    Dietary Habits, Physical Activity, and Sleep Quality in COVID-19 Patients in Primary Care Centers

    Background: Since its emergence in December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic, triggered by SARS-CoV-2, has posed an unprecedented global challenge, deeply affecting public health and various aspects of daily life. The primary objective of this study was to explore how lifestyle factors impact the recovery and overall well-being of patients, highlighting the need to integrate improvement strategies into treatment and recovery plans. Methods: We adopted a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional design, selecting a non-probabilistic sample of convenience comprising 345 adults diagnosed with COVID-19. Participants, aged between 18 and 60 years, were evenly distributed across highland and coastal regions. We used questionnaires to assess eating habits, physical activity (using the IPAQ), and sleep quality (using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index). Results: It was found that 52.8% of participants had inadequate eating habits, while 94.2% exhibited low physical activity. Additionally, 60.9% of subjects reported poor sleep quality. No statistically significant relationship was found between eating habits and physical activity (p > 0.234), nor between these factors and sleep quality (p > 0.169). Conclusions: The research reveals a concerning trend towards inadequate eating habits and low levels of physical activity among COVID-19 patients, which, combined with poor sleep quality, could compromise their recovery and quality of life

    Work Stressors and Their Relationship with Depression, Anxiety, Stress, and Job Satisfaction Among Nurses in Ecuador, Peru, and Paraguay

    BackgroundNurses working in hospital environments face a high workload and constant exposure to stressful situations, making them vulnerable to psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and stress, as well as reduced job satisfaction. Previous studies have demonstrated that work stressors can deteriorate psychological well-being and lower the quality of patient care, impacting both patient safety and nurse retention. However, there is limited research addressing this issue in Ecuador, Peru, and Paraguay, highlighting the need to investigate how work stressors influence nurses\u27 mental health and job satisfaction in these countries.ObjectiveTo analyze the relationship between work stressors and levels of anxiety, depression, stress, and job satisfaction among nurses in Ecuador, Peru, and Paraguay.MethodsA cross-sectional study with an explanatory design was conducted using structural equation modeling. A total of 300 nurses from public hospitals in Lima (Peru), Guayaquil (Ecuador), and Paraguay participated in the study. The Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was used to assess mental health, the SL-SPC scale measured job satisfaction, and the Nursing Stress Scale identified work-related stressors.ResultsThe structural model demonstrated an acceptable fit (CFI = 0.914, RMSEA = 0.049, SRMR = 0.078), confirming the hypotheses: work stressors showed a positive relationship with stress (β = 0.53, p < 0.01), anxiety (β = 0.49, p < 0.01), and depression (β = 0.49, p < 0.01), and a negative relationship with job satisfaction (β = -0.27, p < 0.01).ConclusionsThe findings confirm that work stressors have a significant impact on nurses\u27 mental health, increasing anxiety, stress, and depression. Additionally, these stressors were found to reduce job satisfaction, although to a lesser extent. The implementation of stress management strategies and workplace policies aimed at promoting nurses\u27 well-being is recommended, particularly in hospital settings with limited resources

    Ethical Dimensions of Maternal Compliance with Medical Guidelines in Obstetric and Midwifery Healthcare Settings

    Evaluating maternal compliance with medical ethics during childbirth is essential for enhancing healthcare outcomes. Research investigates maternal attitudes toward key medical ethics standards, including Self-determination, ethical responsibility, equity, and beneficence. A total of 475 women participated, completing a 50-item Likert-scale questionnaire designed to assess these principles. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is utilized to evaluate the construct strength of the implement, and the data are examined utilizing Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 28 and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) 28. The analysis revealed significant positive associations between Self-determination and beneficence, as well as between beneficence and Ethical Responsibility. Furthermore, both direct and indirect relationships are identified between Self-determination and Equity, with increased Self-determination leading to a direct rise in Equity and an indirect increase mediated by beneficence. These findings underscore the importance of respecting Self-determination to improve maternal compliance with medical guidelines. Prioritizing Self-determination enhances maternal birth experiences; self-determination has a significant correlation with beneficence (0.62) and equity (0.48). Enhancing self-determination-driven care enhances Ethical responsibility (0.49), providing ethical, patient-centered obstetric care and encouraging legislators to improve maternal healthcare frameworks. The outcomes offer precious insights for healthcare decision-makers and practitioners planning to incorporate ethical principles into maternal healthcare practices. This approach has the potential to elevate the quality of care in obstetric settings, ultimately contributing to better healthcare delivery for mothers during childbirth

