Is greenwashing a common practice in energy market?

    No full text
The need for meeting energy needs but at the same time reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) produced by primary energy sources has raised a wide range of concerns for different for industrial activities. Nonetheless, the development of the green marketing strategies over the year has drawn attention to a new phenomenon, namely the Greenwashing. This research attempts to contribute to analyze the use of greenwashing practices in companies’ operating in the regulated energy market. Results from the content analysis showed that practices of greenwashing are not generalizable to the sample observed. However, for some companies these practices were evidenced.691D-6753-BE59 | Manuel José Serra da Fonsecainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

ABSTRACT: Based on the assumption that learning is an active enterprise, whether physical or intellectual, and that not all students learn in the same way, some seeing, others listening, others moving, an exploratory study of a qualitative nature, in the context of the initial training of teachers of basic education, where we privileged a teaching which involved tasks involving the manipulation of a sheet of paper, collaborative work, mathematical communication and problem solving. It was in- tended to identify the relevance of this approach to future teachers and the main difficulties related to the proposed tasks. Several difficulties were identified in terms of mathematical communication and manipulation of the sheet of paper, as it was possible to identify a lack of visual skills in a large part of the students (future teachers), but they reacted positively to the tasks, expressing interest, motivation and recognition of its importance in mathematical learning at any level.0D1E-4824-1244 | Ana Cristina Coelho Barbosainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Solving problems using the engineering design process through a steam perspective

    Get PDF
International recommendations emphasize the importance of STEAM education in preparing students to deal with new and complex social, economic and environmental challenges. The approach to STEAM education can involve the use of engineering design, starting from problems of reality that enable the articulated mobilization of concepts from various disciplinary areas, promoting interdisciplinary, where teamwork and context play a fundamental role. We report a study, with future teachers of elementary education, which aims to understand and characterize the learning and reactions underlying the use of engineering design in solving problems of a STEAM nature. The participants worked in small groups to solve problems that involved the application of design/redesign processes, mainly based on knowledge of mathematics and physical sciences. A qualitative methodology was adopted and data were collected through observation, collection of documents, artefacts and photographic records. Preliminary results show that the participants valued the experience, having had the opportunity to solve reality problems collaboratively, mobilizing concepts of mathematics and physical sciences in an integrated way. The participants showed great engagement, persistence and motivation in solving the proposed problem, being able to create a model that fulfilled the requested conditions. From the participants' point of view, this approach constituted an opportunity to favour the establishment of connections between different disciplinary areas. Difficulties were detected in the identification of some concepts from mathematics and physical sciences and in the mobilization of adequate scientific language in explaining the reasoning underlying their decisions.0D1E-4824-1244 | Ana Cristina Coelho Barbosainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Cooperation as a basic strategy for new dynamics of a cross-border destination: the case of the euroregion Galicia and northern Portugal

    No full text
Cooperation is a strategy increasingly used in the tourism sector, as it can enhance cross-border tourism, including in regions characterised by historical singularities, social and institutional relations, which are presently facing challenges arising from the current pandemic situation. Thus, this study, based on the case of the Iberian Euroregion Galicia and Northern Portugal, aims to analyse takeholders’ perceptions of cooperation as a strategy to enhance the dynamism of a common tourist destination, consisting of two regions. To meet the objectives of the study, eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with Euroregion stakeholders from the public and private tourism sector, which allowed access to their vision on the need to create a common marketing strategy for the tourist destination Galicia and Northern Portugal. The results of this study have practical implications as they allow the identification of marketing strategies and actions for the enhancement of the Iberian tourist destination under analysis. At the end of the chapter, the limitations of the study will be presented, as well as lines of investigation for future research.691D-6753-BE59 | Manuel José Serra da Fonsecainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Mathematical problems: the advantages of visual strategies

    Get PDF
The rapid evolution of today’s world requires that all students have access to an education that values creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. It means motivating students to use multiple strategies when solving a problem, including the visual ones as an important support in solving all kinds of problems, including those in which the visual component is not evident. So, teachers should include practices that lead students to think visually and develop this ability through experiences that require such way of thinking. In this context, we discuss the advantages of using visual strategies when solving problems with multiple approaches, illustrating those ideas with some examples.0D1E-4824-1244 | Ana Cristina Coelho Barbosainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Tens correio! A comunicação escrita e o feedback na aula de matemática

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: This paper reports part of an ongoing study that aims to understand and characterize the written communication of future teachers in a context of a penpal experience with elementary school students, in particular the nature of the feedback. The participants were seven students of a teacher education course who interacted with the 3rd graders through letters. A qualitative methodology was chosen and data was collected through observation, written productions and interviews. The results show that the future teachers valued this experience, seeing it as useful and effective in the development of written communication. They had the opportunity to identify aspects that need more attention, such as the adequacy of the discourse, the need to know the curricular guidelines and the importance of knowing the educational context. The type of feedback was diversified, trying to meet the characteristics of evaluative writing.0D1E-4824-1244 | Ana Cristina Coelho Barbosainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Exploring the relationship between the length of stay and various determinants at one of the best european destinations

    Get PDF
Studies scrutinizing the tangible and intangible factors regarding the length of stay (LOS) in a destination are rare. The emotional factors have not always been integrated into this analysis. We have contributed to fill this gap in the literature considering the degree of happiness with the tourist destination. We used a sample of 1253 tourists and three regression models were estimated (OLS regression model, a Weibull survival model and a zero-truncated negative binomial) to study the LOS. We verified that the emotional factor related with happiness affects the LOS. Furthermore, regarding the managerial/practical implications it is important to highlight that the tourists who intend to visit the city have gastronomic and wine experiences, and, through their contact with the cultural heritage of the city, they will stay for a longer period of time. In addition to economic factors, as expenditures, there are also emotional and experiential aspects that influence LOS and these have to be included in the communication of a tourist destination. The attributes of a destination are not enough to influence the LOS. The destination must also be a set of experiences that will increase the happiness of the tourist with the destination.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira VieiraN/

Digital dematerialisation in the portuguese tax system

    No full text
The importance of the digital dimension of the world has been transforming society, in many domains, increasingly so. The tax system felt the need to follow this tendency, and over the last decades, Portuguese companies were obliged to adapt to this new reality as their routines underwent several changes thereof. The Portuguese case study is of particular relevance since it is widely acknowledged it has pioneered cutting edge dematerialization, and in this regard, it has also been taken as a model by other countries which are now replicating some long-taken Portuguese initiatives towards such dematerialization. That process represents an important step in the relationship between taxpayers and the Tax Authority because it increases the tax information’s security. This paper provides a critical review of the main dimensions of digital dematerialization in the Portuguese jurisdiction. Starting from the deductive method of literature review, which covers the doctrine, the legislation, and the jurisprudence, this paper includes practical exercises whereby we demonstrate the tightness of the tax calendar companies struggle with, somehow counterbalanced by the easiness at which declarations may be submitted. The control by Tax Administration has been increasingly tighter, to the extent that a particular terror climate has been laid down, in an attempt to act as an effective deterrent of companies’ tax evasion.BA16-BE06-B89C | Ana Paula Martins da Silvainfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
