    Workload, Fatigue, and Cognitive Performance in University Hospital Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Study

    Introduction: As the largest workforce in the healthcare industry, nurses are essential to maintaining patient safety.  Personal and environmental factors, including high demands, irregular work hours, and large workloads, make nurses vulnerable to fatigue.Methods: The study involved 60 participants using several tools for data collection, including the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) to assess workload, the Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory (SOFI) to measured fatigue, heart rate variability (HRV) measurements to evaluated autonomic nervous system activity, electroencephalogram (EEG) analyzed for cognitive functions, and the Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT) to assessed cognitive performance.Results: The findings revealed that the nurses experienced high subjective workloads, particularly related to mental, physical, and temporal demands. Fatigue, especially in terms of energy depletion and sleepiness, was significantly reported. HRV data indicated a shift toward parasympathetic dominance after each shift, while EEG results showed decreased theta and alpha wave activity, suggesting increased fatigue. The PVT results showed slower reaction times and more lapses in performance, especially after night shifts, indicating cognitive impairment due to fatigue.Conclusions: These results highlight the considerable impact of high workloads, shift work, and fatigue on the health and performance of nurses. The study suggests that healthcare institutions should implement strategies to reduce workload, manage fatigue, and improve recovery to maintain optimal cognitive performance and overall well-being of nursing staff. These findings can inform policies aimed at improving working conditions and ensuring better care delivery in hospital settings

    Land, Hands, And Speech: Ethnography of Communication in The East Sumba Ikated Weaving Tourism Ecosystem

    Digitization of cultural narratives and ikat weaving product metadata plays a strategic role in promoting East Sumba\u27s cultural heritage globally. This study aims to examine the influence of digitization on the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in supporting the tourism ecosystem, as well as its impact on the existence and competitiveness of ikat weaving-based tourism. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study collects and analyzes various literature related to cultural digitization, product metadata, and the role of ICT in the preservation and development of cultural tourism. The results of the study show that digitization of cultural narratives expands the reach of information about the values, meanings, and philosophies of ikat weaving more effectively. Product metadata embedded in digital platforms increases the accessibility of information for tourists, industry players, and researchers. The use of ICT, such as social media and augmented reality technology, has also been shown to increase the effectiveness of promotion and marketing. In addition to supporting cultural preservation, digitization also strengthens local identity and opens up opportunities for sustainable tourism development. With an integrated digital approach, the introduction of local culture becomes more inclusive, attracts tourists, and creates added value for local communities. Overall, digitization is a major driver in the transformation of the cultural tourism ecosystem in East Sumba to be more adaptive and competitive in the global era

    Smart Teaching Factory: Integrating Extended Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and Animated Simulations for Transformative Vocational Education

    This study presents the design, implementation, and validation of the Smart Teaching Factory (STF) framework, which integrates Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and animated simulation technologies to enhance vocational education. Targeting 62 electronics engineering students and 6 vocational instructors across three Indonesian public vocational schools, this quasi-experimental mixed-methods study compared the effects of STF-enhanced instruction with conventional methods. Quantitative results from pre- and post-tests revealed significant improvements in student learning outcomes (p < 0.01), while SUS usability scores reached 82.5, indicating excellent system acceptance. Interaction analytics from platform logs and classroom observations highlighted elevated student focus, collaboration, and task engagement in the experimental group. The STF model proved effective in delivering competency-based, immersive learning experiences through a data-informed, user-centered platform. These findings demonstrate STF\u27s potential as a scalable, adaptable framework for transforming vocational education in resource-constrained environments

    The Effect of Leadership Antecedents on School Leaders’ Decision-Making: The Mediating Role of Strategic Thinking

    Introduction: Educational leadership today faces mounting complexity, requiring school leaders to make rapid yet well-reasoned decisions that influence institutional success. Existing leadership development programmes, such as the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leadership (NPQEL), emphasise strategic thinking and performance; however, the specific psychological and behavioural traits that underpin decision-making remain underexplored. This study aims to investigate how self-efficacy (a psychological trait) and ambidextrous leadership (a behavioural trait) influence school leaders’ decision-making, with strategic thinking examined as a mediating cognitive process. Grounded in Social Cognitive Theory and Trait Theory, the research addresses a key gap in understanding how internal beliefs and adaptive leadership behaviours translate into decision-making competence through strategic cognition. Methods: A quantitative research design was employed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The sample comprised 275 school leaders across Malaysia who completed the NPQEL programme between 2018 and 2020. Data were analysed to test both direct effects and mediating pathways within a hypothesised structural model. Results: The findings indicate that both self-efficacy and ambidextrous leadership significantly predict decision-making capability. Importantly, strategic thinking was found to partially mediate these relationships, suggesting that school leaders with greater emotional and behavioural adaptability leverage strategic cognition to make more effective decisions. These results reinforce the necessity for leadership programmes to move beyond technical training by incorporating strategies that foster psychological resilience and strategic cognitive development. Conclusion: The study contributes to the theoretical advancement of educational leadership by integrating emotional, behavioural, and cognitive dimensions into a unified model of decision-making. Practically, it offers evidence-based insights for policymakers and educational institutions to enhance leadership preparation for complexity, ambiguity, and outcome-driven environments

    A Literature Review on ARV Adherence, CD4 Count, and Menstrual Disorders in HIV-Infected Women

