    Get PDF
Introduction: Gangrene is defined as the decay or death of an organ or tissue due to a compromised blood supply. It is a perilous and fatal condition occurring most commonly due to diabetes. In general, people with diabetes have a significantly increased risk of lower extremity gangrene leading to amputation. Case Summary: A 70-year-old woman presented with diabetic gangrene of her right leg and foot since 4 months. The patient complained of swelling and blackish discoloration of the right foot and leg with offensive discharging ulcers on the first and third toes. She was diagnosed with diabetic foot gangrene and advised to undergo surgical amputation of the foot and debridement of the leg by a local surgeon within 4–5 days to stop the spread of gangrene. After an unsatisfactory outcome, the patient turned to homoeopathy to avoid amputation. After a detailed case-taking, analysis and repertorisation, Arsenic album 30C was prescribed. Within 3–4 months, there was an improvement in the limb without any surgical intervention. Calendula officinalis Q was used for cleaning the wound and regular dressing. This case depicts the importance of individualised homoeopathic medicine in treating gangrene effectively, thus obviating amputation

Tinea capitis treated with homoeopathic medicine Pulsatilla nigricans: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Introduction: Tinea infection is a common complaint encountered in day-to-day practice with increasing incidence, especially in countries such as India over the past decade. Tinea capitis is predominantly a disease of prepubertal children characterised by lesions of variable morphology on the scalp associated with itching, erythema, signs of inflammation and hair loss. Prompt recognition and treatment are necessary to prevent its spread due to its contagious nature, associated hair loss and the resultant psychological impact on social life. Individualised homoeopathic treatment has a significant scope in treating and combating such conditions cost-effectively through the totality of symptoms. Case Summary: A 12-year-old girl presented at an outpatient clinic with erythematous and circular lesions with itching, burning pain and hair fall. Pulsatilla nigricans 200 was prescribed initially and later Pulsatilla 1M was prescribed as per the homoeopathic principles. The case was followed up fortnightly for 6 months. The patient was successfully treated with marked improvement in signs and symptoms (especially during the rainy season, which is the usual time for aggravation of tinea infections) within 6 months with no aggravation and adverse events. The Modified Naranjo Criteria Score was used to establish the causal attribution to the prescribed medicine, with a total score of 9. This case report suggests that individualised homoeopathic medicines are useful in the treatment of tinea capitis

The second of April marks World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), every year globally. WAAD was designated by the United Nations in 2007 to help end stigmatization and discrimination against those with Autism and their caregivers. It aims to raise understanding and awareness of this global health issue at all levels of society. The alarming increase in prevalence (1 in 100-WHO) and potentially lifelong disabling nature of the disorder demands awareness as early identification and intervention are pivotal in the management of Autism

    Fundamentals of Reporting a Case

    Get PDF
Clinical case reports form a fundamental component of the homoeopathic medical literature and are the most popular amongst readers. Case reports illustrate evidence-based classical or contemporary homoeopathic treatment strategies, diagnostics or rare or unusual diseases managed with homoeopathy. They also serve the purpose of raising awareness of important clinical issues amongst the homoeopathic fraternity. Our last case report special issue (Volume 16, Issue 2, April–June 2022) received more than 12,000 downloads within a year. This success has encouraged us to publish another case report special issue this year. Our journal has received 95 submissions in the form of case reports or case series within the last year (2022–2023). Of these, 37.9% were rejected, 39% are under review at present, while 23.1% have been published

Introduction: Epilepsy can be defined as a seizure disorder that usually occurs unpredictably in the absence of any consistent provoking factors. It is a serious public health concern having a negative impact on jobs, careers, relationships, families or academic life and quality of life. Homoeopathy is successfully used for treating conditions like epilepsy. Hence, well-documented case reports demonstrating its usefulness are required. Here, we present a case of epilepsy that was managed with individualised homoeopathic medicine. Case Summary: A 40-year-old woman presented with complaints of epileptic attacks with unconsciousness for the last 5 years. The patient was treated with Stramonium in increasing potencies (200C, 1M) for 15 months, with significant improvement and no epileptic attacks in the last 8 months. The outcome was measured using the patient-weighted quality of life in epilepsy (QOLIE-10-P) scale every 3 months and the causal attribution of homoeopathic medicines was assessed through Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy (MONARCH). The QOLIE-10-P overall score was 3.45, but after 15 months of treatment, it was 1.22. The MONARCH score was 9, which suggested a ‘definite’ causal relationship between the medicine and the outcome. This report suggests that a correctly chosen homoeopathic medicine can be beneficial in the treatment of epilepsy

Colloid nodular goitre treated with homoeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum in LM potency: A case report

    Get PDF
Introduction: Colloid goitre is a common, benign lesion in the thyroid gland, involving a diffuse or nodular pattern. It is a clinical entity characterised by subsequent growth, structural or functional transformation of one or more areas within the normal thyroid tissue. A thyroid nodule can grow to be visible, which becomes a cosmetic concern for the patient. Case Summary: A 32-year-old female presented with the complaint of swelling on the right side of her neck for the past 1½ years. The case was diagnosed by ultrasonography as a right-sided colloid nodular goitre with internal cystic degeneration. She was advised by a surgeon for a right hemithyroidectomy. To avoid the surgery, she sought homoeopathic treatment. Based on the characteristic totality and individualisation, homoeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum was prescribed in LM potencies, after which the nodular goitre’s size was significantly reduced as observed on examination. The causal attribution between the homoeopathic intervention and the outcome of treatment was assessed by the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homeopathy score which suggested that the improvement in the patient can be attributed to the homoeopathic treatment provided. This clinical case report shows the positive effect of individualised homoeopathic treatment in colloid nodular goitre

