Curriculum policies in relation to initial teacher training policies in Portugal
ABSTRACT: Recognizing that initial teacher training courses must ensure conditions that prepare students/future teachers to be curriculum decision-makers, the article brings to reflection and debate discursive statements of curricular policies for primary and secondary education in Portugal, establishing relationships with policies and student perceptions regarding this training. The study answers the following questions: What teacher profile do the discursive statements of primary and secondary school curriculum policies point towards? Where do the discursive statements of policies for organizing initial teacher training curricula point? What perceptions do students/future teachers have of the training they are experiencing? And of their actions as curriculum decision-makers? Data was collected by analyzing political speeches and questionnaire surveys of final-year students with master's degrees that qualify them to teach. The results showed that the discursive statements of curricular policies point to teachers being agents of curricular decision-making and that training enables them to use the power of agency. In line with
academic discourses, a concept of education based on principles of social responsibility is enunciated. Despite this discursive orientation, initial teacher training favors didactic issues and offers few conditions for valuing aspects related to the social function of education. In this sense, the study makes it possible to question the existing conditions for broad socialization with the functions inherent in the teaching profession and for training in line with transformative education.A11D-C969-8086 | Maria de Fátima de Sousa Pereirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Factors influencing the level of trust in vaccines
The authors explore the degree of consumer trust regarding the various brands of Covid-19 vaccines made available by laboratories in Portugal. This chapter aims to fill a gap in the literature, since brands of COVID-19 vaccines have never been analysed from a brand trust perspective. The results show that the level of trust differs significantly between vaccine brands, with BioNtech - Pfizer, Moderna - National Institute of Health and Oxford -AstraZeneca inspiring the highest levels of trust among respondents. Other vaccine brands - Sanofi GSK, Janssen Pharmaceutica NV, and CureVac - showed lower levels of trust or respondents had no opinion whatsoever. Gender, age, family net monthly income, educational qualifications, and being a health professional were also found to influence the level of trust towards vaccine brands differently. The results may serve as strategic orientations for the pharmaceutical
industry brands, but they may also be the object of reflection for public organisms when making purchasing and implementation decisions in the country.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira Vieirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Cultural intermediation: cultural offer and cultural practices
With the desire to promote excellence in higher education in Portugal and develop the Alto Minho
region, the positive association that exists between art education in improving individual skills, and
increasing cultural participation and academic results and Viana do Castelo School of Higher Education
(VCHSE) was establihed. The determination of importance that the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do
Castelo [IPVC] has in the plan to comply with the cultural strategy of Europe 2020 initiatives was the
starting point for a group of teachers and researchers of to consider the weight of school capital and
cultural consumption, in relationship to the lack of correlation between increased cultural offerings
and increased cultural consumption. Through these investigations, VCHSE began to inquire into the
relevance of designing and implementing a program of cultural intermediation that could develop
students’ cultural practices through art education, improving the skills of professionals qualified by the
Institute.
The aim of this paper is to briefly present the VCHSE strategy to diagnosis the cultural practices of IPVC
students in order to design a pilot program, Cultural Intermediation in Higher Education in Viana do
Castelo, which will be implemented at the VCHSE.B416-43A6-419A | Adalgisa Castro Maia Pontesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
In silico validation of personalized safe intervals for carbohydrate counting errors
For patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), accurate carbohydrate counting (CC) is
essential for successful blood glucose regulation. Unfortunately, mistakes are common and may lead
to an incorrect dosage of prandial insulin. In this work, we aim to demonstrate that each person has
their own limits for CC errors, which can be computed using patient-specific data. To validate the
proposed method, we tested it using several scenarios to investigate the effect of different CC errors
on postprandial blood glucose. Virtual subjects from the T1DM Simulator were used in a clinical
trial involving 450 meals over 90 days, all following the same daily meal plan but with different
intervals for CC errors near, below, and above the limit computed for each patient. The results show
that CC errors within personalized limits led to acceptable postprandial glycemic fluctuations. In
contrast, experiments where 50% and 97.5% of the meals present a CC error outside the computed
safe interval revealed a pronounced degradation of the time in range. Given these results, we consider
the proposed method for obtaining personalized limits for CC errors an excellent starting point for
an initial assessment of patients’ capabilities in CC and to provide appropriate ongoing education.511F-603F-4B30 | Francisco MirandaN/

The study of fires has evolved not only in the development of firefighting strategies and
solutions for preventing fire risks, but also in mapping, from basic cartography to remote
detection with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which allowed view the
burned areas, the type of vegetation, the location of water points, among others. This
study aimed to evaluate the application of renewable sources in the redundancy of water
supply systems to combat rural fires in the municipality of Ponte de Lima. An analysis of
the municipality was carried out in ArcGis with data obtained from GeoCATALOGO,
such as burned areas, climate, water points, danger, among others. On the other hand, two
risk matrices were constructed comparing the traditional system with the sustainable
system. Therefore, supply systems from renewable sources were explained, including the
advantages and disadvantages. After suggesting the models for its application, which
were based on solar and wind energy sources, the pros and cons of each proposed model
were shown. With that, the viability and redundancy of sustainable systems were
determined, as well as their benefits on the environment for their application in fighting
fires
Concurrent-validity and reliability of photocells in sport: a systematic review
Specific physical qualities such as sprint running, change-of-direction or jump height are determinants of sports
performance. Photocell systems are practical and easy to use systems to assess the time from point A to point B. In addition, these photoelectric systems are also used to obtain the time of vertically displaced movements. Knowing the accuracy and precision of photocell timing can be a determinant of ensuring a higher quality interpretation of results and of selecting the most appropriate devices for specific objectives. This systematic review aimed to identify and summarize studies that have examined the validity and reliability of photocells in sport sciences. A systematic review of PubMed, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science databases was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. From the 164 studies initially identified, 16 were fully reviewed, and their outcome measures were extracted and analyzed. Photocells appear to have a strong agreement with force plates (gold standard), but are not interchangeable to measure the vertical jump. For monitoring horizontal displacement, double beam systems, compared to single beam systems, are more valid and reliable when it comes to avoiding false triggers caused by swinging arms or legs.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/
High-intensity interval training programs and their impact on endurance performance in handball players: a systematic review
Study aim: This systematic review aimed to identify and analyze the available evidence about the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) interventions on endurance performance in handball players.
Material and methods: The search for relevant literature was conducted across prominent databases, including PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science Core Collection. The eligibility criteria focused on healthy handball players, without restrictions on age, sex, or competitive level, who were exposed to HIIT interventions, either alone or in combination with other training methods. The methodological assessment employed the RoB2 and ROBINS scales. A screening process was executed, evaluating 434 titles, leading to the inclusion of 17 eligible studies in this systematic review, comprising a total of 369 participants.
Results: Most studies on HIIT in handball involved tier-two athletes (trained/developmental) and mostly men. The training frequency typically implemented was twice per week, with a duration between 4 and 12 weeks, with different types of HIIT.
There was considerable variation in outcomes across the included studies, with most of them demonstrating a significant positive impact of HIIT on improving endurance performance when compared to controls.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the predominant focus of the overall analyzed studies was on the effects of different HIIT interventions in obtaining positive performance adaptations assessed by field-based tests in handball players.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/
