Student Literacy for Shifting from Digital to AI literacy: Mapping Domains, Indicators, and Gender Differences
Introduction: As artificial intelligence (AI) became increasingly integrated into education, AI literacy emerged as a key component of digital literacy, particularly in the context of Society 5.0. Digital literacy expanded beyond access and usage to include critical interaction with, creation of, and adaptation to intelligent technologies. For adolescents, these skills were essential for meaningful engagement in AI-based science learning. However, valid instruments to measure AI literacy in adolescents, remained limited. This study aimed to (1) identify and define the domains and indicators used to measure students\u27 AI literacy skills in Indonesia; (2) assess the overall level of AI literacy among Indonesian students; and (3) examine gender-based differences in AI literacy levels.Methods: The study followed three stages: item construction based on literature review, expert validation, and empirical testing using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). EFA was conducted with 219 adolescents to explore the scale structure, followed by CFA with 220 adolescents to confirm the model.Results: The validated scale consisted of four factors: Technology Skills (3 items), Using Digital Information (6 items), Creating Digital Information (2 items), and Awareness in the Digital World (3 items). While students demonstrated high overall digital literacy, weaknesses were observed in technology skills and content creation. No significant gender differences were found.Conclusions: The study emphasized the importance of schools in promoting not only digital use but also content creation. The validated scale provides a reliable tool for supporting structured digital literacy education as a foundation for AI literacy
Developing a Concept Attainment Model for Fashion Pattern Education: A Preliminary Study of Instructional Challenges and Needs
Fashion pattern-making is essential in fashion design education, yet many students, especially in vocational programs, face challenges in mastering this skill. These challenges arise from the misalignment between traditional teaching methods and students\u27 kinesthetic learning styles, hindering their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical tasks. This study identifies these instructional challenges and proposes the Concept Attainment Model as a solution. The Concept Attainment Model, which emphasizes inductive reasoning and active learning through contrasting examples, aligns with kinesthetic preferences, promoting hands-on learning and improving concept retention. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing interviews, surveys, and classroom observations to analyze students’ difficulties and assess the effectiveness of the Concept Attainment Model. Data gathered from 258 students revealed that a significant number struggled with pattern modification, measurement accuracy, and garment fitting, underscoring the need for more interactive, student-centered instructional strategies. The study concludes that the Concept Attainment Model can bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application in fashion pattern-making education, enhancing students\u27 learning outcomes. This model provides a framework for aligning teaching practices with industry demands, improving student competencies, and preparing students for professional success in the fashion industry
The Effectiveness of an Interactive Augmented Reality E-Book Featuring Local Wisdom of Kalimantan Selatan on English Learning Outcomes
Introduction: The integration of Augmented Reality in education has been recognized as an effective way to increase student engagement and contextualize learning. Growing evidence demonstrates that technology-enhanced learning environments can significantly improve educational outcomes, yet substantial gaps remain in understanding how culturally embedded content affects learning effectiveness. However, research on Augmented Reality-based interactive e-books that incorporate local wisdom in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning remains limited in culturally rich regions such as South Kalimantan**. This study addresses the critical need to bridge technological innovation with cultural relevance in elementary English education.**Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Augmented Reality-based interactive e-books featuring South Kalimantan\u27s local wisdom on elementary students\u27 English learning outcomes compared to conventional teaching methods.Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a controlled design to assess learning effectiveness across different student proficiency levels. A total of 163 fifth-grade students from six schools in Banjarmasin participated. Students were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 80), which used Augmented Reality-based e-books, and a control group (n = 83), which followed conventional methods. Primary variables measured included English vocabulary comprehension and contextual application skills. Data were collected using validated pre-tests and post-tests, and analyzed using ANCOVA to control for initial ability differences and independent t-tests to compare learning improvement between groups. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 26 with a significance level set at α = 0.05.Results: The findings revealed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group in English vocabulary acquisition and contextual application (F = 28.798, p < 0.001, η²p = 0.352). Augmented Reality-based e-books were most effective for students with moderate English proficiency, showing an average improvement of 9.99 points over the control group. In contrast, high-proficiency students showed a slight redundancy effect, performing marginally better with conventional learning. The technology demonstrated differential effectiveness based on student ability levels, with moderate learners benefiting most from the culturally embedded content.Conclusions: The study concludes that Augmented Reality-based interactive e-books integrating local wisdom significantly enhance English learning outcomes for students with moderate proficiency levels by providing contextual scaffolding and meaningful cultural content. However, high-proficiency learners may experience cognitive redundancy. The findings suggest that the effectiveness of Augmented Reality technology depends on careful consideration of student proficiency levels and appropriate content design. Future research should examine cognitive load and long-term retention to strengthen the pedagogical implications of Augmented Reality-enhanced EFL learning
