This work aims to contribute to the study of data implementation from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technologies in bridges management systems, as a way of calculating displacements in structures for remote monitoring of large areas. Towards that, the dissertation presents a methodology that uses Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSar) data to detect displacements in bridges and tests its validity by comparison with measurement data recorded by traditional methods.
After presenting the main concepts associated with SAR, interferometry methods and other applications for bridges, a more detailed description of the processe related to the chosen Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) approach is made: Stanford Method for Persistent Scatterers (StaMPS).
This approach has a Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP)-StaMPS process chain adapted to the use of images from the Sentinel 1 mission for displacement estimates in Line of Sight (LOS). Subsequently, this data is analyzed in Geographic Information System (GIS) where a set of codes in Python, called Assistente de Análise, was created to convert LOS displacements and to process and visualize time series.
This process chain implementation was first carried out with the case study of a breakwater in Foz do Douro where the importance of correct topography and post-processing automation was concluded. Subsequently, two bridges, Ponte D. Luís and Ponte da Asseca in Santarém, were studied and the application of the methodology produces promising results, with a good correspondence between the variation over time and the order of magnitude, especially in terms of vertical displacements.
In general, the results obtained point to the applicability of InSAR technology in monitoring structures seen from space, such as bridges, allowing displacement estimates to be obtained with sub-centimeter precision, similar to the tolerances obtained with traditional topographic devices

Application of pine bark extracts on ready-to-eat smoked pork belly: effects on lipid oxidation and antioxidant capacity
Natural foods with increased nutritional content and additional biological and health benefits are appealing to modern customers. A growing interest in using natural substances to replace synthetic compounds in foods has sparked several thorough studies with plant-origin products. Maritime pine bark (Pinus pinaster subsp. atlantica) is an abundant waste from the timber industry and an important source of natural polyphenolic compounds. These compounds stand out due to their bioactive potential,
especially antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, that can be used for preserving foods, increasing their shelf life, safety, nutritional value, as well as reducing food waste. The present work aims to evaluate the efficiency of pine bark extracts for reducing lipid oxidation in a ready-to-eat cured-smoked pork belly product.9814-6B05-9C03 | Ricardo Miguel Pereira Pintoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A review on adopting blockchain and IoT technologies for fostering the circular economy in the electrical and electronic equipment value chain
With the continuous growth in the use of home appliances and electronics, waste produced
with obsolete material (e-waste) has an increasing environmental impact. Furthermore, the production
of such devices leads to increased consumption of natural resources and produces a multitude of
toxic and hazardous substances, which are normally not treated properly. One of the approaches
that may be adopted to reduce such problems relies on the circularization of the current linear
model, commonly adopted in the Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) value chain. This includes
recovering End-of-Life products and reintroducing their parts, components, or raw materials into the
value chain (e.g., semiconductors, circuit boards, raw metals, etc.), contributing to a more sustainable
value chain. In this article, we present a state-of-the-art review that focuses on approaches and
solutions for EEE value chain traceability and analyze the technologies that may be beneficial for
promoting and implementing the Circular Economy model in this value chain.EC18-399D-CF16 | ANTÓNIO MIGUEL RIBEIRO DOS SANTOS ROSADO DA CRUZN/
Fruit and vegetables blockchain-based traceability platform
Fresh food is difficult to preserve, especially because its characteristics can change, and
its nutritional value may decrease. Therefore, from the consumer’s point of view, it would be very
useful if, when buying fresh fruit or vegetables, they could know where it has been cultivated, when
it was harvested and everything that has happened from its harvest until it reached the supermarket
shelf. In other words, the consumer would like to have information about the traceability of the
fruit or vegetables they intend to buy. This article presents a blockchain-based platform that allows
institutions, consumers and business partners to track, back and forward, quality and sustainability
information about all types of fresh fruits and vegetables.EC18-399D-CF16 | ANTÓNIO MIGUEL RIBEIRO DOS SANTOS ROSADO DA CRUZN/
User experience in kiosk application for traceability of fishery products
Nowadays it is very important to understand the origins of most products because there is an increased product quality challenge and awareness from the customers about environmental and social aspects. Food traceability information must reach customers where they need to choose which products to buy. One of the best ways to provide this traceability information for the customers is to add kiosks on the points of sale of those products. This paper describes the development of Fish products traceability kiosk user interface and experience, in the scope of ValorMar R&D project, that will allow all kiosk devices in a supermarket, shop or other type of point of sale, to consult an online RESTfull API about the traceability of fish product lots. At the end of this development stage, a System Usability Scale questionnaire has been deployed to test the usability of this kiosk application, which was well accepted by the majority of the participants.EC18-399D-CF16 | ANTÓNIO MIGUEL RIBEIRO DOS SANTOS ROSADO DA CRUZN/
This dissertation analyzes the determinants/explanatory factors of the profitability of national investment funds, in which an empirical study was carried out on the impact of one of these identified determinants, Euribor, with the main objective of answering the question: among the main determinants/factors identified, what is the impact of Euribor on the profitability of Portuguese investment funds?
