The effects of acetylsalicylic acid on performance, carcass traits, breast meat quality and white striping muscle defects in broiler chickens
AbstractBACKGROUNDThis research aims to reduce white striping muscle defects induced by vascular inflammation and hypoxia using the anti‐inflammatory, antiplatelet and anti‐atherothrombotic properties of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). To this end, the effects of different doses (0.3, 0.6, 1, 3 and 6 g L−1) of ASA added to drinking water at 24–48 days on growth performance, carcass traits, footpad dermatitis, white striping and breast meat quality parameters were investigated.RESULTSThe results indicate that 0.3, 1, 3 g L−1 and especially 0.6 g L−1 ASA treatment significantly improved growth performance and meat quality parameters. Also, doses of 0.3, 6 g L−1 and especially 0.6 g L−1 of ASA treatment reduced the incidence of white stripe muscle defects.CONCLUSIONSConsequently, 0.6 g L−1 ASA treatment reduced macrophage infiltrations and myodegeneration caused by growth rate. In addition, this dose increased vascular endothelial growth factor and decreased irisin level in breast muscle. The study also shows that high doses of ASA treatment (3 and 6 g L−1) may make footpad dermatitis more common. This may be due to the fact that ASA can cause side effects such as gizzard ulcers and kidney damage in broiler chickens. © 2025 The Author(s). Constructions of partial geometric difference sets from spread-like partitions
Partial geometric difference sets (PGDSs) were introduced by O. Olmez. In this paper, we construct partial geometric difference sets by using spread-like constructions method. We also give some PGDS constructions by using cosets of a finite group. We call it partial coset construction methods.https://doi.org/10.2298/fil2512183
An Architectural Battery Designed by Substituting Lithium with Second Main Group Metals (Be, Mg, Ca/Cathode) and Hybrid Oxide of Fourth Group Ones (Si, Ge, Sn/Anode) Nanomaterials Towards H2 Adsorption: A Computational Study
Germanium/tin-containing silicon oxide [SiO–(GeO/SnO)] nanoclusters have been designed with different Si/Ge/Sn particles and characterized as electrodes for magnesium-ion batteries (MIBs) due to forming MgBe [SiO–GeO], MgBe [SiO–SnO], MgCa [SiO–GeO], and MgCa [SiO–SnO] complexes. In this work, alkaline earth metals of magnesium (Mg), beryllium (Be), and calcium (Ca) have been studied in hybrid Mg-, Be-, and Ca-ion batteries. An expanded investigation on H capture by MgBe [SiO–(GeO/SnO)] or MgCa [SiO–(GeO/SnO)] complexes was probed using computational approaches due to density state analysis of charge density differences (CDD), total density of states (TDOS), and electron localization function (ELF) for hydrogenated hybrid clusters of MgBe [SiO–GeO], MgBe [SiO–SnO], MgCa [SiO–GeO], and MgCa [SiO–SnO]. Replacing Si by Ge/Sn content can increase battery capacity through MgBe [SiO–GeO], MgBe [SiO–SnO], MgCa [SiO–GeO], and MgCa [SiO–SnO] nanoclusters for hydrogen adsorption processes and could improve the rate performances by enhancing electrical conductivity. A small portion of Mg, Be, or Ca entering the Si–Ge or Si–Sn layer to replace the alkaline earth metal sites could improve the structural stability of the electrode material at high multiplicity, thereby improving the capacity retention rate. In fact, the MgBe [SiO–GeO] remarks a small enhancement in charge transfer before and after hydrogen adsorption, confirming the good structural stability. In addition, [SiO–(GeO/SnO)] anode material could augment the capacity owing to higher surface capacitive impacts.https://doi.org/10.3390/nano15130959http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/nano15130959https://doaj.org/article/d49379dd0f9b4f8298af183cee417df

Using Technical Analysis and Settlement Analysis Together in Stocks
The purpose of this study is to predict the future direction of asset prices in the stock market using historical data and to determine the timing of market entry and exit using technical analysis data. The study covers 10 liquid non-bank stocks listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange (BIST). The methods used for price predictions for these stocks are technical analysis and settlement analysis. Exchange analysis will be used to identify which stocks buyers are focusing on in the stock market, and technical indicators will be used on the stocks to determine the most appropriate entry and exit times. Thus, stock returns will be evaluated using technical data to predict the future direction of stock prices. In this context, it will be easy to see whether stocks are in a buy, sell, or hold position. In particular, the settlement analysis provides insights into whether there is demand for stocks from existing holders and new investors, as well as the future direction of stock prices. In this study, the connection between technical analysis signals and returns will be explored by considering changes in the settlement shares of the top five brokerage firms in stocks. In the settlement analysis, exchange data from July 2024 to August 2025 will be considered on a monthly basis. The exchange shares will be displayed for the top five brokerage firms, while the sum of the exchange shares of the dozens of brokerage firms outside this group will be shown as the “OTHERS” group. The EMA (Exponential Moving Average) was used as the technical indicator. The time periods used were the 5-day and 22-day averages. As a result, it is assumed that when technical and settlement analysis data are used together, stock returns increase for investors, thus contributing to a more robust investment strategy.https://doi.org/10.53048/johass.179327
