A amostra,

Hyperthyroidism in the domestic cat (Felis catus): informed treatment choice based on survival analysis
Hyperthyroidism is the most frequently diagnosed endocrine disorder in cats. Therapy may include pharmacological,
surgical (thyroidectomy), radioactive (iodine), and dietary treatment. The choice of treatment is believed to be strongly
influenced by the veterinarian’s experience, level of education, and knowledge of the current scientific literature. The
history of survival rates can affect the decision for treatment by both the veterinarian and the owner. This study aimed to
explore the longevity in cats diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and to identify significant variables which affect survival rates
by using retrospective data from the practice. A multivariate Cox regression was applied with the following results: surgical
thyroidectomy and methimazole medication produced similar longevity (median 23.5 months, P>0.05); Domestic Short
Hair cats survived longer than pure breeds (median 27.2 vs 9.4 months, P<0.05); as do cats without chronic renal disease
(median 28.1 vs 6.2 months, P<0.001); and those with low activities of alanine aminotransferase (median 27.1 vs 17.0 months,
P<0.01). Hyperthyroidism is comorbid with renal diseases, but no cumulative effect was found on survivability. There
was no difference in survival rates between surgical and pharmaceutical treatment, therefore the discussion of treatment
options with owners can focus on other factors (e.g., cost, owners’ compliance, cats’ tolerance to medication, presence of
comorbidities). We propose that surgery may be the preferred treatment when the survival rates are expected to be higher
than one year. This would avoid high costs and potential side effects of medication.0F1A-358B-43B5 | Fernando Jorge Ribeiro da MataN/
Today, food production units increasingly need to ensure the safety of products that are supplied daily to consumers. The implementation and certification of food safety management systems (SGSA) can be an effective way to achieve food safety. ISO 22000:2018 is one of the benchmarks used for the implementation of an SGSA. Including haccp (Hazard Analysis and Critical Point Control) principles and being recognized internationally are two of the many advantages of this standard. FSSC 22000 (Food Safety Systems Certification) is a food security benchmark of the Global Food Security Initiative (GFSI). FSSC 22000 is based on the ISO 22000 food management system standard, the relevant Prerequisite Program and additional requirements defined by the FSSC. The certification and audit of FSSC 22000 food safety systems allows the company to sell the products with greater safety. This ends up providing increased customer confidence, since the current consumer has become increasingly demanding.
Being Aromatic Salymies is a high-profile agricultural production company in the market, it always aims to continuously improve and, above all, meet the needs of the consumer. In addition to wanting to provide quality of the products and services provided, it also transmits trust, loyalty and safe planning. The normative references mentioned above end up supporting both internal and external requirements to the organization.
The present project work aimed to contribute to the implementation of the ISO 22000:2018 and FSSC 22000 references to the production line of aromatic herbs in cutting/vase in the company, and future certification. In this sense, and from a certification perspective the following steps have to be carried out: a) Expression of interest on the part of the company in the certification; b) Study of the framework to be implemented and survey of its requirements; (c) the system-to-system approach in order to verify what is left to implement; d) Development and implementation of the missing requirements in the company; e) Audit of the system in the company; (f) audit findings; (g) make corrections within the stipulated time limits; h) Acquisition of certification. In this context, all the necessary documentation was elaborated for the implementation of this Standard, such as process procedures, registrations, prerequisite program, operational prerequisite program, flowcharts, HACCP plan, among others.
Of all the steps mentioned, up to the moment of this work, all the steps were carried out up to the point e) "Audit" referring to the ISO 22000:2018 reference, and are still in the analysis phase for the approval of the certification. Although it was not possible to implement the FSSC 22000 Standard in the company all the documentation has been prepared and is in the implementation phase.
