A Quantitative Assessment of Medical Ethics Competence in Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Students
Competence in medical ethics is vital for nursing and midwifery students to navigate ethical dilemmas in clinical practice. Understanding how these students apply ethical principles is crucial for improving healthcare education. This assessment aimed to assess the level of medical ethics competence among undergraduate nursing and midwifery students and explore demographic factors that may influence their performance. A total of 316 undergraduate nursing and midwifery students participated in the assessment. Participants completed a structured questionnaire consisting of case-based scenarios designed to evaluate their knowledge and application of core ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. Data were analyzed using independent samples t-test, chi-square test, and multiple regression analysis. Most students demonstrated a basic understanding of medical ethics but struggled to apply ethical principles to clinical scenarios. Senior students performed better than first-year students and gender differences were observed in specific ethical areas. Regression analysis revealed that the year of study and GPA were significant predictors of medical ethics competence. Findings emphasize the need for a more practical and case-based approach to ethics education. Strengthening ethics training in nursing and midwifery programs, particularly in later years, can better prepare students for the ethical challenges faced in clinical settings
Investigating the Impact of Cloud-Based Technologies on Healthcare Accessibility and Service Efficiency
Cloud computing has significantly transformed healthcare by providing enhanced remote access and improving service delivery efficiency. Despite its promise, there are indeed obstacles to its general acceptance, especially in developing nations where concerns about data security and underuse of ICTs prevent adoption. Research examines the factors influencing healthcare consumers\u27 attitudes toward adopting cloud-based health systems, focusing on accessibility and service efficiency. A survey of 530 participants was conducted, and SPSS and factors were employed to examine the data. The results identify eight key factors that significantly impact healthcare consumers\u27 behavioral intentions to adopt cloud-based healthcare technologies: perceived usefulness, facilitating conditions, performance expectancy, information sharing, social influence, and trust in technology, effort expectancy, and data security. However, Cloud-based health information was shown with no discernible effect. These findings underscore the importance of addressing consumer concerns, particularly related to security and system integration, to ensure the effective deployment of cloud-based medical centers. Such systems have the potential to improve healthcare access, especially in underserved and rural areas, while enhancing the overall efficiency of service delivery. The research suggests that healthcare policymakers and technology developers must prioritize these factors to foster greater adoption of cloud-based technologies within healthcare systems
Exploring Healthcare Professionals\u27 Perceptions and Practices on Telemedicine Adoption in Rural Regions
In rural areas with limited access to medical facilities, telemedicine has become a transformative tool in healthcare delivery. However, issues including insufficient technology infrastructure, a lack of training, and patient privacy concerns are impeding the use of telemedicine in these regions. The purpose of the research is to investigate how medical professionals in these areas perceive and utilize telemedicine. A systematic survey was used to gather information from 300 medical professionals who worked in rural healthcare settings, including doctors, nurses, and technicians. The questionnaire evaluated perceived advantages, obstacles, and comfort levels as well as other aspects affecting the adoption of telemedicine. The IBM SPSS statistical version of 29 was utilized. There are three tests used in the statistical analysis: regression analysis to examine predictors of telemedicine acceptance, t-tests to compare differences in perceptions based on professional roles, and Chi-Square Test to determine whether there is an association between adoption status and rural vs. urban settings. The results showed that although medical experts acknowledged the possibility of telemedicine to increase patient outcomes and access to care, major obstacles were found, such as a lack of training, concerns about patient privacy, and inadequate technology infrastructure. Healthcare workers\u27 comfort levels with telemedicine vary, with doctors being more likely to use it. The research suggests that interventions like regulatory support, improved infrastructure, and training initiatives are needed to overcome obstacles using telemedicine. These measures are crucial for telemedicine to become a sustainable and integrated part of rural healthcare delivery
Research on Whole Organ Decellularization Protocols for Kidney Transplantation and Vascular Integrity Evaluation
The shortage of donor kidneys highlights the need for innovative approaches to transplantation. Whole-organ decellularization creates acellular scaffolds suitable for recellularization with recipient-derived cells, reducing the risk of immune rejection. A key challenge is preserving vascular integrity during decellularization to ensure organ functionality. This aims to compare three decellularization protocols, detergent-based, enzyme-based, and a combined approach, for their effectiveness in maintaining vascular integrity (VI), ECM retention, and perfusion capacity. Additionally, factors influencing VI are analyzed using statistical techniques. Kidneys were processed using the three protocols. VI was measured using parameters such as ECM retention percentage, vascular leakage rates, and perfusion capacity. Pearson correlation analysis determined correlations between parameters such as decellularization time and vascular outcomes. One-way ANOVA contrasted protocol performance, and logistic regression determined predictors of preservation of VI. There were significant differences in ECM retention between protocols. The detergent-based process showed superior ECM retention and reduced vascular leakage compared to other processes. Logistic regression found decellularization time and solution concentration were important predictors of vascular preservation. The detergent-based protocol better maintained VI and ECM retention, thus holding potential for future clinical use in kidney transplantation. Additional optimization might further improve scaffold quality and functional results.
