs have tried to make people implement their diet to improve their health. These programs - mainly education and information-oriented - nevertheless sought to fight the epidemic of obesity and its potential outcomes on health disorders. We question how connected devices could provide a more effective method to promote healthy food. They can be used in a social marketing perspective to mix virtual entertainment and real commitment to a behavioural change, such as a healthier diet for a better life.

Variational Inference for sparse network reconstruction from count data

    No full text
International audienceThe problem of network reconstruction from continuous data has been extensively studied and most state of the art methods rely on variants of Gaussian Graphical Models (GGM). GGM are unfortunately badly suited to sparse count data spanning several orders of magnitude. Most inference methods for count data (SparCC, REBACCA, SPIEC-EASI, gCoda, etc) first transform counts to pseudo-Gaussian observations before using GGM. We rely instead on a PoissonLogNormal (PLN) model where counts follow Poisson distributions with parameters sampled from a latent multivariate Gaussian variable, and infer the network in the latent space using a variational inference procedure. This model allows us to (i) control for confounding covariates and differences in sampling efforts and (ii) integrate data sets from different origins. It is also competitive in terms of speed and accuracy with state of the art methods
