Lean marketing: application of the lean six sigma to marketing: case study

    No full text
The main objective of this work is to implement tools capable of improving the efficiency of production and internal management with a view to improving customer service. To do so, it is necessary to analyze the current processes, identify the points that can be improved and only then adopt the solutions that best serve the objectives to be achieved. As methodology, we elaborated an application plan in a metal-mechanic company that aimed to study the processes related to marketing and the relationship with the clients of this company. In this way, we verified the applicability of Lean Six Sigma for improvements in marketing and customer relationship. Of the most relevant aspects of the work that allowed us to analyze the current functioning of the company, we highlight the creation of a questionnaire for customers. From the analysis, it was possible to verify the weak points of the processes and of the relationship with customers, which allowed the adoption and implementation of tools proposed by the Lean Six Sigma philosophies. The tools, namely CRM, daily meetings (Daily Kaizen) among others, allowed improving the internal communication between the various departments and aspects such as the time between the contact with the client and the preparation of proposals.C817-2663-8B86 | Manuel Joaquim de Sousa PereiraN/

    Get PDF

This document is a report that aims to describe the project conducted in the context of a curricular internship in order to complete the Master's in Logistics. The internship took place in the logistics offices of the Browning Arms Company in Viana, integrate of the firearms market, weapons accessories, equipment for the practice of shooting and hunting. It is known that currently all markets have a very painful bureaucratic burden and when it comes to weapons, the scenario is in fact more detailed and demanding. In addition, this market is in constant expansion, in simple way of talking nowadays this company market feeds on its imports and survives through exports, as such, it is imperative to ensure fluid internal and external processes. Browning was limited by the lack of strategic procedures together with the existence of unnecessary tasks in today's market. The aim was essentially to identify tasks with no added value, as well as the design of improvement proposals for the correction and modernization of export and import procedures. Initially, the export and import flowchart, previously non-existent, was designed and all the constituent elements of these processes were collected in detail. Afterwards, improvement proposals were given, and a possible flowchart was designed after implementing some proposals. Most of them aim to improve the information’s transmission, the tasks to be conducted in the day-to-day activities of employees, the procedures efficiency and the resources use. Furthermore, was analyzed the SERONLINE website services, as well as the ones MacWin software provides, the latter two being also fundamental pillars for the design of proposals. Finally, several fields to be explored and worked on were also enumerated

The trade-off between international accounting convergence and IFRS in-country adjustments

    No full text
The problem of reaching international accounting convergence has enticed voluminous research, and evidence suggests that adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or IFRS-based accounting models, per se, may be insufficient. Institutionalists underline the possibility of decoupling. This has motivated the preparation of this longitudinal and qualitative study using Portugal as an exemplar, to assess the perceptions of tax officials towards the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) model and, more particularly, the perceived need to adjust IFRS to different national contexts and cultural traditions. Interviews with nine tax officials were conducted at two strategic moments: in 2009, just before formal adoption of an IFRS-based model in Portugal, in force from 1 January 2010 onwards; and in 2017, one year after the IFRS model adopted had already undergone a second round of in-country adaptations. The results obtained in this study suggest high receptivity towards IFRS adjustments when applied to the Portuguese accounting system, despite some individuals surveyed acknowledged a negative impact on the convergence of national standards with IFRS. The perceived need to overcome important national constraints on the adoption of IFRS in Portugal appeared to overpower the pursuit of an ideology of de facto convergence, which is, arguably, compatible with the phenomenon of decoupling.BA16-BE06-B89C | Ana Paula Martins da SilvaN/