    HIV/AIDS remains a critical global health challenge, with women of reproductive age constituting a significant proportion of the affected population. The interplay between antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens, medication adherence, psychological stress levels, CD4 cell counts, and menstrual health is complex and multifaceted. This systematic review synthesizes findings from eight studies published between 2015 and 2025, exploring how different ART regimens, particularly Dolutegravir-based (DTG) versus Efavirenz-based (EFV) affect immunological and reproductive outcomes in women living with HIV. The review highlights that regimen type, adherence to medication, and psychological stress significantly mediate CD4 count fluctuations and menstrual disturbances, including irregular cycles and amenorrhea. Furthermore, CD4 count acts as a mediating variable in the relationship between ART, stress, and menstrual health. Evidence suggests that DTG regimens are associated with better immune profiles and fewer reproductive side effects, whereas stress and poor adherence exacerbate immunosuppression and reproductive dysfunction. These findings underscore the need for integrated, gender-sensitive healthcare approaches that address immunological, psychological, and reproductive health in women with HIV

    Upper body motor relearning to improve activities of daily living in older adults through recreational exercises

    Introduction: Aging leads to functional and cognitive decline, affecting the ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). Upper body function is key to maintaining autonomy. A recreational exercise-based intervention was proposed to promote motor relearning and executive stimulation in older adults.Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in 55 older adults (mean age 74.87 ± 7.54 years), who participated in a six-week recreational exercise program focused on the upper body (three 45-minute sessions per week). Instrumental functioning (Lawton and Brody scale), executive functions (FAB-E), and five functional motor tasks were assessed before and after the intervention. Student\u27s t-test was applied for related samples.Results: Statistically significant reductions were observed in the execution times of the eight variants of the pouring water activity (p < 0.001), with improvements ranging from 0.62 to 0.94 seconds. The following tasks showed improvements: lowering a jar (−5.86 s; p = 0.021), lifting groceries (−2.91 s; p = 0.045), tying shoelaces (−0.85 s; p = 0.016), and putting on a sweater (−0.63 s; p = 0.048). The Lawton and Brody scale improved significantly (pre-test: 6.05 ± 1.94; post-test: 7.43 ± 1.84; p = 0.008), as did the FAB-E (pre-test: 12.04 ± 4.31; post-test: 14.65 ± 5.12; p = 0.034).Conclusions: The playful program improved upper body function and executive functions, demonstrating its effectiveness as an accessible and motivating therapeutic strategy for older adults

    Virtual Economies in Motion: Integrating Animated Simulations and Blockchain for Immersive Economic Decision-Making

    The growing impact of digital transformation in economic education highlights the need for immersive, interactive, and transparent learning environments. Traditional teaching models often lack real-time simulations and verifiability, which limits learners\u27 ability to develop strategic thinking. This study addresses that gap by developing a blockchain-integrated animated simulation within a metaverse environment to enhance economic decision-making. A quantitative-exploratory design was employed, involving 45 postgraduate students in economics and information systems. The system used animated 3D simulations and blockchain transactions powered by smart contracts. Data collection instruments included a pre- and post-decision-making test and the System Usability Scale (SUS), with results analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired-sample t-tests. Findings revealed that 86,7% of participants improved their decision accuracy, with an average SUS score of 83,1, indicating high usability. A paired-sample t-test showed a statistically significant improvement in decision accuracy from the pre-test (M = 62,5, SD = 9,4) to the post-test (M = 87,9, SD = 6,8), t (44) = 13,21, p < 0,001. These results confirm that immersive, blockchain-based simulations can enhance both economic understanding and learner engagement.     Validity of the CASEL-IoT Model Based on Cultural Heritage in Social Studies Education: Innovation and Implementation

    Introduction: the study evaluated the validity of the CASEL-IoT model, a cultural heritage-based framework, in enhancing Social Studies (IPS) education. It aimed to assess the model’s innovation and effectiveness in improving learning processes and outcomes.Methods: this study employs a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model to develop and validate the CASEL-IoT framework for Social Studies education. Data was collected through questionnaires, observations, and expert validation, then analyzed via quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate effectiveness and implementation feasibility.Results: the CASEL-IoT model significantly improved student engagement and IPS comprehension. IoT integration facilitated interactive, culturally contextualized learning, bridging theoretical knowledge with cultural heritage. Surveys indicated high model validity, while observations highlighted its practicality in classroom settings.Conclusions: the study confirmed the theoretical validity and practical effectiveness of the CASEL-IoT model in IPS education. Its technology-culture synergy offers a replicable framework for enriching student-centered learning

    Technological Mapping and Emerging Applications of Free-Piston Engine Systems: A Comparative Review of FPSE and FPCE Architectures

    Introduction: Free-Piston Engine (FPE) technology provides flexible energy conversion for applications such as hybrid vehicles and micro-CHP systems. However, studies on Free-Piston Stirling Engines (FPSE) and Free-Piston Combustion Engines (FPCE) are still scattered, with limited analysis of their designs, subsystems, and applications. The aim is to describe recent technical gains and highlight promising avenues for deployment in energy supply and mobile applications.Method: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted using the PRISMA-PCF protocol. Of the 263 articles identified in the Scopus database, 77 were selected based on three research questions. NVivo software supported thematic content analysis.Result: The review identified two primary FPE types: FPSE, which is suitable for external heat sources such as solar and cryogenic systems, and FPCE, which features variable compression and adaptability for hybrid vehicles. Key subsystems, such as linear alternators and return mechanisms, support distinct technical functions. Applications span energy generation, waste heat recovery, and renewable energy systems.Conclusion: This study maps the progress and application areas of FPSE and FPCE, highlighting opportunities for integration and providing direction for future development in design and performance optimization
