Temperature dependence of the thermo-optic coefficient of SiO2 glass
Get PDFThis paper presents a thorough analysis on the temperature dependence of the thermo-optic
coefficient, dn/dT, of four bulk annealed pure-silica glass samples (type I—natural quartz: Infrasil
301; type II—quartz crystal powder: Heraeus Homosil; type III—synthetic vitreous silica: Corning
7980 and Suprasil 3001) from room temperature down to 0 K. The three/four term temperature
dependent Sellmeier equations and respective coefficients were considered, which results from fitting
to the raw data obtained by Leviton et al. The thermo-optic coefficient was extrapolated down to
zero Kelvin. We have obtained dn/dT values ranging from 8.16 × 10−6 up to 8.53 × 10−6
for the four
samples at 293 K and for a wavelength of 1.55 µm. For the Corning 7980 SiO2 glass, the thermo-optic
coefficient decreases monotonically, from 8.74 × 10−6 down to 8.16 × 10−6
, from the visible range up
to the third telecommunication window, being almost constant above 1.3 µm. The Ghosh’s model
was revisited, and it was concluded that the thermal expansion coefficient only accounts for about 2%
of the thermo-optic coefficient, and we have obtained an expression for the temperature behavior of
the silica excitonic bandgap. Wemple’s model was also analyzed where we have also considered the
material dispersion in order to determine the coefficients and respective temperature dependences.

localizado em Coimbra, por apresentar as condições necessárias à prática de
exercício físico, pelas aulas de grupo apresentadas e pela disponibilidade que
a administração demonstrou em receber-me e em explicar-me como se iria
desenvolver o estágio. Este encontra-se aberto há cerca de 8 anos tendo sido
desenvolvido um dia diferente na data do teu aniversário. Foi possível
desempenhar algumas funções autonomamente no final do estágio, após ter
passado por várias avaliações e formações, como acompanhamento de sala,
avaliações físicas, aulas grupo (indoor cycling, strong by zumba, localizada,
fisic xtreme, circuito e fisic ball). Este serviu para vivenciar e por em prática
tudo o que aprendi na teoria, podendo complementar o meu conhecimento
teórico com as experiências vividas na prática.
No decorrer do estágio participei em várias aulas, tendo uma delas
suscitado a minha curiosidade, a modalidade de zumba, relativamente às
exigências físicas que esta fazia sentir no decorrer da mesma. Pode concluir
através da caracterização do tipo de aula e dos estudos que foram realizados,
que quem pratica esta modalidade será fisicamente mais saudáveis trazendo-lhe
vantagens, pois não só ajuda a melhorar a sua aptidão física, como
também ajuda a melhorar o seu sistema cardiovascular e proporciona o
aumento da perda de peso.
O relatório final é o resultado de um ano de experiências vividas,
tornando-me numa instrutora de fitness com mais experiência e conhecimentos
adquiridos. Considero que aprendi muito e superei todas as minhas
expectativas relativamente as experiencias vividas. Preparou-me para o mundo
do trabalho ganhando consciência de que os ginásios evoluíram muito desde
os seus primórdios e que existe bastantes ameaçadas pela quantidade de
instrutores formados e com grandes conhecimentos na área. Este relatório
serve para analisar a minha prestação enquanto estagiária e ajudar-me a
reflectir sobre o futuro próspero.The curricular internship was developed at the Gymnasium Fisicamente
Health Club in Coimbra, for presenting the necessary conditions for physical
exercises, for the group classes and for the availability that the administration
showed in receiving me and explaining to me how the internship would be
developed.
This one has been open for 8 years and has been developed a different
day on the anniversary date. After various assessments and trainings, such as
room monitoring, physical assessments, group lessons (indoor cycling, strong
by Zumba, localized, fisic extreme, circuit e fisic ball), you can perform at the
end of the stages some functions autonomously. This served to experience and
put into practice everything I learned in theory, and I can additionally my
theoretical knowledge with the experiences lived in practice.
During the internship I participated in several classes, one of them
aroused my curiosity, the modality of Zumba, due to the physical demands it
made during the class.
In the end, through the characterization of the type of class and of the
studies, those who practice this modality will be physically healthier, bringing
various advantages, as it not only helps to improve their physical fitness, but
also helps to improve their cardiovascular system , as it helps in increasing
weight loss.
