É imprescindível a produção de investigação nesta área, no intuito de comprovar a importância dos programas de enfermagem de reabilitação na resolução da incontinência urinária após o AVC.Context and Objective: Urinary incontinence has a high prevalence in patients who have experienced a stroke, especially those aged over 50 years (Cândido et al., 2017). The persistence of this dysfunction significantly affects the self-esteem and quality of life of the patients (Thomé et al., 2021; Farrés-Godayol et al., 2022). As such, it is understood that the nurse specialist in rehabilitation, identifies, diagnoses, designs, implements and evaluates rehabilitation programs (Ordem dos Enfermeiros, 2019). Thus, the intervention of this professional is essential to minimize the impact of urinary incontinence in people who have experienced a stroke. The present study aims to contribute to outlining the importance of the role a rehabilitation nurse in the management of urinary incontinence and its main objective is to: Evaluate the effect of a Rehabilitation Program in the Management of Urinary Incontinence in women after the occurrence of a stroke. Method: Multiple Case Study, quantitative method. The sample consisted of (n=5) aged between 53 and 87 years, diagnosed with urinary incontinence after a stroke. A rehabilitation program was applied for the management of urinary incontinence from the detection of urinary incontinence until the moment of clinical discharge. The evaluation was performed using the Broome Pelvic Muscle Excercise Self-Efficacy Scale and the Voiding Diary. Results: The results of the study were in line with the objectives, allowing us to conclude that in relation to urinary urgency of the 5 (100%) users in the study, 4 (80%) had urinary urgency at the beginning of the study and none at the end. The same happened with urine leakage in which 5 (100%) had urine leakage and in the end none had urine leakage. Throughout the study, the urinary frequency variable was influenced by a behavior encouraged by the rehabilitation nurse to condition the users to go to the bathroom 10 times a day. It was possible to establish a Spearman correlation showing that there are relationships between the different T-test variables for paired samples. In order to compare the values before and after the intervention, it was possible to verify that there are statistically significant differences before and after the program regarding urinary urgency [ t(4)=3.50; p=0.025; d=1.57] and urine leakage [t(4)= 4.47; p=0.011; d=2.00], concluding that in both cases there are improvements. In the application of the Broome Pelvic Muscle Excercise Self-Efficacy Scale, it was found that before the rehabilitation program, both in part A and B, all participants showed low self-efficacy in the confidence of the contraction of the pelvic muscles, except in Case 8, which showed moderate self-efficacy in the evaluation of part B. In the second evaluation, all users showed high self-efficacy in the confidence of contraction of the pelvic floor muscles. Conclusion: The rehabilitation program for the management of urinary incontinence, consisting of behavioral changes and sessions of specific rehabilitation exercises for the pelvic floor muscles had a positive effect on decreasing urinary urgency and the amount of urine lost.In addition to this, there was also a positive effect on the level of confidence in the performance of pelvic muscle contractions without leakage of urine and the level of confidence in pelvic muscle contractions to prevent involuntary leakage of urine. It is essential to produce research in this area, in order to prove the importance of rehabilitation nursing programs in the resolution of urinary incontinence after a stroke

Motor competence assessment - cultural adaptation for Brazil (MCA-BR)

    Get PDF
We adapted the Motor Competence Assessment (MCA) to Brazilian Portuguese. Two professionals proficient in Brazilian Portuguese independently translated the MCA into the Portuguese language (T1 and T2). Then, the translated version of consensus (TU) was generated. Two translators performed two back-translations in European Portuguese (BT1 and BT2) of the TU version. A new consensus process between translators and researchers resulted in a European Portuguese version (BTfinal), which was compared to the original version in search of possible semantic differences. A committee of experts, composed of a physical therapist and two physical educators to verify the content, reviewed the version of the instrument in Brazilian Portuguese (TU), called “Avaliação da Competência Motora,” which generated the second version of agreement (Tfinal). We sent the Tfinal to one of the authors of the original evaluation to verify the relevance of the Brazilian Portuguese version. After this step, 20 physical therapists and 20 physical educators verified the applicability of the evaluation model. The MCA was then culturally adapted for Brazil. It is a relevant instrument as it evaluates motor competence without age limit, and can assist in monitoring the motor development of individuals.4811-99FE-2ECD | Luis Paulo RodriguesN/