Thermo-Reversible Hydrogel Systems for Customized Drug Release in Chronic Periodontal Disease Treatment
Effective drug delivery systems are crucial for treating chronic periodontal disease, where sustained and localized drug release is essential. The aim is to investigate the potential of thermo-reversible hydrogel systems for controlled drug delivery in periodontal therapy using in vitro models. Hydrogel formulations were prepared with varying drug concentrations low (1 mg/mL),medium (5 mg/mL),and high (10 mg/mL) concentrations of DOX, an antibiotic commonly used in periodontal treatments. The hydrogels were fabricated by mixing DOX withPNIPAM polymer at a constant drug-to-polymer ratio of 1:2. These hydrogel formulations were incubated at 37°C to form the gels. IVDRPs were assessed using a dialysis membrane system, simulating the drug\u27s release into surrounding tissues. Additionally, HGFs and PDL cells were cultured to evaluate the biocompatibility and cytotoxicity of the hydrogels using MTT assays. The results showed that hydrogels with higher drug concentrations (high, 10 mg/mL) released the drug more rapidly within the first 24 hours, whereas medium (5 mg/mL) and low (1 mg/mL) drug concentrations exhibited a sustained release over a longer duration, up to 72 hours. Cytotoxicity testing revealed no significant toxic effects on HGFs or PDL cells at all concentrations (p > 0.05), confirming the biocompatibility of the hydrogels. These findings suggest that thermo-reversible hydrogel systems with adjustable drug concentrations can be effectively used for localized, controlled drug delivery in periodontal disease treatment
Theoretical and methodological background that sustains the management of methodological teaching work in the medical career
Background: in the educational field, most of the faculties and schools of medicine, national and international associations and professional associations of the continent debate on how to better educate future physicians in order to respond to the current health problem. Objective: to substantiate the theoretical and methodological background that sustains the management of methodological teaching work in the medical career. Methods: to substantiate the theoretical and methodological antecedents that support the management of the methodological teaching work in the medical career, methods of the theoretical level were used, such as the historical-logical, systematization and documentary analysis. Results: Cuban higher education is currently consolidating its model, maintaining its foundations, guaranteeing in the process the quality assurance of its substantive processes, in order to achieve a graduate with personal qualities, culture and professional skills that allow him/her to perform with social responsibility. In view of this, the essence of methodological work is to manage the teaching-learning process, where the functions of planning, organization, direction and control predominate, while integrating the functions performed by managers, teachers and students in this process, making methodological teaching work in the medical career the primary way for the improvement of teachers. Conclusions: the definitions provided show the contribution made in the management of the teaching-methodological work in the medical career and in the quality of the training of the professionals needed by the Cuban health system
Impact and Treatment of ADHD in the Argentine Context
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has had a significant impact on children and adolescents, affecting their academic and social performance. In Argentina, the detection and treatment of ADHD in 2019 was marked by inequalities in access to resources, depending on geographical location and socioeconomic status. The lack of accurate statistics made it difficult to develop effective public policies, although estimates indicated a prevalence similar to that of other countries.Insufficient training of teachers and health professionals complicated the early identification of the disorder, especially in the public education system. In contrast, more comprehensive evaluations were carried out in private institutions, allowing for faster access to specialists. The National Mental Health Law guaranteed the right to care, but its implementation in cases of ADHD presented challenges, especially with regard to treatment coverage.Access to medication such as methylphenidate was also limited and subject to differences between provinces. At the same time, the debate over the use of drugs in children with ADHD continued to generate controversy. In the midst of an economic crisis, many families found it difficult to afford complementary therapies. Despite these challenges, the importance of strengthening training and awareness about ADHD was highlighted in order to reduce stigmatization and improve access to comprehensive treatment
Biodiversity crisis in strategic ecosystems: A reflective analysis from environmental education and culture, perspective of change
This study on biodiversity aims to recognize and understand the current crisis regarding the conservation and preservation of biodiversity in strategic ecosystems and how, through environmental education, changes in thoughts can be generated from being and doing, the importance of human perceptions and experiences in the definition and valuation of these ecosystems for their conservation; In this way, we seek to understand how human interactions with nature influence the perception and valuation of biodiversity; analyze state policies, approaches, guidelines and concrete actions that require intersectoral and regional coordination to reduce the pressure and impact of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and how strategies oriented towards agricultural reconversion programs payments for environmental services are promoted educational programs and investigative and citizen participation in environmental management processes, To address this study, the following conceptual categories were identified: Analysis of the biodiversity crisis, Analysis of the crisis of strategic ecosystems and reflective analysis on environmental education and culture; perspective for change. Generación de grafos a partir de metadatos de revistas científicas con el sistema OAI-PMH
Accessing scientific and academic information has become easier than ever, largely due to the proliferation of academic journals using metadata systems to present their content. Major examples of these systems include the Open Journal Systems (OJS) and the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), both of which have significantly simplified the online dissemination of research. However, these platforms have become essential for the publication and dissemination of research, giving rise to new needs for editors and academics. A study was conducted on technological innovation, using code generation for primary data production, with the ultimate goal of generating graphs for co-authorship and term co-occurrence networks. This article aims to address the increasing demand for enriched information. We will examine how the OAI-PMH system can generate graphs from academic journal metadata to meet specific needs. Creating graphs from metadata of scientific journals using the OAI-PMH system and Python code offers a robust and flexible approach to academic production analysis. This study proves the applicability of this method to generate keyword co-occurrence and co-authorship networks, providing a deeper and more contextual insight into scientific publications. The relevance of this application reaches both academic journal editors and academics/researchers. This tool helps editors effectively present their journals, evaluate the quality and content of publications, select categories for indexing, and identify emerging trends. Instead, this methodology promotes collaboration among academics, enables more advanced bibliometric analyses, facilitates result presentation, and supports informed decision-making in their research area
Professional ethics in the field of scientific publications
Nowadays, more and more people want to publish their research, which has led to an increase in incorrect practices related to ethics and are called scientific misconduct. This paper aims to characterize the fundamental manifestations of misconduct in scientific research and the ways to combat them, for this purpose a search of bibliographies in databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar and SciELO was carried out, where the search strategies used were: ethics in scientific publication, plagiarism and scientific misconduct, publications in Spanish and English were considered, using 18 references. Finally, it was determined that the main ethical misconduct in scientific publications include invention, falsification, plagiarism, etc. and that the best way to combat them is to resort to formative evaluation at different levels of undergraduate and graduate studie
