    Risk, Symptoms, and Well-Being: Emerging Adult Latent Profiles During Treatment

    Emerging adulthood seems to be a period of not only heightened risk for mental health symptoms, but also growth toward greater well-being. Mental health disorders are highest among adults ages 18 to 29 years, yet emerging adults are unlikely to access treatment. However, emerging adults can also experience gains in life satisfaction and interpersonal functioning, and mental health treatment for emerging adults tends to reduce symptoms. This dialectic of risk and growth has prompted a call for a specialty clinical practice focused on emerging adults and highlights a need for treatment effectiveness research that examines symptoms and well-being. We examined the influence of risk variables on change in a sample of emerging adult clients (N = 187; mean age = 25.82 years; 62.0% female; 75.9% White). Results provide evidence of improvement, conditioned by risk variables. Implications included integrating distinct interventions to reduce symptoms and promote well-being and addressing intra- and interpersonal processes associated with positive development

    Developing Collective Teacher Efficacy to Help Secondary Teachers Feel Confident in Their Positions

    This study evaluates the resources available to develop the efficacy and the collective teacher efficacy of Secondary School Teachers in handling students’ misbehavior, resulting in effective teachers satisfied with their teaching positions and students succeeding socially and academically. This study also examines the reasons and factors that cause teachers’ stress, burnout, and dissatisfaction at work. This literature review focuses on and highlights how self-efficacy and collective efficacy influences teaching, learning, and achievements in school. The studies reviewed in this study provide great information that supports my thesis statement. They indicated that collective efficacy enhances job satisfaction in teachers, influences student achievement, and promotes a positive school climate. This literature review suggests researchers conduct more studies of collective teacher efficacy, including school leadership, school climate, positive behavioral interventions, and classroom management support. Students’ challenging behavior has been causing stress, burnout, and job dissatisfaction among teachers. Continued professional development, training, a sense of togetherness, and building a school community are encouraged to ensure that teachers are happily committed and invested in their students’ learning. As a result, students are engaged in their learning and succeed academically and socially in school

    Teacher Feedback and Assessment Outcomes of Students: a Literature Review

    This paper examines the role of teacher feedback in improving the assessment outcomes of students. The literature review provides a brief overview of the types and levels of feedback, and discusses how the timing, format, and type of feedback affect the learning and assessment outcomes of students. This literature review reveals that feedback is valuable and it closes the gabs between learners’ current understanding and performance compared to their learning targets. It also gives information to both learners and instructors that lead to an adjustment of learning through the use of more effective strategies to achieve learning objectives. Furthermore, feedback should be provided to learners promptly with the information they need to improve both their learning and assessment outcomes

    Family perspectives of healthcare for relatives living with a mental illness

    Purpose: This study explored how parents, partners or spouses, siblings, and adult children, who had a relative living with a mental illness, experienced interactions with mental healthcare providers and staff. Design and Methods: A descriptive qualitative research process guided interviews with 20 family members about their experiences with the mental healthcare system. Findings: Analysis yielded similar and different themes of experience for each family role. Although navigating the mental system presented challenges, positive experiences affirmed family members\u27 contributions to caregiving.     Introduction: Alternative solutions in the form of herbal remedies meant to ease or expedite the process of labor have often been pursued and administered but have seldom been quantitatively tested for efficacy. Published research has shown some validation for some commonly used herbs such as blue cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides), red raspberry (Rubus idaeus), castor bean (Ricinus communis) and evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) on isolated mouse uterine strips. Methods: This study tested an array of herbs used by midwives in a labor induction tincture, which included black cohosh (Actaea racemosa), cramp bark (Viburnum opulus), partridgeberry (Mitchella repens), and motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca). Each of these four herbs were prepared as aqueous extracts and applied individually to uterine tissues in an organ bath apparatus. Results: Results and analyses indicated that all treatment tissues produced significant increases in contractile forces when compared to their own endogenous motilities (p-5M oxytocin. Conclusions: This study provides empirical support for the use of these plants as herbal uterotonics, and it is plausible that these results, collected in vitro, may support the use of such a tincture to enhance or augment labor in vivo. Consideration of the active constituents found in each herbal, their concentrations, solubilities, cell signalling pathways, and the potential to interact in a synergistic or attenuating manner would be beneficial prior to recommending a given herbal for use at an organismal level

