Currently, gastronomic tourism, wine tourism, or, as it is commonly called, enogastronomic tourism, are products in a growth phase worldwide. In order for enogastronomic tourism to be appreciated by many people, events of this kind are created, publicising the tourist destination and its delicacies. The main aim of this research project is to identify the profile of the public that attends enogastronomic events in the municipality of Ponte de Lima. This municipality was chosen for the following reasons: a) there are several wine and gastronomy events in Ponte de Lima; b) enogastronomic tourism is considered very important in this municipality, estimated to have a high value. A quantitative approach was developed through the elaboration of a questionnaire survey to collect primary data, being a privileged data collection instrument for the problem in question, allowing us to understand and identify the main motivations and consumption behaviors of enogastronomic visitors. Participants in the gastronomic events of the municipality were surveyed to obtain answers for this work. With the conclusions, it was possible to understand that there are many visitors motivated by enogastronomic reasons and who value these events, even in low seasons, considering them very interesting. The traditional gastronomy of Ponte de Lima is an important tourist attraction, and this is not the first time that the respondents have participated in an event of this nature and obtained knowledge of this event through the recommendation of family and friends (thus, it is understood that they opinions are very important, therefore the event must pay attention to all details to delight many people). For future research, it would be interesting to study what visitors to Ponte de Lima want to taste, allowing the municipality to offer a “appetizer” for a first impression of the visitor and it would also be important to study future events that Ponte de Lima could organise in order to promote enogastronomy

Abstract: School mathematics requires effective teaching that engages students in meaningful learning experiences, both individually and collaboratively, providing them with opportunities to communicate, reason, be creative, think critically, solve problems, and make decisions. In this approach, students are active individuals involved in their learning process, shaped by intellectual, social and physical interactions. So, future teachers should implement practices that lead their own students to develop these skills, which underscores the importance of teacher training programs designed to meet these challenges. This paper presents an exploratory qualitative study aimed at characterizing the Math Education Lab at our institution, the LEM, focusing on its role in teacher training programs to enhance pedagogical practices and improve students’ mathematical knowledge. In particular, we are interested in: characterizing the evolution of the LEM since its creation to the present day; describing activities experienced by preservice teachers in the LEM; and identifying future teachers’ perceptions about the LEM’s role in their professional development. Data were collected through a narrative design, based on documents, a questionnaire, and the personal experiences of two trainers/researchers who have engaged with the LEM over its existence. Preliminary results show that the LEM has evolved from a mere repository of manipulative materials, into a dynamic space where active learning of mathematics is worked on and research is carried out. Future teachers express the LEM’s importance as a privileged space to work on mathematics in different ways, in accordance with current trends, useful for their personal learning and actualization, but also as future teachers.

Abstract Context and Objectives: Population aging is one of the greatest achievements of our civilization but also presents a fundamental challenge for 21st-century society, requiring innovative solutions and intergenerational solidarity. Successful aging within institutional settings demands deep reflections on the well-being and quality of life of older adults. This study examines the relationship between spirituality and resilience, investigating how these variables influence coping strategies among elderly residents in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) in northern Portugal. Spirituality is addressed as a subjective dimension tied to the search for meaning and purpose in life, recognized for its positive impact on coping with mortality and promoting emotional well-being. Resilience is explored as a multifaceted adaptive process, integrating personal, social, and contextual factors. It is regarded in academic discourse both as a process and as an outcome of accumulated experiences with normative and non-normative events, enabling older adults to overcome challenges associated with aging and institutionalization. The study analyzed resilience and spirituality to explore their psychosocial determinants among elderly residents in RCFE facilities in the northern region of Portugal. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive-correlational, and cross-sectional study involving 68 participants with an average age of 82.2 years (SD = 8.14), residing in RCFEs across Viana do Castelo, Esposende, and Ponte de Lima. Data collection included a sociodemographic questionnaire, variables related to institutionalization, health status, and religious practices. Instruments included the Spirituality Evaluation Scale by Pinto and Pais-Ribeiro (2007) and the Resilience Scale (RS) by Wagnild and Young (1993), validated for the Portuguese population by Coelhoso et al. (2014). Results: The sample consisted predominantly of women (64.7%), most of whom were widowed (54.4%) with education up to primary school (64.7%) and previous occupations in industry (32.4%) or commerce (33.8%). Regarding religious practices, the sample was predominantly Catholic (80.9%). Most participants had been living in RCFE for less than five years (77.9%), received daily or weekly visits (45.5%), and frequently left the facility (44.1%) to engage in family outings (47.1%). The study revealed correlations between resilience and spirituality factors. The Hope factor showed a positive, moderate, and statistically significant correlation with Perseverance and Meaning in Life. Results indicated a positive relationship between religious beliefs and life meaning, particularly among women, reflecting the sociocultural context. Hope was also linked to resilience and family outings, suggesting that social interaction enhances quality of life. Conclusion: This study aimed to understand the relationship between spirituality and resilience in elderly residents of RCFE in three regions of northern Portugal, highlighting factors that promote well-being in the face of population aging. Results showed that women exhibited stronger positive correlations with the Belief factor, reflecting their predominance in the sample. Additionally, elderly individuals practicing religion displayed a positive correlation with Beliefs. The Hope factor was moderately and positively correlated with the frequency of outings and the Meaning in Life resilience factor. Despite sample limitations, the study underscores the importance of spirituality through practices like religion, meditation, and connection with nature. These findings highlight the need for further studies on gerotranscendence to achieve a comprehensive understanding of aging

