Teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) in teacher education: reflections and future direction
The purpose of this article is to provide insights about the implementation of Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility-focused teacher training and shed light on practical and theoretical implications. Our reflections highlight that any professional preparation program that is committed to preparing teachers will choose the best way to promote learning. We have in mind that careful consideration for community involvement, having authentic commitment to Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility, being well informed about best practices and getting the teacher education student to “step outside the box” may be all important elements for success. Future challenges include delivering and assessing the impact of Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility-focused teacher training programs.1915-67BC-2519 | Linda Maria SaraivaN/
The burnout of nurses in intensive care units and the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: a scoping review
Abstract: Background: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has brought multiple challenges for health institutions and their professionals. The requirement of this disease forced nurses to confront organizational and clinical challenges to maintain the quality standards of care they provide. These requirements may have contributed to increased burnout symptoms. This study aims to map the scientific evidence related to nurses’ burnout in intensive care units. Methods: A scoping review will be conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. Relevant databases will be used as well as grey literature, where the following words will be used: burnout, nurses, intensive care units and SARS-CoV-2. Results: This scoping review will include all types of studies—quantitative, qualitative and mixed—and all types of reviews that focus on the objective of this review. Conclusions: It is vital to determine the impact of the burnout caused by the pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 to assess amending measures of risk and protection factors. This will help in the implementation of guidelines according to the available evidence. Additionally, this will help to improve the skills of these professionals as well as to reduce their emotional and physical exhaustion. This protocol is registered with the Open Science Framework.C51A-9E8C-BFC2 | Andreia LimaN/
Corporate social responsibility of sports clubs : what do supporters think?
Purpose – The authors intend to contribute to the lack of information about corporate social responsibility (CSR) in sports verified in the literature. The main purpose is to understand what the supporters’ perceptions of CSR practices in sports clubs are and how these initiatives influence some of their attitudes towards the clubs they support.
Design/methodology/approach – Using a total sample of 142 supporters, the study hypotheses were tested with PLS-SEM structural equation modeling.
Findings – The authors conclude that CSR initiatives have a positive influence in the supporters’ perception of the club and contribute to the positive word-of-mouth communication about the club. The results also show that these initiatives do not have a significant influence on the supporters’ intention to become or remain paid members of sports clubs.
Originality/value – It should be noted that research on CSR in the national sports context is scarce, which increases the importance of its contribution to the literature in this area.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira VieiraN/
Digital leadership: characteristics, challenges and opportunities
The authors define and set in context the digital transformation process and how it affects the development
of companies, the appearance of digital leadership and the characteristics predominantly recognized in this
new type of leadership. A qualitative methodology was employed to understand the triangular alignment
and involvement, composed of organization, digital transformation, and leadership. The authors verify
there are different top leaders in the most diverse areas of activity and that there are indeed substantial
changes in the leadership process. It allowed the identification of a set of characteristics, mainly from
the communicational point of view, which is essential for the effective pursuit of the objectives of both
the different work teams and the organizations themselves. The authors fill a gap in the extant literature
because they present the decisive leadership characteristics in the context of an increasingly digitalized
work environment, and have verified they are not yet strongly anchored in the extant literature.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira Vieirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

manchester triage. We also highlight the resilient investment in the development and
implementation of a complex protocol, within the scope of providing care in an emergency
context, to patients in an agitated/aggressive state that aims to mitigate a recurring problem.
In the academic domain of research, we developed a qualitative study using the Focus
Group technique, with the objective of building a standardized, simplified documentation
model that facilitates the nursing record that documents the nurse's role in evaluating and
intervening with the patient, during the inter-hospital transport. The conclusions of this
research study validated a recording model based on a mnemonic, standardizing and
facilitating nursing records during the inter-hospital transport of critically ill patients.
We consider that the experiences that took place during this internship were fundamental
and allowed the development of skills inherent to Specialist Nurses
Exploring the impact of a TPSR program on transference of responsibility goals within a preschool setting: an action research study
The teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) model has been extensively used in a
vast array of settings. However, few TPSR studies have focused on preschool settings. The purpose of
this action research study was to analyze the experiences of a program leader, her preschool children,
and their parents throughout a TPSR program focused on transference of responsibility model goals.