The final report is the result of a year lived experiences, making me a
fitness instructor with more experience and acquired knowledge. I have learned
a lot and exceeded all my expectations regarding the practical experiences. It
has prepared me for the world of work in the gyms that it have evolved a lot
since its beginnings. Also the curricular internship prepared me to compete with
the others instructors with great knowledge in the area

Get PDFTrabalho de projeto apresentado para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Desporto Natureza, na Escola Superior de Desporto e Lazer de Melgaço, do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo.É um facto inegável que o turismo tem vindo a desempenhar um papel cada vez mais importante na economia nacional e que, além disso, os seus impactos económicos, sociais e ambientais vão gradualmente marcando a nossa sociedade. A nível económico os benefícios para certas regiões são incomparáveis com qualquer outra atividade, sobretudo na criação de postos de trabalho e no aumento de receitas, fruto do turismo nacional, mas sobretudo internacional. No entanto, é impossível deixar de referir os impactos negativos que uma má gestão da atividade turística tem vindo a desenvolver na sociedade, presentes na perda de identidade de certas regiões, no trabalho precário, no aumento dos preços das habitações, aumento das desigualdades sociais, entre outras e, sobretudo na natureza, com a utilização irresponsável de recursos naturais, a destruição de habitats, vários tipos de poluição, etc.
Nesta linha de orientação o objetivo principal deste projeto é criar uma empresa de atividades de natureza, a NaturTirso, que em simbiose com a cultura local do concelho de Santo Tirso, utilizará a comunidade local, como forma de potenciar toda a riqueza natural e/ou cultural do território, aumentado a sua visibilidade e acessível para todos. Após a realização de um estudo de mercado e da avaliação do potencial natural e cultural do concelho, foi estabelecido um modelo de negócio adaptado à realidade do território selecionado e onde se desenrolarão grande parte das atividades, assim como um plano de marketing direcionado aos objetivos comerciais da empresa. Assim sendo, a empresa terá no seu leque de atividades o canyoning, escalada, rapel e slide, trilhos pedestres guiados, passeios e aluguer de E-Bikes assim como rotas temáticas onde com a ajuda de um guia terão a oportunidade de explorar a história do concelho e o seu património material e imaterial.
Por último e como forma de estudar o verdadeiro potencial de todo o projeto, foi elaborada uma avaliação financeira onde estão contemplados os custos adjacentes à criação da empresa, assim como uma simulação de vendas das atividades promovidas com a consequente avaliação dos resultados obtidos.It is an undeniable fact that tourism has been playing an increasingly vital role in the national economy and that, moreover, its economic, social and environmental impacts gradually mark our society. In economic terms, the benefits for certain regions are incomparable with any other activity, especially in the creation of jobs and in the increase of revenues, the result of national, but especially international tourism. However, it is impossible to fail to mention the negative impacts that poor management of tourism activity has been developing in society, present in the loss of identity of certain regions, precarious work, rising housing prices, increasing social inequalities, among others and especially in nature, with the irresponsible use of natural resources, the destruction of habitats, various types of pollution, etc. To promote a greener tourist practice, it is necessary to enable forms of activity planning according to sustainable standards, in order to reduce its negative impacts, opening doors to the inclusion of nature and society.
In this guideline the main objective of this project is to create a company of nature activities, NaturTirso, which in symbiosis with the local culture of the municipality of Santo Tirso, will use the local community, as a way to enhance all the natural and/or cultural wealth of the territory, increasing its visibility and accessible to all. After conducting a market study and evaluating the natural and cultural potential of the municipality, a business model was established adapted to the reality of the selected territory and where most of the activities will take place, as well as a marketing plan directed to the company’s commercial objectives. Therefore, the company will have in its range of activities canyoning, climbing, abseiling and slide, guided walking trails, tours and rent of E-Bikes as well as thematic routes where with the help of a guide you will have the opportunity to explore the history of the county and its material and intangible heritage.