Although the investment fund market has been growing as an investment alternative for investors, it has been difficult to gather consensus in the literature regarding the explanatory determinants of fund performance and its relevance, as demonstrated in this work, using the information collected and relating it to social, economic and cultural factors.
In terms of methodology, the daily variation in Euribor interest rates for one week, one month, three months, six months and twelve months was considered, as well as the profitability of 34 national investment funds. The period from January 2, 2008 to December 30, 2022 was taken into account.
Therefore, this study seeks to make a contribution to the research carried out, by identifying the explanatory determinants of the profitability of investment funds and how Euribor impacts this profitability, and it can be concluded that, through the empirical study carried out, Euribor rates do not have a significant impact in the profitability of Portuguese investment funds
A metamodel-based approach for automatic user interface generation
One of the advantages of following a MDA-based approach in the development of interactive applications is the possibility of generating multiple platform-specific user interfaces (UI) from the same platform independent UI model. However, the effort required to create the UI model may be significant. In the case of data-intensive applications, a large part of the UI structure and functionality is closely related with the structure and functionality of the domain entities described in the domain model, and the access rules specified in the use case model. This paper presents an approach to reduce the effort required to create platform independent UI models for data intensive applications, by automatically generating an initial UI model from domain and use case models. For that purpose, UML-aligned metamodels for domain and use case models are defined, together with a MOF-based metamodel for user interface models. The transformation rules that drive the UI model generation are introduced. It is also proposed a MDA-based process for the development of data intensive interactive applications based on the proposed model architecture and transformations.EC18-399D-CF16 | ANTÓNIO MIGUEL RIBEIRO DOS SANTOS ROSADO DA CRUZinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
a randomized controlled study
Recreational small-sided games (SSGs) have demonstrated positive effects on body composition and physical fitness, while minimizing adverse outcomes. In this randomized controlled study, we aimed to investigate the impact of incorporating an additional 16-week intervention program involving recreational soccer SSGs on parameters related to body composition and physical fitness in sedentary young adult males and females. Sixty sedentary participants, with a mean age of 20.2 years, were randomly assigned to either the small-sided games group (SSG; n = 30) or the active control group, which participated in regular physical education classes (CG; n = 30). The SSG group engaged in the same activities as the control group but additionally participated in a
recreational SSG football program. This program involved continuous and intermittent moderate- to high-intensity exercises conducted on 20 m × 30 m and 30 m × 50 m football fields. In contrast, the CG group received 1 h of physical education once a week. The interventions were administered for a duration of sixteen weeks. Baseline, 8-week, and post-intervention assessments were conducted to measure body mass (BM), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), skinfold thickness (SFT), standing broad jump (SBJ), vertical jump (VJ), handgrip strength (HG) for both left and right hands, shuttle run distance (SRD), and shuttle run estimated VO2max. Results indicated that both male and female participants in the SSG group exhibited significant improvements in BM, BMI, SFT, WC, HC, and WHR following the intervention (p 0.05). Additionally, SSG participants (regardless of sex) displayed significant enhancements in SBJ, VJ, HG, SRD, and VO2max (p 0.05). The findings from this experimental study suggested that a 16-week recreational soccer SSG intervention effectively enhanced body composition and physical fitness among overweight sedentary young adults, offering a pleasurable alternative to conventional training approaches.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/
