Academic perspectives of the teaching-research nexus in initial teacher education in Portugal
ABSTRACTFor future teachers to be researchers of their teaching practice, and to improve it, it is important to enhance a strong relationship between teaching and research during their education. Based on this idea, a study was carried out with the aim of widening the debate about the teaching-research connection in higher education or, as it is called by some authors, the teaching-research nexus. The research study answers the following questions: What positions justify the importance of the teaching-research relationship in initial teacher education? What is the manner of this relationship in initial teacher education? What difficulties and possibilities are there for conducting teaching with research? Methodologically, an email internet interview with three open-ended questions was used to collect the opinions of professors who provide initial teacher education. The interview protocol was submitted to critical validation using the “jury agreement” technique and was answered by 56 professors of 13 higher education institutions from the 24 that provide initial teacher education in Portugal. The professors were informed that the overall data and institution names to which they belong would be anonymized. The answers given were submitted to content analysis supported by Healey’s (2005) typology of the teaching-research nexus: research-led teaching; research-oriented teaching; research-tutored; research-based teaching. This analysis allows the conclusion that, when referring to the teaching-research relationship, the professors present concepts related to the four dimensions spelled out by Healey, although a research-oriented approach was favoured. Institutional and educational policy reasons were pointed out as the greatest difficulties in achieving teaching with research, even though also possibilities were identified to lead this change. This situation opens perspectives for initial teacher education to prepare future teachers to guide their curricular practices supported by research. To this end, it is important to invest in institutional cultures and in the working conditions of higher education professors.- EDULOG – Fundação Belmiro de Azevedo [proyecto EDULOG/PAPP/2019. - CIIE, proyectos UIDB/00167/2020 y UIDP/00167/2020A11D-C969-8086 | Maria de Fátima de Sousa PereiraN/
Effect of motor competence and health-related fitness in the prevention of metabolic syndrome risk factors
Purpose: In the last decades we have seen an increase in sedentary behaviors and a decrease in physical activity in children when compared to past generations. This lifestyle is commonly associated with the development of clustering risk factors that define metabolic syndrome (MetS). Knowing that motor competence (MC) development can influence lifelong physical activity habits, it is reasonable to assume that children’s MC will directly link to clustered cardiometabolic health outcomes. The aim of this study was to analyze the role of MC in MetS risk factors. Methods: Seventy children with a mean age of 7.49 (SD = 1.28) years were evaluated on motor competence (MCA—Motor Competence Assessment instrument), cardiovascular fitness (PACER test), upper body strength (UBS; handgrip), and the components of MetS, hypertriglyceridemia, hypertension, abdominal obesity, low concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high fasting blood glucose. The composite value of MetS was calculated according to Burns et al. (2017). Multiple standard regressions were performed to explore the effect of different variables on MetS. Motor competence and health-related fitness (cardiovascular fitness and relative upper body strength) were used as independent variables (predictors) and MetS as dependent variable.
Results: Overall, the results showed that motor competence (β = −.072; p < .05) is a significant predictor
and this model explained 7,1% of the variance in MetS. Conclusion: Although more studies are needed,
our results indicate that MC seems to have a positive role in children’s health markers.4811-99FE-2ECD | Luis Paulo RodriguesN/
Corncob as carbon source in the production of xanthan gum in different strains Xanthomonas sp.
Xanthan gum (XG) is a biopolymer obtained in fermentation and used as a rheology control agent in aqueous systems and in stabilizing emulsions and suspensions. XG, together with other polysaccharides, can form soft, cohesive composite gels. The carbon source in the fermentative process is responsible for one-third of the production costs, and the search for less expensive and sustainable alternatives is ongoing. The use of agricultural residues such as the corncob is highly suggestive due to their abundance. This study aims to evaluate the use of derived hemicellulose fractions from the alkaline extraction of corncob as a carbon source in the production of XG in trials using four strains of Xanthomonas sp. (629, 1078, 254, and S6). The results indicate that strain 629 provides the higher yield (8.37 ± 5.75 g L−1) while using a fermentation medium containing a carbon source of saccharose (1.25%), hemicellulose fractions (3.75%), and salts. In this same medium, the strain 629 produces gum in 3% aqueous solution, showing the higher apparent viscosity (9298 ± 31 mPa s−1) at a shear rate of 10 s−1 at 25 °C. In conclusion, corncob is proven to be a promising sustainable alternative carbon source in the obtention of XG, improving the economic viability of the process within a biorefinery context. Saccharose must, however, also be included in the fermentation medium.0F1A-358B-43B5 | Fernando Jorge Ribeiro da MataN/
clientes no mercado Pet português.
importância do Word of Mouse (WOM) digital, demonstrando que as redes
sociais são fontes de informações sobre produtos e serviços no mercado Pet.The internet and social networks have revolutionized communication, production
and consumption of content, bringing companies and customers closer together,
generating greater visibility and proximity. In the current context, digital marketing
and the strategic use of social networks are essential for business visibility and
success.
This scenario also occurs in the Pet market in Portugal. With the aim of
understanding how social networks influence consumers' purchase decisions, we
developed a descriptive and quantitative research, with the collection of data,
through an online questionnaire, which understands how social networks
influence consumers' purchasing decisions. in the Portuguese Pet market.
The analysis identified that social networks exert a strong influence on purchase
choices in the pet market, with more than half of the participants conducting
research on these platforms before purchasing products or services. The
indication of family and friends, as well as the experiences shared by other
consumers on social networks, were relevant aspects in the decision process.