A review on recent advances in implanted medical devices security

    Get PDF
The Implanted Medical Devices (IMD) industry has grown over the past few decades and is expected to grow in the coming ones. Being an asset for the health and quality of life of a patient, the availability of IMD-related products, their increasing complexity and advances in communication capabilities do not seem to have been seamlessly accompanied by cybersecurity concerns. Recent IMD can be integrated in the concept of IoT (Internet of Things) and thus, they are also exposed to attacks impacting on privacy and, above all, on the health and even the life of the device users. While in an early stage of the IMD development, the security procedures were based on the existing classic protocols and models and their functional capabilities were the focus of development, recent efforts have been made to address security from the start. In this paper we review the most recent contributions on the cybersecurity of IMD products and we highlight innovative ideas that represent new design and development paradigms of these devices next generations. In this review it is reinforced that the technological evolution and the progressive access of attackers to resources capable of exploiting multiple vulnerabilities can have a crucial impact in the IMD already implanted in the patient's body, designed to remain in operation for many years. Also, it brings the need to develop novel and robust protocols to guarantee security compatible with constrained computing resources and extremely low energy requirements to be feasible. Finally, the security and privacy concerns regarding this kind of devices should be addressed in the design phase and policies must move from damage mitigation to threat prevention.5311-8814-F0ED | Sara Maria da Cruz Maia de Oliveira PaivaN/

    No full text

On a 2-orthogonal polynomial sequence via quadratic decomposition

    No full text
We apply a symbolic approach of the general quadratic decomposition of polynomial sequences— presented in a previous article referenced herein—to polynomial sequences fulfilling specific orthogonal conditions towards two given functionals u0, u1 belonging to the dual of the vector space of polynomials with coefficients in C. The general quadratic decomposition produces four new sets of polynomials whose properties are investigated with the help of the mentioned symbolic approach together with further commands which inquire relevant features, as for instance, the classical character of a polynomial sequence. The computational results are detailed for a wide range of choices of parameters and co-recursive type polynomial sequences are also explored.4516-0A1C-E9CD | Teresa Augusta MesquitaN/

Around operators not increasing the degree of polynomials

    No full text
We present a generic operator J defined on the vectorial space of polynomial functions and we address the problem of finding the polynomial sequences that coincide with the (normalized) J-image of themselves. The technique developed assembles different types of operators and initiates with a transposition of the problem to the dual space. We provide examples for a J limited to three terms.4516-0A1C-E9CD | Teresa Augusta MesquitaN/

GRIDDS - a gait recognition image and depth dataset

    No full text
Several approaches based on human gait have been proposed in the literature, either for medical research reasons, smart surveillance, human-machine interaction, or other purposes, whose validation highly depends on the access to common input data through available datasets, enabling a coherent performance comparison. The advent of depth sensors leveraged the emergence of novel approaches and, consequently, the usage of new datasets. In this work we present the GRIDDS - A Gait Recognition Image and Depth Dataset, a new and publicly available gait depth-based dataset that can be used mostly for person and gender recognition purposes.1419-E47A-DF81 | João Ferreira NunesN/

Over the years there has been a close proximity between human and cat as more and more human acquires this species as a pet. Cats are hosts of many parasites and some of them with zoonotic potential which requires greater prophylactic and hygienic care. Although the theme of parasitosis is important and is repeatedly spoken, in Portugal there are still few studies on it, by which a prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in felines the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia was carried out. To this end, 102 fecal samples were collected distributed in the parishes of the municipality between the months of September 2021 and January 2022. The samples were submitted to qualitative coprological technical analyses: sedimentation method and Willis fluctuation method. The overall prevalence of positive fecal samples was 21.56%, and the most prevalent parasites were Toxocara cati (10.78%), followed by those of the genus Ancylostomatidae (5.88%) and Cystoisospora (5.88%). The results show that there is a degree of parasitism at the sites of origin of the samples collected, for the potentially zoonotic genera studied. This degree of parasitism can be justified by the excessive number of animals, in the case of associations and kennels, and their consequent proximity, which facilitates the transmission of parasites with direct life cycles or through paratenic hosts. I tis essential to continue to instill to owners/tutors a strong awareness and education for the importance of vaccination and deworming of their animals. So, it is expected that in this way animal health and welfare will be favored through the implementation of prophylactic and control measures, which should be developed with associations/kennels as well as tutors in order to eradicate parasitoses
