Sufi Devotional Aesthetics: Fieldwork in Contemporary Sufi Communities in the Balkans
No full textThrough an examination of visual materiality and ritual landscapes, this study takes a multidimensional approach to unraveling the nuances of Sufi devotional aesthetics. It explores the convergence of religion and aesthetics, focusing on the sensory dimensions of religious expression. In line with the methodological trends inspired by the ‘aesthetic turn,’ the aim is to shed light on various facets of ethnographic experience within contemporary Sufi communities in the Balkans. Drawing on insights from a decade of fieldwork, two case studies are presented that illustrate how an immersive, multisensory, and collaborative approach to fieldwork can be effectively used to explore the instrumental role of Sufi mystical experience in shaping devotional aesthetics in the region
Entwicklung einer Strategie und Governance für Forschungsdaten: Data Stewardship an der Eberswalder Hochschule und im brandenburgischen Verbund
No full textBei der Institutionalisierung des Forschungsdatenmanagements (FDM) stehen Hochschulen für angewandte Wissenschaften (HAW) vor einer Vielzahl von Herausforderungen und müssen die notwendigen Rahmenbedingungen zur Umsetzung des FDM für die Forschenden ihrer Institution schaffen. HAW besitzen einen starken Fokus auf der praxisbezogenen Lehre, wobei Forschung auch einen zunehmend höheren Stellenwert erfährt. Dementsprechend muss neben dem Ausbau der wissenschaftsunterstützenden Infrastruktur auch ein Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung von FDM in der Hochschulleitung geschaffen werden, um zu einem nachhaltigen FDM zu kommen. An der Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung Eberswalde (HNEE) wurde zur strukturierten Planung der Institutionalisierung eine Strategie entlang des RISE-DE Referenzmodells erstellt und verabschiedet. Im Beitrag werden der Strategieprozess und die Rahmenbedingungen dargelegt. Dazu gehören auch die in der Landesinitiative Forschungsdatenmanagement Brandenburg (FDM-BB) bestehenden und in der Entwicklung befindlichen Angebote und Services. Diese betreffen die Bereiche Beratung, Schulung und technische Dienste und werden im Projekt durch Data Stewards abgedeckt. Für diese unterschiedlichen Formen des Data Stewardships wird eine Einordnung vorgenommen und aufgezeigt, wie Data Stewardship an der Eberswalder Hochschule zum Erstellen der Forschungsdatenstrategie mit Hilfe des RISE-DE Referenzmodells zum Einsatz kam. Hier werden insbesondere die personelle Verortung und der Aufbau einer Forschungsdaten-Governance durch den Data Steward entlang des Strategieprozesses beschrieben. Zum Abschluss zeigt der Artikel auf, wie eine kleine Hochschule durch die Zusammenarbeit im Verbund und von den Angeboten in den Bereichen Beratung, Schulung und technische Dienste profitieren und so in der Forschungsdatenstrategie höhere Ziele setzen kann

Researching Series Fatigue: A Data and Methodology Paper
No full textThis data paper describes the data and methodology behind a collaborative and exploratory study from 2023–2024 that addresses the phenomenon of ‘serial fatigue,’ which appears to arise from the abundant availability of serial media content on the internet. The data paper complements the scientific article that emerged from this study and was published in Fandom | Cultures | Research (1/2024) and provides a detailed description of the dataset published via the media/rep/ data repository.
The paper traces the course of the study, from its initial conceptualization to various phases of the research process, from data collection and coding to considerations of the data‘s longevity. Furthermore, the paper highlights the study‘s limitations, such as the homogeneity of the sample, but also addresses its advantages, such as rich, qualitative insights into contemporary media consumption. It also describes the challenges of data management across countries.
Aiming to facilitate the sharing of data, reusability and transparency in research, the paper is intended to serve as a bridge between the raw data in the dataset (questionnaire, preliminary coding table, final codebook with code descriptions and examples, survey responses and interview transcripts, informed consent) and the broader research community
Expertise in Interaktion: Zu einigen Eigenarten der Wissensvermittlung im NDR-Podcast „Coronavirus-Update“
No full textDer nachstehende Beitrag enthält Analysen zu Formen der Wissensvermittlung im Rahmen des NDR-Podcasts „Coronavirus-Update“. Bezugnehmend auf bisherige Untersuchungen der mehrfach preisgekrönten Sendung aus medienwissenschaftlicher und pädagogischer Sicht sollen auf Basis der retranskribierten Gesprächsdaten wiederkehrende Äußerungsformate betrachtet werden, die zu kommunikativen Charakteristika des Podcast gezählt werden können. Zu diesem Zweck wird ausgehend von einem quantitativen Befund der Einsatz von ‚verba dicendi‘ eine qualitative Betrachtung der von ihnen gerahmten Äußerungseinheiten aus ausgewählten Podcastausschnitten vorgenommen. Konkret geht es um das Verb ‚sagen‘, mit dessen Verwendungen, so die These, ein spezifischer Beitrag zur Ausgestaltung der Expert:innenrolle in der Interaktion zwischen den Teilnehmenden des Podcasts sowie gegenüber der rezipierenden Öffentlichkeit realisiert wird. Das Vorgehen der exemplarischen Analysen hat einen rekonstruktiven Charakter und greift auf unterschiedliche Ansätze der linguistischen Analyse von Gesprächen zurück.
