Yield and composition of milk in goats fed Pornunça hay and cactus pear
No full textThe study aimed to assess the impact of diets containing Pornunça hay (Manihot sp) and
fresh cactus pear (Opuntia ficus-indica Mill) on the intake, digestibility, ingestive
behavior, production, and quality of milk, as well as the economic feasibility of lactating
goats. Eight multiparous goats with 30 lactation days were used and distributed in a
double Latin square design (4 x 4). The treatments consisted of different proportions of
Pornunça hay and fresh cactus pear (60:0; 50:10; 40:20; 30:30) in the diet of lactating
goats. Incorporating cactus pear into the diet of lactating goats resulted in a significant
decrease in water intake and intake of most evaluated nutrients, directly reflected in the
diet effectively consumed by the animals. However, it did not affect milk or fat-corrected
milk production. Incorporating cactus pear into the diet of lactating goats resulted in a
significant decrease in production costs, water intake, and the intake of most evaluated
nutrients. The 30:30 ratio of Pornunça hay and fresh cactus pear in the diet of lactating
goats improved the milk production efficiency maintaining a good composition of solids
and improved gross profit and benefit/cost ratio
From Great Deeds to Time Sequence as the Source of the Meaning of History: Christianity, the Enlightenment, and Marx’s Alternative Modernity
No full textThis essay argues that linear time is not inherently colonialistic; rather, its politics emerge from its interactions with the power structures of its era. I explore the progressive roles of linear time in Christianity, the Enlightenment, and Marxism within key _historical_ contexts, highlighting also the diversity of linear temporalities. This diversity enabled Marx to position his “Revolution" against both Christian and Enlightenment temporalities while drawing from them. Key points include: • All three linear temporalities challenged social hierarchies—for instance, by redefining human identity on their future potential rather than birth origin. • The Enlightenment’s homogeneous time was countered by Christianity on original sin and Marx on capitalism. Christianity maintained grace as humanity’s only salvation from cycles of “vanities"; Marx advocated for proletariat revolution to break capitalist alienation’s vicious cycles. Building on the (dis-)continuities among these temporalities, I show how Marx initiated an alternative modernity, radically heterogenizing (the temporality of) modernity before post-structuralism. Christianity emphasized grace as humanity’s salvation from cyclical time, while Marx advocated for proletariat revolution to escape the cycles of alienation. I illustrate the (dis-)continuities among these temporalities to show how Marx initiated an alternative modernity, significantly contributing to the heterogenization of modernity before post-structuralism

Automated Competition Refereeing with Fuzzy C-Means Clustering
No full textWith the increasing reliance on technology-based sports officiating, ensuring accuracy and fairness in
decision-making is critical. Traditional video refereeing methods often suffer from human subjectivity and limitations
in object detection. This paper presents an automated refereeing system utilizing Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering to
segment images from sports videos. The proposed system effectively identifies players, ball positions, and boundary
lines, thereby enabling more accurate and consistent decisions. By integrating FCM-based segmentation, the system
significantly enhances object detection precision, reduces human error, and improves the reliability of referee
judgments. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach substantially improves officiating accuracy in
dynamic sports environments. The key innovation of this research lies in applying FCM clustering for real-time
competition analysis, thereby increasing the efficiency and adaptability of automated refereeing systems across various
sport

No full textIn “International Recognition of Palestine and the Risk of a West Bank ‘Frontier’” (published in the Europe-based online journal, "E-International Relations" in October 2025), sociologist and political scientist James Ron warns that recent diplomatic recognition of a Palestinian state—by more than 150 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Portugal, and the United Kingdom—could, under specific scenarios, unintentionally heighten the danger of large-scale violence in the West Bank.
Drawing on his comparative research on state violence in Serbia and Israel (Frontiers and Ghettos, University of California Press, 2003), Ron argues that when states lose uncontested control over adjacent territories without the protection of robust international peacekeeping forces, they may transform those newly independent regions into lawless frontiers characterized by ethnic cleansing and unrestrained force.
The essay cautions that if the West Bank were legally detached from Israel without durable international security guarantees, it could mirror Gaza’s tragic trajectory—an area externalized from Israel’s legal and moral responsibility and subjected to frontier-style warfare.
Using cases from Bosnia, the Sandžak, Lebanon, and Gaza, Ron demonstrates how sovereignty, geography, and legal jurisdiction shape the intensity of violence.
This analysis speaks to scholars and policymakers concerned with international law, state sovereignty, human-rights protection, and conflict prevention. It underscores a central lesson from comparative political violence: recognition without protection can turn liberation into catastrophe
