    Academic stress in first year students in the career of Medical Surgeon of the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza. UNAM, 2022

    Introduction: A descriptive, exploratory, non-experimental study was conducted to explore the characteristics of academic stress among first-year medical students in the fourth module of the 2022 class of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program at the Faculty of HigherStudies (FES) Zaragoza. The study aimed to identify the primary factors that contribute to academic stress. Methods: The study sample comprised 200 students at the Faculty of Higher Studies Zaragoza, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The data were collected using the Cognitive Systematic Inventory of Academic Stress (SISCO). Results: The inventory revealed that the most commonly identified environmental stressors are excessive workload, professors´ evaluations, and professors\u27 character and personality. The most commonly reported indicators of stress are sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, and drowsiness. The most widely used coping strategies include assertiveness, making a plan and completing tasks, and self-praise.Conclusions: In conclusion, differences in the frequency of academic stress characteristics were observed. These differences are important because they can help design and implement solutions, such as workshops or programs, to improve stress management in the academic setting for this populatio

    Introduction: UNESCO defines Open Educational Resources (OER) as freely accessible and adaptable educational materials, whose integration in education, especially in post-pandemic times and in the digital era, has been limited, despite the efforts of institutions such as the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza to promote their use in hybrid and flexible teaching modalities. This study analyzes the transformation of higher education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the integration and impact of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Methods: a literature review and analysis of current educational practices in universities was conducted, with special attention to the adoption of OER and the use of hybrid and digital teaching methodologies. Results: the results indicate that, despite the accessibility and adaptability of OER, their adoption in university education has not been extensive, mainly attributed to lack of knowledge about their use and potential. The pandemic has accelerated the need to adapt pedagogical strategies, highlighting the importance of interaction and collaboration in learning. Maker pedagogy and 3D printing are identified as valuable tools to improve understanding and practical skills, especially in the health sciences. Conclusion: the study concludes that post-pandemic education requires an adaptive, interactive and technologically integrated approach, promoting continuous learning and adaptation to changing cultural and cognitive practices. It underscores the need to democratize design and manufacturing technologies and to foster collaborative and participatory learning communities through OE

    Investigating the Contribution of Peer-Assisted Learning to Student Competency in Medical Education

    Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) is a cutting-edge teaching and learning approach that allows students to work with their peers to develop greater comprehension and proficiency. Comparing PAL to conventional pedagogical techniques, the research examines how PAL helps medical students improve their abilities, especially in the clinical and theoretical areas. The main goal was to determine how well PAL improved medical students\u27 proficiency in the practical and cognitive components of medical education. Using a quasi-experimental approach, 70 medical students were evaluated over the course of a semester; 35 in the PAL intervention group engaged in structured peer-teaching sessions, while 35 in the control group received traditional instructor-led lectures. Data collection included formative assessments, summative exams, peer evaluations, clinical skills assessments, and student self-assessments. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and the Mann-Whitney U test were implemented to evaluate group differences, adjusting for baseline performance and non-parametric distributions. The PAL group exhibited statistically significant improvements in assessment at p<0.005. Peer evaluations indicated substantial growth in teaching and clinical competencies among the peer-teachers. ANCOVA and the Mann-Whitney U test results confirmed that PAL significantly enhanced teaching effectiveness and practical skills. The findings underscore PAL\u27s potential as an effective pedagogical strategy for bridging theoretical concepts with practical applications in medical education. Further examination with larger sample sizes and longitudinal data is recommended to explore the long-term impact and scalability of PAL in medical curricula

    Ethical Considerations in Critical Care Nursing and Their Impact on Professional Conduct in Intensive Care Units

