This study aimed to analyse the impact of an 8-week core strength training (CST) programme in youth karate practitioners on core endurance, agility, flexibility, sprinting, jumping, and kick performance. This study followed a randomized parallel design. Twenty-nine participants (age: 12.86 ± 0.81 years old; height: 152.55 ± 10.37 cm; weight: 42.93 ± 8.85 kg) were allocated to a CST programme (n = 16) performed thrice weekly or to a control group (n = 13) only performing the sport-specific (karate) training. Participants were assessed three times (baseline, mid and post-intervention) for the following tests: (i) flexor endurance test (FET); (ii) back extensor test (BET); (iii) lateral musculature test (LMT); (iv) flexibility; (v) chance of direction (COD); (vi) countermovement jump (CMJ); (vii) back muscle strength (BMS); (viii) horizontal jump (LJ); (ix) sprint test; and (x) karate kick test (KKT). Between-group analysis revealed significant advantages for the CST group on the FET (p 0.05). The within-group changes revealed significant improvements in the CST group at flexibility (p = 0.002), COD (p < 0.001), CMJ (p < 0.001), BMS (p < 0.002), 20 m sprint (p = 0.033), and KKT (p < 0.001). In addition, within-group changes in the control group were also significant in flexibility (p = 0.024) and right kick (p < 0.042). We conclude that the CST programme improves core endurance and karate kick performance; however, it is not effective enough for other physical performance parameters in KR practitioners.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/

Acknowledging the importance of teacher educators being highly involved in education research in higher education, a study was conducted that characterizes the research profile of these teachers who in Portugal are responsible for curricular units strongly related to teaching practices. As a methodological procedure, CVs were analysed of all who teach courses, both in private and public institutions, for basic and secondary education, i.e. teachers to teach from the first to the twelfth grade of schooling. The data of this documentary analysis, treated by simple statistics, was complemented by case studies, where course coordinators were interviewed. The reports of the interviewees were interpreted through content analysis. Among other aspects, it was focused on participation in research projects and publications. The results show that, in general, involvement in research is low as well as the number of publications, especially in journals indexed in Scopus or on the Web of Science. This situation is justified by the lack of conditions for teacher educators to have time to conduct research, which shows the need for higher education institutions to invest in situations that contribute to professional development activities in association with research related to professional practice.

This investigation aims to explore design’s role in scope of fashion accessories, developing products that presents low environmental impact and are culture carriers. The phenomenon of the Covid-19 pandemic caused numerous consequences – economic, political, social and environmental crises – and made companies and consumers to act with thoughtfulness and to change their behaviours, consumption, decisions, opting for sustainable solutions. On the one hand, climate change, the loss of biodiversity and the existence of waste guided this study to reuse textile waste from a manufacturing entity, converting them in useful materials to apply in a new scenario. On the other hand, the development of a product that transmits the spirit of place can compose and assemble a collective action of multiple players – designers, artisans, entrepreneurs – determining design as a cooperation syllabus and that connects cultural, symbolic, productive, distributive factors. Design assumes both the role of culture carrier and the responsibility of contributing to the continuity and reinvention of local productive activities, taking advantage of creativity. The methodology is interventionist and non-interventionist with a qualitative basis. The interventionist phase consists in ‘design-by-drawing’ method (Jones, 1992) through drawing of the theme to be represented and narrate the spirit of place. This choice is based on the possibility of reinventing the past, with a selection and optimization of characteristic elements that embody the place’s culture to be treated, conjugating with visual attributes of the form, that end up referring to the place and, therefore, denote identity to products. In practical terms, this investigation benefits from a partnership with the company Tintex Textiles – based in Vila Nova de Cerveira – which mainly produces circular fabrics with productive processes of low environmental impact. To conclude, with this study it is intended to demonstrate design’s importance in the development of new products and strengthen culture values, contributing to the survival of textile industry and the evolution and permanency of local productive activities. This investigation adds to the growth of low environmental impact solutions, products which are materialised taking into account the use of materials and sustainable productive processes

The purpose of this study was to prospectively monitor and analyze injuries in Greek amateur male soccer players over one competitive season. One hundred and thirty male soccer players in a regional amateur league participated in this study. Injury data and exposure were collected from six teams during training and competition match over one season (2018/19). Injuries were collected weekly and were classified by setting, mechanism, severity, type, calendar distribution, period of injury occurrence, and anatomical location. A total of 103 injuries were recorded during the season, with an incident rate (IR) of 5.5 injuries/1000 h with 95% confidence intervals (CI) values of 4.45 (lower limit) and 6.09 (upper limit). Furthermore, IR was greater for the posterior thigh (IR 1.83/1000 h, 95% CI 1.21–2.44) and hip/groin complex (IR 1.45/1000 h, 95% CI 0.90–1.99) compared to other anatomical locations. Similarly, muscle injuries had greater IR (IR 3.61/1000 h, 95% CI 2.74–4.47) than other tissues. Amateur soccer players had a seven-fold greater chance of getting injured during games (IR 20.76/1000 h, 95% CI 15.28–26.24) rather than during training (IR 3.077/1000 h, 95% CI healthcare11030352 2.16–3.80), while injury rates were higher towards the end of a session and peaked in October and February of the season. Based on these results, amateur soccer may benefit from injury prevention strategies incorporated into their regular training practice and focus on muscle injuries, especially in the posterior thigh and the hip/groin complex.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/