Finally, and to study the true potential of the whole project, a financial assessment was prepared which includes the costs adjacent to the creation of the company, sales simulation of the activities promoted with the consequent evaluation of the results obtained
EU citizens’ perception of risks posed to the sustainability of EU food security
Get PDFFood security is a core global sustainability challenge and priority of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Events like COVID-19, extreme weather, and global conflicts have significantly impacted food prices, as evidenced by the FAO food price index rising from 95.1 in 2019 to 143.7 in 2022, heightening EU food security concerns. The European Commission responded with a food supply contingency plan. According to Eurobarometer data, our study shows that EU citizens’ food security concerns vary by demographic, political, and socioeconomic factors. While men prioritize external factors like climate change, women express greater concern for local social issues, including small farm viability. Age influences the concern focus, with younger people worried about agricultural stagnation, and older individuals recalling past economic crises. Education and income also play roles, with educated and wealthier citizens worried about environmental risks, and less educated, poorer individuals more concerned about socioeconomic impacts. Political leanings and urban/rural divides shape concerns, as well as EU policy dissatisfaction, which links to worries over economic vulnerability and nationalism. Effective EU food security policies require understanding complex factors, stakeholder collaboration, and tailored strategies for diverse needs. A gestão da dor da pessoa grande queimada: uma intervenção em enfermagem especializada

Relata o processo de construção de competências na conceção de cuidados de enfermagem especializada à Pessoa em Situação Crítica, adquiridas no Estágio de Natureza Profissional realizado na Unidade de Queimados.
A Pessoa em Situação Crítica requer um foco constante de cuidados especializados e diferenciados pois está constantemente ameaçada de falência de uma ou mais funções vitais e a sua sobrevivência depende dos meios avançados tecnológicos de vigilância, monitorização e terapêutica intensiva. É neste contexto de cuidados que se insere a Pessoa Grande Queimada, isto é uma pessoa com queimadura grave, com dor intensa e
ansiedade, em hipovolémia, hipoxia e hipotermia passando por processo de evolução crítica que compromete o prognóstico vital. A dor evidencia-se como uma das experiências mais traumatizantes para a Pessoa Grande Queimada. Assim, o controlo da dor é um cuidado fundamental para a melhoria da capacidade funcional, psicológica, aumento da qualidade de vida e diminuição do tempo de internamento hospitalar.
A reflexão sobre esta problemática, aliado ao facto de exercer funções em cuidados intensivos há longa data, para dar continuidade ao curso de mestrado, optámos por realizar o Estágio de Natureza Profissional numa Unidade de Queimados com objetivo de: desenvolver Competências Comuns de Enfermeiro Especialista; desenvolver Competências Específicas em Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica na área de cuidados à Pessoa em Situação Crítica; desenvolver Competências de Investigação em saúde.
A elaboração do relatório assenta na apresentação de uma reflexão crítica e analítica do processo de aquisição das competências, através do relato do processo de construção de conhecimento, sistematizando o percurso desenvolvido, articulado com os referenciais teóricos e a melhor evidência disponível.
Entre as variadíssimas atividades realizadas, desenvolvemos um estudo qualitativo, exploratório, descritivo sobre a abordagem da equipa de enfermagem na gestão da dor da Pessoa Grande Queimada numa Unidade de Queimados.
Os principais resultados revelam que os enfermeiros mobilizam várias estratégias para avaliação da dor tal como a escala numérica para a pessoa que comunica, contudo, nenhuma escala para a pessoa que não comunica; as intervenções realizadas pelos enfermeiros no controlo da dor assentam nas medidas farmacológicas, mas também, utilizam medidas não farmacológicas tais como os posicionamentos frequentes; as dificuldades sentidas pelos enfermeiros no controlo da dor, relacionam-se com a própria Pessoa Grande Queimada associada à subjetividade da dor, dificuldade na avaliação da dor e gestão farmacológica; os enfermeiros consideram existir um conjunto de intervenções clínicas geradores ou potenciadores de dor, associadas ao próprio tratamento, desde logo cuidados à região queimada, dadora e também à enxertada.