    Making moral decisions is a crucial part of nursing practice since intensive care units (ICUs) commonly provides moral conundrums pertaining to patient autonomy, informed consent, and resource allocation. Critical care nursing requires intricate decision-making in high-pressure environments in shaping patient care and professional conduct. Despite their importance in ICUs, ethical considerations often cause moral distress and uncertainty for nurses. The absence of standardized training and institutional support leads to inconsistencies in professional conduct, affecting patient care quality and teamwork. Research involved ICU nurses from multiple hospitals, with a sample size of 150 participants selected through stratified random sampling. Both descriptive and inferential statistical analysis were performed, such as logistic regression models to examine the impact of ethical training on critical care decision-making and chi-square tests to investigate associations between professional behaviour and ethical awareness. The findings revealed a significant correlation between ethical awareness and professional conduct, with nurses who received formal ethical training demonstrating higher adherence to ethical principles. Ethical challenges related to appropriate care and resource allocation were the most frequently reported dilemmas. Additionally, nurses with institutional support and ethical guidelines exhibited lower levels of moral distress and improved interdisciplinary collaboration. Resolving these moral dilemmas improves decision-making, lessens moral suffering, and creates a more moral and professional intensive care unit, all of which contribute to better patient care

    Assessing the Integration of Health Information Technology Competencies into Critical Care Nursing Practices

    Health Information Technology (HIT) is crucial in enhancing critical care nursing by improving efficiency, patient safety, and decision-making. Despite its benefits, integrating HIT competencies into nursing practice remains inconsistent due to training gaps and system usability issues. Understanding these challenges is essential for optimizing HIT adoption in critical care settings. Research aims to assess the integration of HIT competencies into critical care nursing, identifying competency levels, barriers to adoption, and the impact on clinical performance. 250 critical care nurses from multiple healthcare institutions participated in the investigation. Participants were selected using a stratified random sampling technique. A mixed-methods approach was used, including quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and regression analysis were employed to assess HIT competency levels and identify significant barriers to adoption. The best-performing factors were perceived proficiency in patient care and HIT usage frequency, which demonstrated important levels of engagement and a favorable consequence on patient results. Regression analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between HIT competency levels and perceived efficiency in patient care (p < 0.05). Addressing these issues through targeted education programs, improved system design, and institutional support is essential for enhancing patient care and nursing efficiency

    Nursing practice has been revolutionized by the incorporation of computerized health information systems into clinical settings, which have improved workflow efficiency, supported evidence-based decision-making, and improved patient data management. The efficacy in enhancing clinical decision-making and nursing practice requires a thorough assessment. The purpose of the research is to examine how computerized health information systems affect clinical decision-making, patient safety, and nursing workflows while identifying critical elements that affect efficacy in various healthcare settings. A comprehensive survey with an emphasis on system usability, integration into clinical processes, and perceived influence on patient outcomes was administered to 210 registered nurses from different hospital units. To achieve a comprehensive assessment, a mixed-method approach was used, combining qualitative observations and quantitative statistical analysis. It examines how computerized health information systems boost multidisciplinary collaboration, increase documentation accuracy, and assist clinical decision-making in real-time. To investigate the connections between system effectiveness, user experience, and clinical performance, descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used, such as regression analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results show computerized health information systems greatly enhance decision support, clinical workflow effectiveness, and documentation accuracy. It emphasizes how crucial computerized health information systems are to contemporary nursing practice. Maximizing the influence of systems on patient care and decision-making requires improving system design, ensuring training is appropriate, and matching features with clinical requirements.

    The healthcare industry has changed due to the quick development of health informatics systems, particularly in the digital age, where patients increasingly rely on technology to manage their health. The aim is to investigate the influence of health informatics systems on patient decision-making quality in the digital age. Survey data from 317 patients using health informatics systems were collected. To evaluate factors, participants used a 5-point Likert scale to grade their experiences with these systems. Independent variables include type of health informatics system (THIS), Frequency of Use of Digital Health Tools (FUDHT), patient health literacy (PHL), access to technology (AT), and trust in digital tools (TDT), all of which influence decision-making behavior. The dependent variable is patient decision-making in the Digital Age (PDM), patient satisfaction with health decisions (PSHD), and Patient confidence in health choices (PCHC). Data was analyzed with SPSS 26, employing multiple linear regression, and path analysis to explore relationships between independent variables and patient decision-making quality, showing significant predictors of decision quality in the digital health setting. Results indicated support for hypothesis 3 (H3), as positive significant relationships among all the path coefficients and p-values validate the hypothesis. Findings highlight the critical role of digital tool accessibility, trust, and literacy in enhancing patient decision-making. Healthcare providers should focus on improving these aspects to support more informed and confident decision-making among patients in the digital age

