Rationale and recommendations for occupational therapy and physiotherapy in positioning adults with acute respiratory failure connected to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. A narrative review.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a life support system that facilitates gas exchange in patients experiencing catastrophic respiratory failure. ECMO connection can last from a few days to several weeks, resulting in muscle atrophy, pathological changes in the lengths of both active and passive joint stabilising structures, and alterations in the alignment of body segments. These dysfunctions may be exacerbated if patients do not maintain proper positioning, which can delay rehabilitation. Therapeutic positioning (TP) is a fundamental tool in caring for patients hospitalised in the intensive care unit. Adequate TP application helps prevent immobility complications, promotes body alignment, and enhances the patient\u27s functionality during recovery. From a biomechanical perspective, TP supports preserving essential musculoskeletal functions such as strength, joint mobility, and endurance, facilitating patient participation in meaningful activities. Its implementation should be based on biomechanical principles, personalised adaptations, and continuous monitoring to ensure effectiveness in rehabilitation. This review examines the rationale for TP in adults with acute respiratory failure on ECMO from occupational and physical therapy perspectives. Additionally, recommendations are provided to improve the application of this intervention, particularly in the increasingly common context of prone positioning in patients with ECMO

Introduction: The pandemic has profoundly altered the educational landscape, forcing a rapid shift from traditional face-to-face instruction to remote learning. Objective: This study examines the health behaviors and mental well-being of educators in Marawi City, focusing on physical activity, nutrition, hydration, sleep, and self-care.Methods: This study used a quantitative research method that integrates descriptive correlational research designs to analyze the relationship between mental health and physical health habits among educators. Results: The findings reveal that most participants maintain moderate-to-high levels of physical health, with 83.7% engaging in regular physical activity, 94.6% maintaining proper hydration, and 64.9% practicing self-care at mild-to-moderate levels. However, 22.6% reported poor-to-very-poor sleep quality, highlighting the need for institutional intervention. A strong negative correlation was found between poor mental health and low engagement in health behaviors, with self-care emerging as the strongest predictor of mental well-being (r = -0.369). Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, educators demonstrated remarkable resilience. Conclusions: The results underscore the necessity of health and wellness programs, flexible workplace policies, and long-term monitoring of educator well-being. Future research should explore post-pandemic health trends, burnout risks, and sustainable mental health interventions to ensure continued resilience among educators

Introduction: Seema Yasmin’s Muslim Women Are Everything challenges prevailing stereotypes by showcasing the diverse identities, roles, and achievements of Muslim women worldwide. This study explores the intersection of identity and conflict within Yasmin’s work, focusing on how Muslim women navigate the tension between self-perception and the reductive labels imposed upon them by societal and media narratives. By examining this struggle, the paper seeks to contribute to the broader discourse on representation and empowerment. Methods: This study employs Social Identity Theory to analyze how Muslim women assert their complex identities as an act of resistance against external stereotypes and societal expectations. The analysis focuses on Yasmin’s portrayal of Muslim women in various fields, including science, the arts, and activism. The research examines how these women negotiate their identities within both public and private spheres, emphasizing their resilience and agency. Results: The findings indicate that the conflict between personal identity and external perceptions creates an ongoing struggle for recognition and acceptance. This struggle is often reflected in the tension between embracing one’s cultural and religious background and the pressures to conform to dominant societal narratives. Yasmin’s work illustrates that Muslim women actively challenge these imposed labels, asserting their agency and rejecting monolithic representations. Conclusion: By highlighting the resilience and achievements of Muslim women, this study underscores the need to move beyond simplistic portrayals. The research reveals that Muslim women’s identities are not fixed but fluid, shaped by their responses to both internal and external challenges. This fluidity contributes to a broader understanding of identity construction amidst ongoing social conflicts, reinforcing the importance of diverse and nuanced representations in contemporary discourse.

This research examines how the development of financial technology (FinTech) is affecting families\u27 income in China, a nation that has multiplied. To measure the detrimental impact of FinTech on families\u27 earnings, investigators collected data from the Peking University Digital Financial Inclusion Index of China and the 2018 China Family Panel Surveys. To measure the detrimental effects of FinTech, the authors adopted the Fixed Effects (FE) double-fixed model. After correcting several socio-economic factors such as education, employment status, and knowledge of digital technologies, the findings from the survey indicated that FinTech has a positive effect value of 0.178 (p<0.01), signifying it improves the annual income of households. Dissecting the demography, the rural areas show a more substantial impact (β = 0.253, p < 0.01) compared to urban areas (β = 0.198, p < 0.01). Also, the high-income individuals benefit more from fintech advancements (β = 0.249, p < 0.01) than their low-income counterparts (β = 0.182, p < 0.01). The anlaysis was further confirmed for consistency using robustness analysis using different measures and modeling approaches.
