SMART PORTABLE CRYOTHERAPY SYSTEM INVOLVING CONTROLLED THERMOELECTRIC COOLING MODULES FOR MEDICAL APPLICATIONS
When a person suffers from an injury, there are specific methods of treatment which are recommended according to the type of injury. One of these methods involves Cryotherapy, in which the part of the affected body is exposed to cooling for decreasing the temperature. The aim of this therapeutic method is to decrease cellular metabolism, increase cellular survival, decrease inflammation and reduce pain and spasm. The system designed in the present study involves the possibility of “smart†treatment using portable thermoelectric cooling devices based on electronic hardware, software and digital control techniques. In the proposed system, all stages of treatment have been performed automatically by using Arduino as the microcontroller to controlling temperature in cryotherapy methods. This research focus on usage of thermoelectric effect with Peltier module for smart electronic cooling and does not involve the usage of chemicals or cooling materials e.g. ice. Smart cooling methods have significant advantages that they are highly accurate and allow precise timing of the treatment especially for the athletes, and for whom the recovery time from injuries is critical. This approach can be fundamentally important for practical investigations relating to the timing of cryotherapy for any type of users. A NEW SPECTRUM AND ENERGY AWARE ROUTING PROTOCOL IN COGNITIVE RADIO SENSOR NETWORK
ABSTRACT: Cognitive radio sensor network (CRSN) is a new generation of communication systems that wants to solve the overcrowded spectrum utilization of the unlicensed bands. It has combined sensor networks and cognitive radio technology, so it has the challenges of energy restriction of sensors and also dynamic spectrum access of the cognitive radio network. On the other hand, considering both of these challenges in the routing protocol plays a basic role in network performance and we can’t apply the routing protocols that have been proposed for wireless sensor networks and cognitive radio networks, separately, in the CRSN. Therefore, this article has tried to provide a new spectrum and energy-aware routing protocol in which the source is able to choose the most stable route in the aspect of node residual energy or spectrum access probability. Not only can considering the nodal residual energy and spectrum access in the route discovery process avoid repetitive link failure, but it also can increase the network lifetime. This protocol has been compared with ESAC, SCR, ERP, and SER. The result of this comparison has shown that our protocol reduces end-to-end delay, control overhead, throughput, and lifetime in comparison to other protocols, especially in small-scale networks.
RECENT TRENDS IN DENGUE DETECTION METHODS USING BIOSENSORS
ABSTRACT: Dengue illness is an infectious tropical disease, transmitted by Aedes mosquitos, that poses a serious health threat to the tropical world. This disease causes widespread infection worldwide, with about 50 million cases of dengue occurring per annum out of which 500,000 recorded cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever and 22,000 deaths. Currently, there are no effective vaccines available to prevent the spread of the infection. Accurate and rapid laboratory diagnostic tests are required for early detection to reduce patient mortality rate. In this paper, common laboratory diagnosis methods for detecting dengue virus infection are discussed. Currently, virus isolation, RT-PCR and serology methods provide the most direct and accurate response for detection of dengue. However, these methods require tedious steps, expensive requirements and expert staffs. Recent research have proposed the usage of biosensors as an alternative new technology for detection of dengue. In this work, various types of biosensors such as electrochemical, piezoelectric, and optical biosensor have been described and compared to evaluate their effectiveness in dengue detection. It is observed that the optical biosensor offers the best detection due to its high sensitivity as compared to others, although it is popularly known as an expensive method. Alternatively, the use of electrochemical and piezoelectric biosensors (QCM) is highly recommended for detection of dengue due to their ease-of-use, low cost, low reagent consumption, disposability, and minimal sample preparation. These approaches have the potential to improve the rate of survival, particularly in resource-limited countries.
NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF TUNNEL LED LIGHTING MAINTENANCE FACTOR
ABSTRACT: It is necessary to periodically maintain lighting equipment in accordance with international standards. Contamination of lamps caused by long-term use of lighting equipment will result in loss of Luminous Flux and optical losses. The decrease in lighting performance poses a visual difficulty for drivers and causes accidents. In this study, the total Maintenance Factor is numerically examined by considering the losses of diffuser and lens for LED lamps used in tunnel lighting. The variation of luminaries performance with years considering Maintenance Factors as regards environmental conditions and features of the luminaries is evaluated to demonstrate the importance of tunnel lighting maintenance. Moreover, to show the importance of LED lamps Maintenance Factor, the variation of illumination levels of LED lamps is analysed under different Maintenance Factors. It is observed that enhancing Maintenance Factor would contribute to energy efficiency.

