    Exploring Health Professionals\u27 Preparedness and Knowledge for Electronic Medical Record System Implementation in Hospitals

    Health professionals use Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems better to deliver healthcare services and enhance operational efficiency and patient safety as well as data management capabilities. EMR system implementation success depends mostly on health professional readiness and expertise because these professionals remain as the critical users of the system. The research evaluates how health personnel prepare and understand EMR hospital implementations. A total of 167 health professionals participated, and the questionnaire was pretested on a small sample to ensure clarity, reliability, and validity before full-scale implementation. IBM SPSS version 26.0 was used to examine the data and statistical techniques such as regression analysis, T-tests, and descriptive statistics were used. These methods were used to assess important elements influencing the adoption of EMRs, such as the readiness of healthcare professionals for system integration, their understanding of EMRs, their attitudes and perspectives, implementation obstacles, and their general level of preparedness. Findings revealed that only 25.3% of health professionals demonstrated high preparedness, while 26.6% had good knowledge of EMRs. Although 58.2% viewed EMRs positively, 40.7% expressed concerns, with 28.4% citing increased workload and 24.1% highlighting data security risks. Key barriers to EMR adoption included limited Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training, poor infrastructure, and resistance to change. The research found that readiness for EMR adoption was 54.2%, significantly influenced by postgraduate education (p < 0.01) and EMR knowledge. Hospital staff needs developed organizational strategies and consistent technical assistance along with well-designed training programs to correctly adopt EMR systems

    Telemedicine-Enabled Blood Glucose Monitoring as an Effective Strategy for Reducing Hypoglycaemia Risk in Diabetes

    Hypoglycaemia remains an important hazard in Diabetes Mellitus (DM) management, causing severe health problems and reduced Quality of Life (QoL). Traditional monitoring systems often need the concurrent response essential to efficiently mitigate hypoglycaemic incidents. Telemedicine-enabled Blood Glucose (BG) monitoring incorporates innovative technology with remote healthcare access, offering an advanced solution for enhancing glycemic outcomes. The research evaluates the influence of telemedicine-enabled BG monitoring on reducing hypo-glycaemia risk, glycemic variability, and improving overall diabetes management effects. A total of 83 individuals with DMT1 and DMT2 are included. Participants are split into two cohorts: the intervention cohort utilized telemedicine-enabled constant glucose monitoring methods, while the control cohort employed standard monitoring techniques. The intervention included concurrent data sharing, tele-consultations, and modified suggestions. Statistical analyses incorporated regression and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to estimate the effects of hypoglycaemia frequency, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, and glycemic variability. The intervention cohort established a significant decrease in hypoglycaemic incidents (p < 0.05) and enhanced glycemic constancy compared to the control cohort. HbA1c levels illustrated notable enhancement, and observance to treatment procedures superior in the telemedicine cohort. Participants also reported improved satisfaction and self-reliance in managing their diabetes. Telemedicine-enabled BG monitoring efficiently reduces hypoglycaemia threat and improves glycemic outcome, observance, and patient confidence. This system provides a hopeful pathway for recovering diabetes management and recovering QoL

    Building bridges between the solidarity economy and popular education: towards a more just and equitable society

    Solidarity economy and popular education are interconnected fields that promote social justice, equity, and democratic participation. This study, using a qualitative methodology, employed bibliometric search equations in databases such as WOS, Scopus, and SciELO, covering the period 2000-2023. A documentary review using PRISMA was conducted, selecting 192 documents, including 94 research articles, 68 institutional documents, and 30 reviews.The results highlight that democratic participation in the solidarity economy faces barriers such as inequalities in skills and training. Popular education fosters critical awareness but encounters challenges like preexisting power relations and resistance to change. The economic sustainability of these initiatives requires innovative business models and continuous education. Moreover, the scalability and replicability of these models depend on their adaptation to different socio-economic contexts.It is concluded that integrating solidarity economy and popular education strengthens resilient and just communities. However, their implementation requires sustainable strategies, continuous training, and adaptation to local contexts. The incorporation of information technologies can enhance their impact, though challenges persist in digital access and technological literacy

    Exploration of theoretical conceptualizations of the causes of college dropout

    This paper addresses the crucial issue of student dropout at the university level, exploring various theories that explain the reasons behind this phenomenon. It highlights key factors such as socioeconomic, personal and academic problems that contribute to dropout. Previous research findings indicate that economic problems, such as lack of financial resources and the high cost of higher education, are a significant cause of dropout. In addition, personal challenges, such as low self-esteem and psychological problems, also influence the decision to drop out. In the academic field, low performance and lack of guidance are determining factors in student dropout. Educational institutions play an important role in providing financial support, academic guidance and retention programs to address these problems. Three types of dropout are identified: early, temporary and permanent, each with its own characteristics. In addition, the concept of procrastination is addressed, which refers to the procrastination of academic tasks, which can lead to underachievement and, ultimately, dropout. It is suggested that procrastination can be addressed through motivational and metacognitive strategies, as well as through the promotion of routines and habits that improve academic self-control. Overall, understanding the multiple causes of student dropout is essential to develop effective strategies to promote student retention and academic success at the university level, both nationally and internationall

