With the consistent patronage of the Journal of Human Kinetics and Health Education (JOKHED) by various researchers and the reading pubic, we are compelled to publish this latest edition of the journal (Vol, 2 No 1, 2019).
The Editorial Board deployed appropriate logistics to screen and select articles with high quality in conformity with the international standard of JOKHED.
This edition ascertains the publication of articles from diverse segments of human movement phenomena and health education pedagogy. We shall not relent in our avowed commitment to always put the journal in academic domain at least two times a year.
My profound appreciation goes to the members of the Editorial Board for their individual participation, and especially, the Managing Editor, in the successful publishing of this edition of the journal.

EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists: Innovative Capability and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Performance in Selected Local Government Areas in Ogun State, Nigeria
No full textSmall and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) contribute to every nation’s success by boosting government revenue and enhance economic growth. Regrettably, the success of their operations in Nigeria is affected due to their failure to innovate. As a result, the study empirically investigate the effect of innovative capabilities on SMEs performance in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. The target population comprised SME owners operating in Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas. Power analysis was used to determine the sample size of 365 respondents chosen using a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were obtained using copies of a validated questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM). The study’s findings revealed that process, product, marketing, and organizational innovation showed a significant positive effect on SMEs’ performance in the selected local government areas of Ogun State, Nigeria. The findings implication is that the study cannot generalize the outcome of this study across all other local government in Ogun State. The study concludes that innovative capability influences SMEs\u27 performance in selected local government areas in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study recommend that SME owners ensure that innovation is regarded as a top-most priority, i.e., an essential motivation for their business succes
EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists: Capital Structure of Listed Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria and Its Impact on Earning Management
No full textAn organization\u27s decision about how to finance its operations is one of its most crucial decisions. Consequently, management tries to design the company\u27s capital structure in a way that satisfies stakeholder expectations. Determining if capital structure (CS) of Nigerian listed manufacturing companies has an impact on earnings management (EM) was the primary objective of the research. Purposive sampling was used to choose a sample of forty publicly traded manufacturing firms at the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX). Thirteen years of data collection from the sample\u27s participating firms took place between 2010 and the end of 2022. The findings indicated that the accrual earning management (AEM) using the EM proxy was adversely affected by the CS (short-term debt ratio, debt/equity ratio, and equity ratio). Also, it was revealed that the EM of Nigerian-listed manufacturing companies are benefited by the long-term debt ratio. It was therefore suggested that company management should avoid EM practices so that firms can have a favorable standing in the minds of current and prospective investors. In addition, the Nigerian Exchange Group should strengthen oversight of the accounting records presented by companies to minimize earnings management practices
EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists: Therapeutic Rhythm: Dance Therapy, Work-Life Balance and Job Satisfaction of Academics at Lagos State University
No full textThis study investigated the effect of dance therapy on work-life balance and job satisfaction of academics at Lagos State University. Using the descriptive survey research design, data were collected from 528 academic staff through the questionnaire. Two hypotheses were stated and tested using the linear regression statistical technique with the aid of SPSS version 26. Also, a research question was stated and answered through written responses on the administered questionnaires. Results of hypothesis one revealed a statistically significant influence of dance therapy on the work-life balance of academics, with an R2 value of .565, and hypothesis two showed a statistically significant influence of dance therapy on the job satisfaction of academics, with an R2 of .675. Also, the research question was answered by remarking that academics at Lagos State University view dance therapy positively as a beneficial tool for enhancing mental well-being. The study concluded by noting that dance therapy is not only a method for stress relief and emotional regulation but also a catalyst for enhancing job satisfaction and overall quality of life. Therefore, it was recommended amongst others that institutions, especially those in the academic sector consider incorporating dance therapy into their wellness and employee assistance programs
EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists: Risk Identification Techniques and Project Success: Evidence from Building Construction Companies in Lagos State, Nigeria
No full textBoosting project risk identification, as evidence for productive instrument, can assist the sustenance of project success to cushion builders’ income, and ensure adequate property safety in Lagos State Nigeria. This study examined the relationship between risk identification techniques and project success, with empirical evidence drawn from building construction companies in Lagos State. The study employed a cross-sectional survey design cum double sampling technique; comprising judgmental and convenience. The study employed a structured questionnaire to gather data from a sample of 147 participants. Descriptive statistic, Friedman’s rank test and simple regression techniques were adopted in the data analysis. The study revealed the rank-order analysis of risk identification techniques and project success criteria. Further results also displayed the positive relationship between risk identification techniques and project success criteria of selected building construction companies in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study recommended that government agency, saddled with building control in Lagos State, should ensure physical inspection is carried out on public buildings (either completely or under construction) in order to compel builders for proper risk identification. Having carried out physical inspection, it is important for builders to be enlightened on builders ‘liability insurance (being a compulsory insurance product) and thus, ensure that buildings under construction are covered by contractors’ all-risk insurance policy
EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists: The Impact of Capital Market on the Economic Growth of Nigeria
No full textThe study assessed how the capital market affected Nigeria\u27s economic growth. Specifically, the impact of the Nigeria stock exchange\u27s market capitalization and volume of trade on Nigeria\u27s economic development was evaluated. Time-series data covering 2010–2023 was obtained in the study. Estimation methods used in the study’s analysis include descriptive statistics correlation analysis, ARDL co-integration analysis, parsimonious error correction model, variance decomposition and other post-estimation tests. Discoveries from the study showed that MCAP positively impacts economic growth in the long and short run. The MACP affects economic growth positively and insignificantly in the long and short runs, and the VOT exerts a significant positive effect on the economic growth of Nigeria. Hence, the study recommended that the Security and Exchange Commission should explore measures, including technological integration in trading activities, to deepen development in the capital market

EKSU Journal of the Management Scientists (ejms), is a bi-annual journal and one of the official journals of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria. The journal is published both in hard and soft copies. As a university-based journal, it is also a double blind peer reviewed journal that publishes theoretical, empirical and experimental papers that contribute significantly to the disciplines of Management Sciences and Economics. These we achieve by using a wide range of research methods including statistical analysis, analytical work, case studies, field research, literature surveys and historical analysis. Articles examining significant research questions from a broad range in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, Insurance, Education and other related fields are encouraged to be sent.
All papers are subjected to peer-review by members of the editorial board or other senior academics by the use of double blind peer review system. If accepted, the papers will be published in the issue of the current volume. JOURNAL OF RESEARCH IN SCIENCE EDUCATION (JORISE): Influence Of Plant Classification Knowledge on the Entrepreneurial Orientation of Senior Secondary School Students In Kogi State, Nigeria
No full textSocio-economic challenges such as unemployment and poverty highlight the need to integrate entrepreneurship into secondary school curricula. This study investigated the influence of plant classification knowledge on the entrepreneurial orientation of senior secondary school students in Kogi State, Nigeria. A mixed-method research design was employed, involving 712 students and 14 Biology teachers selected through a multi-stage sampling procedure. Data were collected using the Questionnaire on Plant Classification and Entrepreneurial Orientation (QPCEO) and the Teacher Informant Interview Guide (TIGPCEO) with reliability coefficients of 0.81 and 0.64, respectively. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal–Wallis, and Ordinal Logistic Regression analyses were used at a 0.05 significance level to analyse the data obtained. Results revealed that plant classification knowledge significantly influenced students’ entrepreneurial orientation (χ² = 27.59, p < 0.05; β = 0.473, p < 0.05), with 60.9% of proficient students demonstrating higher entrepreneurial tendencies. Qualitative findings confirmed that hands-on taxonomy activities enhanced students’ agripreneurial interests. The study concludes that plant classification fosters innovation, self-reliance, and economic empowerment among students. It recommends integrating entrepreneurship-based projects, teacher training, and school–community collaborations to strengthen the practical and economic relevance of plant classification in secondary education