The following article contains analyses of forms of knowledge transfer in the context of the NDR podcast Coronavirus-Update”. With reference to previous studies of the multiaward-winning programme from the perspective of media studies and pedagogy, recurring utterance formats that can be counted as communicative characteristics of the podcast will be considered on the basis of the retranscribed conversation data. For this purpose, starting from a quantitative finding of the use of ’verba dicendi’, a qualitative examination of the utterance units framed by them from selected podcast excerpts will be undertaken. Specifically, it is about the verb to ‚say‘, the use of which, according to the thesis, realises a specific contribution to the shaping of the expert’s role in the interaction between the participants of the podcast as well as towards the receiving public. The procedure of the exemplary analyses has a reconstructive character and draws on different approaches to the linguistic analysis of conversations
Les langues africaines dans la communication médicale en Suisse
No full textLa Suisse reconnait quatre langues officielles: allemand, français, italien et romanche. Cette politique publique de multilinguisme assumé engage un appui actif à la production et à la diffusion d’information, de savoir, aussi bien que de créations littéraires et artistiques dans des langues de poids démographique, politique et économique variables. En plus, depuis plus de quatre décennies les flux migratoires soutenus ont influencé le paysage linguistique de façon considérable. Ainsi, les langues des communautés immigrées importantes doivent de plus en plus être prises en compte dans la communication publique. Ici, le cas des langues africaines est examiné à travers l’interaction entre leurs statuts juridiques et niveaux de développement dans les pays d’origine et les efforts d’inclusion dans les instruments de communication officielle en Suisse et dans d’autres pays européens. Cet article concerne en premier lieu l’évolution des stratégies dans le secteur suisse de la santé publique.
Switzerland recognizes four official languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. This public policy of assumed multilingualism involves active support to the production and dissemination of information, knowledge, as well as literary and artistic creation in languages of varying demographic, political and economic weights. In addition, steady migration has considerably influenced the linguistic landscape over the last four decades. Thus, increasingly, the languages of large migrant communities also need to be taken into consideration in public communication. The case of African languages is examined here through the interplay between the legal status and level of development of languages in their homelands and the efforts of including them in official communication tools in Switzerland and other European countries. Metasprachliche Bezüge auf \u27keine Texte\u27 als Indikatoren kommunikativer Normen und ihre Funktion in britischen Parlamentsdebatten
No full text‚Keine Texte‘ werden dann kommunikativ relevant, wenn die Möglichkeit ihres Vorkommens in Diskurszusammenhängen besteht, oder wenn sie eine kontextgebundene Erwartung ihres Vorkommens nicht erfüllen. Dabei kann es jeweils zur metakommunikativen Explikation der (unerfüllten) Erwartung ihres Vorkommens kommen. Wann, wo und wie lassen sich solche metakommunikativen Explikationen auffinden? In diesem Beitrag sollen anhand eines Korpus britischer Parlamentsdebatten Sprachgebrauchsmuster ermittelt werden, die auf das Ausbleiben von Text schließen lassen. Neben explizitem Bezug auf Schweigen wird zum einen sprachbezogenes Vokabular in Kollokation mit Negationen analysiert, zum anderen werden unterlassungsindizierende Verben in Kollokationen mit Bezeichnungen für Texte und Sprechakte untersucht. Damit liefert der Beitrag eine methodische Vorlage für die empirische Analyse von Bezügen auf ‚keine Texte‘. Diese Analyse ermöglicht zudem einen Blick auf die Funktionen der Thematisierung des Ausbleibens von Text im politischen Diskurs und auf die kommunikationsbezogenen Normen, welche bei der behaupteten Erwartbarkeit geltend gemacht werden.
