The Textual Transmission of the New Testament: Manuscripts, Variants, and Authority

    No full text
The Textual Transmission of the New Testament: Manuscripts, Variants, and Authority\u27 offers nuanced discussions of many topics that currently occupy the field of textual criticism, including debates over the dating of New Testament papyri, the preference for the codex, the liturgical use of texts, the presence of nomina sacra, textual variants, the establishment of the New Testament text, problems with the term original, and the challenge of textual fluidity. The work\u27s unique approach illustrates how a Catholic perspective, the rule of faith, and the Latin textual tradition can inform our understanding of the origin, preservation, and authority of the New Testament text. The work contributes a distinctively Catholic voice to the largely Protestant chorus that has dominated the field, thus filling a lacuna in contemporary text-critical conversations. Structure-Activity Relationship of 1,4-Disubstituted Tetrazoles on Benzene and Biphenyl Systems: Synthesis, Antiproliferative Evaluation, and Molecular Docking Studies

    No full text
Tetrazole compounds, known for their nitrogen-rich heterocyclic structure, have demonstrated significant potential in medicinal chemistry, particularly as bioisosteres for carboxylate groups and as anticancer agents. This study explores the structure-activity relationship (SAR) of 1,4-disubstituted tetrazoles on benzene and biphenyl scaffolds, with an emphasis on steric bulk to enhance target binding and biological activity. The synthesized tetrazole derivatives were evaluated for their antiproliferative properties against cancer cell lines, providing insight into their therapeutic potential. Additionally, molecular docking studies were conducted to assess their ability to interact with key molecular targets, with a focus on active site blockage via steric hindrance. The integration of synthetic methodologies, biological screening, and computational modeling in this study contributes to the ongoing development of tetrazole-based chemotherapeutic agents

“Studying the anti-inflammatory effects of the Hericium erinaceus mushroom on the cognitive and mental health of undergraduate students”

    No full text
A recent American College Health Association study conducted on university students revealed that 75% of all respondents experienced high stress levels in school, and 35% felt that this stress negatively impacted their academic performance. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many university students are experiencing an increase in anxiety and depression along with a decrease in cognitive health. Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane) is an edible mushroom used in traditional Chinese medicine as its composition includes beneficial polysaccharides, proteins, lectins, phenols, and terpenoids. This mushroom has been demonstrated to increase nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis and decrease inflammation in mice and in some initial human trials. It has also been shown to reduce depression and anxiety in both teenagers and adults. In our study, the Lion’s Mane mushroom will be used in supplement form to determine if it could decrease inflammation and improve cognitive function in undergraduate students from a private liberal arts university. Participants will have their blood drawn before and after a 30-day period of taking the supplement, and inflammatory activity will be assessed by quantification of plasma IL-1β levels and of the activation marker CD69 on the surface of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PMBCs). To determine neural benefits of the supplement, plasma NGF will be measured. Participants will also undergo the Stroop test, a measure of cognitive function, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) test, a self-reporting depression scale. Further, we plan to assess the ability of Lion’s Mane extract to decrease secretion of IL-1β from lipopolysaccharide-induced THP-1 cells in culture

The Women of Bethel: A History

    No full text
The Women of Bethel is a multifaceted history project that places women at the center of Bethel\u27s story, drawing on resources from Bethel\u27s archives and digital library — plus newly preserved recollections. It includes a digital project that currently consists of a research blog and multimedia timelines and eventually will include narrative essays, plus an oral history project (36 interviews with pioneering administrators, faculty, staff, and trustees) and a Women\u27s History Month Devotional being published daily this March

Evaluation of Unique Care Coordination and Transition Management Clinical Module

    No full text
A two-year curriculum evaluation was undertaken to guide development of a unique clinical curricular module focused on care coordination and transition management. The module, in place in the junior curriculum since 2015, had been modified through the years in response to changes in faculty, clinical partners, and department resources. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly limited student field experiences, requiring development of existing and new on-campus simulated learning experiences. Three analytic processes were used to evaluate how teaching methods and resource utilization contributed to student achievement of learning outcomes. The results led faculty to reinitiate field experiences in home care and hospice settings and to schedule guest speakers to better prepare students for meeting the needs of patients living with chronic and complex health problems in the community

Why I Stay: A Qualitative Appreciative Inquiry Study Exploring Teacher Longevity in an Urban Educational Settings

    No full text
Teacher shortages have become a critical issue across various educational settings, with urban schools experiencing disproportionate levels of teacher attrition (Lamboy, 2023; Wiggan et al., 2021). This study investigated the philosophical and pedagogical perspectives of teachers who demonstrated longevity in urban educational settings. The research focused on the following question: how do teachers who sustain long-term careers in urban schools approach their work? Sub-questions explored the relationship between teacher beliefs, preparation, and perspectives in fostering job satisfaction and career commitment in these settings. The study employed a qualitative approach that included semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis to explore the lived experiences of teachers with 5 years of service or more in one urban educational setting. An appreciative inquiry framework guided the research methodology. A critical conclusion was that teachers who demonstrated longevity adhered to the well-founded belief that their work would make a positive difference in the lives of their students. Participants demonstrated care for student well-being, passion for their content area and innovative pedagogy, the desire to create a supportive learning environment, and personal qualities attuned to urban educational settings

Investigating the Relationship of Feminization of Education and Teacher Attrition

    No full text
The feminization of teaching has taken place over multiple centuries, born of a mixture of social-political movements which reveal current complex issues leading to a shortage of young women entering and staying in education careers. Through a review of literature and study on the subjects of educational feminization, teacher attrition, and female workplace concerns and preferences, this thesis assessed the correlations between current teacher shortages and female-based causes and solutions. By assessing these reasons, studying the working habits of women, and evaluating teachers’ reported concerns and reasons for leaving the classroom, this literature review identified important causational effects directly related to women and their satisfaction working in the classroom

On behalf of the Coeval editing team, we proudly present the 2025 issue of Bethel University’s Coeval Literary magazine. As you read through this journal, you will find poetry, prose, fiction, and visual art about the beauties and hardships of life. Together, Bethel University students and faculty contributed to make this magazine happen. We loved reading each submission and viewing every art piece. More than anything, we look forward to what students will continue to create! Thank you for reading. Incorporating and Aligning an NGSS Phenomena-Based Approach in Science and the Impacts on Student Learning

    No full text
The Next Generation Science Standards represent a significant shift in how science has traditionally been taught. They incorporate the three dimensions of disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts. The Next Generation Science Standards continue to shift the science classroom from a teacher-centered to a student-centered approach, giving students more choice over their learning. Adopting this approach can also be more inclusive and support all students by allowing them to bring their experiences into the classroom. A phenomena-based approach supports this by putting students in charge of investigating, which can foster student agency through their learning. However, this shift also presents challenges for teachers in terms of time, materials, and ongoing professional development related to the standards