Introduction: Pelvic inflammatory disease is a group of disorders that affects the female genital tract having varied presentation, ranging from asymptomatic to symptoms of reproductive disability, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, etc. With the homoeopathic treatment, promising results have been seen in research on various clinical disorders but there is paucity of research in the field of pelvic inflammatory disorders. A case of pelvic inflammatory disease, treated with individualized homoeopathic medicine is presented. Further research is needed to confirm the role of homoeopathy in pelvic inflammatory disease. Case summary: A 38-year-old woman presented with pain in the lower abdomen, discharge per vagina, and low back pain. The clinical history and ultrasonographic findings were suggestive of pelvic inflammatory disease. After thorough case taking, repertorization, and consulting with materia medica, the homoeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum in LM scale was prescribed. Gradual improvement was observed in the condition of the patient. The Modified Naranjo criteria (MONARCH) was used for causal attribution of improvement to the homoeopathic treatment

    Get PDF
Background: The overuse of pesticides has damaged biodiversity, raising concerns about the potential for genetic mutations in humans and other organisms caused by pesticide residues in food. The recent research has demonstrated that homoeopathic medicines can act as fertilisers for plant nourishment. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of homoeopathic medicines in vitro and on-farm trials. Methods: The impact of homoeopathic medicines, Sulphur 30C, Ocimum basilicum 30C and Cuprum metallicum 30C, on inhibiting the mycelial growth of Alternaria solani was studied in-vitro using Agar well-diffusion assay. In an on-farm trial using Solanum lycopersicum (PKM-1 variety) seeds, homoeopathic medicines Sulphur 30C, Cuprum metallicum 30C and Ocimum basilicum 30C, along with a standard fungicide (mancozeb) and water as controls, were evaluated for their impact on plant growth, fruit production and disease resistance, specifically targeting Alternaria solani infection. Results: In this study, Ocimum basilicum 30C showed the highest mycelial growth inhibition at concentrations of 20 μL, 60 μL and 80 μL (62.15%, 62.64% and 71.14%, respectively), followed by Sulphur 30C (58.07%, 61.53% and 69.61%) and Cuprum metallicum 30C (57.33%, 60.59% and 68.45%). In the on-farm trial, the effects of Sulphur 30C, Cuprum metallicum 30C and Ocimum basilicum 30C were found to be significantly greater than that of Mancozeb (P \u3c 0.01). Conclusion: Agro-homoeopathy is a promising alternative to chemical pesticides used in plants, thus promoting sustainable agriculture. All the homoeopathic medicines demonstrated significant antifungal effects, with Sulphur 30C showing higher inhibition against Alternaria solani, indicating its potential value in agriculture

Background: There is a growing concern about the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors globally. Objectives: This study assesses the impact of the integration of Ayush (homoeopathy along with yoga) in the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Stroke at the level of patients and conventional physicians. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on the participants already enrolled for the treatment of NCDs at 22 Ayush-Lifestyle Disorders clinics in four districts across India. Participants of any gender, aged 30 years or older, were included. A structured questionnaire covering knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding NCDs was filled out by the participants. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was applied to measure the relationship between KAP scores. Results: 1923 participants took part in the study. 68.7% (n = 1322) agreed with the benefits of homoeopathic medicine to a large extent, 29.7% (n = 917) agreed to some extent, and 1.5% (n = 29) did not agree about the merits of homoeopathy. 61.8% (n = 1189) participants noticed considerable changes in their health condition after taking homoeopathy and yoga, while 36.2% (n = 696) felt the change in health to some extent, and the remaining 1.1% (n = 22) did not notice any change. The correlation revealed significant positive linear correlations between knowledge-attitude (r = 0.49, P \u3c 0.001), knowledge-practice (r = 0.49, P \u3c 0.001) and attitude-practice (r = 0.52, P \u3c 0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate a successful integrated approach that can be adopted in providing healthcare to patients suffering from NCDs

    Get PDF
Background: The parasitic fungus Cordyceps sinensis (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) has been discovered in lepidopteran larvae, having known antitumor effects. Testing potentized Cordyceps sinensis in cancer cells could help broaden Homoeopathy cancer therapeutics. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to evaluate the antioxidant and cytotoxicity activity of potentized preparation of Cordyceps sinensis in carcinoma cell-lines. Methods: In this in vitro study, antioxidant activity was analyzed by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate assay and the dilution with more antioxidant potential was further analyzed for cytotoxicity, using 3-(4,5-dimethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay on various carcinoma cell lines: Breast cancer cell line (MCF-7), liver cancer cell line (HePG2), lung cancer cell line (A-549), and prostate cancer cell line (PC3). All experiments were carried out in triplicates. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and the means were compared by Duncan’s new multiple range test. Results: A higher antioxidant potential 377.40 μL/mL was seen in Cordyceps sinensis 30C, which was further analyzed for cytotoxicity in cell lines (MCF-7), (HePG2), (A-549), and (PC3) which it inhibited at concentrations 596.21 ± 3.32 μL/mL, 438.10 ± 2.39 μL/mL, 555.40 ± 3.08 μL/mL, and 656.42 ± 2.68 μL/mL, respectively. When comparing Cordyceps sinensis 30C to other cell lines, its cytotoxic activity against HEPG2 is particularly potent. Conclusion: This research demonstrates the usefulness of potentized preparation of Cordyceps sinensis, it will take additional studies comparing it to currently used drugs to determine whether or not it is significantly more efficient
