Problem-based learning and the use of ICT in medical education: a critical reflection
Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are transforming medical education, as they allow teaching and learning to adapt to the needs of the modern environment, which favors the development of practical skills to solve problems of future physicians. Based on the above, a theoretical reflection was made on the integration of PBL and ICT in medical education, based on the literature review in different databases, through which challenges and strategies for its implementation were identified. The results show that the main challenges are insufficient teacher training in PBL and ICT, resistance to change towards non-traditional methodologies and deficiencies in infrastructure; the need to update teaching materials and develop assessment methods that reflect competencies as practices also stands out. It is concluded that the integration of PBL and ICT in medical education is relevant to align teaching with current and future demands of the health sector, so higher education institutions must commit to these improvements to adequately prepare physicians in a constantly changing environment.
Cyberbullying in Higher Education: Challenges and Interventions from College to University
ABSTRACTIntroduction; Cyberbullying among students has typically been studied within isolated educational contexts, such as colleges or universities, overlooking its presence across the entire educational lifespan. This article seeks to bridge this gap by offering a comprehensive analysis of cyberbullying\u27s nature, social dynamics, legal implications, and potential interventions. Objective; The findings highlight that cyberbullying remains a persistent issue throughout various stages of education, affecting students\u27 mental well-being and academic experiences. Despite its continuity, effective intervention strategies remain insufficient, particularly at the university level, where the misconception that ‘nothing can be done’ often prevails. This perception leaves victims feeling helpless and unprotected. Addressing cyberbullying requires a proactive, multi-tiered approach that incorporates legal frameworks, institutional policies, and digital literacy programs to equip students with the necessary tools to recognize, report, and counteract online harassment. Method; The study underscores the importance of fostering safe online environments, promoting awareness, and encouraging collaborative efforts between educators, policymakers, and students. Result; To enhance protective measures, institutions must develop evidence-based policies and integrate cyberbullying prevention strategies across all educational levels. Conclusion; The article concludes by presenting five key recommendations for future research and practice, advocating for a more holistic and continuous approach to tackling cyberbullying throughout the educational journey

To identify the relationship between gestational morbidities in the MEOWS assessment. Method: This is a literature review in which books, dissertations and scientific articles selected from the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Information System (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases were searched. Articles available in full, published in the last 5 years, in Portuguese and English were included. Incomplete articles and articles older than 5 years were excluded. Results: Reduction in obstetric complications and mortality, with a view to quality care and preventive action, with the Score MEOWS, in the assistance with the women. Conclusion: It was possible to verify that the MEOWS scale has a very positive effect when it comes to recognizing and avoiding clinical problems in patients, and that it brings autonomy to the nursing team, covering everyone in the recognition of complications. All the articles included in the research highlighted assertive points in various areas of hospital practice
Risk factors for type 2 diabetes in adolescents in Mexico: A scoping review
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes has emerged as a public health problem in adolescents, particularly in Mexico, where several risk factors contribute to its increasing prevalence. This condition, previously rare in young people, has been associated with factors such as obesity, sedentary lifestyle and metabolic disorders, which put the long-term health of adolescents at risk. Therefore, we proposed to identify the available scientific literature on risk factors that have been related to type 2 diabetes in adolescents in Mexico. Methods: A scoping review was performed based on the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute. PubMed, Scopus and EBSCOhost databases were explored, with the descriptors adolescent, adolescence, teenagers, teens, youth, type 2 diabetes, type 2 diabetes mellitus, latin america, hispanic or latino, mexicans, risk factors and determinants of health, between the period 2013-2023. No language restrictions were applied. Results: The search yielded 600 articles, of which six were included as they met the search criteria. The evidence highlights that the main risk factors for the development of TD2 in adolescents found were obesity, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemias, insulin resistance, and sedentary lifestyle. The least identified were prediabetes, acanthosis nigricans, family history and low socioeconomic level. Conclusions: Consideration should be given to including the risk factors identified in prevention and promotion programs or in future interventions, thus influencing their prevention in those factors that are considered modifiable
Implementation experiences of a methodology for training competence in patient safety management in intensive care
