Approach learning high-order thinking skills to improve civic knowledge in Pancasila and Civic Education
Higher-order thinking skills require students to process information critically using specific methods to develop new understandings and insights. This approach encourages students to integrate reality with critical thinking, allowing them to analyse, synthesise, conclude, and evaluate information before reaching a final decision. This study employs an explanatory subjective exploration approach, focusing on interactive processes that provide a comprehensive description through subjective analysis. Educators formulate questions based on specific learning indicators, using simple and accessible language to ensure students can engage effectively. Classroom debates help students develop fundamental thinking skills, enabling them to analyse and address issues objectively without bias. In Pancasila and Civic Education (PCE), the HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) approach is applied selectively, as students have varying capacities. Teachers assess students through written responses to comprehension-based questions derived from lesson materials. Indonesia’s education system emphasises civic education, aiming to enhance students’ understanding of national identity and uniqueness
Marakka\u27 bola as an educational vehicle for youth character values in South Sulawesi
This study explores the Marakka\u27 Bola tradition as an educational medium to instil character values in the youth of South Sulawesi. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The Marakka\u27 Bola tradition, widely practised in Palakka Village, Barru District, embodies the values of unity, cooperation, and integrity. The findings reveal that the Marakka\u27 Bola tradition is a significant cultural heritage of the Bugis community, recognised as an intangible cultural asset of Indonesia. It is a practical application of Pancasila values, particularly gotong royong (cooperation). However, the research identifies challenges, such as waning youth participation in traditional practices due to modernisation and a lack of cultural and educational significance awareness. By engaging in Marakka\u27 Bola, participants experience a sense of togetherness and solidarity, essential for cultivating a strong societal character. This study underscores the importance of preserving ancestral traditions like Marakka\u27 Bola, not only as a cultural identity but also as a dynamic tool for character education. The research advocates for integrating traditional practices into broader educational frameworks to address contemporary challenges in youth character development and enhance community cohesion
Youth sport values: A comparative analysis between urban and rural students
Sports and physical education have an essential role in improving morality in adolescents by implementing sports values, especially in overcoming juvenile delinquency and negative behaviour, one of which is bullying. This research seeks to investigate the comparison of sports values in students based on their environment. This study employs a numerical descriptive approach with a comparative survey design conducted in two schools, namely junior high schools and vocational high schools in Bandung Greater, with a total of 1,531 (869 students living in villages and 662 students living in cities) aged 14-17 years. The instrument in this study used the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2), with data analysis using the Mann - Whitney U test. The Findings revealed a notable distinction in the Means Ranks value between villages and cities on Youth Sport Values (sig 0.011). The result show that urban areas have higher Youth Sport Values than rural areas. Several factors, including adequate sports facilities and a developing sports culture in the city, can influence this difference. These findings may indicate the importance of increasing access to sports facilities and emphasizing physical education in order to improve moral values and sportsmanship in students. Further research can examine more deeply the dynamics of the formation of sports values in various contexts using different research methods
The application of blended learning methods to enhance cognitive function and self-efficacy
This study aims to evaluate the improvement of cognitive function and self-efficacy among students through the application of blended learning methods. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 36 students from class X MIPA 5 at SMA Negeri 2 Wonogiri. Cognitive function data were collected using cognitive tests, while self-efficacy data were gathered through a self-efficacy scale questionnaire. The results showed that the application of blended learning methods effectively improved students\u27 cognitive function. Before the intervention, the average cognitive score of students was 59.0%, which increased to 66.8% after the first cycle and reached 76.8% after the second cycle. The most significant improvements were observed in the dimensions of analysis and evaluation skills, with the average score increasing from 58.0% to 76.0% for analysis, and from 55.5% to 73.5% for evaluation after two cycles. Additionally, students\u27 self-efficacy also showed significant improvement, with 30% of students at a high level, 68% at a moderate level, and only 2% at a low level after the second cycle. This study concludes that the blended learning method not only enhances students\u27 overall cognitive abilities but also strengthens their confidence in tackling academic tasks
Strategic development of a quality PE system in Cambodia
Cambodia is currently undergoing comprehensive education reform, with Physical Education (PE) emerging as a distinct and strategically important area. This study explores the structural and systemic development of PE within Cambodia\u27s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), emphasizing the role of international collaboration, particularly through the NGO Hearts of Gold (HG) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Since 2006, several initiatives have been implemented to develop PE curricula and teacher training systems across primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary levels. However, despite policy progress, PE implementation remains inconsistent due to gaps in teacher training, unclear curriculum alignment, and inter-departmental coordination. This study uses a qualitative, documentary-based approach to analyze curriculum frameworks, institutional structures, and training systems. Findings highlight the critical need for integrated planning among key departments (DPESS, NIPES, and GDS) and a consistent training pipeline for PE teachers. Moreover, the study identifies a lack of pedagogical content in earlier PE classes, where activities were limited to basic physical drills without educational objectives. The research proposes a strategic plan that focuses on improving curriculum implementation, reinforcing teacher training through pre-service and in-service alignment, and ensuring systemic oversight for sustainable development. Ultimately, this paper advocates for a holistic PE system that is inclusive, quality-oriented, and aligned with Cambodia’s broader educational reforms, to foster lifelong physical literacy and student development