The impact of daylight saving time on the energy efficiency of buildings: a bibliometric and general review

    Get PDF
The absence of standardized time zones has profound implications, influencing social, economic, and energy dynamics. It also disrupts personal aspects, such as sleep patterns and family routines. One specific dimension of this issue is the transition to daylight saving time (DST), which entails shifting between standard time (winter) and daylight saving time (summer). This practice has sparked global debates due to its varying impacts across regions and sectors. Although DST primarily aims to optimize energy consumption by leveraging natural daylight, much attention has focused on its broader societal effects. However, the energy performance of commercial buildings under DST remains an underexplored yet equally significant area. This article presents a literature review to critically evaluate the effects of the winter-to-summer time shift on commercial buildings, concentrating on three key factors: energy consumption, where seasonal variations in lighting, heating, and cooling demands may alter anticipated energy savings; occupant thermal comfort, as time changes can disrupt the circadian rhythms of building occupants, impacting productivity and well-being; and operational considerations, as building systems like HVAC andautomated controls must adjust to shifting daylight schedules. Accordingly, this review seeks to offer a comprehensive understanding of how the winter–summer time transition affects commercial buildings by analyzing energy consumption patterns, occupant comfort levels, and operational challenges. In doing so, it contributes to optimizing building management practices under varying daylight conditions to enhance energy efficiency and occupant satisfaction.7211-5AB5-5A23 | Ivo AraujoN/

Training and assessing motor skills from a non-periodized perspective

    No full text
Training periodization has reached an almost mythical status in sport: little is questioned whether the definition of a temporal organization and sequence of contents rigidly followed leads to superior sports performance than that resulting from non-periodized strategies, especially in team sports. This is a paradigm that urgently should be changed. The ability to change direction is an example of a complex motor skill, with multi pie determining factors ( e.g., technique, linear sprint speed, anthropometry, reactive strength, concentric strength and power, and muscle imbalances), which is associated with the injury risk during its execution (e.g., knee), and can be analyzed in detail in mechanical terms ( e.g., braking and propulsion forces in contacts with the ground). Each individual presents different combinations of strengths and weaknesses during qualitative (technical) and quantitative assessments in change of direction tests. Thus, it makes little sense that everyone should practice in the sarne way and follow the sarne temporal sequence of contents (i.e., periodization). ln opposition, the proposal is that the assessments provide information for training programs about this and other capacities, and that training shows which are the most important assessments to be carried out at that moment There should not exist rigid tralning periodization structures, but instead flexibility depending on individual and collective needs.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel Clementeinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Abstract This report was developed as part of the Supervised Teaching Practice (PES) curricular unit, which is included in the Master's Degree in Pre-School Education and Primary Education at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (ESE-IPVC). Although Literature is naturally open to interdisciplinary connections between the subjects of Portuguese and Environmental Studies—both of which are part of the primary school curriculum—the curricular structure ultimately separates them. Currently, there is a growing lack of interest among students in these two subjects. In response to this, a research study was conducted with a group of twenty-four children aged between eight and nine years old, who were in their third year of primary education. To carry out this study, two central research questions were formulated: i) How have students been constructing their knowledge in the fields of Literature and History? ii) What impact can an interdisciplinary approach have on the development of historicalliterary learning skills? A qualitative methodology was adopted, using a case study design. The methods used for data collection included observation, informal conversations, and questionnaire surveys. The results demonstrated that the use of documentary sources, such as Literature, contributes both to the development of students' historical knowledge and to fostering a love of reading