High tibial osteotomy in geriatric patients with gonarthrosis
BACKGROUND: To evaluate the efficacy of medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) as a treatment modality in geriatric patients aged over 65 presenting with advanced gonarthrosis and severe clinical and functional knee problems. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on the medical records of 134 patients aged 65 and older who underwent MOWHTO at our clinic between 2016 and 2022. All patients’ preoperative knee radiographs were independently evaluated by different orthopedic surgeons to assess the degree of osteoarthritis, and deviations in anatomical and mechanical axis values were measured using ortho-radiograms. In cases where radiological imaging posed difficulties in evaluation, classification was performed using magnetic resonance imaging. The surgeries were conducted at a single center. Sixty-six patients with grade III-IV gonarthrosis constituted Group I, while 57 patients with grade I-II gonarthrosis formed Group II. The groups were evaluated clinically and functionally using the Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale, Hospital for Special Surgery Knee-Rating Scale (HSS), and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) preoperatively and at the postoperative sixth, 12th, and 18th months to determine the efficacy of MOWHTO. RESULTS: Group I exhibited significantly higher preoperative and postoperative VAS scores compared to Group II (p = 0.0001). Group II had significantly higher preoperative and postoperative Lysholm and HSS scores than Group I (p = 0.0001). In Group I, seven patients underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) within the postoperative first year, and 21 patients within the second year. In Group II, no patients required TKA within the first year, and only three patients required revision to TKA within the second year. In Group I, the main reason for conversion to TKA surgery in 28 patients within the first two years following MOWHTO was the presence of grade IV osteoarthritis according to the Kellgren and Lawrence classification and the age range of 70–75 years. CONCLUSION: MOWHTO is a highly effective procedure for mitigating pain and functional limitations associated with osteoarthritis in geriatric patients with grade I-II gonarthrosis. The efficacy of MOWHTO in patients with grade III-IV osteoarthritis is significantly lower than that in grades I-II, and the treatment method should be selected with caution.https://doi.org/10.1186/s12877-025-06166-3http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/s12877-025-06166-

Mechanism for Improving Acid-Induced Hazelnut Protein Gels Through High-Pressure Homogenization: Effect on Structural, Rheological and Gelling Properties
This study aimed to investigate the effects of high-pressure homogenization (HPH) (0, 25, 50, 100, and 150 MPa) pretreatment on the structural, rheological, and gelling properties of alkaline-extracted hazelnut protein isolate gels induced by glucono-δ-lactone (GDL). Homogenization pretreatment shortened the time required to obtain the maximum G′ value (12.65 Pa) from 32 to 28 min in the control sample. The particle size of protein isolates decreased with increasing pressure, resulting in lower particle size aggregates after gelation and in a denser gel structure with increasing gel hardness (from 1.52 g to 2.06 g) and WHC (from 31.95% to 48.36%). FT-IR spectroscopy revealed that HPH pretreatment and gelling time changed the secondary structure of the protein, promoting the formation of hazelnut protein gels. Hazelnut gel pretreated at 150 MPa exhibited the highest apparent viscosity and G′ value, indicating a more elastic and stronger gel network structure. The gel intermolecular force results showed that the contribution of hydrophobic interactions to gel formation was significant, and the chemical bond content of the gels increased with the increase in pressure up to 100 MPa. The physical stability of the gels was also improved by HPH pretreatment. Although the best WHC and physical stability were observed in the 100 MPa-pretreated gel sample, the hazelnut protein isolate pretreated at 150 MPa exhibited the best gel performance. Overall, HPH pretreatment has the potential to enhance hazelnut protein gel properties for industrial food applications.https://doi.org/10.3390/foods14183273https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41008246/https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12469537/https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14551/2827
Characterization of ti(IV) doped zno based dilute magnetic semiconductor nano powders and thin films synthesized by the sol-gel method