Thus, it is concluded that certification to the industrial company is increasingly important for companies due to the benefits it brings, since it extends market opportunities and translates the quality of services and products. As much as this is a long process, it will always have its benefits in the future of the company
The importance of neighborhood ecological assets in community dwelling old people aging outcomes: A study in Northern Portugal
Human development is a bidirectional, person-context relational process, but scarce evidence is available about the relation between the individual variability across the life-span and the neighborhood ecological assets. Therefore, it is important that research focus not only on personal characteristics but on ecological assets as well. This way this study aims to analyze the association between neighborhood ecological assets categorized into four dimensions: human, physical or institutional, social or collective activity, accessibility, and the individual functioning. A 3% sample of residents aged 65 years and older in two downtown and three uptown parishes stratified by age and sex was interviewed at home using a protocol that included the Portuguese version of the Barthel Index in basic activities of daily living (BADL), the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale (IADL), the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 items (GDS) for evaluating functionality, cognitive performance, and depression. The 162 participants were aged on average 75 years (sd = 7.0), 54% were women and 90% had less than 7 years of education. The majority of participants were independent in BADL (M = 90; sd = 17.7) and moderately dependent in IADL (M = 13, sd = 6.0), 20% showed cognitive impairment and a mean score of 8 (sd = 2.1) in GDS-15. After controlling for the effect of socio-demographic characteristics, functionality, and cognitive performance decreases in persons with worst outdoor mobility. On the other hand depressive symptoms are less common as the number of recreation opportunities, namely associative groups (cultural, educative, professional), increases. These results suggest that aging policies and practices must be ecologically embedded.E51F-89A1-B769 | Carla FariaN/

Gastrointestinal parasites as a threat to grazing sheep
Despite pressure to increase farm productivity, a tendency for animal-friendly production systems, like the one that includes grazing, is becoming more common due to an increased consumer awareness of animal welfare. Pasture is generally the main food source for these animals. Grazing sheep are therefore exposed to a huge diversity of parasites. These parasites impact
greatly on animal health, welfare and productivity, and can be responsible for high economic losses due to delayed development of lambs and low productivity levels of adult sheep, which can be especially threatening in endangered breeds. Nematodes of the genera Haemonchus, Trichostrongylus, Teladorsagia, Cooperia and Nematodirus can cause serious health problems in sheep. Haemonchus contortus is responsible for the main health problems in sheep, and represents a significant cause of mortality worldwide. Nematodirus battus is a common cause of lamb diarrhoea. Some trematodes, besides affecting animal health, are zoonotic and may have health implications for farmers and local communities. Prophylaxis plans are essential in order to keep acceptable infection levels. A detailed knowledge of parasite species involved, as well as their burden and prevalence, is necessary. Pasture management should be a primary tool to control parasites. Integration of more than one measure like good
farming practices, and appropriate biological control measures is essential to achieve the sustainable control on the parasites. Anti-parasitic drugs are still an important part of parasite control in grazing sheep. Consumers worry about the quality of meat as well as about the animal welfare, but studies of the effects of parasites are scarce, and there is a concern that grazing management systems increase the prevalence of parasites. The question is whether to choose less productive breeds but well adapted to the local environmental conditions (autochthonous breeds) and more resistant to parasites, or high productive breeds but not adapted to the local environment and its parasites. The aim of this review was to understand the current situation of the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in grazing sheep, and the consequences on sheep management and the effects on meat quality.A91F-E8B8-FA62 | Teresa Susana Letra MateusN/
The development of a professional internship allows nurses who attend master's courses to complement their academic training by exercising a professional activity and/or developing activities that privilege real contact with the context of the intervention and with the receptor of care in an area of specialization. In this assumption, the internship was developed in an emergency service that corresponds to a care service in the area of medical-surgical nursing, in the field of nursing for the person in a critical situation.
This document constitutes the final report where the activities developed and the acquired professional competences are reported, which generally fall into four essential domains for a specialized care practice: care provision, care management and clinical governance, training and research.