Effectiveness of Blended Project-Based Learning in Enhancing Computer Network Education: An Evaluation Based on Student Learning Outcomes
This study evaluates the effectiveness of Blended Project-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing student learning outcomes in Computer Network Education. As traditional methods often fall short in preparing students for industry demands, the research aimed to determine if a blended PBL model could lead to statistically superior gains in students\u27 theoretical and practical skills. A quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group design was employed. The experimental group (n=28) participated in a blended PBL intervention, while the control group (n=27) received traditional instruction. Data were collected via pre- and post-tests to assess technical skills and problem-solving abilities. Quantitative analysis, including one-way ANCOVA, compared post-test scores while controlling for pre-test scores, and paired-samples t-tests measured learning gains. Qualitative data from student surveys and interviews were analyzed thematically. The results indicated a significant difference in adjusted post-test scores between the groups, with the experimental group showing substantially greater learning gains. Qualitative findings further revealed that the blended PBL approach significantly enhanced student motivation, engagement, and the development of teamwork and critical thinking skills. In conclusion, the Blended PBL model is a highly effective pedagogical approach for technical education. Its success advocates for a fundamental paradigm shift toward active, student-centered methodologies that truly prepare graduates for a complex and evolving professional landscape
Integrated Digital-Flexible Work Performance Model: Evidence from Indonesia’s Port Industry
The maritime sector plays a pivotal role in global trade, yet Indonesian ports face infrastructure gaps, high logistics costs, and workforce adaptability challenges, making the alignment of digital transformation with flexible work arrangements crucial for improving employee performance and operational resilience. This study investigates the effects of work flexibility and digitalization on employee performance in Indonesia’s port industry by examining the mediating roles of work engagement, job satisfaction, and work–life balance, as well as the moderating roles of technology readiness, organizational culture, and leadership style. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted with 671 employees from five major Indonesian ports, and data were analyzed using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) via AMOS to test direct, indirect (mediation), and interaction (moderation) effects. Results indicate that work flexibility and digitalization significantly and positively influence employee performance both directly and indirectly through psychological well-being factors, with work engagement emerging as the strongest mediator, while technology readiness and transformational leadership strengthened these relationships; job characteristics and most organizational culture moderation effects were not significant. These findings demonstrate that integrating flexible work practices with digital technologies yields greater performance improvements than implementing each factor in isolation, offering theoretical contributions to workforce management literature and practical guidance for port authorities to design human–technology strategies that enhance operational efficiency and support employee well-being
Bibliometric Analysis Of The Use Of Learning Videos In Science Education: Trends, Impact, And Future Potential
Introduction: Instructional videos play a vital role in science education because they make abstract concepts more understandable and engaging. However, few bibliometric studies have mapped their global research development, creating a gap in understanding trends, impact, and future directions. This study addresses that gap to highlight the importance of video-based learning as a transformative educational tool.Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using 130 documents indexed in Scopus between 1971 and 2024. The articles were identified through Publish or Perish, filtered for relevance, and analyzed using VOSviewer. Data were examined across publication trends, affiliations, country contributions, author keywords, collaborations, citation impact, and emerging themes.Results: Publications increased sharply after 2010, reflecting growing attention to technology-supported science education. The United States, Indonesia, and Australia were the leading contributors, with New York University and Stanford University as dominant institutions. Common keywords included teaching, education, and science learning. Collaboration networks showed strong links among authors such as Goldman and Pea. The most cited article (Derry et al., 2010; 734 citations) emphasized the methodological and ethical challenges of video research. Future potential areas include AI-driven personalization, gamification, VR/AR-based learning, teacher professional development, collaborative learning, and cross-country comparisons.Conclusions: Instructional videos have become a critical component of science education, with significant contributions across countries and institutions. The findings underline their transformative impact on teaching and learning while identifying promising directions for future research. This study contributes to filling gaps in the literature and guiding scholars toward innovative, technology-integrated approaches to science education
Digital Citizen Participation and Sustainable Development Goals in Ecuadorian Municipalities: An Integrative Review
