Perspectives on Mental Health Challenges and Needs: A Qualitative Study of Adolescents in Incarceration
Introduction: The global community is increasingly recognizing the importance of mental health. However, adolescents in correctional institutions are often overlooked and do not have sufficient access to the mental health services they need. These young individuals have the same right to proper care and support. This study aims to explore the challenges and needs related to adolescent mental health while serving sentences in correctional facilities. Methods: This study utilized a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach to explore experiences within the prison system. Participants were selected using purposive sampling based on specific criteria, resulting in 30 individuals: nine adolescent inmates, eight caregivers, five nurses, and eight prison officers. The characteristics of participants were analyzed using frequency distribution and measures of central tendency. Qualitative data from interviews were examined through thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns reflecting the complex realities of those in the prison environment. Results: This study identified four themes: 1) Transition experience during legal proceedings, 2) Risk factors for adolescent mental health problems, 3) Protective factors of adolescent development, and 4) The need to handle mental health problems. Conclusion: Incarceration creates significant psychological stress for adolescents, contributing to anxiety and mental health issues. Factors such as violence during arrest, stigma, and isolation worsen these problems. However, family support, education, and positive activities can help. Comprehensive mental health interventions, including regular check-ups, are essential for the well-being of detained adolescents.
What Makes Online Learning Effective from a Self-Regulated Learning Point of View
The transition to autonomous learning during the epidemic is a challenging and complex undertaking for educators and students. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the five sub-variables of self-regulating learning and the student accomplishment index. This study employs the explanatory sequential design approach. The research sample was gathered at random. Data were collected from 500 samples of Yogyakarta State University students, totaling 29,451. Data gathering methods included an online questionnaire, interviews, and final exam results. The study\u27s findings revealed that self-regulating online learning had an effect on students\u27 cumulative achievement index with a Determinant Coefficient of 0.220. Self-regulated online learning goal formulation, environment structuring, task methods, time management, help-seeking, and self-evaluation all had a significant impact on the academic accomplishment index. The ability to define goals had the greatest contribution, while students\u27 ability to seek aid was the least. Another aspect influencing the student accomplishment index is the psychological factor of students. Factors that affecting the adoption of ride-hailing application: case of Indonesia
This study investigates the factors influencing user loyalty and sustained engagement with ride-hailing services, integrating the Expectation Confirmation Model (ECM) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) into a novel framework. The objective is to examine the interrelationships among service quality, trust, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, user satisfaction, and continuation intention in the context of ride-hailing services. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing survey data from 238 active ride-hailing users in Indonesia, analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The analysis revealed that both service quality and trust significantly impact user satisfaction, which in turn strongly influences continuation intention. Notably, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness were found to have no direct effect on continuation intention. Furthermore, user satisfaction fully mediates the effects of service quality and trust on continuation intention. These findings highlight the critical role of user satisfaction as a mediator, suggesting that ride-hailing service providers should prioritize enhancing service quality and trust over the development of new features to foster long-term user loyalty and sustained engagement
The Digital-Social Nexus: Investigating the Influence of Digital Intelligence on Peer Relations in Higher Education
Background: Digital transformation in higher education has fundamentally altered peer interaction patterns globally. Digital competence, encompassing technical proficiency, emotional awareness, and ethical understanding, has become essential for student success. However, the psychological mechanisms linking these technological capabilities to meaningful peer connections remain poorly understood.
Objective: This study examines how digital competence affects peer relationship quality among Kerala university students, investigating social self-efficacy as a mediating mechanism between technological abilities and relational outcomes.
Methods: A mixed-methods approach was implemented across eight Kerala universities. The quantitative component surveyed 1,248 students using three validated instruments: Digital Competence Scale (9 items), Social Self-Efficacy Scale (4 items), and Peer Relationship Quality Index (5 items). Subsequently, 48 in-depth interviews and 12 focus groups provided deeper understanding. PLS-SEM examined direct relationships and mediation pathways using bootstrapping procedures with 5,000 replications.
Results: Analysis revealed significant associations between digital competence and peer relationship quality (β = 0.285, p < 0.001). Digital competence strongly predicted social self-efficacy (β = 0.467, p < 0.001), which subsequently influenced relationship quality (β = 0.378, p < 0.001). Social self-efficacy functioned as a partial mediator, explaining 38% of the total association. The model exhibited excellent fit indices (CFI = 0.972, RMSEA = 0.045). Digital emotional competence emerged as the most influential component.
Conclusions: Digital competence enhances peer relationship quality primarily by strengthening students\u27 social confidence. Universities should integrate confidence-building approaches with technical training in digital literacy programs to optimize student social development outcomes
Psychological Empowerment and Emotional Dynamics in Arts Education Performance: The Mediating Role of Pleasure, Arousal, and Dominance
Introduction: in the context of arts education\u27s marginalization despite pressure for high achievement, this study pinpoints a precise psychological mechanism. We demonstrate how empowerment fuels academic performance through the mediating effects of three key emotions: pleasure, arousal, and dominance. By unpacking the constructs of empowerment and mapping their relationship to these emotional states, our research provides a clear framework for enhancing pedagogy. The findings directly inform the strategic design of course briefs, critique protocols, and autonomy scaffolds to elevate student performance. Objective: to explain how facets of empowerment channel through Pleasure-Arousal-Dominance mechanism to shape academic performance in studio and performance intensive programs. Methods: the sample comprised 364 undergraduate arts students in West Sumatra. The study applied validated scales for empowerment (meaning, competence, self-determination, and impact), the three emotion states, and academic performance. The analysis estimated a measurement model and a structural model with partial least squares structural equation modeling. The study assessed reliability, validity, collinearity, and overall model fit. Indirect effects received tests through bootstrap resamples. Results: the measurement model met reliability and validity criteria. In the structural model, impact aligned with energized engagement; meaning supported sustained activation; and competence with self-determination underpinned a sense of control. Among the emotion states, arousal emerged as the main conduit from empowerment to achievement, with dominance as a complementary path. Pleasure did not account for meaningful variance in performance. Conclusions: the study meets its objective and defines a psychological route from empowerment to academic performance through pleasure, arousal, and dominance, with activation and perceived control as the decisive links. The account advances theory in arts education and yields actionable levers for course design, critique protocols, autonomy scaffolds, and assessment rubrics that raise attainment