No que concerne ao desenvolvimento de Competências Especializadas de Enfermagem, o Estágio de Natureza Profissional permitiu-nos, assim, a compreensão mais abrangente do processo de cuidados da Pessoa Grande Queimada e família, destacam-se o desenvolvimento de competências da área de conceção de cuidados à Pessoa em Situação Crítica, em particular na gestão da dor da Pessoa Grande Queimada, na maximização da prevenção, intervenção e controlo face à infeção associada aos cuidados de saúde, competência na gestão de cuidados, melhoria contínua da qualidade e formação em contexto de trabalho, que permitem uma intervenção integrada a nível técnico-científica, ético e humano.This report systematizes the path developed during the period of acquisition of Common
Skills, Specific Skills for Specialist Nurses, and Master’s in Medical-Surgical Nursing. It reports the process of building skills in the design of specialized nursing care for People in Critical Situations, acquired in the Professional Internship carried out in the Burns Unit.
People in Critical Situations require a constant focus on specialized and differentiated care as they are constantly threatened with the failure of one or more vital functions and their survival depends on advanced technological means of surveillance, monitoring, and intensive therapy. It is in this context of care that the Big Burned Person fits in, that is, a person with severe burns, with intense pain and anxiety, in hypovolemia, hypoxia and hypothermia going through a process of critical evolution that compromises the vital prognosis. Pain is one of the most traumatic experiences for the burned person. Therefore, pain control is a fundamental care for improving functional and psychological capacity, increasing the quality of life, and reducing hospital stay.
Reflecting on this issue, combined with the fact that I have been working in intensive care for a long time, to continue the master's degree, we chose to carry out the Professional Internship in a Burns Unit with the aim of developing Common Skills of a Specialist Nurse; develop Specific Skills in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of care for People in Critical Situations; develop health research skills.
The preparation of the report is based on the presentation of a critical and analytical reflection of the process of acquiring skills, through the report of the knowledge construction process, systematizing the path developed, articulated with theoretical references and the best available evidence.
Among the varied activities carried out, we developed a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive study on the nursing team's approach to managing the pain of severely burned people in a Burns Unit.
The main results reveal that nurses use several strategies to assess pain, such as a numerical scale for the person who communicates, but no scale for the person who does not communicate; Interventions carried out by nurses to control pain are based on pharmacological measures, but also use non-pharmacological measures such as frequent positioning; the difficulties experienced by nurses in controlling Pain are related to the Severe Burnt Person itself associated with the subjectivity of Pain, difficulty in assessing Pain and pharmacological management; nurses consider that there are a set of clinical interventions that generate or enhance pain, associated with the treatment itself, including care for the burned, donor and also the grafted region.
Regarding the development of specialized nursing skills, the Professional Nature Internship thus allowed us to have a more comprehensive understanding of the care process for the Big Burnt Person and their family, highlighting the development of skills in the area of care design to Persons in Critical Situations, in particular in the management of Pain in Severely Burnt Persons, in maximizing prevention, intervention, and control in the face of infections associated with healthcare, competence in care management, continuous quality improvement and training in the work context, which allow integrated intervention at a technical-scientific, ethical and human level
Estratégias de marketing digital nas PME : O caso da região de Viana do Castelo

especialmente para as pequenas e médias empresas (PME), que procuram competir e
atrair clientes num ambiente cada vez mais digital. Este estudo tem como objetivo
analisar as estratégias de marketing digital adotadas pelas PME na região de Viana do
Castelo, através do método exploratório com abordagem quantitativa, de forma a
identificar e analisar as diferentes práticas de marketing digital dessas empresas.
