Medievalista 30 - Dossier Temático "Do Oriente ao Ocidente: As Ordens Militares"

    No full text

The process of mismatch and coincidence between the author of heteronymic literature and the orthonymic poet evolved over the years, having settled, in 1935, on what might be called a final biographical silhouette of the orthonym Fernando Pessoa.O processo de descoincidência e coincidência entre o autor da literatura heteronímica e o poeta ortónimo vai evoluindo ao longo dos anos, fixando-se, em 1935, naquilo a que se pode chamar uma silhueta biográfica final do ortónimo Fernando Pessoa

Composed in a late phase of Pessoa’s work, in the same year when Bernardo Soares appears and in which the “Bibliographic Table” (1928) was written, the unfinished text The Education of the Stoic, combining the topics of the extreme authorial failure and suicide, works as an already exhausted appropriation of the rhetoric defining other parts of Pessoa’s writing. A romantic and idealistic ground emerges in a conception of authorship understood as the full possession of a “work” or a book, also implicated in the invention of heteronymy. Teive is the kitsch version of that invention, much more than any convincing reincarnation of a modern Seneca. The study suggests, for a better understanding of the case, a comparison with Lord Chandos, a character of the literary dropout, created in 1902 by Hugo von Hoffmansthal.

    Get PDF
At the beginning of the 20th century, Freud re-opened questions about the meaning of dream life in an original way. In addition to the symbolic character of dream images and the method for interpreting them, we find in his works reflections on the hallucinatory character of the unconscious strata of the mind, already present in the works of Nietzsche. The aim of this article is to investigate the status of dream images, both nocturnal and diurnal, beyond the suspicion they cast on the cogito. We are therefore interested in the phenomenological investigations of Binswanger and Bachelard, insofar as, by engaging in a critical debate with psychoanalysis, they distance themselves from the status that psychoanalysis attributes to dreams and their interpretation, opening up other possibilities for understanding the relationship between image and affect, which reveal structures of existence or the psychic dynamism of subjectivity.

    Get PDF
In Portugal, the Temple has long been thought as having no connections with the Latin East and it still remains so with few exceptions. Even among specialists, it is still admitted that the Portuguese province of the order, by benefiting from a gradual autonomy, would have known a definitive estrangement from the Holy Land at the end of the thirteenth century. To challenge this preconceived idea, it is used in this paper an unpublished document kept in the Archivo de la Corona de Aragón which, in 1282, implicates Lourenço Martins, lieutenant of the provincial master of Portugal, in a Mediterranean transport from Barcelona to Acre. He would travel with four brothers, forty-five to fifty animals, accompanied by the squires and their corresponding bales and supplies. At the time, such shipments were not uncommon. They formed part of a tradition of contacts between Portugal and the East which remains largely unknown. The Templars were certainly not the only agents of this relationship, but they played a crucial role, which undermines the national character so readily lent to their order in the land of Fernando Pessoa and of an ever-lively Templarism

The Cantigas de Santa María 104, 128, 147, and 208 present Eucharistic miracles where the hosts undergo a transfiguration. Their sources have not yet been well defined by scholars. This study aims to offer new hypotheses on the precedents of Cantigas 128 and 208, centered on the motif of the adoration of a consecrated host by some bees. If for Cantiga 128 the influence of a version contained in a miraculous collection of Catalan origin is highlighted, as it bears details shared exclusively with the medieval Galician text, for Cantiga 208 the presence is reiterated, at the base, of the work of the Cistercian monk Cesario of Heisterbach, with some innovations to be attributed to the same court of the sovereign to perhaps some doctrinal needs of his time.

    Get PDF
This present issue of RCL departures from an initial and initiatic question: where are the women in the decolonisation processes? It then evolves into more specific interrogations. How have the women in the former Portuguese colonies perceived these liberation struggles? How have their perspectives been, or not, assimilated into the (re) imagining of colonialism? Is there an explicitly female vision of liberation from Portuguese colonialism? What knowledge and awareness do we have of/about these perceptions? And how do these intersect with the views of those women filmmakers, artists, curators, and academics who, today, question the archives, public and private, explore and visually reinvent their memories, and reimagine colonialism? What role does academic research, archive conservation policies, programming and curatorial practices play in the questioning or, by contrast, protraction of official “politics of memory”? In the process, however, we have welcomed proposals that extended the strict thematic (and even geographic) latitude of this issue, but which responded to the challenge of reflecting upon “modes of seeing and knowing” of women involved in decolonisation processes, past and present, and to a specific editorial concern: how are women — in their academic, theoretical and/or artistic practices — responding to the current decolonial turn?
