    No full text
Summary: What happens to those who did not hear the gospel before death, or who heard an incorrect version? What about those who were too young or who were otherwise unable to respond? Examining the biblical evidence and assessing the theological implications, James Beilby offers a careful consideration of the possibility for salvation after death Contents: The Destiny of the Unevangelized -- Postmortem Opportunity -- A Theological Argument for Postmortem Opportunity -- Scriptural Objections to Postmortem Opportunity -- Scriptural Evidence for Postmortem Opportunity -- A Historical Objection to Postmortem Opportunity -- Theological Objections to Postmortem Opportunity -- Inclusivism and Postmortem Opportunity -- Will All Be Saved? -- Postmortem Opportunity, Universalism, and Hell.https://spark.bethel.edu/faculty-books/1032/thumbnail.jp

Telehealth Use During the Prenatal Period: Strengths and Limitations

    Get PDF
Background/Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the risks and benefits of telehealth use during the prenatal period. With the increasing use of technology to provide healthcare, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical to examine the implications this care modality has on individuals and the community. Theoretical Framework: Katharine Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory was applied to the topic of telehealth use in the prenatal period. This theory explains that there is an immediate experience of strengthening when relief, ease, and transcendence are met and that an individual is more likely to exhibit health-seeking behaviors when comfort in these areas is achieved. Methods: 21 research articles were critically reviewed in order to determine the risks and benefits of telehealth use during the prenatal period. Search engines used included CINAHL & PubMed. Keywords used in the search process included “telehealth”, “pregnancy”, “obstetrics”, and “midwifery”. Results/Findings: Telehealth use during the prenatal period was found to increase patient satisfaction as well as provide equal or enhanced effectiveness and safety. It was also found that there is a lack of research focusing solely on how telehealth use during the antenatal period may contribute to health disparities. Some common barriers are noted which include access to internet or cell phone and language limitations. Implications for Research and Practice: While telehealth has many benefits, more evidence is needed to determine whether integration of such technologies into the prenatal care setting contributes to or improves health disparities. The provider should be mindful that some patients may not have access to certain technologies and that such modalities may not be able to be used by some due to language barriers

Happiness Groups as a Strategy for Transforming a Chinese Church from Attractional to Missional

    Get PDF
This project established that the love of God is the foundation of mission and evangelism. God loves people and calls Christians to participate in His redemptive mission. God calls Christians to bless them and make them a blessing to others. The church is believers who are gathered to bring nonbelievers to God. The nature of the church is missional. A missional church engages every believer to participate in the Great Commission. The incarnation of God demonstrates God’s love and reveals the model of mission and evangelism. The incarnational approach is entering other people’s worlds as Jesus Christ entered the world to identify with them without compromising biblical convictions, values, or standards. This project introduced a new evangelism approach, the “Happiness Groups” (HG) strategy. HG is a love-based incarnational group evangelism strategy developed to send Christians to their community to demonstrate God’s love to nonbelievers by loving them in their real-life settings and telling the gospel in their understandings. HG is the central ministry of the church to align the rest of the ministries toward fulfilling the Great Commission. It also is an on-the-job training platform that trains ordinary Christians to become effective gospel messengers to accomplish the extraordinary for God. Finally, this project adapted HG to transform the attractional evangelism strategy of a Chinese immigrant church in Southern California to an incarnational, missional strategy. This project conducted three rounds of HG (two rounds in person and one round in virtual). The data were analyzed, discussed, and evaluated. The result indicated that the HG strategy is effective in the North American Chinese church cultural context both in person and in virtual settings. The conversion, baptism, and coworker’s involvement were all improved significantly. The transformation successfully solved the low-effectiveness and low-involvement problems of the church. Recommendations and suggestions were provided

To Be Churched or Unchurched: The Millennial\u27s Dilemma

This project will address the decline of the millennial generation’s church attendance within the 08033 zip code during the past decade. The statistical data was gathered by the author of this thesis through several one-on-one discussions with the clergy of the five surveyed churches and with several millennial residents of the town of Haddonfield, New Jersey. Examples in the ministry of the apostle Paul were gathered from the MacDonald Believer’s Bible Commentary by William MacDonald and A Theology of the New Testament by George E. Ladd

Barriers to Employment for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities

    Get PDF
This literature review with an application emphasis examines barriers to employment that adolescents and young adults with intellectual disabilities face and looks at what high schools are doing to help them prepare for a job during and after high school. The responsibility to prepare adolescents and young adults with intellectual disabilities for employment falls on many people and should start early. Employability skills should be taught and practiced so that young people are prepared for employment. The research based applications are a handout of frequently employer-asked questions, a four-day unit plan focusing on employability skills, and a resource directory for families and educators to help young adults with intellectual disabilities find programs to assist them with employment and life outside of high school

A Quantitative Study of Factors Influencing Special Education Teachers’ Attrition: The Relationships Between Burnout, Personality, and Organizational Factors

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to examine if there is a relationship between independent variables—special education teachers’ emotional/interpersonal stressors, personality type, and worklife variables—and special education teachers’ burnout. Burnout is as complex as it is destructive for the special education teachers, who are likely to cite burnout as a major factor contributing to their pre-retirement departure from education. Burnout consists of three factors: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization/cynicism, and decreased estimation of personal contribution to the work. Six-hundred and ninety-two (n = 692) of Minnesota’s Tier Four licensed special education teachers participated in the study by completing a survey related to their level of burnout in three areas (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and cynicism, and personal contribution to the work). The results suggest that the incendiary origin for burnout cannot be attributed to a single source: employee and organizational fit in the areas of values, fairness, workload, and reward all heighten the potential for an increase in employee burnout. Similarly, special education teachers who can be described as neurotic/low emotional stability and agreeable are more likely to suffer from burnout than their extraverted peers. Finally, a negative relationship exists between the advancement of job tenure and age and burnout

Restorative Justice in Schools - The Impact and Implementation

    No full text
Are restorative practices producing fewer negative outcomes for students and improving relationships within schools? The following literature review and application looked at the effectiveness of restorative practices in schools. The evidence showed that restorative practices are an effective way to decrease the number of negative behavior outcomes for students. Intentional relationship work was defined as a major theme in the effective implementation of restorative practices. The literature described the main themes that were imperative in implementing effective restorative practices in schools. The gathered evidence led to the application which defines a specific way to enhance the restorative practices within a school. Despite the many challenges that exist in implementing a restorative system into a school, the evidence suggests that students and staff alike will greatly benefit when using restorative practices to address negative school behaviors

Evaluating Effective Teaching Strategies and Student Attributes that Lead to Better Learner Outcomes in the Online Classroom

    No full text
Online teaching and learning continue to grow in the post-pandemic educational world. The purpose of this thesis was to identify effective teaching strategies and student attributes that promote positive learner outcomes in the online environment. Based on the literature review of 30 research studies, evidence supports the following effective teaching strategies: (1) get students to engage with content, (2) give feedback, (3) get students working together, and (4) build students’ self-efficacy. Teacher implementation of these methods increases student engagement and improves learner outcomes. Research also supports the following student attributes that contribute to positive, online, academic achievement: (1) motivation, (2) self-direction, (3) self-efficacy, and (4) supports. Prudent educators will consider these factors when enrolling online students to ensure success. Students will be best served by teachers who continue to define and apply best practices, incorporating effective teaching strategies for the online setting. The majority of the studies reviewed were focused on K-12 students; however, due to the lack of pertinent research available, some studies included students at the post-secondary level. Further studies in this area are needed to fill gaps in the current research and to keep pace with this ever-changing mode of learning so that online learning continues to be an avenue for a quality education

Use of Best Practices in Exam Item Creation, Analysis, and Revision: Nursing Faculty’s Knowledge, Use, and Implementation Barriers and Facilitators

    No full text
The ultimate goal of nursing education is to prepare graduates to provide excellent, safe patient care. The implementation of exam item best practices can significantly contribute to this process. This study examined nursing faculty’s use of best practices for exam item creation, analysis, and revision and best practice barriers and facilitators. Through a quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive correlational research study, the research demonstrated that faculty inconsistently use exam item best practices. Faculty research participants identified ways to enhance the use of best practices and suggestions to nursing leadership were developed based on the data. With faculty development and an outlined support system in place, faculty will be more equipped to implement exam item best practices and contribute to the goal of well-prepared graduates