Adicionalmente, o estudo procura compreender como essas empresas implementam
essas estratégias, identificando possíveis lacunas e desafios que enfrentam. A pesquisa
é motivada pela necessidade de explorar as dificuldades enfrentadas pelas PME no
ambiente online e incentivar a adoção de estratégias mais eficazes, os dados deste
estudo podem ser valiosos para as empresas da região, associações empresariais,
entidades governamentais, investidores e financiadores, mas também contribuir para o
entendimento da situação atual do marketing digital das empresas da região de Viana
do Castelo. A amostra incluiu 71 empresas do distrito de Viana do Castelo, identificadas
nas listas de PME Líder distinguidas nos anos 2021 e 2022 pela entidade Instituto de
Apoio às Pequenas e Médias Empresas e à Inovação (IAPMEI). A análise dos
resultados revelou que não há associação significativa entre o uso de estratégias e
fatores como o volume de negócio, o modelo de negócio, o setor de atividade, a
dimensão das PME e o foco nas estratégias de marketing digital da concorrência. No
entanto, existe uma associação positiva, embora baixa, entre os gastos e a satisfação
com os resultados do marketing digital, em que gastos médios mais altos estão
relacionados níveis de satisfação mais elevados.In recent times, an online presence has become essential for companies, especially
small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which seek to compete and attract
customers in an increasingly digital environment. This study aims to examine the digital
marketing strategies adopted by SMEs in the Viana do Castelo region, using an
exploratory method with a quantitative approach, to identify and analyse the different
digital marketing practices of these companies. In addition, the study seeks to
understand how these companies implement these strategies, identifying gaps and
challenges they may face. The research is motivated by the need to explore the
difficulties faced by SMEs in the online environment and encourage the adoption of more
effective strategies, the data from this study can be valuable for companies in the region,
business associations, government bodies, investors and financiers, but also contribute
to understanding the current situation of digital marketing for companies in the Viana do
Castelo region. The sample included 71 companies from the Viana do Castelo region,
identified in the lists of SME’s Leaders distinguished in 2021 and 2022 by the
organisation Instituto de Apoio às Pequenas e Médias Empresas e à Inovação (IAPMEI).
Analysing the results revealed that there is no significant association between the use of
strategies and factors such as turnover, business model, sector of activity, SME size and
focus on competitors' digital marketing strategies, but there is a positive association,
while low, between spending and satisfaction with digital marketing results, where higher
average spending is related to higher levels of satisfaction
The use of Tinkercad and 3D printing in interdisciplinary STEAM education: A focus on engineering design
Get PDFSTE(A)M education (combining science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) has globally become a growing concern, being recognized as having the potential to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. However, the levels of integration of the involved disciplines, as well as their relevance, tend to vary. Engineering design (ED) is being used in educational contexts as an ideal STEAM content integrator to solve ill-structured real-world problems, using the practices of engineering as a problem-solving model. The present study aimed to understand how future elementary school teachers can solve an authentic problem that demands the construction of an artifact, using the ED process in the context of 3D printing, focusing on their performance, the perception of the role of the STEAM disciplines, and the potentials and challenges of computer-assisted design (CAD) and 3D printing. We conducted a qualitative exploratory study with 72 pre-service teachers of elementary education. The implementation was based on a didactical experience focused on solving an authentic problem through the ED process using Tinkercad and 3D printing. The research findings revealed that some of the participants did not follow the ED model exactly as it was presented, skipping or merging steps, but all were able to find a solution and reflect about how to improve it. The majority identified concepts associated with all of the STEAM subjects, although they found it easier to refer to mathematics and science topics. They valued the use of Tinkercad and 3D printing, which allowed them to easily build a virtual model and make it tangible, while also recognizing some challenges in the use of these technological resources. Relatório de estágio na agência B+ Comunicação : os desafios que os criativos enfrentam com a transição digital.
Get PDFO presente relatório foi desenvolvido no âmbito do estágio curricular na agência
de comunicação B+ Comunicação. Durante os seis meses em que ocorreu o referido
estágio, foi possível um contacto próximo com o contexto profissional e com o mercado,
bem como dada a oportunidade de aplicar todo o conhecimento teórico adquirido até ao
momento.
Durante o estágio foram desempenhadas as funções de social media, copywriter
e account manager. Por serem áreas tão ligadas à criatividade e à tecnologia e, pelo
facto de as duas se terem tornado aliadas tão fortes nos últimos anos, foi realizado um
estudo qualitativo que tentou perceber e aprofundar quais os desafios que os criativos
de agência de comunicação enfrentam com a transição digital.
As conclusões extraídas a partir das respostas dadas às entrevistas
exploratórias semiestruturadas, revelaram que, os principais desafios da transição
digital para o setor, baseiam-se em questões de fragmentação do mercado, na falsa
sensação de que não são precisos especialistas, na falta de critério na validação de
trabalhos, nos elevados níveis de stress, nas longas jornadas de trabalho, na
sobreposição de tarefas, nas dificuldades em educar os clientes que não acompanham
a transformação e as tendências do setor, na impaciente espera por resultados
instantâneos e no tempo escasso para pensar e aprimorar a criatividade.This report was developed as part of the curricular internship at the
communication agency B+ Comunicação. During the six-month period of the internship,
it was possible to closely engage with the professional context and the market, as well
as to apply all the theoretical knowledge acquired to date.
