INTRODUCTION: acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is a rare pathology that mostly affects children. It is of uncertain etiology. It has been related to enteroviruses D68 and A71, as well as viruses such as herpesviruses. CASE REPORT: we reported the case of a 1-year-old child with symptoms of vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation and pain in the right lower limb. Consecutively, he presented thermal elevation, paralysis and areflexia of extremities. Only Herpes Virus 6 (HHV-6) was isolated. MRI was compatible with MFA. He had progressive clinical deterioration and died.DISCUSSION: it was reported a case of a child with AFM presumably caused by HHV-6, since it was the only pathogen isolated. The rest of the tests were normal or negative. Based on his clinical and MRI findings, he was diagnosed with AFM. He had rapid progression of the disease, with a fatal outcome.CONCLUSION: diagnosing this disease represents a great challenge. Therefore, early recognition of this pathology is imperative to avoid fatal outcomes.

Health problems of the upper and lower digestive system affect the quality of life of the population. They are complications derived from the evolution of chronic disorders. On this topic, there is a lot of resistance from the population to reveal details about the topic, which is why there is no true statistical record. Perianal fistula and the development of abscesses are pathological processes whose surgical treatment causes more difficulties for specialists, given the high frequency, not only of postoperative complications, but also of recurrences and the risk of incontinence.  An important factor to consider is the population\u27s lack of knowledge about which specialist to go to, in addition to the deficit of these professionals in the public health sector in Ecuador. Objective: Recognize the importance of increasing specialists in proctology and coloproctology, to treat perianal abscesses and fistulas, through the analysis of information obtained from bibliographic sources to improve the health and quality of life of patients.Methodology: A qualitative descriptive, bibliographic study of reliable scientific sources from the Medline, Scielo, Redalyc, and Google Scholar databases. Material from 70 sources, and finally 29 articles, related to the research topic. Conclusion: It is necessary to promote the development of new specialists such as proctologists and coloproctologists who contribute to decongesting the great demand for care aimed at the health specialty, in addition to promoting prevention programs inducing citizens towards the development of healthy habits and a better style of life.

Introduction: oral health is vital for overall well-being, especially in childhood, as early habits influence lifelong dental health (Goal 3). This survey aims to evaluate oral hygiene habits and patterns among schoolchildren in Saudi Arabia. Method: the survey utilized a school-based, point-in-time analysis conducted from October 15 to December 15, 2024. Participants were selected using a pure random sampling method to ensure a representative group of schoolchildren. Each participant completed an anonymous, detailed survey on oral hygiene habits, including tooth brushing, flossing, toothbrush ownership, and sharing toothbrushes with family members. The data were coded for analysis. Results: the study revealed poor oral hygiene practices among schoolchildren, with only 369 (23,9 %) brushing their teeth twice daily, while 343 (22,2 %) never brushed, particularly in western areas 216 (23,2 %). Dental flossing was rare (1 503 (97,4 %) never used floss), 18,9 % lacked a toothbrush, and 292 (14,9 %) shared one with family members. Infrequent brushing was significantly linked to gum bleeding, highlighting a greater risk of dental issues and the urgent need for community-focused oral health interventions. Conclusion: this study underscores the need for community-based oral health education programs (Goal 4), early interventions, and increased awareness to improve oral hygiene and prevent dental diseases in the population

Introduction: addiction is classified as a brain disease, causing alterations in neurochemical functioning. It is also considered a chronic and transgenerational disease, with cultural, environmental, and individual predispositions. Psychosocial rehabilitation addresses these factors, creating collaborative spaces with a multidisciplinary team of professionals. Methods: qualitative approach with a hermeneutic phenomenological design. A semi-structured interview was conducted with 5 participants in October, who had started their substance use between the ages of 13 and 22, and were in the first or second stage of rehabilitation. Results: within the trajectory of substance use, it was observed that individuals begin using at an early age due to parental negligence during adolescence. Additionally, the loss of roles and significant relationships due to substance use is described, but they find in the rehabilitation center an opportunity to regain roles and habits. As an emerging theme, personal projections related to job reintegration are valued.Discussion: the positive influence of rehabilitation centers on the recovery of roles and habits in individuals with addictions is highlighted. It is also concluded that the rehabilitative environment within the center is crucial, but its effectiveness depends on factors such as camaraderie and equipment. Furthermore, despite the efforts toward social and job reintegration, participants face obstacles due to social stigmas
