The New Evangelicals: How Donald Trump Revealed the Changing Christian Conservative base
No full textI analyze how Donald Trump, who many see as an uncertain standard bearer of Christian values, given his colored personal life and various tortured exchanges on the Bible, became the champion of Christian conservatives. Using Pew data from a January 27th, 2016 survey, I analyze how the Republican presidential candidate went from the lowest rankings of religious association just 10 months prior, to winning the highest white evangelical support since George W. Bush in 2004. More research will be conducted on how the specific group known as evangelical voters has changed, as well as what other variables such as economic, gender equality, and international policy played within the demographic that assisted in voting for president elect Donald Trump. This project will contribute to understanding the results of the 2016 presidential campaign, and specifically the behavior of the white evangelical vote. Although Donald Trump did not show significance in numerous religious variables, control variables such as Republican identity were a strong indicator for supporting Trump as a potentially great president upon his election. By analyzing changing and complex evangelical voting trends, along with the changing influence of religion on American society, I believe Donald Trump’s election win revealed a major section of the U.S. electorate’s true message: to be represented regardless of a candidate’s personal background in an increasingly secular American society

As a music major, I am required to complete a degree recital on my primary instrument. As an honor\u27s student, I am required to complete a thesis of my choice. Since both of these tasks are large projects to complete before graduation, I decided to combine the two. Combining the projects allowed me to created a recital that had more organization and thought put into it, and allowed me to work on a thesis that included more than a long paper. I liked the idea of linking the Honors Program with the music program because that has not occurred often at Bemidji State University
Estimating Seasonal Variation in Condition of Yellow Perch
No full textResearch has shown that Yellow Perch Perca flavescens, found throughout lakes and streams of North America, are good indicators of environmental health. Due to the correlation between fish condition and ecosystem health it is essential to reliably estimate condition to better manage our fisheries. Therefore, the study objectives were to measure the seasonal changes in adult Yellow Perch percent dry weight (PDW), and compare the reliability of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and morphometric-based estimates of condition. The seasonal fluctuations in average monthly PDW were measured over a two- year period and were sinusoidal in shape with peaks in August 2015 (25.44 %) and July 2016 (26.34 %) when water temperatures were above 22 C. The valleys occurred in February 2015 (22.73 %) and April 2016 (22.96 %) when temperatures were below 5 C. When the best supported BIA lab model was used to estimate condition of Yellow Perch in the lab it explained 18 % more of the variation in PDW (R2 = 0.60; RMSE = 0.92) when compared to morphometric-based models (R2 = 0.42; RMSE = 1.09). BIA and morphometric-based models were unable to reliably estimate condition of Yellow Perch measured in the field (R2 ≤ 0.18). The sources of error associated with standard fish condition estimates need to be identified and methods improved if we are to successfully manage our local and global fisheries