Throughout the internship, roles performed included social media manager,
copywriter, and account manager. Given that these areas are so closely linked to
creativity and technology, and due to their strong alliance in recent years, a qualitative
study was conducted to understand and delve deeper into the challenges faced by
creatives in communication agencies with the digital transition.
The conclusions drawn from the responses to the exploratory semi-structured
interviews revealed that the main challenges of the digital transition for the sector are
based on issues such as market fragmentation, the false perception that specialists are
not needed, lack of criteria in work validation, high levels of stress, long working hours,
task overlap, difficulties in educating clients who do not keep up with industry
transformation and trends, the impatient wait for instant results, and the limited time
available to think and refine creativity
The soundscape in the understanding of the literary text
Get PDFThis article is the result of a study conducted in a 4th grade class, focusing on Murray Schafer's concept of
soundscape as a strategy to promote literary comprehension. This way, it is intended to understand the
effects provided by the soundscape on literary comprehension in order to contribute to the change in
teaching. Thus, a qualitative methodology was chosen with an approach to action research. Regarding
techniques, observation, interview, audiovisual records (audio, video and photography) and documents
of the participants were used. After analysing, it was concluded that the soundscape does indeed have a
positive role in literary comprehension. This study reveals the potential of the relationship between music
and literature, allowing children to live experiences where they are the ones building their own

Este relatório tem como principal objetivo analisar crítico-reflexivamente todas as atividades desenvolvidas, como resposta aos domínios da prestação de cuidados de enfermagem na área da pessoa em situação crítica, da formação, da gestão e investigação, de forma a adquirir competências especializadas em enfermagem médico-cirúrgica.
As atividades desenvolvidas nos diferentes domínios foram realizadas com sustentação em bases teóricas e na evidência científica, garantindo uma melhoria da qualidade dos cuidados e excelência da profissão. Foi também desenvolvido, um estudo descritivo-correlacional no sentido de analisar a satisfação profissional dos enfermeiros durante a pandemia por Covid-19. A pertinência deste estudo decorreu pelo impacto que a satisfação no trabalho representa na vida profissional e pessoal dos enfermeiros. Dos resultados obtidos destaca-se que a globalidade dos enfermeiros desta unidade apresentava-se pouco satisfeita profissionalmente. A dimensão que mais contribuía para esta insatisfação era a remuneração salarial. No entanto, a relação interpessoal com os colegas de trabalho era o fator que contribuía mais favoravelmente.
Da experiência do estágio é de evidenciar o papel fundamental do enfermeiro especialista em enfermagem médico-cirúrgica numa equipa de cuidados intensivos, sempre com o propósito da diferenciação e melhoria dos cuidados prestados. Enquanto ser individual, saliento a importância do desenvolvimento de competências, numa aprendizagem contínua, com o intuito de agir pelo melhor da equipa e dos cuidados prestados à pessoa em situação crítica.The Professional Clinical Practice module, from the 8th Nursing Master’s Course with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, implied a clinical practice that ended with a written report where it was referred all the activities carried out in the Intensive Care Unit. This main purpose of this report is to expose the critical-reflexive analysis of all activities developed, as a response to the domains of care provision, training, management, and research, related to an intensive care patient, to acquire specialized skills in medical-surgical nursing.
The activities developed in all the different domains were executed with theoretical foundation and scientifical evidence, ensuring an improvement in the quality of care and excellency of the profession. A study related to professional satisfaction during the Covid-19 pandemic was also developed, following all the steps that constitute the entire research process. The significance of this study was due to the impact that job satisfaction had on professional and personal life of nurses. Of the results obtained, it stands out all nurses in this unit were not professionally satisfied. The aspect that most contributed to this dissatisfaction was salary remuneration. However, the interpersonal relationship with co-workers was the factor that contributed most favourably.
The clinical practice experience highlights the fundamental role of nurse specialists in medical-surgical nursing in an intensive care team, always with the purpose of differentiating and improving the care provided.
