Sumienie i dobro moralne
The article discusses the issue of the relationship between conscience and moral good. The main problem analysed in this paper takes the form of the following question: In what way can conscience be a moral motif for the realization of the moral good? As concluded, it is impossible to accept the hypothesis of conscience as the basis of absolute moral good. However, the negation of the important status of conscience in the realization of moral good would be an error in moral philosophy. In philosophical anthropology this would mean depriving human beings of the significant attribute of their condition
Ekonomia dobra czy zła? Ekonomiczno-gospodarcze paradoksy współczesności
Economics plays important role in contemporary societies and shapes our thinking about fundamental aspects of everyday life. If that is the case, it is necessary to analyse economic theories from the axiological point of view. It does not only has theoretical importance but practical as well when we consider recent financial and economic crisis when economists were asked to explain how and why was it possible for the 21st century economy and economics to fail so seriously. The article reflects on these issues and presents examples of paradoxes in contemporary economics and economy which show that critical evaluation of what our societies consider true and right in terms of material reproduction and social well-being is necessary. It also asks about ‘good economics’ which will not only adequately describe and interprete real economic processes but also serve as the useful and effective tool for accomplishing economic and social – morally acceptable – development. In order to do this the article analyses and verifies foundations and assumptions of current economic theory. It engages the contribution of personalistic perspective and authors like John D. Mueller, Tomáš Sedláček, Joseph E. Stiglitz, Amartya Sen, Gary S. Becker, Chantal Delsol and Grzegorz W. Kołodko who offer interesting arguments in the discussion about the proper shape of economics which will facilitate economic and human development as well
Doświadczanie wiary jako wydobywanie dobra
Biblical, evangelical, philosophical and poetical references to “dwelling of the good” in history of a man reinforce a main argumentation of this article according to which experience of Christian faith has an effective impact to extracting of the good itself.Evangelical narrative and a person of Jesus Christ – according to many philosophers, thinkers and poets, sometimes far from being a believers – are an authentic roots of European civilization, so we have to “protect the good”, that is carried by the words of Gospel and a person of Saviour, and include it into our daily practices. Christianity without its evangelical source, without the foundation of good becomes a mere intellectual matter, as well as European culture without Christianity becomes a “waste land"
Dobro wspólne i interes własny jako problem etyki gospodarczej
The goal of this article is to argue in favor of such a type of ethical reflection which comes to terms with the unavoidable existence of competition and self-interest as a basic human motivation, which does justice to the market rules of the game, but, at the same time, does not allow itself to embrace the extremities of neoliberal ideology which a priori rejects any state intervention in the markets. Competition in a modern economy which resembles a positive-sum game, can be recognized as constructive element of the market leading to prosperity and economic development. Morality then cannot be construed as rules which favor only restraint, altruism and compassion but rather as a social regulator which creates conditions of fair competition, fair rules of the game. This kind of economic ethics has been elaborated by the followers of the so-called ordoliberalism of Walter Eucken. The ethics of order (Ordnungsethik) or institutional ethics has been focused on the legal and moral order created and safeguarded by a state. The article develops the idea of non-contradictory status of self-interest and common good within the modern economy as a basis for business ethics
Rozumienie dobra i zła jako przedmiotów uczuć według św. Tomasza z Akwinu
The aim of this article is to investigate the taxonomy of emotions formulated by Saint Thomas Aquinas. Thomas’ vision of a human being as a unity of soul andbody results in a conclusion that emotions are states of persons, yet it is possible to name a particular power of a soul responsible for the appearance of emotions – it is a sensitive appetite. Referring back to Aristotle’s theory of motion, St. Thomas calls emotions passive movements of a sensitive appetite into two directions: towards good or away from evil. In this article bonum and malum are considered as objects of emotions what poses a question about the positive or negative value of purely emotional states
Nieosiągalna jedność, czyli dwa wzorce ekumenizmu
The term ecumenism is used to refer to initiatives aimed at uniting all Christians into one common Church. The ecumenical movement originated at the beginning of the 19th century in Protestant and Anglican Churches. At that time the Catholic Church believed it to be the result of misguided understanding of theological concepts. This early attitude of the Catholic Church was expressed by Pope Pius XI in his 1928 encyclical Mortalium animos. The major change of attitude came with the Second Vatican Council: the 1964 Decree on ecumenism Unitatis redintegratio brought a new interpretation of the concept, an interpretation which may seem contradictory to the previous one. This paper argues that the two documents are not in fact contradictory, but present two models of ecumenism. However, neither of them can be implemented. This impossibility cannot be avoided because it is inherent in the metaphysical nature of this world and the nature of man who belongs to it
Sumienie jako głos przynaglenia, aby czynić dobro - według Karola Wojtyły
This article presents a conscience as a main moral power responsible for doing good. Author bases here on Karol Wojtyła’s work (his young poems and dramas as well as his teaching as John Paul II). By listening a voice of our conscience, we are capable and eager for doing good, because we are accountable to ourselves, our deep urge, that directs us toward good and could be led by the voice of the Good which shows us a proper path and encourage to leave our previous life – like in Adam Chmielewski, St Brother Albert case – and follow His commandments. It is necessary to revitalize a voice of conscious in modern world in order to maintain an urge to doing good, inherent to every human being