Trust in the experiences shared by other users guarantees the importance of the
digital Word of Mouse (WOM), demonstrating that social networks are sources of
information about products and services in the Pet market
Patterns in the city: a mathematics project
One aspect of mathematics education, in this century, is the lack of scientific culture and cu-
riosity of young people as well as the low mathematics knowledge of students. These students’
low mathematics skills translate into lack of motivation for learning this subject, traditionally
identified as a hard task. It is our belief that it is important to show the invisible face of mathe-
matics around us to get students and teachers more motivated. In this presentation we introduce
an overview of this project whose first goal is to promote the mathematics culture of elementary
pre-service teachers and students through the observation and exploration of the urban environ-
ment while designing mathematics materials for elementary education. We will present the de-
scription of some of the tasks, in particular those connected with patternsThis project, MatCid, refª CV/33‐2006, was supported by Ciência Viva Agency0D1E-4824-1244 | Ana Cristina Coelho BarbosaN/
European citizens stance on limiting energy use for climate change mitigation
Citizens’ attitudes and beliefs towards climate change are decisive in the adoption of mitigating measures. Limiting the use of energy in the context of climate change can be one of the mitigation measures, and therefore, understanding the position of the citizens towards it is important. With this aim, we used data from the 10th European Social Survey to relate the European citizens’ beliefs and attitudes on limiting the use of energy to tackle climate change. We have used variables related to demography and individuals’ perception of society and its policies. Statistical models were
successfully fitted to data. Individuals with higher levels of trust in scientists have a higher degree of satisfaction with the national economies, are more worried about climate change and are more capable of assuming self-responsibility in climate change mitigation. These individuals have higher probabilities of believing that climate change mitigation could be achieved by limiting the use of energy. The EU
citizens are, however, very skeptical in relation to the probability of many other citizens adopting measures to limit the use of energy.0F1A-358B-43B5 | Fernando Jorge Ribeiro da MataN/
Portraits and reports of /in the feminine: intermedial readings from Maria Teresa Horta and Yolanda Castaño
ABSTRACT: From an Iberian perspective, a Galician-Portuguese one, more specifically, the aim of this essay is a dialogical reading of the poetry of women-poets of our century who propose a different view of the feminine and of feminine identity, putting into play a certain theology of femininity, alongside concepts that explicitly call for the representation of the body: Anunciações [Annunciations] (2016), by the Portuguese writer Maria Teresa Horta, a novel in verse that rewrites “with all the senses” the biblical encounter between the Virgin and the Angel; and O libro da egoísta [The Selfish Woman´s Book] (2003) by the young Galician poet Yolanda Castaño, a work that integrates literary and audiovisual codes and where the reflection on identity unfolds and multiplies, returning an image built between the most intimate self and the public perception of the writer.0913-438F-508F | DANIEL DOS SANTOS TAVARESinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Attitudes, perceptions, and trends of honey consumption in Portugal
The research aim was to evaluate the Portuguese honey consumers’ profile, their attitudes, perceptions, and
trends towards the product, production, and consumption, to allow the development of marketing strategies. With this purpose, a questionnaire was developed in accordance with the Ajzen’s Planned Behaviour
Theory and was then completed by 784 interviewees to retrieve quantitative and qualitative data. These
included demographic, consumption pattern, and behavioural pattern variables collected in a Likert scale.
Spearman correlations were performed between ordinal and continuous variables, and chi-squared tests of
independency applied to contingency tables between nominal variables. A positive correlation was found
between age and frequency of purchasing. Men consume honey more frequently than women. Portuguese
honey has a good reputation, and it is preferred in relation to imported honey. The Portuguese consumer is
not completely aware of the different floral characteristics of honey, other hive products, and positive
externalities associated with beekeeping. By filling the marketing gap identified, production and consumption of honey could be increased in Portugal. Marketing campaigns promoting the health benefits of
honey and other hive products, as well as the externalities of beekeeping may be advantageous.0F1A-358B-43B5 | Fernando Jorge Ribeiro da MataN/
Análise do Desempenho Logístico na Europa dos 27

countries of the European Union and demonstrated the relationship of these indicators with the
GDP per capita of each country, the HCI index, and the EUCham index
Effects of small-sided games training versus high-intensity interval training approaches in young basketball players
This study aimed to investigate the effects of the 6-week small-sided games training (SSGs) vs. high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the psychophysiological and performance responses, and technical skills of young basketball players. Thirty-two male players (age: 14.5 0.5 years of age) were randomly divided into SSGs group (n = 16) and HIIT group (n = 16) training methods thrice per week for 6 weeks. The players in the SSGs group performed two 5–8 min of 2 vs. 2 with 2 min rest periods, while the players in HIIT performed 12–18 min of runs at intensities (90 to 95%) related to the velocity obtained in the 30-15 intermittent fitness test (IFT). Pre-testing and post-testing sessions involved assessments of Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test level 1, 30-15 intermittent fitness test, 5 and 30 msprint times, vertical jump height, repeated sprint ability, defensive and offensive agility, and technical skills. The SSGs group demonstrated significantly higher agility-based technical responses in terms of the control dribbling and shooting skills (d = 1.71 vs. 0.20, d = 1.41 vs. 0.35, respectively)
compared with the HIIT group. Conversely, the HIIT induced greater improvements in 30 m sprint times (d = 3.15 vs. 0.68). These findings provided that SSGs in youth basketball players may allow similar positive physical adaptations to HIIT, with an extra advantage of improving technical skills while improving enjoyability.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/
