ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND THE INTERPRETATIVE POSSIBILITIES OF THE PERIÁ RIVER IN PRIMEIRA CRUZ/MA THROUGH MENTAL MAPS
The present research aimed to understand the interpretative possibilities of Rio Periá in Primeira Cruz/MA for environmental education through mental maps. This activity was carried out at Leôncio Rodrigues Municipal School in the municipality of Primeira Cruz/MA, with 8th-grade students in elementary school. Mental maps play a significant role in the geographical interpretation of a place because they represent our subjective and individual understanding of the environment in which we live. Some mental maps created by the students were selected for analysis in order to help organize information, understand spatial patterns, and make decisions based on spatial reasoning. On-site visits to the study area were conducted, along with interviews with parents and neighbours, and the presentation of old and current photographs to complement the ideas expressed in the drawings. By applying this approach to Rio Periá, it was possible to identify how the students understand the causes and impacts on the city\u27s waterfront due to the tides influencing the river, as well as possible solutions to mitigate these problems. Furthermore, it provided a deeper understanding of the natural and cultural elements associated with the river, such as local biodiversity, livelihood activities, and the traditions of riverside communities
Asymmetric Analysis of Brazil-China and Brazil-US Bilateral Trade Flows
This study investigates the asymmetric impacts of real bilateral exchange rate volatility on Brazil’s export and import flows. The analysis focuses on Brazil’s trade with the United States and China, disaggregated by two-digit industry classifications (99 sectors), covering the period from 2000 to 2017. The main findings reveal asymmetries in both exports and imports: 12.12% and 9.09%, respectively, in Brazil–US trade; and 10.10% and 8.08%, respectively, in Brazil–China trade. This study investigates the asymmetric impacts of real bilateral exchange rate volatility on Brazil’s export and import flows. Institutions, Democracy, and Fiscal Outcomes in Latin America
This article examines the relationship between institutional and democratic indicators and fiscal behavior in Latin American countries. The study reveals that democratic conditions affect not only expenditure patterns but also public debt levels. Furthermore, debt levels are influenced by other political-institutional framework characteristics. The results suggest that democratic advancement in Latin America has the potential to curb the scale of State intervention in the region’s economies and to provide the stability needed to reduce public debt and improve fiscal performance. This article examines the relationship between institutional and democratic indicators and fiscal behavior in Latin American countries. The Trajectory of Douglass North’s Institutionalist Economic Thought: an interpretation of theoretical and analytical mutations and aggregations
This article proposes an analytical presentation of the systemic theoretical framework developed by Douglass North. Drawing on his seminal works from 1981, 1990, and 2005, we show how North incorporates heterodox theoretical and analytical categories into the orthodox foundations of economics in order to better explain the phenomena surrounding development. Beyond the categories present in the mainstream approach, he integrates into his explanatory framework more consistent variables such as allocative efficiency, procedural rationality, uncertainty, learning, path dependence, and belief, among others. Finally, North emphasizes the role of institutions as promoters of freedom—and, in turn, of economic change. Ney Matogrosso, from a snail to a neanderthal man
This article is a historical and critical analysis of his first album in this new phase and of the show “Água do Céu – Pássaro”, which marked the 50th anniversary of its release. Produced and executed as a conceptual work, permeated by the resonances of performance art, this avantgarde work released in 1975 used artistic procedures that involved the sound, scenography, costumes and ambience of the show. Still resonating as innovative today, the record occupies a prominent role in the Brazilian discography of the 20th century
Spatial dispute and political participation in twenty years of community cultural management of Teatro Comunitario de Berisso (Buenos Aires)
This work analyzes the devices for constructing territorial power deployed by the Berisso Community Theater group (province of Buenos Aires, Argentina) in its twenty years of community cultural management. Specifically, the strategies developed in the dispute over the appropriation and construction of space, the types of relationships that the group establishes with the different actors of the local political and cultural fabric and their participation in public cultural policies are studied. We used a transdisciplinary theoretical scaffolding with contributions from sociology, cultural policies, cultural management, history and the field of community, theater studies and a qualitative methodology that included field records such as in-depth interviews with group leaders and documentary analysis. Along these lines, this work seeks to provide new interpretative keys to understand the processes of community cultural management in urban territories