Purpose. the objective of the present manuscript was to analyse the flow of play in high-level women’s volleyball by sequencing game complexes per set. Methods. the sample analysed 135 matches played in the 2021/2022 Brazilian Women’s Superliga, with the number of matches analysed ranging from 14 and 25 matches for all teams participating in the championship. Eigenvector Centrality and Social Network Analysis conducted the connectivity and specificity of relationships as, and inferential analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a Monte Carlo correction. Results. the results showed that the highest eigenvalues were for the continuity effect, except for complex 0. Regarding the continuity effect, the eigenvalues in the first four sets were higher for complexes III, IV, and V. In the fifth set, the highest eigenvalues were close between complexes II, III, IV, and V for the continuity effect. Furthermore, the results indicated that there was no association between the sequencing of game complexes and the set played ( ² = 2470.01 and between the number of complexes and the set played ( ² = 17.63 and = 0.34, p = 0.272), nor = 0.03, p = 0.346). Conclusions. In conclusion, women’s volleyball presents gameplay strategies to sustain play, promoting game continuity, regardless of the set played. the number of game complexes required to secure a point varies between two and three game complexes. Coaches should consider the dynamics in women’s volleyball matches, preparing teams for less risky and more continuous play.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/

Impact of lower-volume training on physical fitness adaptations in team sports players: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    Get PDF
Background A small number of reviews have explored lower‑ versus higher‑volume training in non‑athletes, but the growing challenge of congested schedules in team sports highlights the need to synthesize evidence specific to team sport athletes. Thus, the objectives of this systematic review with meta‑analysis are twofold: (i) to summarize the primary physiological and physical fitness outcomes of lower‑volume versus higher‑volume training interventions in team sports players; and (ii) to compare the effects of lower‑volume training with higher, considering the training modalities used. Methods We conducted searches across key databases, including PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. We included team sports players with at least a trained or developmental level, focusing on studies comparing different training volumes (lower vs higher) within the same research. Lower volume training was defined in comparison to another load, emphasizing smaller training volume in terms of repetitions, duration, or frequency. The studies had to examine key physical performance adaptations and use two‑arm or multi‑arm designs. Methodological assessments of the included studies were performed using the Rob2 and ROBINS‑I instruments, with evidence certainty evaluated through GRADE. Results The initial search yielded 5,188 records, with 17 articles deemed eligible for the review. There was a non significant trend favoring the higher‑volume training group over the lower‑volume group in resistance‑based training when considering all pooled physical fitness outcomes (effect size − 0.05, 95% CI − 0.19 to 0.09, p = 0.506, I2 = 0.0%). A meta‑analysis was not conducted for aerobic‑based training due to only two studies being available, with one showing that lower volume training improved maximal oxygen uptake by 3.8% compared to 1.3% for higher volume, while the other indicated that lower training volumes enhanced performance by 1.6% versus 0.8%. The evidence certainty for physical performance outcomes was very low. Conclusions In newly introduced resistance training, lower volumes—regardless of repetitions or frequency—can achieve similar fitness gains to higher volumes. More pronounced tapering also appears more effective for super compensation. However, the variability in study designs and training methods makes it difficult to establish a clear minimal dose. The main contribution of this review is mapping current research, providing a foundation for future studies and training optimization. Key Points • Lower‑volume resistance training—whether by halving the number of repetitions in sessions held at least twice a week or by reducing the training frequency by half—produces similar positive adaptations in the physical performance of team sport athletes compared to higher‑volume training. • In running‑based and mixed‑based training interventions, specifically in tapering strategies, reducing volume while maintaining intensity seems to yield a more favorable response than employing a higher volume. • In tapering strategies, particularly concerning training load in field settings, more pronounced reductions in volume seem to enhance supercompensation. However, caution is warranted in interpreting this evidence, as the observed tendency could not be confirmed through meta‑analytical approaches.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/

Web-based psychoterapy and exercise interventions for depressive and anxiety disorders

    No full text
The last decade has seen a renewed recognition of the interconnection of the mental and physical well being of people living with anxiety and depression disorders. Research has assessed the impact of exercise and psychological interventions as monotherapy and complementary treatments to usual care and found considerable benefits to reduce psychiatric symptoms and improve better quality of life. There is growing interest in online interventions, and online counseling can be an alternative to traditional face-to-face therapies. Questions remain on the effectiveness and best practices to deliver such interventions. The authors identify and summarize research evaluating online psychotherapy and exercise interventions in individuals with anxiety and depression disorders. They address web-based psychotherapy interven tions and web-based exercise interventions for anxiety and depression disorders, followed by combined web-based intervention with psychotherapy and exercise, and discuss strategies to improve adherence to treatments.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel Clementeinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