    Comprehensive Assessment of a Multi-Channel Physiological Sensor Platform for Real-Time Cardiac Health Monitoring

    Real-time cardiac health monitoring is essential for early diagnosis and management of heart conditions. Multi-channel physiological sensors, integrating ECG, MCG, and other signals, offer improved accuracy. However, detailed evaluations using advanced statistical approaches are limited. The goal is to evaluate the performance of a multi-channel physiological sensor platform for real-time cardiac health monitoring, focusing on signal accuracy, reliability, and usability. While Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) explores relationships between factors influencing performance. A wearable sensor platform combining ECG and MCG technologies was tested with 78 participants under varying activity levels (rest, exercise) and environmental conditions. SEM, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was applied to model connections between sensor placement (SP), signal type (ST), activity level (AL), and system performance (SPF). Assesses the use of linear regression models to forecast and monitor cardiac health metrics using sensor data. SEM revealed significant links between sensor placement, environmental factors, and signal quality, explaining 75% of the variance in performance. The platform demonstrated reliable real-time monitoring with accuracy comparable to clinical standards. Sensor placement and environmental conditions were identified as key factors influencing performance, offering pathways for further optimization. This analysis enhances the potential for improved cardiac health monitoring and early intervention

    Exploring Health Professionals\u27 Perspectives on Patient Confidentiality and Contributing Factors in Resource-Limited Environments

    Patient confidentiality is a fundamental ethical and legal obligation for healthcare professionals and a critical component of high-quality patient care. However, maintaining confidentiality in resource-limited environments presents significant challenges. This research explores health professionals\u27 perspectives on patient confidentiality and the factors influencing their knowledge, awareness, and behaviors in such settings. 323 health professionals participated, using an organized, individually conducted questionnaire established on expert validation and appropriate influencing factors. The research examined socio-demographic, work-related, and institutional factors that can impact health professionals\u27 perspectives on patient confidentiality. The data was analyzed using SPSS 25.0, employing descriptive statistics, t-tests, and regression analysis to assess the relationships between variables. The results indicate that only 29.5% of participants exhibited positive behaviors toward patient confidentiality, while 42.2% demonstrated good knowledge, and 30.3% were aware of confidentiality principles. The findings reveal that while healthcare professionals possess a reasonable understanding of patient confidentiality, their behavioral adherence remains limited. Strengthening training programs, institutional policies and ethical awareness initiatives is crucial to enhancing healthcare professionals\u27 knowledge and behaviors, ultimately fostering patient trust, legal compliance, and improved healthcare quality in resource-limited environments

    Playful strategies to develop mathematical logical thinking in preschool students

    Since mathematical logical thinking is one of the fundamental axes of people\u27s cognitive development, experts on the subject have elaborated proposals of various kinds for its refinement, several of them based on play strategies. For this reason, the objective of this article is to analyze ludic strategies as empowering practices to initiate, develop and consolidate logical thinking skills of, students of initial education. In this sense, this research is classified as descriptive, in which a documentary design is followed, covering a review of articles and research reports published between 2018 and 2022, most of them derived from empirical research, in which playful strategies have been applied for the development of mathematical logical thinking. The results point to a positive trend towards the use of play as part of the programs in this learning area that contribute to the development of mathematical knowledge, which allows concluding that appropriately designed play strategies are able to enhance the development of mathematical logical thinking in early education students

    Trends in digital education and health information management: an interdisciplinary analysis from the administration

