Activity of My Vector in Improving Vector Resolution Skills Among Pre-University Students
Visual skills are important mathematical process skills that need to be applied in more complex fields such as physics. Students need to be trained to visualize vector concepts. Therefore, this paper aims to discuss the potential of the My Vector activity in helping students solve vector arithmetic operations by visualizing them in the physical world. This study uses the Kemmis and McTaggart model in one cycle. An initial review was conducted through a topical test on subtopic 5.1. Then, students\u27 marks and achievement levels of learning objectives were analysed to design and act to address the problem of students only achieving one out of four learning objectives of subtopic 5.1. Backgrounded by the integration of the 5E model of learning and flipped classroom learning method, activities involving 11 students from Labuan Matriculation College encouraged students to visualize and practice vector operations to solve vector arithmetic operations in three dimensions. Data were collected through observation, document analysis, and interviews. Qualitative analysis of the findings showed that the implementation of intervention activities improved students\u27 skills in solving vector questions. In addition, interview results showed that the My Vector activity had a positive impact on students\u27 attitudes towards learning vector processes. Reflection results concluded that changes in more active teaching practices had a positive effect on the teaching practice of the researcher and the learning of students in mathematics, especially in the vector topic
Parametric Investigation Using Finite Element Analysis on Number of FRP Confinement Layers for Optimum Compressive Strength of Tin Slag Polymer Concrete Column
Tin slag polymer concrete (TSPC) is a recent progress in Polymer Concrete (PC) material which is composed of finely graded tin slag (TS) particles (<1mm) and Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR) with 1% Methyl Ethene Ketone Peroxide (MEKP). This study was performed to suggest the optimum number of GFRP and CFRP confinement layers on the TSPC core column for optimum compressive strength enhancement. Compression test on TSPC column samples consisting of unconfined TSPC, one and two layers of GFRP and CFRP confined TSPC shows strength measurements of 49.58 MPa, 85.48 MPa, 88.37 MPa, 108.77 MPa, and 132.52 MPa. Then a parametric study through the FEM model was performed to simulate the effect of FRP confinement on TSPC with the addition of FRP confinement layers to up to four layers. Results indicated that for both GFRP and CFRP confinement on TSPC column up to four layers, the percentage of strength enhancement was, for GFRP, 55.56 %, 82.47 %, 193.96 %, and 193.32 %, while, for CFRP, 85.27 %, 122.61 %, 177.81 %, and 151.65 %. For validation, a comparison has been made with an experimental result and data from literature which presents the effect of multiple layers of CFRP confinement on the TSPC column. Both the optimisation through parametric study and literature have provided a good match in a number of FRP confinement layers for optimum compressive strength enhancement of the TSPC column. For conclusion, three layers of FRP confinement was described as the most optimum number of FRP layers on the TSPC column for maximum performance
Intention to Recycle E-Waste Among TVET Institution Practitioners: Analysing Factors Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling
The widespread adoption of electronic devices has enhanced modern lifestyles but also accelerated the generation of electronic waste (e-waste) due to shorter product lifespans. To address this challenge, an e-waste collection centre was established at Polytechnic Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS). However, limited utilization of the collection box has resulted in low e-waste recovery compared to the institution\u27s high gadget usage. This study investigates the behavioural factors influencing e-waste recycling intentions among POLISAS staff, focusing on environmental knowledge, attitudes, and subjective norms. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), data from 85 staff members were analyzed. Results indicate a strong intention to recycle e-waste (mean = 4.109), with attitudes and subjective norms showing significant positive correlations with recycling intentions. However, environmental knowledge and awareness were not significant predictors. From an engineering standpoint, these findings suggest that effective e-waste management systems must prioritize social and behavioural drivers. Engineering solutions could include optimizing collection infrastructure, integrating user-friendly systems, and leveraging social influence through strategic campaigns. These approaches are critical for enhancing recycling rates in educational institutions and addressing the broader issue of e-waste. This research highlights the importance of engineering systems designed to support and promote sustainable behaviours, contributing to improved e-waste management and fostering environmentally responsible practices within institutional settings
High Power Femtosecond Yb Mode-Locked Pulse Laser Generation Using Hybrid Nonlinear Polarisation Rotation and FePS3 2D Material
Developing high-power ultrashort pulse lasers is important for numerous advanced applications in science and technology, such as laser cutting and micromachining. Previous work in this area has often been limited to achieving low-power outputs, hindering the broader application potential of these lasers. This work demonstrated both high power and ultrashort pulses in ytterbium (Yb) mode-locked lasers by the integration of hybrid nonlinear polarisation rotation (NPR) with iron phosphate trisulfide (FePS3) two-dimensional (2D) material saturable absorber (SA). The primary objective of this research is to enhance the performance of mode-locked fibre lasers, achieving ultrashort pulse durations and higher output power. A novel ytterbium-doped fibre laser (YDFL) system was designed, merging the advanced NPR technique with FePS3-SA. The experimental configuration yielded a laser emitting at a central wavelength of 1077 nm, featuring an impressive 3-dB bandwidth of 19.8 nm, and generating pulse durations as brief as 0.14 ps. Operating at a repetition rate of 22.6 MHz, the laser achieved an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) exceeding 60 dB. Furthermore, the hybrid mode-locked fibre laser exhibited optical peak and average output powers of 245 kW and 0.67 W, respectively. The successful deployment of this cutting-edge hybrid mode-locking technique opens new opportunities for groundbreaking research and innovation in the field of fibre lasers. This work not only demonstrates a significant leap in laser technology but also sets a new benchmark for future explorations and applications in ultrafast optics and photonics
An Empirical Study on the Impact of Malaysian Foreign Direct Investment on Joblessness
Foreign direct investment is an investment that comes from another country to buy assets or invest in business interests in that country. FDI is different from other types of investment, like portfolio investment, in that it entails a long-term commitment and control over the foreign business entity. An important factor in a nation\u27s development is FDI, which promotes economic expansion, draws in outside capital, creates job opportunities, transfers knowledge and technical innovations, and enhances infrastructure. By attracting FDI, Malaysia may increase exports, diversify its economy, and improve its competitiveness globally. Moreover, FDI has the capacity to support the expansion of vital industries and sectors in Malaysia, therefore advancing the country\u27s prosperity and sustainable development. Every country has a different FDI and unemployment rate. Consequently, this study will use the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) and vector error correction model (VECM) methods to determine the real relationship between FDI and the unemployment rate in Malaysia from 1982 to 2020. The analysis found that the increase in FDI inflows to Malaysia also increases the unemployment rate. This result contradicts the previous study, where FDI inflows stimulate the economy by boosting job opportunities. However, this result based on Malaysian data may explain that the major FDI inflows are relatively higher in brownfield investments than in greenfield investments, such as the joint venture between Geely and Proton