Digital citizen participation has emerged over the past decade as an essential component of local governance, particularly within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Ecuador, municipalities have progressively incorporated digital technologies with the aim of promoting public consultation processes that are more transparent, inclusive, and efficient. The objective of this study was to analyse, through a systematic review and a bibliometric assessment, the impact of digital citizen participation in Ecuadorian municipalities and its relationship with the fulfilment of the SDGs. The search was conducted in the Scopus database, covering publications from 2015 to 2025. Out of a total of 176 identified documents, 26 met the inclusion criteria established in accordance with the PRISMA protocol. The PICo model was applied to structure the research question, and the Bibliometrix software in R was used to generate thematic maps, collaboration networks, factorial analyses, and co-occurrence structures. The results show a significant increase in scientific production related to digital participation, with a particular focus on governmental transparency, territorial planning, and civic engagement. However, limitations persist, including digital divides, low technological literacy, structural inequalities, and the absence of integrated public policies. The findings indicate that digital citizen participation contributes positively to SDGs 11 and 16, especially in relation to access to public information and institutional strengthening. Nevertheless, its effectiveness depends on factors such as technological infrastructure, political will, the inclusion of vulnerable groups, and citizens’ digital competencies. It is concluded that Ecuadorian municipalities require strategies focused on digital equity, technological interoperability, and the promotion of a participatory culture that enables more inclusive and sustainable governance
Fostering Graduate Employability: Evaluating the Impact of the Link and Match Curriculum on Skill Development through a Multifaceted Learning Approach
In the era of rapid technological advancement and Industry 4.0, higher education institutions face increasing challenges in preparing graduates with competencies that meet evolving industry demands. Despite continuous curriculum reforms, a considerable gap still exists between the skills acquired in academia and those required in professional settings. To address this issue, the present study investigates the effectiveness of the Link and Match curriculum in cultivating essential skill sets for student success in the modern workforce. This research is grounded in previous empirical and theoretical studies on employability and higher education curriculum reform. The research explores the influence of a multifaceted learning approach, encompassing learning agility, learning performance, ubiquitous learning, collaborative learning methods, digital learning environment, and industry partnerships, on student skill development. A sample of 98 students participating in programs implementing the Link and Match curriculum provided data through an online questionnaire. Employing a quantitative methodology, the study utilizes both descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling to analyze the relationships between the identified variables. The findings demonstrate a statistically significant positive impact of the Link and Match curriculum on student skill enhancement. In particular, the research highlights the crucial contributions of industry partnerships and a robust digital learning environment in fostering practical skills and adaptability. These results underscore the importance of experiential learning and technology integration in preparing graduates for the demands of the contemporary workplace
Mandibular Fracture Due to Gunshot Injury with Reconstruction Using Osteosynthesis: case Report
Introduction: mandibular fractures caused by firearms are complex injuries that require specialized surgical management. Objective: to describe the surgical treatment of a multifragmentary mandibular fracture caused by a gunshot wound, using osteosynthesis techniques. Case Report: we present the case of a 29-year-old male patient who sustained a fracture in the body and left mandibular angle after a gunshot injury. The treatment consisted of an initial surgical debridement to prevent infections, followed by the placement of Erich arch bars for maxillomandibular stabilization. A second surgical procedure was performed for reconstruction through open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), using 2.4 mm osteosynthesis plates with bicortical screws, via a Risdon-type extraoral approach. This approach allowed excellent exposure of the bone fragments, ensuring proper alignment while preserving the marginal branch of the facial nerve. The patient had an uneventful postoperative recovery, achieving adequate mandibular function. Conclusion: this case highlights the importance of timely and precise intervention to ensure complete functional recovery
Association between Academic Burnout and Self-Perception in Nursing Students in Northwestern Mexico: a Multicentric Study
Introduction: academic burnout and self-esteem are critical factors that impact both academic performance and the overall well-being of students. This study focuses on analyzing self-perception, fatigue, and other related variables among students from three different nursing faculties. Objective: to estimate the relationship between academic burnout and self-perception among nursing students in northwestern Mexico through a multicenter study. Method: a multicenter study with a descriptive, relational, and cross-sectional design was conducted, involving 702 students from the nursing faculties in Culiacán, Mazatlán, and Los Mochis, Sinaloa. A stratified probabilistic sampling method was used. Data were collected through a personal information form, the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for data analysis. Results: culiacán exhibited the highest proportion of students with high self-esteem, with statistically significant differences compared to Mazatlán and Los Mochis (X²= 9.81, p=0.04). Students from Mazatlán showed the lowest proportions of burnout (52.9%), while Los Mochis had the highest proportion of severe burnout (71.4%) (X²=37.92, p=0.001). Emotional exhaustion was higher in Mazatlán (53.3%). Conclusions: significant differences in self-esteem and burnout exist among the academic units, influenced by marital status, scholarship availability, and employment status, with the latter impacting students\u27 emotional exhaustio
