Comparative Analysis Of Obturation Techniques In Endodontics: Lateral Vs. Thermoplasticized. Thermoplasticized

    No full text
The success of endodontic treatment depends to a large extent on an effective obturation, which eliminates bacteria and guarantees a homogeneous and hermetic seal. Poor obturation favors bacterial proliferation, which can lead to treatment failure. In addition, the lack of an adequate protocol for cleaning the canal influences the results. This research analyzes the effectiveness of obturation techniques and their impact on endodontic prognosis. A qualitative review was performed on recent scientific bases. The findings indicate that both techniques present acceptable sealing, highlighting the thermoplasticized technique for its greater effectiveness in the apical third and less presence of voids

    Get PDF
This study aimed to evaluate and prioritize therapeutic options for extensive crown fractures in young permanent teeth using a multicriteria decision-making model. A clinical case involving a 9-year-old girl with fractures in teeth #11 and #21 was used as the basis for the analysis, with the fractures confirmed through clinical and radiographic evaluations. The methodology was implemented using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which allowed the criteria to be weighted and a ranking to be established based on the relevance and effectiveness of each therapeutic option. A panel of experts assessed the relative importance of the criteria and alternatives, producing a final classification that identified endodontic treatment as the most suitable option, given its superiority in preserving functionality, ensuring clinical longevity, and achieving favorable aesthetic outcomes. The analysis highlighted the utility of the AHP model in integrating multiple factors into clinical decision-making and emphasized the necessity of tailoring interventions to the specific characteristics of each case. This systematic framework provides a valuable tool for optimizing treatment selection in pediatric dentistry and has the potential for broader applications in other clinical contexts. Future research should include larger sample sizes to validate and expand upon the findings of this study

Prevalence of oral cavity abscesses in Ecuadorian swimmers

    Get PDF
The objective of this study was to evaluate the rate of abscesses in elite swimmers, analyzing the environmental conditions to which they are exposed and proposing prevention strategies for oral infections. A non-experimental, descriptive and quantitative methodological design was used, applying a 22-question survey to 20 elite swimmers from Lago Agrio and Ibarra. The analysis revealed that the occurrence of oral infections is associated with oral hygiene habits and the conditions of the training environment, such as the pH of the pool water. Inadequate oral cleanliness and the unfavorable environment can favor not only abscesses, but also gingivitis, periodontitis and caries, which affects both the health and sports performance of swimmers. The importance of educating swimmers about proper oral hygiene habits and ensuring the quality of pool water is emphasized. These actions would significantly reduce the incidence of oral infections, favoring the health and performance of athletes in competitions and training

Hematological alterations in major burn patients: a bibliographic review

    Get PDF
Introduction: Burns and their treatment have been studied constantly. Even with all the accumulated knowledge about this topic there are still subjects related to the pathophysiology that need further research. Methods: A bibliographical review to characterize the hematological alterations documented in major burn patients was conducted. The source of information for this matter was mainly internet (Google Schoolar, Scopus, PubMed, Dialnet and others). Results: 16 texts in English and Spanish were read and referred on the paper. There were only contemplated articles, chapters of books, thesis and similar that were published within the last 5 years. Conclusions: The most common hematological alterations documented on medical literature are either the pro coagulating initial status or the rapid thrombocytopenia due to the dilutional coagulopathy. The sudden rupture of balance between the pro-coagulating and anti-coagulating factor could lead to serious complications such as disseminated intravascular coagulation. Other disturbances mentioned are acute anemia, monocyte anisocytosis, delay of PT-PTT and VTE. Although further investigation is needed for a better understanding of this topic, an individualized and multidisciplinary approach will always be the best course of action.

Action Mechanisms of Medicinal Plant Components as Antimycosis: A Literature Review

    Get PDF
Mycosis poses a significant threat to global health, particularly in immune-compromised individuals, and the rise of antifungal resistance has further complicated their treatment. The rise in fungal infections (FIs) is a growing concern, contributing significantly to global morbidity and mortality rates. Medicinal plants (MPs), with their long history of use in traditional medicine, have emerged as a valuable source of bioactive compounds with potent antifungal properties. The current study explores the mechanisms by which plant active constituents (PACs) exert their antifungal effects, including inhibition of cell membrane (CM) and cell wall (CW) synthesis, mitochondrial dysfunction, the inhibition of Nucleic acids (Nas) and protein synthesis (PS), inhibiting the electron transport chain, decreasing ATP production, inhibiting glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and oxygen uptake by cells, and this lead to affect cell division, protein production, and /or inhibiting its mycelial growth and spore germination. Compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and other PACs have demonstrated significant antifungal activity through these diverse mechanisms, offering potential alternatives to conventional antifungal drugs. This study highlights the potential of MPs as a foundation for developing novel antifungal therapies. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of understanding the intraocular mechanisms of action (MsOA) to combat antifungal resistance and improve therapeutic outcomes. This comprehensive analysis not only validates the use of MPs in traditional medicine but also provides a roadmap for future research and drug development in the fight against FIs. This study aligns with and supports sustainable development goals (SDGs), including good health and well-being (SDG 3) and other goals

    Get PDF
Introduction: Vascular conditions, particularly those involving the common carotid artery, are increasingly associated with tobacco use. Smoking raises fibrinogen levels and platelet production, increasing blood viscosity and the risk of clotting. Nicotine also promotes atherosclerosis and arterial narrowing, disrupting blood flow and raising the risk of stroke or heart attack. Purpose: This study investigates the effects of smoking on carotid artery blood flow. Methods: A quantitative descriptive analysis was conducted on 39 individuals (smokers and nonsmokers), averaging 30 years of age. Carotid arteries were examined using B-mode and Doppler sonography with a 7-MHz linear transducer, following standard techniques. Participants also completed a detailed medical history survey. Key measurements included arterial narrowing, wall thickness, and blood flow velocity. Results: Significant differences were observed between smokers and nonsmokers, with smokers showing higher rates of vascular changes. Notably, the right and left common and internal carotid arteries (RCCA, RICA, LCCA, LICA) exhibited signs of altered blood flow. Atherosclerosis indicators were found in 28% of smokers. Conclusion: The study demonstrates a strong link between tobacco use and plaque buildup in the carotid artery, along with noticeable changes in blood flow. These findings highlight the urgent need to raise awareness about the cardiovascular dangers of smoking

    Get PDF
Introduction: Teaching automotive electrical systems in vocational education presents several challenges, including the abstract nature of the concepts covered and the conventional, non-interactive teaching methods. This study aims to describe analytical skills by introducing the Diagnostic Trouble Box (DTB). The research objective focuses on assessing the learning outcomes of the DTB in comparison to traditional methods.  Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group, involving 86 students in the 11th-grade automotive vocational class. Students were assigned to either an experimental group, which was taught using the DTB method, or a control group trained with conventional techniques. Data collection included analytical thinking tests, with data analyzed through paired and independent sample t-tests.  Results: Learning with DTB significantly enhanced analytical thinking skills, especially off-set active electrical components based on diagnostics. The post-test mean score of the experimental group was 79.26 while the control group scored 68.41, resulting in a mean difference of 10.85 (p = .000). Improvement was most notable in the components of decision-making, systematic reasoning, and diagnostic accuracy. These findings demonstrate the reliability of DTBs for electrical diagnostics and suggest that the model may also be useful for developing other technical competencies based on data-driven problem-solving strategies. Conclusion: The study highlights the vocational relevance of the DTB model for fostering critical and evaluative competencies in advanced automotive education. It enhances diagnostic preparedness by academically justifying the integration of simulation-based learning into vocational education