The participants were 25 preschool children, six parents, and a program leader involved in a preschool
setting located in the north of Portugal. Data were collected through reflexive journaling, participant
observations, semi-structured interviews, and focus group interviews. Findings suggest the TPSR
model could be a useful instructional model for preschool teachers focused on providing social and
emotional learning opportunities to their students. In order to foster transference, parents played a
pivotal role in this process and were included in the intervention, which appeared to enhance life
skill transfer.1915-67BC-2519 | Linda Maria SaraivaN/
Greater psychophysiological intensities in conditioned games may impair technical performance: an exploratory study in youth male soccer players
Purpose: The aim of this study was 2-fold: (1) to examine the relationships between psychophysiological responses and locomotor demands with variations in technical performance during 2v2 and 4v4 conditioned games and (2) to compare psychophysiological and locomotor responses among players exhibiting higher and lower technical performance levels during the conditioned games. Methods: Twenty-four male youth soccer players (16.3±0.8 y old) participating at the trained/ developmental level underwent monitoring for psychophysiological responses (including heart rate, rating of perceived exertion, and visual analog scale), locomotor demands (such as distance covered), and technical performance variables (including successful and unsuccessful passes and shots, as well as lost balls) across 2v2 and 4v4 formats. These formats were applied 4 times within a single session and were replicated twice over 2 weeks. Results: Large correlations between the number of lost balls per minute and mean heart rate were found in both the 2v2 and 4v4 games (r=.586 and r=.665, respectively). Successful shots were inversely and largely correlated with mean heart rate (r = −.518) in 4v4 games. The number of interceptions per minute was inversely and significantly correlated with the visual analog scale in 2v2 and 4v4 games (r = −.455 and r = −.710, respectively).
The frequency of lost balls was significantly higher among players who attained a higher mean heart rate (2v2: +42.9%, P = .031, d=−0.965; 4v4: +57.1%, P<.001, d=−2.072). Conclusions: Coaches should be aware that highly psychophysiologically demanding scenarios may significantly impair technical performance. Therefore, prioritizing technical performance by deliberately adjusting the intensity should be considered.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/
Assessing carbohydrate counting accuracy: current limitations and future directions
Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent chronic autoimmune disease with a high impact on global
health, affecting millions of adults and resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. Achieving
optimal blood glucose levels is crucial for diabetes management to prevent acute and long-term
complications. Carbohydrate counting (CC) is widely used by patients with type 1 diabetes to adjust
prandial insulin bolus doses based on estimated carbohydrate content, contributing to better glycemic
control and improved quality of life. However, accurately estimating the carbohydrate content
of meals remains challenging for patients, leading to errors in bolus insulin dosing. This review
explores the current limitations and challenges in CC accuracy and emphasizes the importance
of personalized educational programs to enhance patients’ abilities in carbohydrate estimation.
Existing tools for assessing patient learning outcomes in CC are discussed, highlighting the need
for individualized approaches tailored to each patient’s needs. A comprehensive review of the
relevant literature was conducted to identify educational programs and assessment tools dedicated
to training diabetes patients on carbohydrate counting. The research aims to provide insights into
the benefits and limitations of existing tools and identifies future research directions to advance
personalized CC training approaches. By adopting a personalized approach to CC education and
assessment, healthcare professionals can empower patients to achieve better glycemic control and
improve diabetes management. Moreover, this review identifies potential avenues for future research,
paving the way for advancements in personalized CC training and assessment approaches and
further enhancing diabetes management strategies.B910-DDDF-6BB2 | Luís Carlos Carvalho da GraçaN/
The use of sugar beet pulp in pig diet to control skatole analysed by HPLC quantification method
This study aimed to determine the efficacy of a finishing diet added with sugar
beet pulp to reduce backfat skatole of entire male pigs, using the optimised high-performance
liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method. The study comprised 72 males Pietrain (Large White
× Landrace), divided into two groups of 36 animals each. Pigs in group A (treatment) were
fed a supplemented formula (addition of 10 % beet pulp). while animals in group B (control)
received a commercial feed, both for a period of 14 days before slaughter. The isocratic HPLC
method achieved the chromatographic separation of indolic compounds in approximately 3 min.
Skatole was significantly lower (p = 0.002) in group A, showing that beet root supplementation
reduced skatole levels in pig fat. In addition, the optimised HPLC method was reliable, less timeconsuming, and showed a resolution suitable for small amounts of skatole9814-6B05-9C03 | Ricardo Miguel Pereira PintoN/