For a better factual organization, it was decided to divide this document into two parts. The first part, entitled “Caring for the Person in Critical Situation – from Training to Learning in a Clinical Context”, contextualizes the ENP and critically analyzes and reflects the activities carried out in the scope of care delivery, care management and clinical governance and training. The second part of this document reveals the investigative path carried out during the internship inserted in the theme "The Experiences of the Patient's Family in the Emergency Service in the Pandemic". In order to understand the experiences of the patient's family in the emergency department during the pandemic – the general objective of this study – a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study was chosen. Access to participants (family members) occurred through a non-probabilistic convenience sampling process. For this purpose, data were collected from the family of the patient admitted to the emergency department using semi-structured interviews. The content analysis carried out reveals that most family members attributed a negative meaning to the experience. Obtaining information, having comfort, being close, having support and feeling safe were the five categories of needs felt and identified in the study, with the pandemic worsening their satisfaction. The impact of restricting follow-up as a measure imposed by the pandemic situation had a negative impact related to the patient, namely the risk of adverse events, lack of support, satisfaction of basic needs and the feeling of abandonment, and related to the family, namely in access to information, in the management of uncertainty, in the role of companion and in communication with the patient. The importance of nurses in welcoming the patient and family and also in involving the family as the focus of nursing care was highlighted. Providing information and providing support were the nursing interventions suggested by the participants. Suggestions for improvement focused on optimizing communication, establishing greater contact with family members, creating a space for family members and adapting the rules for visits and companions
Preferences for urban green space characteristics: a comparative study in three portuguese cities
Many studies have argued that a better understanding of people’s preferences about public
urban green spaces may inform urban planners to effectively provide and manage urban green spaces
to meet users’ needs. The aim of this study is to examine urban residents preferred public green
space characteristics and investigate whether similarities and differences can be highlighted in three
different Portuguese cities. Through a web-based questionnaire based on the best-worst scaling
(BWS) method, residents of Lisbon, Porto and Évora (n = 750) were asked to select the most and
least important public green space characteristic among thirteen attributes. The results suggest a
consensus about some green space characteristics across cities but also the existence of some local
variations in city residents’ preferences. Overall, this study can support public authorities and urban
planners as they strive to effectively design and manage urban green spaces to meet users’ needs.0119-47CC-D459 | Teresa Cristina Fernandes Ferreira MadureiraN/
Efficacy of Bacillus subtilis for the control of Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae under field conditions
Bacterial canker of kiwifruit, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae
(Psa), is a disease included on the EPPO A2 List because it is currently increasing in
the Mediterranean region. Climatic conditions determine the multiplication and
dispersal behavior of Psa and may influence its biological control (BC). However,
information regarding the influence of climatic conditions on growth of the Psa
bacterium in Portugal is scarce. The aims of this study were to relate the climatic
conditions with the efficacy of Bacillus subtilis Serenade Max® in controlling the
disease, to determine whether disease incidence increased over the growing season,
and to monitor carry-over of disease from one season to the next. Two ‘Hayward’
orchards of Actinidia deliciosa of different ages, located in Valença, in the north of
Portugal, were selected for BC assay. Thirty plants were randomly selected from a
young orchard (6 years old) and another 30 plants from an old one (30 years old). Psa
was identified and characterized by morphological, biochemical and molecular tests.
The efficacy of B. subtilis was evaluated by disease incidence, and correlated to
climatic conditions. A standardized leaf infection index (0-4 scale of symptoms) was
used to determine disease severity. Monitoring of Psa symptoms was performed every
30 days, from June 2016 to April 2017. The severity of the disease decreased in the
summer season, characterized by unfavorable conditions for Psa such as high
temperatures and scarce precipitation. B. subtilis was partially effective in controlling
Psa in the 6-year-old orchard, and showed no efficacy in the protection of leaves in the
30-year-old orchard. B. subtilis applied at flowering could be considered as a suitable
solution for the control of Psa biovar 3 only for the new kiwifruit orchard (6 years old).6B1D-516F-1A2A | Luís Miguel Cortez Mesquita de BritoN/