    The intersection between digital education and health information management has gained relevance in recent years, driven by rapid technological evolution and global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study, based on a scoping review and thematic analysis of literature published between 2018 and 2022, identifies key trends, gaps, and opportunities in both fields. In digital education, advances such as the personalization of learning through artificial intelligence stand out, but also challenges such as the digital divide and the lack of teacher training. In health information management, the implementation of electronic medical records improved efficiency, although concerns about privacy and security persist. Interdisciplinarity emerged as an essential approach to developing comprehensive solutions, integrating perspectives from administration, informatics, pedagogy, and public health. Significant gaps were identified, such as the lack of studies in low-resource contexts and the need for inclusive public policies. Emerging technologies, such as blockchain, offer transformative opportunities, but require careful management to avoid risks. This analysis underlines the importance of interdisciplinary and equitable approaches to maximize the benefits of digitalization in education and health

    Nocebo effect as the opposite of the placebo effect: Systematic review

    Background: the placebo effect refers to a clinical improvement in a patient as a result of interactions with the treating physician, information received about the treatment, and the defined therapy. The placebo effect is a broad field involving complex neurobiological and neurotransmitter mechanisms, and recent studies have provided evidence that these effects are genuine biopsychosocial phenomena. Although placebos cannot cure a disease, they can provide relief to the patient and improve the effectiveness of pharmaceuticals. The effectiveness of placebos depends on several factors, including the patient\u27s age, psychological and emotional state, the doctor\u27s approach, and the information provided to the patient. The nocebo effect, which generates an adverse response to this type of treatment, which can be defined as the effect opposed to placebo. Method: an exhaustive search was carried out in PubMED and a synthesis of the available evidence on the neurobiological factors associated with the nocebo effect. For this, a systematic review was carried out. Results: after manual selection, 4 articles were reviewed for the preparation of results.Conclusion: therapeutic interaction, facial expressions, and eye contact influence placebo analgesia. The patient\u27s expectation, based on the physician\u27s information and nonverbal cues, is crucial in the placebo response. Variables such as age and psycho-emotional state reduce the efficacy of the placebo. The nocebo effect causes adverse responses related to negative expectations. The presentation of medical information influences the nocebo response. Cognitive behavioral treatments and medications can reduce nocebo effects.     Introduction: Scientific research is essential for the advancement of medicine. Therefore, medical training should include the acquisition of research skills through the implementation of research courses and other mechanisms that promote the collective construction of knowledge. Bibliometrics involves statistical and quantitative analysis of publications within a specific research field. Objective: Characterize Internal Medicine articles published in the journal Gaceta Médica Estudiantil from 2020 to January 2023. Methods: A bibliometric, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted. The universe consisted of 21 scientific articles that have been published. The sampling technique was not used. The variables analyzed included year of publication, article type and topic, medical science field, author\u27s origin, number of authors, readings, downloads, and bibliographic references. Descriptive statistics, degree of collaboration, and the Price Index were used.Results: In 2022, 11 articles (52,4 %) were published, making it the year with the highest number of publications and collaboration index. Original articles were the most prevalent, accounting for 11 (52,4 %) of the total. Articles with four authors were most prominent. Females predominated (35, 51,5 %). University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo had the largest number of authors (22, 32,4 %). 974 references were used, and 715 of them were no older than five year

    Adaptive Control Strategies for Bioprinting Tissues and Organs in Biomedical Engineering Applications

    Bioprinting is a revolutionary technology in the area of producing organs and tissues in biomedical engineering. Despite potential, variability in bioinks, nonlinear dynamics, and variability in the environment cause precision and reliability in the process. The current methods, such as the Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller, are plagued with disadvantages such as slow convergence, susceptibility to local minima, and a lack of adaptability in variable conditions. Overcoming these disadvantages, a hybrid system is presented, Scalable Shuffled Shepherd-tuned adaptive PID controller (SSS-Adaptive PID). The Adaptive PID Controller dynamically adapts in real time with variable conditions and guarantees stability and responsiveness. The SSS Optimization maximizes optimization with increased convergence and enhanced robustness and overcomes the issues with time-varying and nonlinear conditions in bioprinting. The results of the experiments are reduced Rise Time (0.21 × 10⁻5 sec), Settling Time (0.05 × 10⁻3 sec) and peak time (0.09 × 10⁻3 sec). Improved cell viability and structure fidelity are also noted in printed constructs. It overcomes the disadvantages to conventional methods and is a consistent and efficient solution in 3D bioprinting. By permitting adaptive and accurate control, the system makes high-quality organs and tissues production possible in biomedical applications
