Prediction of Fear of COVID-19 in Women with Fibromyalgia: A Study of Psychosocial Factors Associated with Pain
Introduction: the COVID-19 pandemic generated a significant increase in anxiety and fear in the population, especially in those with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia. Although there is no evidence that fibromyalgia is a predictor of hospitalization or mortality associated with COVID-19, the infection can worsen fibromyalgia symptoms. Methods: this study focused on evaluating the ability of psychosocial pain factors, such as pain intensity, pain catastrophizing, impact of fibromyalgia, and kinesiophobia, to predict fear of COVID-19 in women with fibromyalgia. A quantitative, observational-analytical design was used, with a sample of 33 women diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Fear of COVID-19 was assessed through a questionnaire and scales were used to measure the predictor variables. Results: it was found that pain catastrophizing was the most significant predictor variable of fear of COVID-19. The correlation between pain catastrophizing and fear of COVID-19 was moderate, and the multiple regression model that included this variable predicted fear of COVID-19 with an adjusted R2 of 0.248.Conclusions: fear of COVID-19 in women with fibromyalgia is related to pain catastrophizing. This study suggests that pain catastrophizing may be an important factor as a predictor of fear in new studies associated with new outbreaks of this diseas
Impact of a Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Intervention on Patients Diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety
Introduction: depression and anxiety are the most common mental disorders, with a significant prevalence in the general population, increasing after the COVID-19 pandemic. Mindfulness and Self-Compassion have been shown to improve emotional well-being, reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress, and increase overall well-being. However, the impact of group programs involving these interventions in mental health settings and clinical populations requires further exploration. Methods: a quantitative study was designed with a prospective approach in a sample of 24 subjects with a diagnosis of depression or anxiety. A non-standardized group program based on Mindfulness and Self-Compassion was applied for eight weeks. Participants completed the Self-Compassion scale and the Pemberton Index before and after the intervention. Results: the results indicate that the intervention had a significant positive impact on the participants. The dimensions associated with Self-compassion and Non-Compassionate Aspects presented statistically significant changes. Self-Compassion improved significantly, while Mindfulness showed no change. Subjective Well-being also improved significantly in all its dimensions. Conclusions: the group intervention based on Mindfulness and Self-compassion had a significant positive impact on the participants. The results suggest that Self-Compassion practices may be more effective in promoting emotional well-being than those focused exclusively on Mindfulness, especially in the clinical setting. These findings are consistent with existing literature and raise an interesting debate about the clinical relevance of Self-Compassion alone compared to Mindfulnes

A panoramic review of DNA barcoding in microalgae: applications and challenge in the urgency of its use in Peru
DNA barcoding is a tool for species identification and classification, overcoming traditional limitations; being fundamental for multiple studies and applications. This article will review the progress of the application of DNA barcoding for algal identification; as it presents advantages such as accuracy in species identification, its applicability to various stages and conditions for ecological studies and intraspecific genetic variability, which according to its approach will depend on several factors. DNA barcoding applications in microalgae, such as its molecular identification, is fundamental for diversity and ecology; expanding knowledge about microalgae; being useful in monitoring harmful algae (HABs) that are a danger to aquatic ecosystems; In addition, DNA barcoding of microalgae is used in biotechnology and food industries. In Peru, taxonomic research is of lesser incidence because there is no method that provides precise identification at the species level, among other reasons, but this DNA barcoding technique has proven to be an efficient tool for research in the conservation and management of organisms that are difficult to access or complex to differentiate, such as microalgae. To conclude, DNA barcoding represents an essential tool in modern microalgae research, which should be developed in Peru, as it has significant potential to advance our knowledge and management of these crucial organisms in Peruvian aquatic ecosystem
Role of nursing and grief support during palliative care in neonatal units
Introduction: death in children in the world during the perinatal period according to the World Health Organization (WHO) corresponds to 2,3 million in the first 20 days of life; while nursing interventions in the clinical field in the NICU are an argumentative model, of application in bioethics and decision making in front of the different vital processes of the health of patients, this is achieved through empathy and physical touch in the process of accompanying the bereavement. Objective: to interpret and integrate conceptual frameworks related to the role of nursing and bereavement support during palliative care in neonatal units. Methods: qualitative-hermeneutic, narrative-interpretative and documentary study based on literature review. Development: the role of nursing is paramount in neonatal units, since they participate in the fundamental care of this population, as indicators and statistics provide the relationship and incidence of neonatal death and the activities carried out for the end of life of neonates, where nursing professionals during the development of clinical interventions with the user and their families question themselves about their duties and obligations, managing to carry out a suitable practice, using bioethical principles. Conclusions: the appropriate intervention of palliative care and other processes adhering to it can have a positive impact on the dignified death and grieving process of the patient and their families; it is evident that nursing interventions in the clinical field in the NICU are an argumentative model, applicable in bioethics and decision making in front of the different vital processes of the health of patient
Association of Wilkie\u27s Syndrome and Myasthenia Gravis: Case Presentation and Literature Review
Introduction: the combined management of Wilkie\u27s syndrome and myasthenia gravis presents unique challenges. It highlights the complexity of these conditions: Wilkie\u27s syndrome involves duodenal compression by the superior mesenteric artery, while myasthenia gravis affects neuromuscular transmission.Case Presentation: we present the case of a 26-year-old young woman with a history of myasthenia gravis who abruptly developed dysphagia, later discovered to be caused by aorto-mesenteric compression known as Wilkie\u27s syndrome. The need for a multidisciplinary approach is emphasized to integrate gastroenterological and neurological treatments, adapting to potential complications such as muscle weakness that can hinder the management of Wilkie\u27s syndrome. Conclusions: interdisciplinary coordination is crucial to improving clinical outcomes and the quality of life for patients, highlighting the importance of future research to optimize the comprehensive management of these complex disease

Relationship between Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-A Levels and Response to Chemotherapy in Cervical Cancer
Introduction: cervical cancer ranks second in gynecological cancer worldwide. 62-82 % of cervical cancer patients present at an advanced stage and respond poorly to treatment. Assessment of chemotherapy response requires examination of the biomarker Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), which is the main regulator of the abnormal angiogenesis process. Objectives: this study aims to analyze the relationship between serum VEGF-A levels and the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in cervical cancer patients. Methods: this research is Quasi-Experimental, pretest and posttest without control. Total sample: 30 stages IIIB cervical cancer patients underwent a pretest before cisplatin chemotherapy by measuring cervical lesions using ultrasound and serum VEGF-A levels using ELISA. 3 weeks after the third cycle of chemotherapy, a posttest examination is carried out like the pretest examination. Results: the results showed a significant reduction in serum VEGF-A levels and cervical lesion diameter after chemotherapy (p=0,032), (p=0,000). In response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, 21 patients responded negatively, and 9 responded positively. High levels of VEGF-A before chemotherapy gave a negative response (p=0,042) and low levels of VEGF-A after chemotherapy gave a positive response (p=0,049). Conclusions: this study concludes that there is a relationship between high serum VEGF-A levels before chemotherapy with a negative response and low serum VEGF-A levels after chemotherapy with a positive response in cervical cancer patient