Our aim in this study was to analyze: (i) the presence of the relative age effect (RAE) on the Brazilian elite female futsal athletes according to their team’s final position in the National Championship, and (ii) the relationship between the presence of the RAE and the athletes’ tactical individual performance. Participants were 77 female Brazilian elite futsal athletes that competed in the 2021 National Championship. Data included their dates of birth aggrupation by quartiles (Q1-Q4), their team’s final position in the National Championship, and their tactical individual performance indicators (time played, goals scored, assists, steals, shots on goal, unbalanced passes, and challenges won in 1vs1). Analyses of the overall sample indicated that RAE was not prevalent in this context since the observed birthdate distribution was not different from the expected one (p=.796). When the final placement in the championship was considered, the birthdate distributions were also not different from the expected for both the top-ranked (p=.572) and low-ranked (p=.679) team athletes. Regarding athletes’ tactical individual performance, no differences were found between the athletes with early and late birthdates for any of the variables analysed (p>.05). Our results suggest that RAE has no impact on this specific sport context, which should be interpreted as a positive factor since female futsal athletes seem to have the same chance of achieving the elite level in Brazil, regardless of their birthdates.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/

ABSTRACT: Political changes introduced in Portugal by the Bologna Process accentuated the complexity of the challenges in higher education and teachers’ initial training. The commitment assumed for the creation of the European Space for Higher Education justified the reliance on comparable criteria to guarantee quality (SANTOS, 2011) and the introduction of procedures to promote improvement. The article analyzes the role of institutional evaluation in guaranteeing the desired quality. Therefore, we used either the data from the Portuguese legislation, or other documents, to place it in the transnational context. The opinions of professors directly involved in the organization of courses for the initial teacher education, obtained using a questionnaire, were also used. Analysis of these data allowed the conclusion that there is a relationship between evaluation and the improvement of the training offered to students, the future teachers.A11D-C969-8086 | Maria de Fátima de Sousa Pereirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The purpose of this study was to understand the differences between male and female motivations and experiences of being football referee. A semi-structure qualitative interview was made to eighth football referees (4 male and 4 female) with ages between 19 and 27 years (23.4±3.10). The participants were refereeing regional and national Portuguese football matches. In the content analysis emerged two components (Experiences and Motivations) and for each component six and four categories respectively. Results demonstrated that female referees are perceived as capable of the same achievement than men. In the first stages of refereeing career, female and male presents similar motivations regarding the development of different capabilities (focus; decision-making; leading with pressure; conflict management) and the most important relevant being passion for the game. However, the sexism is still felt by women which have to lead with more stereotypes and phycological abuse of a men dominant sports. Consequently the feeling that have to work harder than men to achieve their goals.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/

Perceptions of portuguese about romania as a rural tourist destination

    No full text
Tourism has an important role in the former socialist East European Countries, with ideologists believing that travel and tourism have a positive feedback by diminishing the monotony and routine of employment. Romania has long been an important tourist destination, but interest in tourism in rural tourism has onlydeveloped strongly in recent years in the context of economic restructuring and land restitution. This paper examines the perceptions that potential Portuguese visitors might have about Romania, as a rural tourist destination. A set of a preliminary findings based on the Optour Project are presented.8014-1B5A-933A | Goretti SilvaN/

Are sEMG, velocity and power influenced by athletes’ fixation in paralympic powerlifting?

    Get PDF
The bench press is performed in parapowerlifting with the back, shoulders, buttocks, legs and heels extended over the bench, and the use of straps to secure the athlete to the bench is optional. Thus, the study evaluated muscle activation, surface electromyography (sEMG), maximum velocity (MaxV) and mean propulsive velocity (MPV), and power in paralympic powerlifting athletes under conditions tied or untied to the bench. Fifteen experienced Paralympic powerlifting male athletes (22.27 10.30years, 78.5 21.6kg)tookpartintheresearch. The sEMGmeasurementwasperformed in the sternal portion of the pectoralis major (PMES), anterior deltoid (AD), long head of the triceps brachii (TRI) and clavicular portion of the pectoralis major (PMCL). The MaxV, MPV and power were evaluated using an encoder. Loads of 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% 1RM were analyzed under untied and tied conditions. No differences were found in muscle activation between the tied and untied conditions; however, sEMG showed differences in the untied condition between AD and TRI (F (3112) = 4.484; p = 0.005) in the 100% 1RM load, between PMCL and AD (F (3112) = 3.743; p = 0.013) in 60%1RMloadandinthetied condition, between the PMES and the AD (F (3112) = 4.067; p = 0.009). There were differences in MaxV (F (3112) = 213.3; p < 0.001), and MPV (F (3112) = 248.2; p < 0.001), between all loads in the tied and untied condition. In power, the load of 100% 1RM differed from all other relative loads (F (3112) = 36.54; p < 0.001) in both conditions. The tied condition seems to favor muscle activation, sEMG, and velocity over the untied condition.9E1A-F9DD-3EB8 | Filipe Manuel ClementeN/