    Ethics in the professional practice of imaging specialists

    Introduction: During professional practice, it is absolutely necessary that ethics and Imaging complement each other as fundamental sciences.   Objective: Describe the role of ethics in Imaging for the proper development of professional practice. Methods: In June and July of 2023, an electronic search for publications and systematic literature reviews was conducted using Google Scholar and the electronic databases PubMed, Medline, and SciELO. The following descriptors were used: "ethics and medical ethics", "Imaging", and "ethics and Imaging". A total of 56 sources were reviewed in the databases mentioned above. Out of these, 31 bibliographic references were used.Results: Imaging specialists, like other healthcare professionals, must adhere to ethical duties that include respecting privacy, maintaining privileged communication, confidentiality, and obtaining informed consent. Professionals in the field often face ethical conflicts during their practice. Therefore, it is crucial that they are technically and scientifically prepared to handle such situations. This is especially important when dealing with medical-legal imaging and the ethical dilemmas that may arise.     Diversity in university education: A study in the Latin American context

    Introduction: In recent decades, studies on inclusive university education and diversity have increased to evaluate access to higher education and the permanence of vulnerable groups in universities. This study aims to analyze diversity in higher education in the Latin American context.Methods: The article is qualitative and documentary, based on the leading scientific publications on university education and diversity. The research is approached from the hermeneutic-interpretative approach and the principle of Analytical Induction. Grounded Theory is adopted as a qualitative research method to identify theoretical-conceptual elements and their interrelations.Results: The results show the formation of two subcategories: The first subcategory is "Teacher profile," which refers to specific characteristics of the teacher who recognizes diversity and works with diversity, and the second subcategory is "University context," which refers to the educational process that universities carry out to achieve teaching-learning models that consider diversity. In this sense, "Diversity in university education" emerges, resulting from a diversification of higher education institutions and administrative and institutional differentiation.Conclusions: Diversity in universities is key to students\u27 development of learning, skills, and critical thinking, which is closely linked to social justice and the proper exercise of democracy.

    Effective communication and shared decision making: Theoretical approach from the doctor-patient relationship approach

    Introduction: shared decision making is understood as a communicational model in which health personnel collaborate with the patient or caregiver in making optimal health decisions, encouraging patients, family members and physicians to evaluate clinical information and compare risk-benefit in order to select the most appropriate treatment option.Objective: to characterize shared decision making as a model of patient-physician communication.Development: the method has gained acceptance among the medical community in recent years; despite having an approach in line with current medicine due to benefits such as a decrease in medical errors, being associated with a better overall quality of decisions and less decisional conflict, its use is controversial due to weaknesses such as lack of practical guidelines for its use, lack of training for the parties involved, lack of time and applicability due to the patient\u27s characteristics. Shared decision support tools provide information about the options and potentially expected outcomes for a person\u27s health status, and are different from traditional educational materials. Conclusions: shared decision making emerges as a method of patient-physician communication centered on the participation of the patient in his or her medical therapy and is credited with reducing decisional uncertainty. The scientific evidence is insufficient to recommend its use over traditional methods, although its application has gained acceptance among the international community in recent year

    Introduction: 3D printing has represented a technological advance in the field of health sciences. This additive manufacturing allows the creation of grafts, autotransplates and tissue regeneration.Objective: describe the contribution of 3D printing to the field of medicine.Methods: A review of the literature was carried out in the month of November 2023 through access to the databases Scopus, PubMed, Dialnet, Scielo, and the search engine Google Scholar version 2022, with the strategies: ((print 3D) AND (medicine)), ((medicine) AND (technological advances)) and ((3D printing) AND (surgical sciences) AND (prosthetics) AND (orthoses) AND (surgical procedures)) and their translations into the English language , limited the search to the last 5 years –from 2019 to 2023–, in Spanish, English or Portuguese languages.Development: In a general sense, 3D printing refers to the sequential accumulation of materials on a platform through different production methods, including: polarization, injection injection, binder injection, material extrusion, powder bed, lamination metal and metal tank. This creation process that consists of printing 3D objects by superimposed layers in ascending order.Conclusions: 3D printing has allowed us to reduce the costs and manufacturing time of the structures used in medicine –implants, prostheses, grafts and surgical material– as well as a great advance in medical education from the creation of three-dimensional pieces that allow better preparation and maintenance of surgical skill

    The role of artificial intelligence and big data in health sciences research: Review of advances and educational perspectives

    Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) and big data have revolutionized research and education in Health Sciences between 2018 and 2022. They offer innovative tools for data analysis, medical diagnosis and treatment personalization. This article reviews the most significant advances in this field. Applications such as predictive medicine, the use of big data in public health and the integration of technologies in the training of health professionals are highlighted. Methodology: It was carried out using a documentary review approach. To do so, several scientific texts were consulted, with a predominance of original or review articles, published between 2018 and 2022. The sources came mainly from databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar and were processed through the bibliographic manager Zotero. Results: The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of these tools, highlighting their potential and persistent challenges. The quality of data, teacher training and gaps in access to technological resources are highlighted; in the educational field, adaptive learning platforms and simulations based on real data have transformed teaching methods, although their implementation requires significant investments. In addition, the ethical and regulatory aspects associated with the use of AI and big data are discussed, and the need for global standards that protect privacy and avoid bias in algorithms is underlined. Conclusion: This integrative analysis provides a critical overview of how these technologies shape the present and future of health, identifying challenges and opportunities for their equitable and sustainable adoption
