Willingham Hall
No full textWillingham Hall was designated as a fallout shelter in the 1950s by the U.S. Defense Department. It became an administrative building beginning in 1969 when the Office of Career Development and Placement, a commuter lounge, and Social Science Department of Faculty were placed here. By 2004, English, History, and Political Science faculty are housed here. Renovations occurred in Willingham Hall in 2008 with refurbishing the first and second floors and completely renovating the basement to accommodate space for 16 new offices. Flooring was replaced, a new central heating and air unit was replaced, windows were replaced to be more energy efficient, and the building was brought up to code with handicap accessibility added.https://roar.una.edu/una_arch_images/1027/thumbnail.jp

No full textRepairs to Floyd Hall began March 18, 2002, to remove structurally unsound concrete, replace and resurface unsound rebar, and apply stabilizing coating to surfaces. Talk of adding an additional wing to Floyd Hall was discussed during this time as well to lower the cost of the many improvements needed to maintain this building, but these plans were scrapped. Unfortunately, the growing repairs were too much, and Floyd Hall was eventually demolished in 2017, giving way to the new Anderson College of Nursing building in December 2019.https://roar.una.edu/una_arch_images/1014/thumbnail.jp
Powers Hall, Florence State Teachers College
No full textConstructed in 1939 with the aid of the Federal Emergency Administration and directly supervised by the Public Works Administration, Powers Hall was built as a women\u27s residence hall and apartment dormitory. Named for Dr. James K. Powers, chair of Mathematics at State Normal College as well as president of the university from 1887-1897 and then again in 1911 until his death in 1913. The dormitory would accommodate approximately 60 girls (four girls would occupy a suite of three rooms with electrical cooking and refrigerator equipment in each suite for light housekeeping).