New insights on glycerol transport in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Get PDF
Previous studies evidenced in Saccharomyces cerevi-siae the activity of a H þ /glycerol symport, derepressed by growth on non-fermentable carbon sources, later associated with GUP1 and GUP2 genes. It was also demonstrated that only the combined deletion of GUP1, GUP2 together with GUT1 (glycerol kinase) abolished active transport in ethanol-induced cells. In this work, we show that a glycerol H þ /symport, with identical characteristics to the previously described, was found in gup1gup2gut1 grown under salt-stress, particularly high in cells collected during diauxic-shift. These results suggest different roles for Gup1/2p than glycerol transport. The gene encoding for glycerol active uptake is thus yet unknown.C917-B3FD-1A62 | Maria Luísa Vieira das Nevesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Developmental pathways of cardiorespiratory fitness from 6 to 15 years of age

Most of the information gathered about physical fitness of paediatric populations are cross-sectional, resulting in normative perspectives that account for average values relative to age, but not to a comprehensive understanding of developmental individual trajectories. The aim of this study was to model the longitudinal development of cardiorespiratory fitness of boys and girls from 6 to 15 years of age, using an individual centred approach. Two hundred twenty-nine school children (128 boys; 101 girls) were followed on their 20 metres shuttle run test (20mSRT) results from 6 to 15 years of age. Annual measurements were made during the four years of primary school, and again at grade 9th or 10th. Individual trajectories of 20mSRT development were modelled and grouped according to their similarities of change in three different developmental pathways that were included in subsequent hierarchical nested models for testing each sex developmental model of cardiorespiratory fitness. Final models including the developmental pathways showed better deviance statistics (p .50), meaning these models capture well the existing variability, in respect to the rate of change. Individual pathways of change in the performance of 20mSRT test can be detected in childhood and adolescence. Additionally, all individual’s developmental trajectories in 20mSRT can be described using three significantly different slopes. These pathways are indicative of a high, average, or low rate of change in performance over the years and differ from the normative approach.4811-99FE-2ECD | Luis Paulo RodriguesN/

Supply-side perspectives on outdoor tourism in the north of Portugal

    No full text
Nowadays, the tourism sector presents many opportunities and challenges. Outdoor Tourism (OT), due to the unusual situation experienced by the pandemic caused by COVID-19, maybe one of the main opportunities to promote the local development of tourist destinations. Most of the literature developed in this context has focused the demand side. Therefore, the investigation intended to fill this gap, considering the perspective of the supply side, taking into account a vision of sustainable development. To meet this gap, the main objective is to contribute to the characterization of Outdoor Tourism (OT) in the North of Portugal, and understand the potential of OT in the perspective of supply., thirty-eight tourist entertainment companies (TEC) were interviewed to assess supply and perceived customers’ motivations. Of the seven Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistical Purposes (NUTS), the Northern region was considered to be an area with enormous potential for Nature-related tourist). For the supply side, seasonality and climate were identified as important factors supporting environment preservation. Radical experiences, adventure and getting out of the routine were identified as motivating demand factors, as well as the contact with Nature and the landscape. We have also observed that if we consider the stimulation of the local economy by OT, there is still a lot to do. The evidence pointed to some social imbalance, namely related to employability. Employees were hired according to the evolution of demand, which favours unemployment and social instability. Also, the tourists/costumers are the main channels of communication of the activities; the word-ofmouth (WOM) of costumers’ experiences, personally or through online social media, takes on a prominent role. In this sense, tourists’ online reviews, testimonies and word-of-mouth can be optimized through social networks and digital marketing. Finally, to evaluate the region's potential for the OT, the interviewees suggested integrating the players involved with the OT into a single network, supporting the activities and promoting the region.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira Vieirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Background: Motor competence and health-related fitness are important components for the development and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle in children. This study examined cross-cultural performances on motor competence and health-related fitness between Portuguese and U.S. children. Methods: Portuguese (n = 508; 10.14 +/- 2.13 years , mean +/- SD) and U.S. (n = 710; 9.48 +/- 1.62 years) children performed tests of cardiorespiratory fitness (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run), upper body strength (handgrip), locomotor skill performance (standing long jump), and object projection skill performance (throwing and kicking). Portuguese and U.S. children were divided into 2 age groups (6=9 and 10=13 years) for data analysis purposes. A two=factor one=way analysis of covariance (ANOVA) was conducted with the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endur ance Run, handgrip, standing long jump scores, kicking, and throwing speed (km/h) as dependent variables. Results: Results indicated that Portuguese children, irrespective of sex, presented better performances in locomotor and cardiorespiratory performance (standing long jump and Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) than U.S. children in both age bands. U.S. children outper formed Portuguese children during throwing and handgrip tests. Kicking tests presented gender differences: Portuguese boys and U.S. girls outperformed their internationally matched counterparts. Conclusion: Cultural differences in physical education curricula and sports participation may impact differences in motor competence and fitness development in these countries.4811-99FE-2ECD | Luis Paulo RodriguesN/