DIRECT POWER CONTROL OF A DFIG BASED WIND TURBINS UNDER UNBALANCED GRID VOLTAGE WITHOUT ROTOR POSITION SENSOR
In this paper, the behavior of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is proposed under unbalanced grid voltage and without using a rotor position sensor. There are two main methods that are been used for the detection of rotor position: using shaft sensor and sensorless algorithm. In this paper the shaft sensor is eliminated and a position sensorless algorithm is used for estimating the rotor position. Sensorless operation is more desirable than using shaft sensor, because the shaft sensor has several disadvantages related to the cost, cabling, robustness and maintenance. Also, during network unbalance, three selectable control targets are identified for the rotor side converter (RSC), i.e., obtaining sinusoidal and symmetrical stator currents, mitigation of active and reactive powers ripples and the cancellation of electromagnetic torque oscillations. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is confirmed by the simulation results from a 2-MW DFIG system. It is concluded that the sensorless algorithm is able to produce accurate results similar to the case of that used from shaft sensor and it can be used in the practical applications
ENERGY EFFICENT AUCTION BASED DYNAMIC SPECTRUM ACCESS NETWORK
A framework is proposed which is aimed at increasing the much needed revenue of the wireless service providers. The model uses the price paid by the wireless users to control the amount of energy consumed and the admission process based on a dynamic spectrum access network. The scheme is based on using a first price auction process with a reserve price to allocate the radio spectrum. It allows an opportunistic access to the white space in a manner that would protect the primary users in the system. The concept of green payment is used to penalise users who require high transmit power and subsidies those who require low transmit power. This work shows that with the proposed green payment in combination with the knowledge of the reserve price, the energy consumed and the delay in an auction based dynamic spectrum access network can be reduced
ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF POLYLACTIC ACID-BLOCK-POLY(2-VINYLPYRIDINE)/GOLD NANOPARTICLE COMPOSITES FOR GLUCOSE BIOSENSOR DEVELOPMENT
Nanocomposites that consist of diblock copolymer (BCP) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) can be applied as a matrix to immobilize enzymes or other molecules based on the well-defined core/shell nanostructures of these composites. In this research, polylactic acid-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PLA-b-P2VP)/hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III) hydrate (HAuCl4.3H2O) composites were hybridized and then reduced in dichloromethane (DCM) solution. The hybridizations between gold precursors and the P2VP domain were prepared with different ratios of gold to P2VP block (1:1, 1:5, 1:10, 5:1, 10:1) by taking advantage of the association between the long-pair nitrogen of the pyridine group of P2VP. The reduction of the Au3+/PLA-b-P2VP composite was accomplished by hydrazine solution in order to get gold nanoparticle/PLA-b-P2VP composites, which was visually confirmed by a direct color change from bright yellow to purple. In this work, ultraviolet–visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to confirm the association between gold precursors and pyridine groups as well as the synthesis of gold nanoparticles. The composite which labeled as R3 (Au3+: P2VP = 10:1) showed the highest peak current based on the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurment. Furthermore, graphene oxide (GO) was added into R3 to prepare BCP/AuNPs/GO composite and reduced to BCP/AuNPs/rGO through electrochemical reduction. The resulting BCP/AuNPs/rGO showed high potential to be used in amperometric biosensor
CHALLENGES IN TEXTILE WASTEWATER AND CURRENT PALLIATIVE METHODS: AN OVERVIEW
Effluents from dye and textile industries are highly contaminated and toxic to the environment. High concentration of non-biodegradable compounds contributes to increased biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the wastewater bodies. Dyes found in wastewater from textile industries are carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic. Biological processes involving certain bacteria, fungi, activated carbon and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are promising methods for treating the waste water. These methods are either inefficient or ineffective. These complexities necessitates search for new approaches that will offset all the shortcomings of the present solutions to the challenges faced with textile wastewater management. This article reviews the past and recent methods used in the treatment of the textile dye wastewater and the future opportunities for efficient treatment of textiles wastewaters
DETECTOR RESPONSE FROM THERMAL NEUTRON ACTIVATION OF CONCEALED EXPLOSIVES
Explosives concealed in small quatitites (~100 g), buried in landmines or in baggage, can be detected by characteristic gamma rays produced by neutron activation. However, the detection response can be reduced by attenuation of the signal in the background medium. This paper carries out a Monte Carlo simulation, using MCNP-V, to estimate the gamma signal spectrum and intesity degradation at a sodium iodide (NaI) detector from a small sample of trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosive buried in limestone. It is found that the transmission across 25 cm of limestone is ~6% of the 2.2233 MeV hydrogen signal and ~20% of the nitrogen signal. An empirical formula, obtained from MCNP re-runs, is used to estimate the signal strength from TNT, buried at 5-25 cm in limestone, for a californium source (252Cf) emitting 2.31 x 107 n/s. It is found that for TNT mass in the range 0.1-3 kg, the signatures are in the range 20-2000 s-1 from nitrogen and 24-2400 s-1 from hydrogen. These estimates can be used to determine the scanning time for an explosives detection system
