The double-edged sword of LMS in Basic Education Programmes: Teacher-Lived Experiences with KwaraLearn

This study explores the integration of KwaraLearn in basic schools to revolutionise teaching and administrative practices. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used for the study. Two research questions were raised to investigate the benefits and challenges faced by primary school teachers using KwaraLearn. Fourteen teachers were interviewed in person to elicit their views and lived experiences. Their responses were audio-taped and further validated with handwritten notes, and transcribed for thematic analysis. The research revealed that the platform offered significant advantages, including time optimisation through automated lesson tracking, a structured schedule that enhanced lesson organisation, and measurable academic progress with standardised assessment. However, these benefits are counterbalanced by persistent challenges, as mentioned by the teachers such as rushed teaching pace due to rigid digital timelines, resource deficits, particularly shortages of textbooks and supplementary materials for learners, and recurring technical issues that disrupted administrative tasks. While participants acknowledged KwaraLearn’s potential to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative tasks; concerns were raised on the technology-driven education platform and the classroom realities. This study concludes that the platform should be iterative and designed to prioritize teacher input and local realities to balance innovation with practicability

EnglishThis study examines the effectiveness of the Moodle platform as an adaptive learning tool in enhancing student engagement, learning outcomes, and attitudes toward technology among Grade 9 Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Cookery students at B. Durano Integrated School in Danao City, Cebu, Philippines. Sixty Grade 9 students enrolled in TLE Cookery were randomly selected and assigned to either the experimental group (n=30), which received Moodle-based instruction, or the control group (n=30), which experienced traditional teaching methods. Academic achievement was measured using teacher-made pre-test and post-test assessments, while student perceptions of Moodle were evaluated via a validated questionnaire based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which assessed perceived usefulness, ease of use, computer self-efficacy, attitude, and intention to use. Quantitative data were analysed using independent samples t-tests to determine differences in learning gains, and descriptive statistics summarized TAM-related responses. Results indicated that students in the Moodle group achieved significantly greater improvement in post-test scores compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Additionally, Moodle users reported strong positive perceptions and high acceptance of the platform across all TAM dimensions. These findings highlight the value of incorporating adaptive digital platforms like Moodle in skillbased education, providing evidence that such tools can promote academic success, engagement, and positive attitudes even in resource-limited environments

Artificial Intelligence-Dominated World: Can Cognitive Style Moderate Contribution of Students’ Creativity to Programming Achievement?

Programming skills are indispensable for the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. However, secondary school students often encounter difficulties in this particular aspect of computer science. This study investigated the moderating influence of students’ cognitive styles on the contribution of their creativity to their learning of programming. Utilizing the correlational design, the study surveyed 270 senior secondary school three (SS3) students from public senior secondary schools in the Ikeja Local Government Area, Lagos State, Nigeria. The survey data was collected using the Students’ Achievement Test in Programming (r=0.74), Programming Creative Style Inventory (0.86), and Cognitive Style Inventory in Programming (r=0.76). The data collected were analysed through descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics of hierarchical multiple regression. The findings of the study indicated that both creativity and cognitive styles significantly contributed to students’ programming learning. However, cognitive style did not play a moderating role in the influence of creativity on students’ programming achievement. From these findings, the study recommended that teachers promote students’ creativity by employing essay questions rather than multiple-choice formats and adapt their instructional strategies to cater to the diverse needs of learners, regardless of their cultural backgrounds. This study sheds light on the significance of creativity and cognitive style in programming learning, and the findings can be utilized to design interventions aimed at enhancing programming learning among students with varying cognitive styles

Picture This! Boosting ESL Writing with Storyboards

This study explores the use of storyboard templates as a visual learning tool to support ESL students in writing the CEFR-aligned PT3 English Essay (Part 1). Storyboarding allows students to visualize, plan, and organize their ideas in sequence, enabling them to write with greater confidence, clarity, and creativity. Rooted in cognitive and constructivist learning theories and aligned with the multiliteracies approach, the storyboard method promotes student-centered, multimodal engagement in the writing classroom. A qualitative research design was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews to investigate students’ perceptions and the impacts of using storyboard in their writing process. Thematic analysis revealed three key findings: (1) improved writing skills, particularly in structure and fluency, (2) enhanced confidence and time management, and (3) mixed reactions regarding limited writing space and constrained idea expression due to fixed visuals. While many students found the storyboard helpful as a guide for organizing ideas and managing time, some felt restricted by the predetermined images and limited space for elaboration. Vocabulary limitations also affected their ability to fully articulate their thoughts, especially when unfamiliar visuals were used. Despite these challenges, most students acknowledged the storyboard’s usefulness in supporting idea generation and essay planning. They also suggested expanding its use to other subjects, such as Malay Language and History, to enhance comprehension and narrative skills across disciplines. This study contributes to the field of ESL writing instruction by highlighting the pedagogical value of visual tools. Storyboarding offers a practical shift from conventional text-heavy methods to a more accessible and engaging model. However, its effectiveness depends on thoughtful implementation, particularly in designing flexible templates and selecting culturally appropriate visuals that support, rather than constrain, learners' expression