Introduction: methodology is a system that relates procedures, actions, means and techniques in a logical process. Objective: to validate through a pre-experiment the proposal of a methodology for the training of the Patient Safety Management competency in intensive care. Method: qualitative – quantitative research at the Guantánamo University of Medical Sciences in the 2017-2018 school year. Scientific methods of bibliographic analysis and synthesis were assumed. A post-test type pre-experiment was carried out, with two groups (one control and one experimental). In this way, the experimental group was made up of 12 students and the control group was made up of 41, which constituted the population under study. To measure the variable level of training of the professional competence Management of the safety of the sick person in intensive care, the cognitive, procedural and attitudinal dimensions and indicators were considered and classified into the following categories: adequate, not very suitable, inadequate. Result: 70% of the students in the control group presented a level of competency training classified as inadequate, while in the experimental group, 83% presented an adequate level. Conclusions: the results of the validation process allow us to conclude the validity and relevance of the proposed methodology
Telemedicine in the management of non-communicable chronic diseases: a critical look
In recent years, telemedicine has emerged as an alternative to medical care. This method has facilitated the connection between doctors and patients, allowing remote consultations via video calls or remote monitoring. However, telemedicine presents several challenges when managing patients with non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs). This work analyzed the limitations and disadvantages of implementing telemedicine to manage non-communicable chronic diseases. One of the main limitations is the inequality in access to technology, especially among the elderly and low-income individuals, who often lack the resources or knowledge necessary to use electronic devices effectively. Likewise, the doctor-patient relationship is affected; the lack of a physical examination increases the risk of misdiagnosis, and the doctor\u27s ability to perceive non-verbal cues is limited, reducing the emotional quality perceived by patients. Ethical and legal risks related to privacy and personal data in teleconsultations represent a challenge that must be addressed strictly to avoid conflicts with patients or their relatives. In conclusion, telemedicine offers advantages for managing NCDs but cannot completely replace in-person care. The limitations presented require more inclusive solutions and robust regulations to ensure quality care
Scientific Reasoning As A Method Applied By The Teacher For Effective Teaching And Learning

The results showed the scientific reasoning category, made up of the students\u27 academic performance subcategory. The study was related to other research in different areas of knowledge where the students\u27 reasoning was understood. Concluding, scientific reasoning is an effective method for the teaching-learning process where the evaluation of students is through reason and logic
James Marion Sims: Medical progress and its ethical cost
This essay examines the development and ethical implications of James Marion Sims\u27 medical practices, specifically his work on vesicovaginal fistula repair, through experiments conducted on enslaved women such as Anarcha, Lucy, and Betsey, Sims refined techniques that revolutionized modern gynecology and improved the quality of life for thousands of women. However, these advancements came at a high ethical cost, as they were performed under conditions of extreme inequality, without anesthesia, and the patient\u27s consent. This essay aims to critically analyze Sims\u27 legacy, evaluating the impact of his contributions to medicine alongside the human and moral costs of his methods. This analysis explores how his work aligns with contemporary ethical standards and underscores the necessity of a more equitable and humane approach to medical research
Educational Hilemorphism: Dialectical Mediation Between Matter (Student\u27s Potential) And Form (Pedagogical Structures) From A Transcomplex And Multidimensional Praxis
Introduction: This study examines the dialectic of educational reality from a hylemorphic perspective, where education emerges from the interaction between the student\u27s intrinsic potential (matter) and the pedagogical structures (form) that organize such potential.Methodology: A dialectical approach is used, integrating Aristotelian hylemorphism and transcomplexity, analyzing the contributions of various theorists such as Vygotsky, Freire, and García Carrasco to overcome the subject-object dichotomy in education. Results: The analysis identifies three key elements: 1) The student as educational matter with bio-psycho-social dimensions in constant transformation; 2) Pedagogical structures as flexible forms that must adapt to student diversity; and 3) The dialectical tension between rigid educational systems and the need for adaptable approaches.Discussion: The synthesis of this dialectic leads to the proposal of "inclusive transeducation," an approach that integrates student complexity through flexible pedagogical practices such as project-based learning and metacognition, emphasizing shared responsibility between student and teacher. Conclusion: Reinterpreted hylemorphism reveals education as a dialectical process where matter (student) and form (education) mutually influence each other, demanding pedagogies that integrate social, ethical, and cognitive dimensions to facilitate comprehensive human flourishing
Implementation of an improvement strategy on the imaging spectrum of patients with COVID-19 for Imaging specialists
Currently, medical universities and health institutions are concentrating efforts to confront the COVID-19 pandemic. This reality manifests the need for adequate preparation of the doctor specializing in Imaging in relation to the imaging spectrum of patients with COVID-19 and its sequelae, permanently and continuously for their professional performance. The objective of this research was to present the implementation of the strategy to overcome the imaging spectrum of patients with COVID-19 for doctors specializing in Imaging in the province of Pinar del Río. An intervention study in medical education was carried out in a population of 60 specialists. The viability of the strategy was studied as a variable. Three methods were used as the socialization workshop, the satisfaction survey and the evaluation of the quality of the imaging reports. The socialization workshop allowed the description of the images, which favored the preparation of these specialists to carry out advanced practices.