    Hard color-singlet exchange in dijet events in proton-proton collisions at s =13 TeV

    Events where the two leading jets are separated by a pseudorapidity interval devoid of particle activity, known as jet-gap-jet events, are studied in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV. The signature is expected from hard color-singlet exchange. Each of the highest transverse momentum (pT) jets must have pTjet\u3e40 GeV and pseudorapidity 1.4\u3c|ηjet|\u3c4.7, with ηjet1ηjet2\u3c0, where jet1 and jet2 are the leading and subleading jets in pT, respectively. The analysis is based on data collected by the CMS and TOTEM experiments during a low luminosity, high-β∗ run at the CERN LHC in 2015, with an integrated luminosity of 0.66 pb-1. Events with a low number of charged particles with pT\u3e0.2 GeV in the interval |η|\u3c1 between the jets are observed in excess of calculations that assume only color-exchange. The fraction of events produced via color-singlet exchange, fCSE, is measured as a function of pTjet2, the pseudorapidity difference between the two leading jets, and the azimuthal angular separation between the two leading jets. The fraction fCSE has values of 0.4-1.0%. The results are compared with previous measurements and with predictions from perturbative quantum chromodynamics. In addition, the first study of jet-gap-jet events detected in association with an intact proton using a subsample of events with an integrated luminosity of 0.40 pb-1 is presented. The intact protons are detected with the Roman pot detectors of the TOTEM experiment. The fCSE in this sample is 2.91±0.70(stat)-1.01+1.08(syst) times larger than that for inclusive dijet production in dijets with similar kinematics

    Measurements of angular distance and momentum ratio distributions in three-jet and Z + two-jet final states in pp collisions

    Collinear (small-angle) and large-angle, as well as soft and hard radiations are investigated in three-jet and Z + two-jet events collected in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The normalized production cross sections are measured as a function of the ratio of transverse momenta of two jets and their angular separation. The measurements in the three-jet and Z + two-jet events are based on data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 8TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8fb-1. The Z + two-jet events are reconstructed in the dimuon decay channel of the Z boson. The three-jet measurement is extended to include s=13TeV data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3fb-1. The results are compared to predictions from event generators that include parton showers, multiple parton interactions, and hadronization. The collinear and soft regions are in general well described by parton showers, whereas the regions of large angular separation are often best described by calculations using higher-order matrix elements

    Measurement of the inclusive and differential Higgs boson production cross sections in the leptonic WW decay mode at √s = 13 TeV

    Measurements of the fiducial inclusive and differential production cross sections of the Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV are performed using events where the Higgs boson decays into a pair of W bosons that subsequently decay into a final state with an electron, a muon, and a pair of neutrinos. The analysis is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC during 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. Production cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum of the Higgs boson and the associated jet multiplicity. The Higgs boson signal is extracted and simultaneously unfolded to correct for selection efficiency and resolution effects using maximum-likelihood fits to the observed distributions in data. The integrated fiducial cross section is measured to be 86.5 ± 9.5 fb, consistent with the Standard Model expectation of 82.5 ± 4.2 fb. No significant deviation from the Standard Model expectations is observed in the differential measurements. [Figure not available: see fulltext.

    Search for the lepton flavor violating decay τ → 3μ in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV

    Results are reported from a search for the lepton flavor violating decay τ → 3μ in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 33.2 fb−1 recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016. The search exploits τ leptons produced in both W boson and heavy-flavor hadron decays. No significant excess above the expected background is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction ℬ(τ → 3μ) of 8.0 × 10−8 at 90% confidence level is obtained, with an expected upper limit of 6.9 × 10−8. [Figure not available: see fulltext.