Innovative board game design in an academic environment during the Covid-19 pandemic

    Get PDF
Leisure or entertainment, like other everyday needs, are fundamental activities for human well-being. The creation of activities that lead to moments of satisfaction and relaxation are also a focus of attention and one of the areas of intervention where design can contribute solutions. This project challenged a group of students on a degree course in product design to develop modern, alternative board games, centred on users and on situations and environments of use, in order to exercise the practice of product design and seek to present innovative solutions. The challenge came through a local Cultural Association, with a tradition in promoting this type of game. The project followed a design project methodology that led students through a first phase of immersion in the theme, mechanics and strategies of games and their variety, going through the generation of ideas, models, evaluation tests, to the production of prototypes. The project was subject to the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced students and teachers to work at home. To improve teaching and learning experiences, the project involved specialists and professionals who shared their knowledge and experience in developing this type of product. This gave rise to a great diversity of solutions, resulting from the use of an adequate methodology, making it possible to design new board games in which the mechanics, when articulated with a theme of interest to the target audience, can result in a proposal for an appealing and unique game.101E-1BBD-F278 | João Carlos Monteiro Martinsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Motives and beliefs of learners enrolled in adult education

    Get PDF
The present study intended to identify adult learners’ motives for enrollment, and to assess their self-determination, self- efficacy beliefs and academic self-concept in a sample of 310 adult learners attending three different types of courses (short courses; long, vocational courses; long, nonvocational courses), as well as relating these constructs to each other and assess differences according to background variables. Autonomous regulation showed a strong, positive relationship with the epistemic motive and moderate, positive relationships with self-efficacy and academic self-concept. Although learners scored high in both intrinsic and extrinsic motives, group mean comparisons revealed that some characteristics like lower qualifications, unemployment and being a male showed a stronger connection to an extrinsic orientation. These results are in line with SDT predictions about the quality of motivation and suggest that learners with the former characteristics could be more at risk of failure and drop-out. Overall this study highlights the relevance of examining motivational variables in adult learners. Considering the relatively scarce research in the field, future research should further investigate adult learners’ motivational profiles and how they relate to achievement.8C1E-AFB9-6BE1 | Maria Teresa Martins GonçalvesN/

Overstrength factors of RC bridges supported on single and multi-column RC piers in Mexico

    Get PDF
Mexico highway network has more than 14,000 bridges. Most of them are reinforced concrete (RC) structures. The bridges design process incorporates the use of an overstrength factor that is not justified and has received little attention in published works. Mexican regulations allow using an overstrength factor for buildings in the range of 2–3, to reduce the design spectra as a function of the selected seismic behavior factor. However, for bridges, a single factor of 1.5 is proposed independent of any design parameter. The bridges in Mexico are mostly simply supported structures with maximum span lengths of 50 m. A relevant and distinctive aspect of the bridges designed in Mexico is the large load amplitudes of the trucks used to define the live load and the high seismic activity in the country. This study determines overstrength factors of a family of medium-length RC bridges composed of simply supported superstructures and substructure made up of single and multi-column RC piers. Non-linear dynamic analyzes using a set of 80 accelerograms were carried out. The results show that the height of the bridges and their seismic location are relevant parameters in the overstrength of the structures. Finally, analytical expressions are proposed to assess the overstrength factors of a very common bridge typology in Mexico and the world.6612-034D-AE05 | PEDRO DA SILVA DELGADON/