‚No texts‘ become communicatively relevant when the occurrence of text is either arguably possible, or when the absence of text juxtaposes a contextually determined expectation of the occurrence of text. In both cases, these unresolved expectations can be metacommunicatively explicated. When, where and how can we find such metacommunicative explications? This contribution will use a corpus of British parliamentary debates to find patterns of speech that refer to the absence of text. Apart from explicit references to silence, vocabulary referring to language use and collocating with negations will be analysed. Furthermore, vocabulary relating to lack of activity and collocating with references to language use will be investigated. This article thus provides a methodological template for the empirical analysis of references to no texts. It also seeks to demonstrate the functions of references to the absence of text in political discourse and it will shed light on the communicative norms which are actualised when expectations of speech are stated
Unbemerkt, übersehen, ignoriert - beiläufige Linguistic Landscapes an Wanderwegen
No full textStell dir vor, da steht ein Schild, und keiner liest es: Die Linguistic-Landscape-Forschung hat sich bislang weder intensiver mit Beschilderungen und Betextungen des öffentlichen Raums außerhalb von Städten befasst noch mit der Frage mangelnder Wahrnehmung solcher Linguistic Landscapes. Im Beitrag werden daher Schilder entlang von Wanderwegen des alpinen Nationalparks Hohe Tauern daraufhin analysiert, inwiefern sie potenziell ungelesen bleiben, obwohl sie als lesbare Texte existieren. Damit wird ein Bogen von ‚keinen‘ Texten zu ‚kleinen‘ und ‚unbemerkten‘ Texten geschlagen. Mithilfe von Kategorien der Textlinguistik und der Linguistic-Landscape-Forschung wird anhand von Beispielen explorativ eine Typologie erstellt und aus verschiedenen linguistischen Perspektiven auf mögliche Schlussfolgerungen und Anschlussfragen hin diskutiert.
Imagine there is a sign and no one reads it: linguistic landscape research has not yet dealt intensively with signs and texts in public spaces outside cities, nor with the question of the lack of perception of such linguistic landscapes. The article therefore analyzes signs along hiking trails in the alpine Hohe Tauern National Park in terms of the extent to which they potentially remain unread, even though they exist as readable texts. In this way, an arc is drawn from \u27no\u27 texts to \u27small\u27 and to \u27unnoticed\u27 texts. With categories from text linguistics and linguistic landscape research, a typology is exploratively created on the basis of examples. The results are discussed from various linguistic perspectives with regard to possible conclusions and follow-up questions
Development and Introduction of a Disciplinary Data Repository for Sport Scientists Based on the Example MO|RE Data: eResearch Infrastructure for Motor Research Data
No full textIn recent decades, the field of sports science has emerged as a discipline characterised by a substantial accumulation of data at the intersection of social and natural sciences. This wealth of data has contributed significantly to our understanding of human performance, training methods, health and well-being and other sport-related phenomena.Data on motor performance have been collected in numerous national and international projects over several decades. The Institute of Sports and Sports Science (IfSS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the largest research centres for human motor performance testing and has funded the Competence Centre for Motor Performance and Motor Testing (KOMET). In 2013, the project group of Klaus Bös and Claudia Niessner registered the need of data management for motor test data in sports science. They started the project “eResearch infrastructure for motor research data”, which was funded by the German Research Foundation in two funding periods from 2014 to 2023. The MO|RE data1 repository emerged from this project. MO|RE data is the first disciplinary repository in sports science and offers these features: publication, search, citation, storage, mapping and harmonisation. During its development and subsequent implementation, it has raised many questions. In general, the basic functions of a repository are well understood, as its overall purpose is clear. However, it is crucial to address the specific needs of the sports science community and different target groups to ensure the repository’s practical utility post-publication. This includes considerations such as data harmonisation through standardisation to a common unit, linking datasets from different surveys, and other measures to enhance usability.With the development of MO|RE data, the project group started an experiment on how specific a repository can be in order to have a defined target group and to address a specific need, and at the same time to be used by enough users to still be relevant and used in the future. Now, MO|RE data has to make the step from project object to routine operation
Airport retransformed: Learning beyond the seminar room in teacher training
No full textAm Beispiel eines Seminars in der Didaktik der romanischen Sprachen wird aufgezeigt, wie sich durch den Einbezug außerhochschulischer Lehr-Lernsettings und gesteuerter wie ungesteuerter Lernprozesse praktische Erfahrung und fachdidaktische Reflexion auf ganz sinnfällige Weise verbinden lassen. Auf diese Weise wird auch die künftige Rolle der Studierenden als Reflective Practitioner angebahnt. Als besonders fruchtbar erweisen sich dabei die Gestaltung des Seminars nach Prinzipien der Handlungsorientierung und das Prinzip des didaktischen Doppeldeckers.Using the example of a seminar in the didactics of Romance languages, it is demonstrated how practical experience and didactic reflection can be combined in a very meaningful way by incorporating out-of-university learning and both controlled and uncontrolled learning processes. This approach initiates the future role of students as reflective practitioners. The design of the seminar according to the principles of action orientation and the principle of the ‘didactic double-decker’ prove to be particularly fruitful
