Nowadays, the process of peeling and cutting potatoes usually made separately, either using manual method or machine where peeler machine is used to peel potatoes skin while cutter machine is used for cutting only. This is not only requires a lot of manpower and also time consuming which is affecting the quality of the end product due to browning effect. Equipment that is capable to do all the processes starting from the cleansing, peeling skin and cut potatoes to the desired shape is required. A new innovative potato processing machine that has been designed and developed consists of a framework, a peeler machine mounted on the frame, a cutter machine mounted on the frame and a controller mounted on the frame to control both peeler and cutter machine. The operation of this machine started with 15 kilograms of potatoes placed into peeler drum and water is poured into the drum for cleaning process. Result found that this machine is capable in peeling 15 kilograms of potatoes in 1-2 minutes. A sliding divider is installed vertically on peeler drum to prevent potatoes from entering the cutter machine during the peeling process so that potatoes skin can be peeled properly. A connector installed in perpendicular from the peeler machine to cutter machine to allow potatoes into space of cutter machine with appropriate feed rate for cutting process based on required shape. Cutter machine is equipped with perforated collectors to allow the cut potatoes to be soaked in the liquid for the purpose of cleaning and anti-browning treatment. As a  conclusion, this machine can minimize the time and manpower required to process the potatoes

The skills in producing ideas of innovation at early stages of product design or concept are subjective in nature. Therefore, evaluation in gauging the best ideas for product innovation could be conducted through lecturers’ evaluation by using instruments based certain innovation criteria definitions. This study produces one instrument on evaluating ideas of product design innovation by independent raters (lecturers) using a rubric scale. This instrument consists of four main constructs as the basis of product innovation ideas evaluation which is novelty, quantity, variety and quality. In order to obtain the validity and reliability of instrument developed, Many-Facets Rasch Measurement (MFRM) was used with the following three facets: ideas of product design innovation, items assessed and raters (lecturers) involved.  These were later analysed with Facets 3.71.4 software. Raters were two product design lecturers at Ministry of Education (MoE) community college and subject assessed was thirty ideas of product design innovation that use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and traditional method (sketching) in one of MoE community colleges. Findings from the pilot study show individual reliability for the four constructs were within the range 0.82-0.90. Validity of items assessed was also investigated through data fitting of the Rasch Measurement Model by observing the values of outfit and infit mean-squares. Two items were dropped and another two items were modified based on results obtained. Inter-rater agreements among raters were between 60.6% and 75.0% and all the percentages indicate values beyond expected percentage by Rasch Measurement Model. Findings from this pilot study indicate that Rubric instrument for evaluating ideas of product design innovation based on rubrics scale is appropriate to be used to assess ideas on product design innovation generated by design students

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is widely considered as one of the most important technologies for the twenty-first century. In the past decades, it has received tremendous attention from both academia and industry all over the world. In WSNs, topology plays an essential part in minimizing different imperatives, for example, latency, restricted vitality, computational asset emergency and nature of the correspondence. There are many types of routing protocols in WSN such as hierarchical protocols consist of LEACH and PEGASIS routing protocol. This study aims to evaluate the performance of PEGASIS and LEACH protocol using MATLAB based simulation platform. Simulation results showed better performance for PEGASIS even both protocols fall under hierarchical category. In this project describe PEGASIS a greedy chain protocol that is near optimal for a data-gathering problem in sensor networks. PEGASIS outperforms LEACH by minimizing the distance non leaders-nodes must transmit, limiting the number of transmission and receives among all nodes, and using only one transmission to the BS per round. PEGASIS protocol achieves an increases of 2 times higher than LEACH protocol in term of energy consumption. For the system lifetime PEGASIS perform 30% better than LEACH and in terms of delay LEACH introduces less delay than PEGASIS

    Get PDF
This is a study on a water supply system in a building to meet the requirements of the occupants in the students’ hostels at the Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (POLIMAS) Jitra, Kedah, Malaysia. The objective of this study is to identify the factors relating to the current inadequacy of the water supply and to suggest solutions to remedy the problem therein in the hostels in POLIMAS. The problem is the inadequacy of water supply during the peak hours of water usage by the students. The research method for the study employed involves the use of questionnaires and the analysis of data collection carried out among the hostel student population to identify the problems faced by them. From the study and analysis of the data collected, a design calculation is then used to determine the capacity that will meet the water supply requirements for the hostels. The choice of the type and size of the water supply storage tank is then determined from the calculations made to solve the water shortage problem. This is followed up with the determination of the amount of water necessary to maintain a uniformed and balanced water supply throughout the whole hostel complex. A steel panel water storage tank is proposed to overcome the problem of water shortage. This supply tank will only operate to meet any shortfall of water supply to the main storage tank during the peak periods of water demand with the help of a pumping system which will send up water to the main tank in the hostel complex to ensure adequate water supply at all times in the hostels

Kajian Sistem Penyejukan Radiasi Secara Prototaip Bangunan

    Get PDF
Generally, Malaysia is located in a hot and humid zone. Conventional ventilation systems with mechanical ventilation are used to obtain cool indoor air temperature. However, in special areas such as microscope transmission labs and hospitals, static airflow cooling is difficult to apply due to the large space required. Radiant cooling systems are therefore adapted to replace modern air-conditioning systems. The systems typically utilize a hydraulic system, which is to cool the air by circulating cold water in the pipes through floor, ceiling and wall. When the surface temperature of the radiation is cooler than the ambient temperature, the heat from that environment is absorbed into the water stream and indirectly cools the space. In this situation, the basic concept of heat transfer is applied where the heat moves from hot surface to cold surface. In this study, three stages of the methodology will be conducted. The first stage is to design a building prototype. Later from this design, a fabrication process will be carried out to complete the prototype building according to the specifications given. The final stage involves experimental work, in which all the measurements needed will be taken. Thus, the water temperature at the inlet flow and the wall surface temperature are recorded. As the temperature of the inlet water decreases, the surface temperature decreases as well as cooling load requirements has been achieved. Temperature differences at the end of the study indicate that cooling in that specific area has taken place
