Autonomous cars, development of modern transport technology
No full textThe article presents selected issues from the conducted research and analyzes in the field of the development of autonomous vehicles, carried out under the project: Polish road to Automation of Road Transport. The development of autonomous cars is a global challenge for the automotive industry. The creation of a fully autonomous vehicle capable of transporting passengers and goods without the participation of a driver has become a priority goal of automotive concerns. The huge costs incurred by automotive concerns for the development of autonomous vehicles prove the progressing automotive revolution, which will have a significant impact on the shape of future transport systems, transport based on autonomous transport. Very often in the literature there are overly optimistic forecasts for the development of autonomous vehicles, as well as overestimating the benefits they are to bring, without pointing to the costs and problems of their implementation and functioning in the real transport system. The publication presents forecasts for the development of autonomous vehicles as well as the related risks and advantages of their implementation. The factors that have a significant impact on the development of these vehicles are also outlined
The concept of the agro cargo supply chain model using inland navigation
No full textMaking transport sentences requires taking into account many external and internal factors dependent on changes taking place on the shipping market. The place, time and type of transported cargo, etc., have an impact on the complexity of the transport system structure, which is why it is important to explore the possibilities and create transport optimization models throughout the entire cargo supply chain and analyze issues related to their organization, which affects the safety and reliability of this type of systems. The aim of the article is to present and analyze the concept of the agro cargo supply chain model using inland navigation, in the relations between Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany on the example of the Capital Group OT Logistics S.A. (OTL SA Capital Group). Taking into account the complexity and structure of transport tasks, it is important to look for optimal solutions in the field of transport. Each supply chain model includes only certain selected factors that have a limited impact on the volatility of the transport. It is not possible to build a model that would fully recreate the behavior of the object, with all possible external influences. The article considers the optimization model of inland wheat transport to final consumers, which predicts a constant demand for cereal loads in certain time segments. This model does not provide any rapid domestic fluctuations in demand for wheat at certain time intervals
Evaluating logistic systems of building materials supply
No full textThere are many logistical tasks in the field of supplying construction materials, as well as financial and information flows in construction projects. All logistical processes related to the flow of resources, physical, informational, and financial, occurring between the different elements of the company\u27s structure make up its logistical system. One of the many decisions made during the planning of a construction project is the choice of how to control the logistics system of supply. It is impossible to indicate a universal system that will optimally meet the needs of many construction projects due to the individual nature of each project. Properly selected type of logistic service and structure of logistic system allow one to reduce risk in supply chain management. This paper proposes a multi-criteria analysis to evaluate the models of the logistic system of supply in the execution of a construction project. The Analytic Hierarchy Process AHP was used for the comparative evaluation, allowing multi-criteria pairwise comparisons of the various systems. The proposed approach allows to indicate the structure of the logistic system, ensuring continuity of construction output and also reduction of logistic costs
The impact of policy response to Covid-19 on the transportation and storage sector in Visegrad Countries (V4)
No full textThe paper is devoted to analysing national policy responses to the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Visegrad countries (Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia) - on both the macroeconomic and microeconomic level. Focus is given to the transportation and storage sector (NACE Rev. 2 code H). The pandemic unevenly impacted this sector: while specific subsectors were thriving during this period (e.g. parcel delivery services), others were suffering due to abrupt mobility changes (e.g. public & individual mobility services). Public policies were presented not only as a tool to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic but also to provide a platform to build new competitive advantages for national business entities, thus providing the rationale for an analysis of the actual impact of programs aimed at the transportation and storage sector. The impact of the state-aid focusing on the analysed was uneven between the analysed countries. Even though, the deployed programs have helped the industry to return to pre-pandemic levels within 4 quarters. This proves that apart from the structure of state-aid programs and schemes, an important factor was the pre-pandemic value chains. This could serve as a starting point for further research as more data become available
Parametric analysis of pilot voice signals in Parkinson?s disease diagnostics
No full textParkinson\u27s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS) characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The article describes an analysis of pilot voice signal analysis in Parkinson\u27s disease diagnostics. Frequency domain signal analysis was mainly used to assess the state of a patient\u27s voice apparatus in order to support PD diagnostics. The recordings covered uttering the ?a? sound at least twice with extended phonation. The research utilized real recordings acquired in the Department of Neurology at the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland. Spectral speech signal coefficients may be determined based on different defined frequency scales. The authors used four frequency scales: linear, Mel, Bark and ERB . Spectral descriptors have been defined for each scales which are widely used in machine and deep learning applications, and perceptual analysis. The usefulness of extracted features was assessed taking various methods into account. The discriminatory ability of individual coefficients was evaluated using the Fisher coefficient and LDA technique.. The results of numerical experiments have shown different efficiencies of the proposed descriptors using different frequencies scales

No full textThe aim of the article was to measure the level of effectiveness of Management Control using a survey method among employees of educational institutions in selected aspects of management practice. The article discusses the basics of the Management Control System in the context of considering its effectiveness in shaping the quality of educational services. The basic understanding of Management Control in the public sector was presented and similarities and inspirations from management methods used in business practice were analysed. The next part of the article presents the results of research among employees of educational institutions in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. Conclusions from the research results concerned the perspective of the effectiveness of the Management Control System in public educational institutions. The final conclusions discuss the weaknesses of Management Control and development elements constituting the basis for improving both the organizational aspects of educational institutions, as well as the level of human resources management

Actual rate of the management fee in mutual funds of different styles
No full textResearch background: Exponential growth of passive mutual funds after 2007?2008 global financial crisis put pressure on active fund managers to lower the management fees. The real costs of active fund management are, however, very often higher than the values of management fees reported publicly. Thus it is not easy to decide on the quality of the fund management and estimate the level of management charges optimal for the future fund performance.
Purpose of the article: In this study, we propose to utilize an actual rate of the management fee (ARMF) disclosed in the management company financial statements as a measure of the real value of the management costs and investigate its determinants in mutual funds of different styles.
Methods: Using a dataset of 21,618 monthly observations for 500 mutual funds from a market of diversified structure and high management fees charged we test the operating model of a mutual fund performance, and derive the formula of a before-fee return with the ARMF as its component. The fund performance is measured by a raw before-fee return and two types of risk-adjusted alphas based on the multifactor model of Carhart (1997) and the fund attributes. Later, using panel data we explain ARMF by mutual fund performance and attributes. We also compare the results to the ones obtained for the total operational cost (TOC) ? a value similar to ARMF that is disclosed in mutual fund financial reports.
Findings & value added: We find that the proposed ARMF is related more to the size and not to the performance, age or a cash flow of mutual funds. We observe it among all studied fund styles. The largest deviations of the average ARMF are seen in the management companies that belong to the banks? capital groups. The proposed measure of the management fee included in the operating model of a mutual fund performance can be used for any local mutual fund worldwide, and compared with other fund markets of more or less diversified style structures