    Evaluating the Influence of Healthcare Employee Behavior on Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities in Medical Systems

    Healthcare organizations, in particular, are prime targets for cybercriminals due to the data’s sensitive nature of the data managed and the complex Information Technology(IT) infrastructure relied upon. Healthcare IT systems are particularly vulnerable because numerous employees interact with patient information daily, often without sufficient awareness of cybersecurity risks. Given the significant influence of human behavior on healthcare IT infrastructure, this research investigates how healthcare employee behaviors contribute to cybersecurity vulnerabilities in medical systems. A quantitative approach was employed, collecting data from 325 healthcare staff via an online survey. The research utilized several statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression modeling, to observe various work-related factors. These techniques were applied to identify gaps in information security (IS) knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among healthcare employees. The results revealed that work-related stress; Work emergency (WE), perceived workload, lack of training, and insufficient organizational support were positively correlated with risky security behaviors. Furthermore, personality traits such as conscientiousness and agreeableness significantly influenced employees’ security practices. Conscientiousness was found to be associated with higher cybersecurity risks, while agreeableness was linked to a lower risk of deficiencies in security knowledge and attitudes. Hypothesis were developed, with H1 and H2 being well supported by the findings. Based on these findings, the research suggests that addressing both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, improving organizational support, and integrating advanced technological solutions could help mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities stemming from employee behaviors in medical systems

    Investigating the Role of Decellularization in Liver Regeneration and Scaffold Development for Transplantation

    Liver transplantation remains the definitive treatment for end-stage liver disease; however, the lack of donor organs demands different strategies, such as bioengineered liver scaffolds. Decellularization, which removes cellular components while maintaining the Extracellular Matrix (ECM) and vascular architecture, is essential for creating biocompatible liver scaffolds. The purpose of the research is to investigate scaffold formation for liver regeneration and transplantation by assessing the efficacy of various decellularization processes utilizing perfusion and diffusion methodology. The investigation evaluated three decellularization methods: Group 1 using distilled water followed by ammonium hydroxide and Triton X-100 (TX100), Group 2 incorporating sequential treatments with Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA), trypsin, TX100, and sodium deoxycholate, and Group 3 employing peracetic acid (PAA) followed by trypsin/EDTA. Histological staining, dye injection, and mechanical testing were used to evaluate the decellularized scaffolds\u27 effectiveness in removing cells, maintaining extracellular matrix, maintaining vascular integrity, and ensuring mechanical testing. The findings show that perfusion-based decellularization performs better than diffusion-based techniques. Group 1 is the most effective for generating complete decellularization while preserving the integrity of the extracellular matrix and vascular architecture. Although Group 3 also showed good cell clearance, prolonged trypsin exposure caused some ECM breakdown. In contrast, Group 2 demonstrated partial decellularization and lower mechanical qualities, making it less appropriate for whole-organ scaffold assembly. The decellularization process serves as an essential method for liver tissue engineering to produce bioengineered grafts and develop scaffolds that reduce organ shortages thus advancing liver transplantation through advanced regenerative medicine strategies.

These systems help optimize production processes, reduce costs, and improve workplace safety and environmental efficiency. However, MSMEs face significant implementation challenges, including financial constraints, lack of training, and resistance to change. Additionally, limited infrastructure and restricted access to advanced technologies hinder their adoption in emerging economies. Integrating HSEQ systems directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