Promoting diversity tolerance among Indonesians through smart mobile civic media in Citizenship Education
The formation of student characters is carried out with variations in the form of digital-based Smart Mobile Civic learning media innovations that can be applied to learning civic education. It is hoped that this innovation has the potential to improve critical, rational, and creative thinking skills following Pancasila\u27s values in responding to various problems in the field of citizenship. This research aims to (1) analyse the implementation and improvement of tolerance character. (2) analysis of the effectiveness of the tolerant values applied in Smart Mobile Civic. The research results show that: (1) Lecturers act as presenters and models for students to develop good values. (2) Smart Mobile Civic is an effective medium for efforts to form an attitude of tolerance shown through the learning achievements of citizens\u27 rights and obligations in maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. The diversity of Indonesian society as a Unitary State is integrated with the Teaching Module developed with the Smart Mobile Civic application. It is very relevant to the demands of digitalisation of citizenship education learning technology as a form of increasing civic disposition competence, which develops attitudes as a form of implementing citizenship education and achieving the Pancasila student profile, namely having six main characteristics: faith, devotion to God Almighty, and noble character, global diversity, cooperation, independence, critical thinking and creativity
Optimising the national strategy for progressive employment absorption to ensure the rights and responsibilities of citizens in Indonesia
Indonesia is experiencing a demographic transition phenomenon. This can be seen from the results of the 2010 population census, which showed a positive trend in the productive age population, namely 15-64 years. In that year, the proportion reached 66% of the total population. The potential growth of Indonesia\u27s productive population can be an engine of sustainable economic growth or a source of social conflict between classes in the future, if the government cannot handle this potential, it will become a problem related to fulfilling the rights of citizens to get decent work, because instead of being absorbed into the workforce, it will cause social conflict. The data used for this research is secondary data obtained from library materials such as books, journals, and data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The data used is a combined panel of time series and cross-sections from 2019 to 2023. The Human Development Index (HDI) of Central Java Province is still below the value of the HDI; this results in the HDI not having a significant effect on employment in the City / Regency in Central Java Province. This is because the human resources in the cities/districts of Central Java Province are still of low quality and unable to keep up with other provinces in Indonesia. The strategy that can be used in the framework of labour absorption is to improve resources to be more qualified so that they can get a job according to the business field they are interested in
Board games and Pancasila education: Teachers’ perspectives in supporting global diversity
Global diversity is an important element in the era of globalisation to form students able to adapt to intercultural situations. Teachers as facilitators help students achieve this by paying attention to learning components such as the media used. Teachers must have the instinct that the media used must have an impact on knowledge and attitudes. So, it is necessary for teachers\u27 perceptions regarding board game learning media to help develop media. This study aims to determine Pancasila Education teachers\u27 perceptions of board game media in interactive learning based on global diversity. The study used a mixed method with a concurrent equal status model. Quantitative and qualitative instruments refer to three aspects of interactive learning (student engagement, independent learning and cognitive load). Quantitative data were obtained through surveys, while qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews to support quantitative findings. The subjects of the study were Pancasila Education teachers in 12 Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools/MTSs throughout the city of Yogyakarta. The results of the study showed that interactive board game media based on global diversity supports Pancasila education learning. Teachers provide the perception that board games need to be adjusted to the values of diversity and inclusion and based on high-order thinking skills, also need to provide collaborative challenges, positive reward and punishment systems, and independent tasks such as art projects or essays. The material must be relevant to students, have simple rules and be age-appropriate. Interactive learning can strengthen the appreciation of differences in views and cultures, preserve noble values and improve intercultural adaptation
Identifying the causes of excessive weight gain in early childhood
The growing health hazards associated with obesity and excess weight, particularly in young children, have made efforts to avoid these issues a top priority. By employing a cross-sectional research design, this study seeks to determine the reasons for weight growth in young children. Fifty children served as research subjects. Multivariate analysis was the method of analysis employed. The study\u27s findings indicated a substantial (p \u3c0.05) correlation between early childhood weight gain and variation factors. According to the study\u27s findings, early childhood weight growth was associated with nutrition, parental genetics, and a lack of physical exercise. The growing health hazards associated with obesity and excess weight, particularly in young children, have made efforts to avoid these issues a top priority. This research was conducted in early childhood education and kindergartens in Kediri, East Java. Purposive sampling was used, meaning the sample was selected based on specific considerations, namely those who were overweight or obese. By employing a cross-sectional research design, this study seeks to determine the reasons for weight growth in young children. Fifty children served as research subjects. Multivariate analysis was the method of analysis employed. The results of the study were that the hereditary factor variable obtained a percentage of 56% with a p value of 0.045 which indicates p \u3c 0.05 proving that there is a significant relationship between hereditary factors and weight gain. The dietary pattern variable accounted for the highest percentage, at 62%, with a p-value of 0.023, indicating a p \u3c 0.05, demonstrating a significant relationship between dietary patterns and weight gain in early childhood. The final variable was physical activity, accounting for 54%. The p-value was 0.027, indicating a p \u3c 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between physical activity and weight gain. The conclusion of this study is that the variables of poor dietary management and lack of daily physical activity are factors that have a higher risk of weight gain
